We were visiting Seattle in December and staying in an airbnb nearby. Being Greek, we were excited to have Greek/Gyro in the neighborhood and the Yelp reviews seemed pretty good. We stopped by on a weekend evening and basically walked in and walked out. First bad sign: no customers, although the Mexican place upstairs was packed. Second bad sign: We had to yell out "hello" for someone to come out of the back. Two men (ethnic, but not Greek) came out and powered up the ipad/register, as if we were the first customers of the day. Third bad sign: The place smelled dirty, like old mop water (not food) and the whole place was very dingy. Still embarrassed to walk out, we asked what dishes were popular but the men either did not understand the question or did not know how to answer the question. At this point I said to my partner in Greek, with no fear of being understood, "You can order if you want, but I am not eating anything from this place." My partner agreed and we politely walked out. I ordered a Jumbo Gyro hold the Tzatziki and Feta. The menu said that the Jumbo Gyro had Hummus on it, so when I asked for Hummus the person who took my order told me that it was Tzatziki or Hummus and I had to ask for the Hummus.... So he took my Gyro back into the Kitchen and it took him about 5 minutes to bring it back to me with Hummus glopped on the top of it. The meat was the dried out end pieces that were hard and hurt my teeth. I would give this place a 0 if I could.... Hands down the best Gyro in town along with all of the other items we've tried. The falafel salad is SUPER fresh unlike most pathetic salads I've seen at competitors. The owner is very generous with sides and sauces without even having to ask. Greek fries are a reasonable portion with ample feta. Most importantly, the owners (husband and wife) are extremely hard working and respectable small business owners. You'll walk in, order and pay at the counter, and find a table. You'll grab your own napkins and silverware around the corner. They play the smooth Jazz station...reminds me of the dentist. The food portion is huge; you might want a to-go box. The tables are clean and the guy at the counter is friendly. The atmosphere is clean and uncluttered. It's definitely better than Main St. Gyros. Several minute later, somebody showed up but couldn't take my order until several minutes after that when she finally found a pen. Everything about the place looks grungy, grimy, decrepit, beat looking. The walls are cracking, the speaker cones on their boombox sound system are crumbling. The sign outside is falling down. The floor and tables look worn out. The general look of the place almost says that somebody started off with great intentions, and then sort of gave up. With all this in mind, I was pleasantry surprised when my food finally showed up. I had the veggie moussaka. The moussaka was stellar, but the rice was alternatingly fluffy and clumpy, like it had been scraped from the bottom of the pot. The salad looked and tasted great. This place is confusing. At first very nice but the order took forever. Then when I got home I realized they left out a gyros, which was annoying.They apologized but stumbled over the refund and told me I had to wait until the next day. Then, the next day instead of refunding me they charged me again! I had to go back and get my money at which point the father was scowling at me and they told me I was being rude. They started to video tape me waiting for my money back, which they were withholding telling me I was being rude. What? So I started my phone video. Finally they gave me my money back from the charge and the "alleged" sandwich they left out. That's a lot of work for a Gyros. In the end, we all make mistakes and have bad days, but frankly the food was terrible. Empty flavor along with being so incrediby rude I would definitely go somewhere else. It's embarrassing how many terrible gyros there are in Seattle. I had a great one when I first moved here two years ago but I have no idea where it was. Then I had enough terrible ones with chewy, tough, poorly seasoned meat that I assumed that one good one had been a product of my euphoria at just having moved here. I supposed I just didn't like gyros. Then a month back a friend came to visit from out of state and after going and going and going all day, we decided to order something to my apartment. She wanted Greek; I was too tired to care. I was very pleasantly surprised. She got the gyro plate and said it was very good. I got the gyro sandwich with Greek fries. Everything was delivered still hot, nothing was soggy. "Omg," I told my friend, "This meat is so tender." She looked at my oddly. "Yeah, that's how it's supposed to be." Very good for lunch. Lamb Souvlaki was tender, juicy and flavorful. Rice was well spiced with hints of shawarma seasonings, side salad was tangy, and the tzatziki was zesty with garlic. The food was okay, but the service was terrible. We had a party of 5 and we all ordered our food. It took about 25 min for us to get out order and it was completely incorrect. Only one of us actually got what we ordered. They also did not honor our 10% off yelp check in coupon for some reason. There was one chef, and 4 ladies. I don't know any names but lady 1 was a sweetheart and she was the server handling the food around who helped rectify our order. She struggled to catch our repeated order after we told her it was incorrect. She had to come back to the table ABOUT 6 TIMES before we all got what we ordered. Ladies 2, 3, and 4 seemed to all be related to each other and had some friends visit them at the restaurant whike we were there which obviously was more important to them than to take care of current customers. Incredible food. Came in with a large group of people. Everyone was obsessing over the garlic sauce & fries! Crispy and warm. Their speciality is the chicken shawarma (either wrap or plate). Taste is completely different from other places. Their rice is delicious. Some places have bland rice w/ everything on top, however they had flavor in every bite. If you work near the market you have a few options for Mediterranean style food, I usually go to Mr. D's Greek Delicacies or Falafel King to satisfy my cravings. When you work down in the ID this place, The Gyro House, is the place to go and they have Halal meats and lots of vegetarian items. I walked in wanting a chicken gyro but the day I went they weren't available so I decided on the falafel plate. It came with five balls, yes five balls people that's a lot of balls if you ask me. OK five balls, hummus, pita, rice and a small Greek like salad. It was all fresh and tasty and the rice had this unique flavor to it like they used cinnamon, cumin and maybe coriander in it, OK I could totally be wrong because I'm no spice/taste expert but those are the flavor it tasted like to me. The falafel plate was so huge I had three balls and lots of rice to take back to work with me and have for lunch the next day and they weren't too bad, balls have never microwaved well for me I don't think they were meant too. Let me make one thing clear...I really do love this place but need to comment on my last visit in the hopes that the situation won't happen again. Went in for lunch with one of my work mates. Stood in line waiting to order. Noted that cashier was having issues with register. Cashier asked us what we wanted and we gave her our order. She did not take money. She turned in our order and we waited (and waited for her to ask to take our money). We then got back in line and when we got to her we asked for her to take our money. She then ran back and checked on order. ...and we waited and waited. She walked by us with our order and took it to another table. Anyhoo we order Shwarma and Jumbo Gyro We weren't asked about the sauce that should be on Shwarma. Both items in spite of it all were delicious...but waiting almost 25 minutes for our food (and being given the food in to go packaging when we asked for a sit down order) was very frustrating...and this is a place that I truly do love. They must be under new ownership now, because the falafel sandwich were not the same as the past...falafel was not as good and they didn't put the same toppings/spreads it. It was probably the worst I've ever had. Even worse than the food was the facility. No soap, no paper towels, no napkins, soda fountain broken. I requested these multiple times before I was told they were out. I'm 99.9% certain they didn't have any in the cooking area either. Yuck. read more

This place has one of the best chicken plates I've had anywhere in Seattle. They've got two different chicken plates with different cuts of chicken. My wife got one and I got the other, both were amazing. And their garlic sauce is to die for. The portion sizes were really big too, I could barely finish my food! The service here is... odd. I've had nice people who ring up orders wrong, people who are pretty "meh" about working and show it, and then there's the guy who made me not want to go back. On my fifth or sixth visit, two of my friends and I were eating our meals and (mid-meal!) an employee came over and asked me to talk to technical support for him. Nicely located near my office right past Yesler, Gyro house provides decent gyro's in a city that really isn't know for decent gyros, or anything Middle Eastern really. I usually get the Beef or Lamb Gyros (Chicken gyros, people, really?) and it hits the spot, the beef is delicately seasoned, kinda spicy a little sweet. The tzatziki sauce is on point not too sour or pungent, and they have the best grilled pitas I've run into in awhile. Food preparation (5 of 5) - Of all Gyros I've tried in the Seattle/Bell area, they have the most 'accessories' that comes with the plate. Flavored rice, the feta sauce (I don't know what it's called), Hummus with an olive and olive oil dressing, vegetables, well cooked lamb/beef, the pita bread, are all awesomely arranged in a sizable plate. 4. Ordered the falafel sandwich with tzatziki sauce via DoorDash. It was delicious!! My sandwich was wrapped up nice and tightly so it was still warm when it arrived. The veggies were crisp and fresh, the pita was soft and warm, and the falafel itself was perfectly seasoned, crispy, and YUMMY. Had a falafel sandwich here, and they made it extra crunchy by putting fries in it! The only drawback here is that you have to bus your own table, but for about $10 for two sandwiches, it's not that surprising. Came here for a falafel gyro and shelled out the extra few bucks for a combo w/ drink and fries to go. The gyro oddly had some undercooked fries in with the falafel, I thought it might have been a mistake before seeing other reviews mention the same. The gyro was low on total falafel content as well, I would have happily substituted more falafel for the undercooked fries. The fries are typical frozen fries, and lack the added feta you'll find a Main St Gyros. I far prefer the falafel sandwich at near by Main St Gyros. Though Gyro House does have a better sit down environment if that is what you're looking for. read more

I work near by, so end up going here when I am tired of the Asian places in ID. I stick to the chicken gyros, and they are certainly good. I've had better hummus than what they serve there and the pita bread is a little cold. The place is run of the mill, simple place with ample seating and friendly staff. It is a little pricey, but it's a welcome change and stands out from all that ID has to offer. The location is weird and I assume they close at 6 once the offices nearby close, I can't imagine me going there late just because it is so isolated and in an empty part of town. read more
