    Taste of Maydoon

What a wonderful experience! We were greeted right away when we walked in & were sat right away. They had high chairs for kiddos & so my son was able to join us at the table in his own chair. I ordered their mule which was not only delicious but a great price too at $10.00! For my main I ordered the Taste of Maydoon which included a taste of everything! There was not a single thing on the entire plate that was not delicious. The meat was perfectly tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The salad dressing was vinegary and refreshing! This plate is a little on the higher side at $28.00 but for the portion I think it's well worth it! A suggestion to the restaurant would be to add a changing table in the bathroom. I had to change my son on the sink countertop which was less than ideal but we got it done. Would be a nice addition to the restaurant. Will definitely be coming back in!

I ADORE Maydoon! They really have something for everyone. They can get crowded inside, so the best thing to do is reserve a table if you are showing up for dinner. I've never had a bad meal here, though my favorite might be the Taste of Maydoon, as it provides the widest range of what they can make, or the Dip Trio, which really showcases their specialty dips. Try the whole menu! You'll not regret it.

Server was kind, but service was super slow and lacking. Everything was SO tart and tangy. Besides the rice, thankfully. The rice was nice and fluffy. The lentil and beef stew was the only thing thay was not too tart.

Ordered the Taste of Maydoon with Chicken. Our order was packed up nicely and the portion was perfect! The chicken was soft, I loved the fire grilled veggies (tomato and bell peppers) and the rice was fluffy. The sauces that came with it were all amazing! The hummus was delicious to eat with the pita bread! This is one I'll be craving to go back to!

We enjoy Persian food. We recommend the bowl and the apps. Cocktails could be better. Service is excellent and the ambiance is nice for a quick bite and dine. We will def come back bc it's reasonable price.

I walked past here this week, and then last night was over this way for spin and decided to give it a try. I was thoroughly impressed. The inside is cute, but we were sweaty post spin class, so we decided to eat outside. It was perfect weather. Our server was attentive and offered great recommendations. I started with the tehran nights cocktail. It was their take on a spicy marg, and i enjoyed it. I wish it was a little sweeter or had more citrus, but overall and good drink and lovely presentation. As a starter, I had the Kashk E Bademjan which was grilled eggplant mashed into a spread, topped with yogurt and mint oil, served with pita. It was flavorful for a dip/ spread. There was a perfect ratio of pita to spread. The pita was warm and a perfect vessel for the spread. For dinner, Melissa and I both had the same thing: The Maydoon Bowl. This came with the choice of either shredded lamb, ground beef kebab, chicken kebab, or Falafel. Served with rice, cucumber, tomato, and onions, topped with pickled onions and our signature dressing. I went with the ground beef kebab, per our server's recommendation, and she did not steer us wrong. The meat was tender and flavorful. It was beautiful presentation, even just for a bowl. I enjoyed their signature dressing as well. Additionally, I loved how many pickled red onions they put on this dish. We closed the meal with persian ice cream which was flavored with saffron, rosewater & pistachio. This was such a refreshing ice cream. Creamy consistency, and I loved the rose flavoring.

One of my favorite restaurants and it is a fan favorite with friends and family! The restaurant is spacious and beautiful, has lots of seating both inside and outside, friendly staff, and a bar. The food is absolutely delicious, so many vegetarian friendly options, the cocktails are refreshing, and you will definitely be satisfied with anything you order! I love getting their dip trio or maydoon bowl. They also have an amazing Persian ice cream for dessert and you have to try it at least once! I would recommend getting a reservation because they get very busy!

Maydoon is easily one of the best dining experiences in Sacramento. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The koobideh kebab was perfectly seasoned and tender, and the saffron rice had amazing flavor. We also tried the tahdig and dips, which were incredible and tasted authentic. The atmosphere is modern, warm, and perfect for a date night or dinner with friends. Service was friendly and attentive even during a busy evening. Portions were generous, and every dish felt thoughtfully prepared.

Work day + can't leave the office = takeout. This is my third time eating Maydoons and it is a solid option for Mediterranean in Sacramento. I had the koobideh taste of maydoon 9/10. The meat was not dry and it included two different sauces to mix with my meal. I had a yogurt sauce and hummus! I'm a fan of dipping so it was perfect. Highly recommend for a good lunch.

My friend group and I enjoyed our monthly get together by dining at the lovely Maydoon. Situated in midtown, Maydoon open floor space with a bar; the ambiance reminds me of a chill vibe in SF or NY. For apps we ordered dolmeh, falafel bites and the dip trio. All were freshly prepared and delicious. I finally tried dolmeh and I am in love! As an entree I ordered the Maydoon Bowl with ground beef kabob. Alyssa, our amazing server, helped me with my dinner selection (great call, Alyssa!). I'm still salivating over the ground beef kabob...OMG so good! The rice was cooked to perfection and served with tomatoes, cucumbers, and the green sauce was amazinggggg. The Mast Have cocktail was a lovely complement to a wonderful dinner. Can't want to return with other friends as well as my family.

One of my favorite local stops in downtown, love supporting local businesses! Each time I come here I know it's worth my drive. Clean, friendly, waiters are attentive and let's not forget the food is great. No complaints about this spot. It's always friendly and welcoming. Def recommend making reservations if you are trying out this place bc of seating.

I hadn't heard of Maydoon before seeing this restaurant on the Dine Downtown Sac 2026 list; I originally planned to eat off that menu. However, after looking at both menus, I decided to order off the normal menu. First, I need to mention the service, as the hostess was very off-putting. My husband had called for reservations at 6PM. Upon arrival, I let the hostess know we had reservations and she said, "Oh, you're early." She said it in such an unhappy tone, that I immediately checked the time...it was 5:56PM. After seeing we only arrived four minutes prior to our stated time, I was worried how the service would be here. Fortunately, our waitress was genuinely friendly. However, she did fail to check in on us, refill our waters, and brought the check out before asking if we wanted dessert (which I did). She was helpful when ordering though, so overall it was fine. I ordered the Maydoon Bowl with a side of Green Salad. (The waitress was kind enough to point out the bowl already came with Shirazi Salad so I added the Green Salad rather than the Shirazi.) My meal was delicious - very flavorful and filling! I had the Combo (a scoop of Persian ice cream and a baklava) for dessert. I personally didn't care much for the baklava, but enjoyed the ice cream. I'm glad I now know about Maydoon and would return in the future.

Beef Koobideh (4 stars - juicy but a bit over seasoned)

Kolbeh Kabob serves Persian and Mediterranean cuisine…read more Language barrier issues with our server affected my ability to order what I wanted, led to an upsell, and prevented me from separating or splitting the bill. Server did offer to let us choose 2 different meats for our two #41 Koobideh plates (2 beef skewers for $25), but I think we would have been better off just ordering one #61 All Koobideh plate (3 different meat skewers for $34). One plate has plenty of basmati rice for two people to share. She suggested the two #41 orders, instead of answering how much an extra order of rice would cost. Maybe you can't order a side of rice? Rice comes with each entree. By ordering the 2nd plate, she offered or included the $8 Bread Basket for no extra charge. It was my friend's birthday. I wanted to pay, and she wanted to order extra to go, so I wanted two separate bills, but it seemed too complicated to explain or disallowed. After the food was delivered to the table, server didn't check on us anymore. I guess the restaurant doesn't do anything special for birthdays. My friend thought all the koobideh tasted the same. I liked them in this order: 1) Lamb, 2) Chicken, and 3) Beef, but they're the same texture, so they aren't all that different. I should have ordered a different 2nd entree, instead of two Koobideh plates. The #18 Bademjan Borani eggplant appetizer was yummy. It did come with some bread, so you don't have to order the bread basket. The bread is served warm. The basmati rice was light and fluffy, but not flavorful or buttery. You can pay a $4 upgrade to switch the rice to salad or a fancier stir fried rice. Read the Vegetarian Dishes menu section to learn about the various fried rice or polo preparations. Our server suggested the Fava Bean Rice or Baghali Polo because it is a Persian New Year dish. Yelp reviewers recommended the Zereshk Polo, which includes barberries, a fruit similar to currants. $10 to add a skewer of veggies. $4 to add a salad is mentioned under the Vegetarian Dishes menu and Seafood & Combination Plates menu. I didn't like how the sugar cubes for the Persian Tea were served. It looked communal and exposed to the elements. You could see sugar dust on the serving bowl. Other Persian restaurants serve the sugar in a smaller covered bowl. Formal dining room. Lunch specials are Monday to Friday, 11 am to 3 pm, excluding holidays. Lunch prices range from $16-$20. 3 different $8 soup offerings: chicken barley, ashe reshteh, or green lentil.

I also ordered à la carte of the Shish, lamb shank, chicken souvlaki, and Koobideh (ground beef). The different kabobs were seasoned well. The Shish is cubed beef kabob. They will cook it to your preference. I chose medium rare and it was cooked to my liking. The meal came with rice, pita bread (sorry if it's called something else) and hummus. I should have asked if the meats came with some type of sauce. Over, my kids and I enjoyed the flavor of the meats. The shank was very tender and fall off the bone as described by the menu. For my main course I chose to have the beef Koobideh with rice, salad and a roasted tomato. I could eat those roasted tomatoes all day long. My friend shared a secret with me- cut roasted tomato, mix it in with the basmati rice and top with sumac. What an amazing combination? Throughout our meal, staff would pass by and see how we were doing. Not intrusive, it didn't feel like a server asking you if you need anything. All in all my meals here have been great. There used to be a young employee who was always polite, welcoming, and consistent with pricing. I ordered a mango cake for a party that cost $57, and I felt it was well worth the price because it was delicious. However, when I ordered the exact same cake just two weeks later, the employee checked with the owner and suddenly the price increased to $75. The inconsistency didn't sit well with me, especially over such a short period of time. After that employee left, I interacted with the owner more often and unfortunately my experiences became increasingly negative. On one visit, my friends and I had purchased food and were enjoying our meal when a wedding party arrived. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the owner sent the cashier to our table and essentially asked us to leave so there would be room for the larger party. We had already paid for our meals (as customers) and were just sitting and enjoying our food, and the experience felt very disrespectful. On another visit, we stopped by with friends for pastries. While overseeing a remodeling project, the owner approached us and asked, "Are you going to be ordering food?" The tone made us feel like we were inconveniencing her simply by being there. The owner has seen us many times but behaves like she doesn't know us. This was especially disappointing considering how much money I had spent there over the years and how many friends and family members I had brought to support the business. The pastries and cakes are still very good, but customer service matters.
