I've been coming here since I was a kid, back in the 80's. I remember liking it then and fast forward 25 years, it's still as good as I remember. I've been staying at an airbnb in my childhood neighborhood of Astoria the last month, and I've eaten here 3 times already. I've ordered both the chicken and beef Souvlaki platter, because Souvlaki was always one of my favorite dishes as a kid and I could never, ever find it in Florida. They are well worth it for about $12, since it includes a nice Greek salad, Tzatziki sauce, fries (or lemon potatoes or rice), pita bread and a Dolmade. Most of the people here are long time locals and seem to know each other. I overheard a few nice conversations. The waitress has been the same one each time I came and she's quiet, but friendly and attentive. I preferred the beef Souvlaki well over the chicken, which lacked some taste. I also loved the lemon potatoes, and will prefer those over the fries (I haven't tried the rice yet). This place only takes cash...so make sure you have enough for the meal and tip. read more

To be polite i will not insult you gyro uno. I stopped by 2 days ago for lunch, i had a gyro sandwich to go!I ate after 10 minutes and it was disgusting. I felt like vomiting all day and my mouth stank all day! You will never see me again! p.s the place was quite dirty too. read more

The food plates are cheap and great. i get Chicken Kabobs. The GREEK SALAD IS GREAT! This place fed me through law school and i still go back for greek salad with feta cheese and chicken kaboobs with a nice bread that i dip in a cucumber sauce. Making me hungry. This is, without question, the best pizza in all of New York. I just, I just love this pizza and there's nothing really more I can say. In terms of not-Chicago pizza, it's the absolute perfect thickness, not paper/worthless thin, not pathetic-Uno's-out-of-chicago thick. Perfect amount of cheese, excellent taste. My house is literally connected to another pizza place (Napoli at 35th and 33rd, it sucks) and when I ordered last night from Gyro, delivery guy asked about them and I said you guys have MUCH better pizza, we both had a good laugh then I stiffed him on the tip (haha jk, gave him his fair share). I ordered takeout from Gyro Uno the other night and was not impressed (and slightly disappointed due to it's high yelp rating). I had a gyro and fries. The gyro meat was cut very thick so it was more like chunks of gyro meat instead of slices. Also, it was not wrapped well. The pita bread was falling apart and it looked like someone tried to toss tzatziki sauce onto the gyro, completely missed and didn't care. By the end of my sandwich, the pita was in pieces, there was tzatziki all over my hands, and one last gyro meat chunk sitting in my palm. I was very sad. As for the fries, they were very soggy and limp. I was so sad this place was not better :(. read more

I only order one thing here so I can only speak for it and it is taste-budding delicious. The Gyro Platter (with Greek Rice instead of Fries) is to die for. The best gyro in Astoria is found at Gyro Uno, located on Steinway on the corner of 28th Avenue, right in the heart of Little Egypt. Living in Astoria, which boosts the largest Greek population outside of Greece, there seems to be a gyro spot on each block, each boosting the rights to the best gyro the universe has ever tasted. Gyro Uno claims no such thing, but is a humble restaurant offering a magnitude of options, such as soulvaki, pizza, pasta, breakfast (all day), salads, sandwiches, spanakopita, and of course, gyros; there is little that you cannot find on their menu. Usually I am cautious of places that specialize in one type of cuisine, yet offer so many varied dishes since the latter usually turns out to be a disappointment. However, I can confidently say the majority of items I have tried, gyros aside, have been really good as well. The gyro at Gyro Uno comes generously filled with perfectly seasoned and tender lamb, red onion, tzatziki sauce, fresh tomatoes, and parsley, sprinkled with paprika and wrapped in a soft, slightly warm pita. The gyro is so big and hearty in and of itself, and for $5, it truly is the best deal town. I wasn't a huge fan of lamb gyros until I tried one at Gyro Uno. It is now the only place I will eat one. Everything on the Gyro Uno menu is inexpensive, especially compared to other places in the neighborhood. Another equally awesome tidbit: all the food at Gyro Uno is homemade, so their soups, meatballs, tzatziki sauce, everything is made in the kitchen. I discovered this when battling a cold, and looking for some good soup. Asking if the soups were homemade, one of my favorite waitresses there confirmed that it was, like everything else on the menu, homemade. And it turned out to be the best chicken noodle soup I have ever eaten at a restaurant. The spanakopita is equally great, and at $3.75 a piece, another great deal. Their Greek Salad is another one of my favorites, filled with delicious olives and a thick piece of the best and freshest feta cheese I've tasted. read more

I would say this is a pretty good place to get a gyro if you are willing to go to Astoria...which you should be considering it is the heart of Greek culture in America/NYC. I was recommended Gyro Uno by a friend and ultimately it was pretty good and perhaps I don't have much experience with gyros but I'd say that for $5 you are getting a pretty good meal. I think if I'm in Astoria ever again this is where I'd probably go for a cheap, quick fix. read more

I work nearby so I ordered take out. Garlic knots and a spinach pie. Service was quick. The food was very greasy but that's expected for a pizzeria. The menu had a lot of other choices since it's a pizza and gyro combination restaurant. I'll probably go back for a slice . They had a few interesting "thick" pizzas sitting out. read more

Great gyro. Probably the best I've tasted. Tzaziki is OK--my mom's is a little better :) Souvlaki is sort of hit or miss When it's good-- its really good-- when its not--- well-- its chewy and inedible. The pita's are perfect-- and no-- not all pitas are created equally. Say no to the fries-- frozen, prepackaged once-taters and oily when cooked. The Spanakopita is good---not as good as my moms but good. Overall-- I'm a fan. And eat here when I want a really tasty gyro. read more

While I certainly do NOT think that they have the best tasting gyro's in Astoria... They definitely have the meatiest ones and I feel that you get the most bang for your buck here. Ordered from seamless for dinner after checking out reviews on yelp. I ordered a regular gyro and a slice of pizza. The food came much quick than I anticipated for a Friday night and the delivery guy was really nice. The gyro was FANTASTIC. It was delicious, enourmous, and very fairly priced. The gyro itself probably could have been almost 2 meals - it was pretty big. This place is my new favorite go to gyro place. The pizza was also really good and cheap as well. Try as I might I can never seem to find a Gyro Platter as generously proportioned and as tasty as Gyro Uno's. I've been ordering from here since I moved to this side of Astoria and I've never once even had a mistake on an order I placed. Their burgers and pizza are also excellent but what I always find myself craving every couple of weeks is their perfect french fries! Also, kudos to them for always being willing to deliver kinda late. Sometimes I'll get off work pretty late and they're the only ones willing to accommodate a delivery. This place is great, and very clean, which is a plus. When you first walk in, you're greeted with the smell of gyro meat, and you know you're in a good place. I ate the gyro plate with lemon potatoes, portions are hefty, I probably could have split the plate with another person. But I'm glad I didn't the leftovers were just as good. Incompetent server and worst service! The waitress doesn't seem to know what the heck the menu consists of? She struggled taking a simple order with two customers in front of me, they had to repeat themselves many times before she got it right! I saw them shaking their heads from her incompetence. Friendly Staff and Great Chicken Gyros. I come here periodically for a gyro or a slice of pizza. The staff are prompt, very friendly, and the price is just right. Situated towards 28th Avenue this place can be a bit of a trek for those using mass transit in the form of subway service but it is well worth the trip in the early afternoon in the week days. a good pizza/gyro joint on steinway in astoria that does not try to be fancy with its small simple layout. i stopped by after dropping off the girls and glad i did . really not sure a greek food and pizza shop in one space is common but the gyros are delicious and the girls really like the pizza . if you prefer burgers, sandwiches , hot heroes , plates , etc you have the option and prices are reasonable. while grabbing a table in the back i notice its starting to get crowded with folks grabbing a bite during dinner time and its mostly greek cusine that customers are ordering . still prefer soda from a fountain machine over a can or bottle which is hitting the spot as i enjoy my flavorfull lamb gyro. never understood why greek restaurants in the area dont serve gyros on the menu so its refreshing when simple joints like gyro uno do and do it right . read more

As a tourist in Astoria we were completely satisfied with the gyro lunch stop! We were reassured upon walking in when there were quite a few old Greek men hanging out with their coffee and newspaper bickering. The service was extremely friendly and accommodating as we navigated the menu, formalities of course. Didn't want to seem over zealous about my long awaited gyro in Astoria. This is for a delivery order only.. so i have no idea what this place looks like or what the decor might be.. sorry, yelp but "is it casual or dressy?" Question will have to remain unanswered though i am guessing its probs casual. Anyway! I have been avoiding meat on the weekdays (its difficult. I am carnivore at heart) and was sick of the greens in my fridge so what did i do? Order delicious fried Greek yummy-ness. The falafel hot plate was perfect for my craving. They give you a hefty portion of crispy but not overly fried balls of ground chickpeas and spices. At this point pretending I was healthy was out the window so for my choice of side (rice, lemon potatoes or fries) I fattily (new word) chose fries. Delicious and so so many. I have given this place a 5 becasue the food quality is really superior to the other mediterranian and Greek place in the area. The gyros are actually thick and tasty. The tables are claustrophobic but their sauce is fantastic. I would overall recommend this place. My favourite would be to enjoy a Hooka in the area followed by a dinning experience here. The bathrooms are kept nasty, and the area of the restaurant is small which is understandable when you consider the prices in steinway are rising and this is an old restaurant. Overall, not a great fan of Greek food in NY as most gyros are paper thin and nasty but this restaurant is fantastic. read more

Gyro Uno always comes to my rescue when I don't feel like cooking after a tiring day at work and want something cheap. I usually call ahead and swing by and pick up my order. Don't forget to bring cash. The gyro here is AWESOME! As well as the chicken souvlaki. Lots of meat, veggies and just enough tzaziki (yum). I like to throw in a spinach pie if I'm feeling extra hungry. There are always people sitting down inside and the staff works really hard sending out orders for diners and delivery. Pizza seems to be a popular delivery option for people. Excellent neighborhood spot on Steinway to grab a slice or a pita as a quick fix for a great value. read more
