Combo C We chose the Yuzu Shrimp appetizer and I couldn't believe the size of the shrimp. The yuzu mayo was flavorful and paired perfectly. Tip: There's plenty of parking if you get here before noon when it opens. My friend, Keri, asked if I wanted to do lunch with her last Thursday at Shinta Japanese BBQ. I had never been here and said yes. She had booked a reservation for Thursday at noon. I was working from home and drove over here in roughly twenty minutes. I didn't get Keri's message that Shinta had called her while both of us were commuting. The eatery had cancelled her reservation due to a "kitchen incident." Vague. I witnessed folks going into the eatery at noon, so it was still open for business. It's why I've taken off a star. I get that incidents happen. It wasn't serious enough to shut down the eatery. Cancelling thirteen minutes before the reservation time wasn't the best, either. Take 2. Keri got us in on Civic Holiday at noon. We hoped that there wouldn't be any issues. The reservation was a go. We were both off for the day, which worked out perfectly. I got there and parked. I saw a huge truck in front of the doors. A male staffer came over to my car. He looked at me and paused. He told me in Cantonese to park a bit further back because the truck would have a hard time leaving. Everyone else had parked closer to the truck already. I nodded and parked a row back. Keri and I watched a huge kitchen appliance get moved into the eatery. We then walked in. The man who had spoken to me welcomed us in English. I also heard Mandarin and Vietnamese spoken by staff. He found Keri's reservation and we got a corner booth. Yay! This eatery currently has Japanese BBQ lunch sets that start at $15.99 weekdays from noon to 4 pm. Such a steal! We got laminated menus. There's also a QR code on each table for the online version. There are three combo sets that all have these components: - Meat - Sushi - Salad * - Rice * - Soup * - Dessert * means items are fixed. The others have some flexibility to choose what you'd like. We opted for combos A and C. We essentially tried everything in our combos, which was fun. We got these items in combo A ($15.99): - Chef salad - Fried chicken - Steamed rice - Chicken marinated with shio koji - Thinly sliced pork belly - Japanese-style sausage with mozzarella - Seasonal veggies with king oyster mushrooms - Miso soup - Crème brûlée Combo C ($22.99) had these items: - Chef salad - Yuzu mayo fried shrimp - Steamed rice - AAA flat-iron steak - Toro beef with garlic sauce - Veggie platter - Scallops (2) - Miso soup - Mango sago Each combo had a choice of sushi. We ended up having three sushi choices in total: - California roll - Black dragon roll - Salmon taco Service was excellent. Servers were attentive clearing empty plates and refilling our pitcher with water. Grilling our food was fun and therapeutic. The chicken did stick the most on the grill. Otherwise, we had a good time using tongs to cook everything. Each combo came with kimchi, pickled cucumber, garlic, and lettuce. We loved the sides and ended up eating all the sliced garlic, both grilled and raw. Thoughts: - The proteins were delicious. They were flavourful and enjoyable to cook. They were all my favourites. - The seafood was excellent. The scallops were yummy. The yuzu mayo fried shrimp were massive! The sauce was yummy. - I loved the veggies. Button and king oyster mushrooms. Asparagus. Zucchini. All delicious. - The staples (salad, miso soup, and steamed rice) were perfect. I especially loved the miso dressing in the salad. I'm a soup person and it was a must. The steamed rice complemented the proteins and veggies nicely. - The sushi wasn't great. Not horrible. Nothing to write home about. This place specializes in BBQ and should stick to it. - The desserts were perfect. I loved the creamy crème brûlée custard with the crunchy top and refreshing mango sago. They were the perfect end to our meal. I used the women's washroom before we left. It was clean. No issues. We had a great lunch on our second attempt here. The Japanese BBQ was excellent. Had lunch here recently and was pleasantly surprised! The place is super clean and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Love the location which gives you a nice view overlooking the parking lot and roads through big windows that let in a ton of natural light -- it gives the space a really bright and open feel. I went for the lunch special buffet and it was a solid experience overall. The pepper beef was definitely the standout -- flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The creamy corn was also really tasty. I wasn't a big fan of the fish options, but everything else made up for it. The ice storm definitely didn't keep my friends and I indoors over the weekend here in Toronto. I'm so glad my gf brought me here as a foodie adventure. We opted for the "black ayce menu option" there honestly was plenty of variety considering it was the cheapest ayce option. Normally i'm not even someone who is too crazy about grilling cuts of beef as that's not really my fave protein but surprisingly all of their cuts of beef available for this ayce was soooo good. I obviously logged out on the lamb, had plenty of shrimp and ordered alot of king oyster mushroom and zucchini. Had multiple orders of the clams too. Something that i really appreciated about this place was they give you a full blown 2 hrs to eat comfortably unrushed. This place does get busy so you would need to make resos. 3.5 STARS I was at Shinta over the weekend for a birthday dinner. We opted for the cheapest ayce menu. Some meats were a bit tough, but some were pretty good like the kalbi. The sides were mediocre. The cold noodles were soggy, and the bibimbap was not good like before. The kimchee and pickles cucumbers were actually decent. The ready to eat item was the deep fried bun in condense milk. Even with the seating limit of 2 hrs, I felt the grill was very weak, it cooked the super thin cuts of meat quick, but thicker cuts like steak, sweet soy kalbi, and thick pork belly took forever to cook; or any item wrapped in aluminum foil. Service was very good, our server was quick and was always coming back to see if we needed anything or to remove any empty plates. Visited Shinta on a weekday evening and it was moderately busy. There are lits of parking spots available in the plaza. The staff was very attentive and would frequently come to clear our table and ask if we need to order anything. Their AYCE menu has a wide variety of meats to choose from and everything was very fresh. I love how they often add new items to their menu. On my last visit, they had matcha pudding for dessert and now for summer it is replaced with rose pudding. Overall, we will definitely be back for more Japanese BBQ! read more

Hmm, despite being told that this place is the best Japanese BBQ spot in town, I found it to be just okay. I had the Black Angus all-you-can-eat lunch and tried each of the beef and pork items on the menu. They tasted good, but there was too much oil on the meat; when I dipped a slice into the sauce, I could see the oil floating to the top. Out of all the items, only the marinated short rib was tender. It might just be me, but personally, I don't think this place is worth the price. Highly recommend the baked sweet potato with brown sugar and cheese though. The lemon iced tea jar was good, with real lemons and limes in it. The ambience was nice, unlike many other greasy BBQ restaurants; this place is clean and spacious. My hubby surprised me with Valentine's day dinner here. We said we will try it and I'm so glad we did! This is an AYCE resto and it has 3 tiers depending which menu you want o go with. My hubby picked the top tier because we wanted to try their waygu beef. The menu is extensive with lots to choose from such as Australian meat, chicken, vegetabls, bibimbap etc. We were so impressed with the quality of the meat and the marbling was amazing! We got the basic menu, but found the quality of food not the best. I love my cheese corn, but the cheese just wouldn't melt no matter how long we cook it. The shrimp and some of the meats weren't very flavourful. The meat was decent but nothing really stood out. My favourite item was the cold noodle side. I had a great experience at Gyubee and I got to say I would go back there instead of Shinta. They were also really strict with the 2 hour table sitting. This is my worst dining experiences for a typical Japanese or Korean BBQ. I came here last week to celebrate a family member's birthday. Upon arrival, it's funny that they only had the Wagyu menus on the table (and hid the lunch from us), which cost about 150 dollars per person. However, the place was somewhat oily and unhygienic (there was an aged oil grease and burnt meat bit on my table) - far from the average image of a fine-dining restaurant at that price range. I feel that even most family restaurants that serve cheap food care more about maintaining a clean and professional image than Shinta. I would definitely not trust the "high-quality" meat they serve like the wagyu on the "gold" menu. In addition, it was also very ridiculous to see they have Costco brands salt and peper all over the table (which were covered in grease )...I feel they could've at least kept those in standard shakers at least...as a chained, "upscale" restaurant. Extremely unprofessional. We decided to get lunch AYCE, but the server " warned" (with an attitude) us that we could not order anything after an hour and a half, as the last call. My mother and I then ordered all four available types of beef, pork belly, salad, and seafood. Ordering meat here is different from gyubee: you can't order them by pieces. Instead, you have to order everything in fixed quantities, so they can ensure to fill the guests up with cheaper quality meat and cuts by larger quantities. It is a sketchy business practice. The pork was bland (unlike what you'd get from Korean BBQ places, like Daldongnae), and the beef was overly oily. The mixed seafood tasted like watery rubber, and my mom noticed they used frozen seafood without properly thawing it. The salad was ok - they used the kewpie sesame dressing from Costco, not a homemade sauce, which was funny (and again, unsightly, considering that they are a chained restaurant yet can't even make their own dressing). The only beef option was not as oily was the rib cut. But unlike other BBQ restaurants, they just gave us an entire plate of uncut slaps of beef (without any cutlery or scissors on the side like the Korean restaurants or any self-respecting restaurants that have damn knifes for guests). One of my family members could not eat any because they were too tough. It was absurd. While eating and cooking the meat, one of the servers suddenly intruded on our table and snatched a plate that I was cooking away, leaving me completely speechless. At this point, I was rightfully pissed and asked them what the heck was that rude and unsightly behaviour about. They told me it was a "mistake" that they served us the plate of beef that was "exclusive" to the dinner menu. First, it is an AYCE restaurant, and we paid dearly - that was just one single plate of what...six pieces of thinly sliced meat (which, to mind you - the beef was also bland, lmao). Second, the restaurant acted like they could just randomly take away meals from our table even if they are the one screwed up - that was very rude and uncalled for. No apology nor compensation was made either. As we were about to wrap up our horrendous Shita experience, I ordered a Melona ice popsicle (as indicated on the menu). They told me they don't have it anymore - only some other random brand forward...well then don't put it on the menu. The server passed by and just threw a popsicle from his warm pocket on the table (it seemed that he was going around to ask people if they wanted that one). I was dying and laughing from crying at this point...like what... Shita - 0/10 & my family and I would not visit again. I will tell my friends not to come either. I can do 20 times better BBQ at home with meat from Galleria, and salt, pepper and salad dressing from Costco, as well to end everything with proper melona ice cream bars without the risk of heart attacks because of overly fat cut of cheap meat, unhygienic restaurants and extremely unprofessional servers and costumer services. Seriously, I'm not sure why they have a anything more than one star...Gyubee and Daldongnae are far better options. read more

There're 3 menus, and 2 of them have jaw-dropping prices, but the cheapest menu is still great & if you want to indulge a little without breaking the bank, you can pay for premium cuts by the plate too. We tried almost all the items & they were almost all either excellent or at least very good. Notable exceptions were the curry beef rice & Korean style chicken with cheese (buldak) which were still ok, & the creme brulee which was still decent. They have 3 flavours of Melona ice bars to choose from for dessert (in addition to creme brulee and soft serve ice cream). I read a few mixed reviews, so I was concerned, since I wanted the birthday person to have a good experience. We decided to go with the Black Angus Beef menu ($38.99 per person on weekends), and try it out first. The menu items arrived quite fast! Michael was our server, and I have to say, he exceeded my expectations! We have had our share of the usual abrasive, dismissive and impatient servers from decades of dining out at other establishments, but there was none of that here! I thought I recognized the manager, even with her mask on, from another restaurant, but that was several years ago. When she stopped by to discreetly inquire whom the birthday person was, I asked for her name. Sure enough, "Irene" was the same manager who provided amazing service, many years back. She made sure we enjoyed our dinner, and took great care of us. Michael had to assist with some other tables, so Harry took over, and provided the same expert service! Irene surprised our birthday guest with a mango ice-cream dessert, and gave a second one for my husband and me to share. I thought that was a very sweet gesture. Shinta is the place to experience quality Japanese BBQ with a fixing of premium Wagyu beef. The hard decision was whether to upgrade to Wagyu AYCE but since my wife tried it in Japan and wasn't blown away, we opted for the regular Black Angus menu along with an extra Wagyu order à la carte. I know I'm late to the party! The star of the show is prime kalbi short rib: sliced, well-marinated and decently marbled. A short time on the grill atop the BBQ flame is all that's needed. It tasted somewhat comparable to zabuton cuts of US gold grade Wagyu (crossbreed) that we tried, which were buttery moist with flavour akin to Angus beef. Also on the menu: thin cut beef tongue, toro beef, braised short rib topped with cheese, and sweet lemongrass pork loin steak were worth a taste too. Shinta has a variety of other menu items to keep things interesting other than grilled vegetables. Clams in sake and cheesy butter corn both have a delectable sweet aftertaste as appetizers. The takoyaki balls may not be authentic without bonito flakes but were satisfying enough for seconds. Deep fried buns with condensed milk were surprisingly delicious. For dessert we had a choice of... just banana Melona ice cream bar, it was not bad tho! Service started well between the supervisor and our waiter Harry who were both attentive and helpful. But a few items (e.g. squid and enoki mushroom) didn't show up from the kitchen and eventually the other waiters seemed a bit overwhelmed by the busy lunch. There is a 2-hr dine-in limit which didn't seem strictly enforced. Only so much greasy goodness that one can eat anyways. Weekday AYCE is $35.99 for Black Angus, and $80.99 / $129.99 for Silver / Gold Wagyu menu currently. There's also an early bird special which they forgot to apply for us. The meal was still worth it. It'd been awhile since dine-in, we were glad Shinta did a nice job of setting up partitions / distancing at each table as part of COVID precautions. read more

Shinta has pretty decent bbq but not much difference from other premium bbq places. The selection were decent and I like how they let you make reservations even if you're under the party of 6 people which most places don't let. Service was friendly and fast! It was pretty busy too on a weekday! read more
