There are a lot of vegetarian options at Gyro Star. I go to the one on Callow which took over the location of my favorite Mexican restaurant for 20 years, so it was sad at first. But for a reasonable price I can get darned good falafel sandwiches, veggie samosas, spanokapitas, baba ganoush, lentil soup or broccoli-cheese soup, and other great choices. There are a few items that failed for me. The stuffed cabbage leaves were, and the stuffed grape leaves, were for me inferior, so I no longer order those. The desserts are numerous and the variety of baklava especially winning. read more

I will start that if you're looking for great decor and fine dining, this isn't it. If you're looking for excellent food with a unique twist, then look no further. I had the gyro. The first thing I noticed was the unique taste. The flavoring was not typical. I found out later it is an in- house special recipe. My husband, so didn't know what the meat was, tried it and his first comment was the unique flavor. It was delicious and unexpected. The gyro meat they serve there is 100% meat. There are no soy fillers. That was also surprising. The owner (?), or someone who took great pride in the shop, have me a sample of the babaganouche. The thing that struck me was it was not pure paste. It had pieces of eggplant which changed its consistency. Not a lot, but enough to be noticeable. The tzatziki was homemade. It came with a little flavor bite and a tiny red tomato. If never seen that before. It was topped with smoked sumac. Much more flavorful than any store- bought one. Again, it was the little add- ons that brought the meal up a notch. My best friend had the gyro salad. It was enough for two meals. This little spot is worth checking out. read more

Popped in yesterday because I'd gotten food from here on DoorDash before, and I wanted to give the place business direct rather than ordering through intermediaries. The interior's a bit small but comfortable, with the delicious smells of the kitchen coming through all the time. I really, really liked having that smell of meat, spices, and more just popping in every time I took a breath. Service? Awesome. The man taking my order was very friendly, and got a couple of smiles out of me. Really feels like a friendly place. Great gyros, lovely shwarma, and the baklava is just awesome. I ordered some spanakopita and a gyro with a couple of other items and I have to say this place has some of the best spanakopita I've had in years. Nice and crispy and feta with spinach. Absolutely delicious. The gyro was also very good. That spanakopita is an absolute knockout. The other item I had was the Musakhan roll also was good. Currently they're doing some remodeling and expansion of their restaurant! I won't spoil what's going to be offered next on the menu or what the interior looks like since it's not finished... but I had the opportunity to meet the owner and learn more about this business. Similar to Gyro Bites on 6th Ave in Tacoma, this is somewhat like a sister store, they're still fine tuning their menu since they use recipes just a little different to Gyro Bites. This is a restaurant that I feel welcomed, they want to offer the best experience for their customers. Their gyro hit the spot, this is exactly what I wanted. I asked for extra tztaziki l, and they delivered. The meat is beef/lamb, you can see it slowly spin from the kitchen when you order. The meat was tender, moist, and flavorful. The side salad was wonderful as well, with this one in particular... I prefer to put the salad into my gyro to get everything in one bite (not shown in image). Lastly, the rice on the side was rice pilaf! I wasn't sure what to expect as a side rice, the menu just says "rice on the side and salad". This rice certainly had aroma to it, and texture -everything I expect at a true greek restaurant. I hope great things for this place, if you've never had greek-american food.. I suggest here! With this being a newer location, the more feedback the better. Really disappointed in the Gyro. First time I have had a Spicy Gyro before. It was not listed as a spicy food item. It was not good. The pita also fell apart and I could not eat the sandwich as expected. Service was really slow despite them not being very busy. The machine to order your food defaulted to adding a tip. Had to select other then put in $0.00. Why tip when a machine is doing a persons job? Counter person said nothing other than calling my name. Did not even give me my drink cup. I had to go get it myself. Not a big deal but they should tell you where the cups are. This was my first (and last) time there so I did not know they were around the corner. I will not be returning. All three were delicious, with healthy portions of hummus and/or babaganoush , plus other fixings. I am a mom-and-pop fanatic (I'll go hungry before eating at chains), and this place hits the spot in several ways. Decor is nice but not fancy; this isn't an impress-your-date-with-the-decor kind of place, but it's simple and Mediterranean. The owner is the maitre'd, the waiter, the server, the cashier, and the cook. He really hustles, putting a lot of effort into his business. Even so, wait times are very reasonable, even when crowded. Staff are very kind at the end of the meal my friend and I were given a free piece of baklava which was very good and some car air fresheners to help support the business. The place is absolutely clean - when I came in the young man was cleaning the legs of the chairs and tables. The food is absolutely amazing. Got th meat platter, the Greek salad and th fried cauliflower. The cauliflower was a little soft, but I did get my meal to go so it sat in the steam on the way home, but was still really good. The lamb and chicken had the perfect seasoning and went with the rice amazingly. The beef was a hamburger patty roll - not what I expected, but the flavor was there. My wife's salad was huge and full of peppers, tomatoes and all the good stuff. The highlight for me was talking to the gentlemen working. Listening.yo them talk about their culture ma.d how proud they are of the food they serve - and they should be. I ordered the buy one get one super gyro on Postmates for my wife and I. It's marked up to 18.99 from it's regular menu price of 11.99, but since you're getting two for the price we didn't mind. As soon as I ordered I saw on the confirmation that clicking the offer only put one in my order. I called the restaurant within seconds and spoke to someone and politely explained what happened. They told me they saw the offer and that it hasn't applied and refused to help. They wouldn't cancel the order, and they wouldn't add the second gyro. They told me to call Postmates. Postmates also couldn't help because while I was on the phone they marked my food as made which locks Postmates out. The actual order pickup didn't happen for 50 minutes after that, and delivery took 30 minutes, so there was plenty of time to make it right and all parties refused. At the end of the day I overpaid for a cold gyro, and don't imagine I'll be in a hurry to try again. read more
