I was looking for something light but with flavor and this place sounded perfect. My Philly Gyro was so so good! Their pita bread is so soft and warm, gyro meat was tender and flavor packed, not too many veggies that it over powers the meat(although I wouldn't have minded them to be more sautéed), and then the taziki sauce...the perfect addition. I don't know why, but I just don't find myself along this stretch of Northwest Expressway often, especially around meal time. That's a shame because Gyro City Cafe has some of the best gyros in OKC. The posters on the wall are probably as old as my now adult children. There's something faded about this place that just tells you the food is good. Well, that and the crowd of people. It's a husband and wife who run the place - he on the spit and she at the register. Despite the crowd, my to-go order was ready in no time. It's not far to home, and I'm glad I was alone when I unwrapped my gyro and exclaimed, "Oh my god!" This was the largest gyro I've ever seen. I had to eat half of it with a fork just to be able to kind of fold it. The meat has a good flavor with a few crunchy edges. I'll be honest, I like beating the rush so you get more of the crispy edges that have been cooking for a while. Once again, it's a testament to them and their food to have a Monday night crowd. This place has been around for ages. It looks like they spruced it up so unchecked it out. I got the gyro and fries and it was crazy expensive. It's wasn't bad in terms of the food but it wasn't anything great. I can go to the zam zam and get the same thing for much less and it's pretty good. The staff were friendly and I appreciate them! One of my favorite things to do after eating at restaurants is giving an honest review. The minute I stepped foot into this cafe, I should have turned right around and walked out. I should have known better, but at the same time I did not want to judge a book by its cover. Here is my breakdown review. First, when I walked in, the atmosphere was outdated and simply filthy. It's like putting makeup on a pig. Second, the gentleman behind the counter. This guy was chewing with his mouth open while I am ordering off the menu. By the way, the menu was less to be desired. I should have turned around and left...oh well, moving on. When I placed my order for a chicken gyro he tried to talk me out of it; why would you do that! The chicken in this gyro is frozen chicken strips cooked over a flat grill. The baklava was disgusting; it must have been frozen and then pulled out to thaw to serve. The baklava flakes were soft. Third and final comment/s. The guy behind the counter made up the final price at the end, and when I asked how he got that total, he looked at me as if I insulted his whole family tree. The price was reduced. If you are desperate for substance, do yourself a favor and simply do better than me today and go somewhere different. I go out to eat to provide honest feedback for the general public. Just go on Google maps and look for other Greek restaurants. read more

Then he checked his phone, and that's when he saw it. Also, my order total online and what the owner had ranged up slightly differed. Anyway, like what other reviews had brought up, they give you a lot of meat. So I had some leftovers. The meat is well-seasoned and not salty. In addition, they fried the fries while I came and picked up my order, so it was hot and fresh. The fries are seasoned, and it's better than other gyros places. We ate here YEARS ago - before Yelp was a thing in our family. Here's what they are still good at: Generous and tasty portions of gyro meat on pita. Affordable prices. Kind and quick customer service. And a small menu that makes ordering easy. Here's what they need to work on: Covid best practices. The elderly gentleman that was cooking wore a mask but the guy who took our orders did not- which is weird because there's a "Mask Required" sign on their front door. The napkins, silverware etc are all up for grabs so multiple hands can be in it. My initial thought was to give this place a 3 but if it was pre-covid, it would definitely be a 4. I do have a heart, especially during this time with struggling businesses, hence the 4. If you've never been, just know this is a no-frills hole in the wall. I'm good with places like these as long as I get the feeling they're somewhat clean. What's helpful is that it's an open kitchen so you can watch them cook but I would suggest the owners start taking care of the building.
