I was walking down the Ave looking for a quick and cheap lunch and decided to pop into Shawarma King, and I am so glad I did! I walked in and he took my order right away. Very very casual dining spot. The type of place you can pull up in sweatpants and no one would bat an eye. The food here is delicious, for my quick bite I went with the chicken shawarma sandwich, and it was chock full of protein, veggies, and amazing sauces. I really appreciate when they give you more meat in a sandwich like this, I like mine with a lot of meat and a little veg, and this was exactly that. The chicken was super tender and well seasoned. I went here to get some takeout to take advantage of the buy one get one free UberEats deal, though I am writing this review based on the original price. I got the lamb gyro sandwich and beef gyro sandwich. Food came out relatively fast for pickup, about 5 minutes, which is nice if you are on a time crunch. The gyro sandwiches were good with decent amount of meat and vegetables. The pita bread was fairly thick and can support the ingredients, and they wrap the sandwich nicely. For what they charge, it can be a bit pricey since the sandwich is fairly small (I'd assume the shawarma sandwich for 50 cents more is much larger and more substantial based on pictures). One did not fill me up, but two did, but that would be a $25-30+ meal and for a fast casual, I'd be better off going to a more formal place. But if you're on a time crunch, and/or want some late night, this is a good place to go. read more

You can sit inside and the kitchen is open so you can see what's going on. I ordered a shawarma chicken salad and my friend got a plate. The salad was a good size and the dressing was really good but the chicken was so dry and didn't have much flavor. My friend said his food was ok but he didn't eat the hummus. I was quoted 20-25 minutes for it to be cooked to order and ready so I grabbed a few things at Target a block away in the meantime. When I came back there was a little miscommunication about my order but other than that smooth sailing. I really enjoyed the meal, at a reasonable price too. Nicely seasoned chunks of chicken, rice, fresh salad, soft pita, and creamy hummus for dipping. These guys really seem to know what they're doing and served up quality food. No problem waiting 20+ minutes for a satisfying plate. You could probably stretch it into two meals and eat some leftovers for lunch, but if you're really hungry it's likely going down in one sitting. Being on University Ave, there's not really any parking around, so you're best off walking in on foot, or asking a delivery service to handle the hassle for you. Nice homey interior good for solo, group, or families to dine on on authentic Egyptian and Greek food. They serve shawarmas and gyros too! Our order took about 10 minute to finish and we set off. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner for a change, since we were getting tired of our usual Thai food takeout. I used to go to Shawarma King frequently during my first couple years of undergrad for their garlicky homemade hummus and pita. This was my first time back in about three years and my first time getting takeout from here during the pandemic. I was in a veggie mood and so I ordered a chicken gyro salad and my boyfriend ordered a chicken shawarma to go. Our total came out to a little over $20. I pre-ordered online and it took about 30-35 minutes for my order to be ready; service wasn't super fast but it was acceptable. My chicken gyro salad was very generous and came with plenty of cucumbers, lettuce, and chicken pieces. The lettuce and tomatoes were fresh and not soggy. The chicken was also tender and not overly dry. I probably should've asked for the Greek sauce on the side, but I just moved it off to the side so that my salad wasn't completely drenched in it. My only real complaint was that the chicken was lukewarm, but styrofoam to-go containers never retain the heat. My boyfriend liked his chicken shawarma but for $8 - $9, the quantity wasn't really there and I could tell he was still hungry after.
