Ordered delivery while we were visiting the area. The food was excellent! My 9 yo ordered chicken tenders which were excellent. My oldest and I ordered the beef gyros which were phenomenal! It's been a while since I've eaten an excellent gyro. My friend ordered the cheese steak and had asked that it was the steak and cheese only. It came with everything. I called the restaurant back and let them know and they were back within 10 min with the new sandwich, which was also fantastic. I visit the area often, and we will definitely be returning. Food is decent but quantity is far less under the new management. We ordered a gyro lunch special and gyro platter. Lunch special came first and I had waited for the platter over 20 mins, by the time one of us was done with their lunch. These lamb gyros are some kinda stuffed with a whole lotta goodness! There was a little confusion with my credit card (not their fault) but once we got it cleared up they were pretty quick on the delivery. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for something a little less ordinary. read more

The lunch special of mixed lamb/chicken gyro with French fries is so good! I also enjoy the chicken gyro platter with rice and hummus. Although it is a little pricey, the portion is huge and is more than enough for leftovers. I highly recommend. read more

I've been here probably 4 times, and have never had an issue or bad meal, quite the opposite, I come here from CT for work so when I ordered a gyro I decided to get 2, well to my surprise I could hardly finish one because they are HUGE!!. So on this trip I opted for delivery, now around my hotel there are probably 8-10 places to eat but I was in the mood for Schwarma so I placed my order and waited, it finally came, and as I tore open the bag I realized they sent the chicken and not the lamb. So I called and they immediately rectified the issue and told me to keep the chicken and and the lamb was on the way! (In full disclosure when I first placed the order I said chicken, but prior to finalizing it I asked and changed it to lamb, they had some computer issues so no biggy ) in closing, GREAT food, GREAT service and try the pistachio backlava it's the best I have ever had!! The lamb arrived about 35 minutes later, not to impressed, the chicken one was actually better, I'll chalk it up to rushing to make it right and will try it again next time I'm here. So quantity and quality for price are right in line, as well as correcting issues with to go orders. Still worth a solid five star rating!! So in closing Gyro King is the King!! read more

Damn, that lamb gyro was outstanding! I'm a huge fan of pistachio baklava, it was a little too sweet but oh so good. Service was a little slow but hey, sometimes greatness takes time to create. Excellent food. Everything I get there has been delicious and well cooked. They know what they're doing here at Gyro King.

The veggie sampler appetizer that was supposed to come with Hummus and Babaganouge came with hummus and hummus and some other unknown liquid in a tiny plastic container. There was no pita bred to dip in the sauces that all tasted like nothing and all taste the same. I ordered a Lamb Shawarma (homemade gyro) . which consisted of a pita and some dry tasteless meat of unknown origin. No veggies no sauce...well to be fair the was another tiny plastic container of a gray sauce that looked a little different than the others but tasted the same, so no Tzatziki which is the best part...None! I can't even eat what was brought. What a waste of money! read more

The first time I came here was when they first opened and I thought it was just okay. Better than Season's who uses frozen strips and brown lettuce and better than kabob house who almost overdosed me on white pepper but I always compare to my favorite gyro cart in NYC which has a line around the block. I returned a year later and was pleasantly surprised. Any place with spinning meat is a plus! Spinning meat actually excites me as most of my friends are aware. I just ate another gyro which was fantastic! Still not my NYC gyro but close! My pug gives the fries 4 stars. My husband and I frequently get take out from this hidden gem in Newark. You wouldn't know it from the name or location of the restaurant, but the food is extremely high quality and it is homemade Mediteranean food, certainly among the best you will find in Delaware. I like the gyros, but in my opinion their specialties are their chicken and beef tagines (both are cooked so well that the meat falls off the bone, and the vegetables and spices are perfect), couscous (I think on Fridays only- lamb or chicken), harira (a great vegetarian soup with chickpeas), and their "salads" (which are more like dips with great bread): taktouka and eggplant. I highly recommend this place. Their food is a staple in our household and I hope they'll be around for a long time. read more

I have been here a few times and tried something different each time. The lamb schwarma is delicious with perfect seasonings, the gyros are constructed very well on what tastes like homemade pita bread... The falafel sandwich I had last night was amazing, the falafel isn't too salty or overly seasoned, and it isn't dry. If you want to try authentic Greek food, take it from my family of Lebanese descent - this is a great place for a great price. What do they do? I ordered then waited... and waited... I was the only customer! they didn't treat me like a King...

My girlfriend and I stopped by this place for dinner since we live in the development nearby. We both ordered the Gyro Platter, which was listed as coming with a salad, choice of meat, rice, seasoned vegetables, and pita. The salad came and was fine. Then the lamb came on top of white rice. That's it folks. We waited a while until it was apparent that they had forgotten about the other items. I went up and asked about the vegetables and pita. The couple running the place told me it didn't come with those things. I then showed them their menu where it stated what the meal ($12.00) came with. They looked at it and then told me they were using the previous owner's menu and hadn't updated it. No apology. No substitution. No partial refund. Deal with it. If they would have told me I'd be getting lamb on white rice, I wouldn't have ordered it. Absolutely the worst service I've encountered in Delaware in the two years I've been here. I live a five minute walk away and I'll never come back. read more
