Decided to stop by for a quick lunch. We were in town to visit the Capitol and this place is nearby. We got a lab gyro wrap combo which comes with a drink and fries - flavor was on point. Service was also very friendly. There's about 3-4 tables to eat in, but it seems like a lot of people just get their food to go. Overall we left very satisfied. If you're looking for a quick bite in the area, definitely check them out.

A nice hole in the wall joint, in the heart of Trenton with pocket friendly bites. I got falafel as well as the spicy lamb gyro on my way back from a concert. The lamb meat was succulent but there was too much of lettuce and tomatoes packed into it. The portion size for the price was great! The only caveat here is parking, had to park in front with hazard lights on and had to whisk in and out of the store, and the neighborhood looked a bit sketchy overall. Very fast service and a very friendly staff at the desk, wish it was at a better location with parking

5/5 - I would come back here again Was in the area because of an IRS appointment. Wanted a place to relax a little bit and grab a bite to eat before driving over an hour back home. Spicy Mixed Gyro: The gyro was bomb. Amazing flavors and texture. Nothing was dry or overcooked, everything was amazing and to perfection. The side of extra white sauce went a long way. I think the only difference between the regular mixed gyro and this spicy one was the chili powder on top and also a few slices of jalapeno. For $8 this is a steal! It tasted amazing. 12 Piece Onion Rings: Something tells me that these aren't made in house lol The onion rings seemed too perfect with the breading and shape. Regardless, it was still good and they did a good job on getting the fry on it just right -- really crispy but not burnt. Paired with the extra white sauce on the side and these onion rings slapped and were a really nice side to the gyro if you got the appetite. The service here is phenomenal. Even before we came here to order food, we popped in and asked if there was a restroom. Not only did the man in the front tell us that there isn't one, he also helped guide us towards where in the area we might be able to find one, which I thought was very helpful and I really appreciated that. While dining in, the staff took care of us well and offered us extra white sauces, napkins, etc. It was especially hot that day and the man working the kitchen came out and offered us 2 cold water bottles on the house! Shout-out's to the kind staff working there, I really appreciated the service and help, and I'd love to be able to come back again in the future if I'm ever in the area again. If you're looking for a bomb halal meal that won't break the bank and friendly service, this is your place. Come here, try the food, I promise you won't regret it.

Great food, excellent customer service. They are so friendly here. I go here once a week and order the chicken platter. If you are like me and love this type of food, but can't tolerate spice, just ask for it not spicy. I'd also recommend extra white sauce because it's delicious! Also the name "Express" speaks for itself - they get your food to you in minutes! Very quick. This is more of a grab and go kind of place, as most places in a city would be, rather than a sit down- although they do have a few tables to sit if you need to. If you're in the area and looking for true authentic Greek food, come here!

Very friendly service! This was only perhaps my second time eating Middle Eastern type food and wasn't sure what to expect. The hummus was good and had the tiniest amount of heat that was pleasing and not overpowering for someone like me that doesn't like a lot of it. The lentil soup was thick, tasty, and filling. The chicken platter was very good. Just the right amount of white sauce. Nothing seemed too rich and the amount of chicken and rice was very good; I never felt like it needed more or less of anything. The baklava was good and not sickeningly sweet or anything. Would definitely visit again. Absolutely zero complaints about anything. Everything was fantastic.

I googled good restaurants near me. We normally don't go downtown due to lack of parking but this place was awesome and the owners are great. Very friendly and the food was amazing. Best Gryo I think I have ever had. Bring cash as they don't process cards. Don't worry there is a bank just across the street. read more

Delicious, perfectly seasoned middle eastern food in downtown Trenton! The lamb & chicken mixed platter is almost enough for two, with salad & pita. I eat here a lot and work for the state down the street. Everything is awesome. The platters are gigantic and delicious. I also get a garden salad most of the time that's $3, which is a great deal. Everyone that works here is super nice and I kid you not, whenever I order a gyro or platter they average less than a minute to make it. If you enjoy falafel stands, this is like a more refined version and twice the amount of food. The shop is really nice inside and clean. Truly 5/5, especially for Trenton. read more

My sister works in Trenton, so we often ask her to bring back mixed platters, falafel, and more for us! I've never had something I didn't like at Gyro Express. This is one of my favorite food genres and this place only helps solidify my reasoning. I have been here only a few times so far, but plan on attending many more. The store is centrally located in the downtown area of Trenton, close enough for the employees of many State offices to walk in a matter of minutes. Inside you will find a well kept store, nicely renovated with new, very clean looking kitchen equipment. There are two TV screens above the counter displaying the menu. Their menu options are not vast but all are well executed and are carefully prepared with tons of excellent flavor. My favorite so far have been the Chicken or Gyro Platters. These platters come, served over a bed of rice, pita bread and some salad on the side with what I can only delineate to be a yogurt based sauce or dressing. Whatever it is, I am going to ask for extra next time, as it is very refreshing. Their proteins are cooked to order and they don't leave you waiting around forever to get your food. While you do wait, however, the staff is extremely friendly, pleasant and honest. On my last trip, the owner had one of his repeat customers come in and he said to her "I owe you $1 from last time." The woman didn't remember, and yes it's only $1 but the point is that he could have just said nothing. This is a small thing that helps to build trust w/a store owner and want to re-visit their establishment in the future. Make sure you bring cash with you, as they don't currently accept credit cards. read more

You get such a great service when you come there. It is a family business and you really can feel the love they have for each other, the food, and the business. Not to mention their is always people waiting to eat there food. When you come in you will not regret it. The food is really good. Well seasoned. They have a great selection to choose from. After walking by this place enough times, I had to try it. You can tell that the owner has a lot of pride in his establishment. The place is very clean, and the gentleman at the counter was very friendly and polite. Most importantly, my falafel platter over rice was amazing!!! The give you a white sauce and a green sauce that was very good! The food was spicy but not crazy. Definitely looking forward to going again. read more

This is by far the best middle-eastern restaurant I've ever visited. Not only was the food delicious and appropriately portioned, the service was absolutely amazing. When we wanted to get more bread (because it was so delicious), the owner was super friendly and even gave us the freshly cooked bread for free. The soda was also given to us on the house. Will definitely pay another visit when I'm around. read more

You can't go wrong with any of the menu items. The chicken is always tender and full of flavor. The rice is fluffy and spicy and the white sauce is terrific! I love the bread too. It's so soft and tasty. The food is great and reasonably priced and the customer service is excellent. You can tell the owner appreciates his customers. I just wished they stayed open later or on weekends. Definitely give them a try. You won't be disappointed! read more

I've been here a couple of times and it's one of my favorite places downtown. They're always nice and provide great service! The place is very clean, there's a small counter to eat there or you can get it to go. The food is amazing and everything is fresh!! I usually go for the lamb and rice or a gyro. My co-workers and I visit Gyro Express for lunch at least once a week. There is a reason we keep coming back! The food is authentic Middle Eastern, and it's as good as good gets. I normally get a falafel gyro and it is absolutely incredible. In addition to the delicious food, the customer service is top-notch. The owners are so friendly, and always hold a nice conversation with me as I wait for my food. The food has gotten somewhat less delicious, but the food was always very good. The decorum has not updated nor changed in years and the hard wood booths and chairs are just super uncomfortable. There is no accessibility and they act sorta resentful toward those who are somewhat handicapped.

Everything had changed, decor was simple and rustic now. Anyway, we ordered lunch. Conversation between us was strained because the music was a bit loud (albeit, it was a decent genre, 70's & 80's Rock). It took a while for the meals to arrive to our table, even though only one other table was occupied at that time in the restaurant. Our waiter was a bit inattentive also (or maybe inexperienced ?). I had to get up to ask him for some plates for our mozzarella stick appetizer, some ice in my wife's Iced Tea, a bottle of ketchup for my Mother In Law's French fries, and the coleslaw that was suppose to come with my Mother In Law's meal. Food was alright though, not great, but not horrible either. I don't agree with the 4 & 5 Star reviews for this place though, maybe breakfast is better, but that certainly wasn't what I experienced yesterday during our lunch. I imagine I still might be back someday, because it's close to where my Mother In Law lives and there really isn't a lot of choices nearby. A weak 3 Star Rating for now, I'll write an updated review when we return for breakfast sometime.

From the outside, it doesn't look like much; in fact, it looks like a bit of a dive from outside. But when you walk in, you are transported. The design of the restaurant is so special - community tables, pillows, tapestries, waterfall features, tiles, and belly dancing. The food was a little inconsistent. We shared many dishes: Bastilla (baked layers of filo dough, eggs, chicken, almonds, sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar); hummus (chickpeas, tahini, crushed garlic, lemon juice, sprinkled with paprika and olive oil, served with pita bread); Spanakopita; salad trio (eggplant salad, cucumber and tomato salad, and carrot salad); lamb tagine (stew of lamb, onions, and roasted peppers topped with honey and served with rice); Moroccan chicken with harissa cumin sauce; mujaddara (cracked bulgur wheat cooked with lentils and caramelized onions); and mint tea. I wish they didn't serve bottled waters, and the food was mostly good but not the most consistent. Our mujaddara wasn't served with the yogurt sauce listed on the menu, and the lamb with the tagine was incredibly fatty, making some of it inedible. The mint tea was really really really sweet - like syrup! I also wish the bastilla had a little less powdered sugar (I like on the dish, but it was A LOT of powdered sugar), and it was quite dry. But the eggplant salad, carrot salad, hummus, and mujaddara (even without the yogurt sauce) were great. I would happily have eaten just those dishes. They were busy - it's a popular place - but service was also a challenge. It took us almost a half hour to get the check and pay. I had to ask for the bill twice and then it still took a while to get it, for it to get picked up, and for it to come back to us. It's pretty bad if I'm considering walking up to the bar to get the check and pay. I loved the ambiance and the character. I loved that you can't tell how amazing it's going to be inside when you see the outside of the building - it's a surprise for sure. Our experience was that the food was a bit inconsistent, but it certainly was a fun meal.

I deliver for Door dash, and have picked up from here many times for customers, and was dying to try this little gyro place in downtown Trenton. I finally had the opportunity to place an order for myself, and I do not regret it. The staff behind the counter were most gracious and enthusiastic to serve their neighbors in the community and to share their food. The gentleman gave me samples of the seasoned chicken and rice to try since I did not order a platter. Both were excellent. But what I did take home, the lamb gyro, was out of this world. The meat was Perfectly seasoned and extremely flavorful and added a great texture to the sandwich. The tzitziki was refreshing and added a sour note to the whole thing. And the fresh veggies balanced the meat and sauce with a great crunch and the temperature difference between the hot meat and cold veggies is really interesting! read more
