I came with a few coworkers for lunch because we saw that they had new Lunch Combos that seemed like really good value. I've attached an image of the lunch combos. The restaurant is located inside the Empress Walk Mall and they do offer free parking for 2 hours so make sure you validate your parking ticket before leaving. The inside of the restaurant was modernly decorated and seating was very spacious and comfortable. The washrooms were really clean as well and service was exceptional. The waiter came and took away empty plates, replenished water and replaced our grill plates in a timely manner. We ordered 2 Combo A's and 1 Combo B which was $15.99 and $19.99 respectively. Each combo comes with 1 appetizer, seasonal veggies, salad, rice, kimchi, lettuce, miso soup, dessert and the different types of meats that comes with each combo. Everything tasted quite delicious and honestly this was a ton of food for the price. They might've made a mistake and gave us 2 portions of their beef since we ordered 2 Chicken Combo's and 1 Beef combo but we somehow ended up with more beef than chicken. If I do had to nitpick, I would say that the pork belly and their beef slices were really thin but at this price, that is to be expected. Unfortunately for dessert, they didn't have soft serve so I opted for their creme brulee which was so soft, creamy and delicious. I just wished it was a bit bigger. I tried my coworker's mango sago and it was creamy with just the right level of sweetness and wasn't too tart. I would highly recommend this place for their lunch combos but it's only available between 12pm-4pm on weekdays. These combos are great options for people that don't necessarily want to do their AYCE menu but still want some Japanese BBQ. I'll definitely come back and maybe try their lunch or dinner AYCE. I can only speak to the Black Angus menu as that's the only one I've tried. The truth is, if you're going to spend money for this menu, you might as well go to Gyubee. The meats here aren't marinated as well, they're pretty flavourless. Also, the service here isn't as friendly - you actually have to work to flag servers down to take your order, whereas at other bbq spots the servers happily stop by here and there to ask if you're doing alright and if you'd like to order more. If you're looking for some quality AYCE DIY table BBQ in willowdale, this is the spot to go. There is another ayce Japanese spot in the neighbourhood but shinta definitely takes the cake. Literally. They specialize in Wagyu AYCE which is definitely $$$$$ at $100+ for the silver set, but if you're just looking for a more basic meal, their black menu for around $43 is what you're looking for. Despite the smaller menu, it still comes with good stuff like pork belly, prime kalbi short ribs, garlic beef brisket, and steak with sweet soy sauce. Orders are served at a good pace and they've got lot of staff doing the rounds to take orders. During this summer they have a limited time menu featuring the juiciest chicken wings and beer battered Atlantic cod among other dishes. This is probably the best BBQ in Willowdale. We got the Silver option and we got all the Wagyu we want and they just kept on coming. We definitely got the value of what we paid for. Shinta is one of the popular spots in Toronto for Japanese BBQ serving a multi selection of menu tiers to choose from with varying level of meat options. Located on the second floor of the Empress Centre. It was my first time coming to this place so this experience was all brand new to me. BBQ: Got the basic tier level of AYCE. I'm not a big AYCE person but the selection of meats was quite an interesting selection that were new to me such as the beef tongue. I was a fan of the ribs and the thinly sliced beef. The steak was tough to eat so I wasn't entirely a big fan of that. Despite being super busy on a weekday evening (especially with a large group) the meats came fast. Side dishes/Desserts: I had some small bites of other dishes too such as the karaage, and corn cheese. They were pretty standard nothing out of the ordinary but worth trying. Of course you couldn't end the meal without a dessert. They had some nice options on the menu like the mantou buns with condensed milk, watermelon, and the ice cream (soft serve or popsicle). The price was around the standard pricing compared to other JBBQ spots for dinner. If you want to have more premium meat options the higher tier levels have them. This is the 2nd time I came to this location. The restaurant had many seatings. When you enter, you can see a window of all the different cuts of meat including the wagyu. Each reservation has a maximum of 2 hours. It's an all you can eat restaurant so you can order as much food as you want. The servers are nice and helpful. Will definitely come back here for more. My partner and I had our anniversary dinner here and got the silver wagyu ayce. This location is pretty spacious, I did not expect that much seating. At each table, there is a grill and a massive vent right above the grill so the smell doesn't linger too much. It was out first times trying wagyu, we tried almost everything on the first list on the menu. Never had fois gras before, can say that it has a very acquired taste (not a big fan of it). Out of all the premium meats we had, I would say my favourite one was the chef selected wagyu cuts so I have no idea what part it was from. I found some cuts to be too fatty so I trimmed those parts. My partner's review was that he did not feel justified paying that price for wagyu and it was on par with Gyubee but it was for sure worth the try. The only thing is that it sometimes took people long to come around, but it's also because they're very busy. This is a 2.5 star review Came here for lunch on a weekday. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of Empress walk, near the Dollarama. The place was completely empty when we arrived. They offer all you can eat yakiniku here. This means you grill the meat yourself at the table. The regular menu has 4.different beef items, some pork and chicken. A handful of vegetables and some carbs to choose from. It'll run you about $30 plus tax and automatic 12% tip per person. Remember you do the cooking yourself here. They also have some premium options which cost significantly more. We got the regular lunch. The meat itself was okay quality, but many items were not marinated and had no flavour. Especially the thick cut pork. Their chicken thigh pieces were sliced too thick and irregular. This makes it very difficult to determine if the inside is fully cooked - this is a VERY SIGNIFICANT ISSUE. I tried their salad and it was a tiny portion pee order - literally just one bite. I understand people want to focus on meat at this kind of place but this was a bit ridiculous. Overall this restaurant is not really worth the price. Remember unlike hot pot you can't really grill all the meat at the same time, so the cooking speed is going to limit the amount of food you can eat within the time limit, especially with a larger party. read more

Beautiful restaurant, amazing servers. The meat is pretty good. Some are too heavily marinated for my taste. I found the kimchi too heavily seasoned as well. But overall food was really good (the takoyaki was so cute and delicious). We had the black menu and ordered an extra serving of the wagyu. I dont know if we overcooked the wagyu or I dont have a refined palette but I could not tell the difference between the other slices of beef. We ended our meal with a soft served ice cream that was so refreshing and was such a nice end to dinner. I was worried about how the fire would flare up every now and then when a fatty piece of meat is placed on the grill but it is relatively safe. They have a fire extinguisher right above each grill. They offer appetizers which all of them taste amazing. I thought their fried chicken would be ok but no I was wrong. It tastes flavorful juicy and crispy. Their wagu was the most delicious piece of beef I ever had. They have dipping sauce aside, but the wagu is so good on its own I don't even need the sauce for it. I'm not a big fan of foie gras. Table limit was 2 hours, super friendly staff and location wise was much more convenient than the beaver creek one. I loved how it was inside north york center so essentially you could watch a movie before or after and even pick up groceries, etc. The decor was nice and spacious, we were seated near the window. This is my second time at Shinta and first time at this location, I figured I would give shinta another try as my first experience was not really good. Shinta offers a lot of variety of meats, they have a gold menu, sliver menu and regular menu. Both gold and sliver offers waygu while the regular menu offers varieties of meats similar to gyubee. I liked how there were more options but I disliked how bland and lack of flavor the meats had. I think I would stick with gyubee but I do love how they serve soft serve ice cream and they have a lot of apps and small eats like karrage that gyubee doesn't offer. read more

This location of Shinta Japanese BBQ is located at Yonge/Empress, on the second floor of Empress Walk. The Japanese BBQ chain currently has 2 locations within the GTA. They specialize in an all you can eat (AYCE) experience where you can choose from 3 different menus with differing price points based on the items offered in each menu (black, silver, or gold). The difference in the menus is that the silver and gold menus offer Australian M9 Wagyu cuts. There is also a Japanese A5 Wagyu add on menu as well if you'd like to splurge on those cuts of meat. The restaurant space occupies a fairly large area where there is ample room for small or large parties. Reservations are available only from Mon to Thurs where Fri/Sat/Sun is for walk in only. You also only get 2 hours of eating time and they only accept cash/debit. There is also a 12% service charge that is added to the bill automatically as well. My husband and I dined at Shinta on a Saturday night. We arrived at around 6pm where we were seated promptly. We were greeted by our server who mentioned that since it was our first time at Shinta, trying out the black menu would be a good idea. We actually opted for the gold menu (at $145.99 per person) as we were celebrating a special occasion. The gold menu does have all the Australian M9 wagyu cuts including rib eye, striploin, and the chef's premium wagyu cuts which include the tenderloin cut as well. Our goal was simple, to eat as much wagyu as we possibly could and not fill up on any food items that would occupy space in our stomachs. We had many platters of wagyu but our favourite cuts were the ribeye and tenderloin. Even though all the wagyu cuts were delicious, some cuts were of course more fatty and rich than others (esp the rib eye and tenderloin). With the marbling and quality of those wagyu cuts, some simple salt was all that was needed. I even tried to put the wagyu with foie gras....which was just pure melt in your mouth heaven. We also tried a few other items but went back to the wagyu. To cut the richness and fatiness of the wagyu, we also ordered salads, pineapple, and some kimchi. Dessert was also great as well, you get a choice of melona bars or their soft serve (which was delicious as well!) During our experience, the service was great. Our server knew exactly when to approach us and even told us when our last call order was. Food arrived at a reasonable time and our empty plates were also cleared promptly. Overall, great dining experience! Friendly and attentive service. Definitely a good experience to try those wagyu cuts (of course if you'd like to splurge those Japanese A5 wagyu cuts are worth it for sure...you will taste a difference). It's hard not to compare Shinta to other Japanese/Korean BBQ places around the city. I remember trying it once at the Richmond Hill location and leaving pleased but not thinking it was the best of the bunch. So when they opened this location and my wife suggested we go, I was like, sure, I'm in the mood for some grilling. I ended up leaving going OMG I think this may be my favourite Asian BBQ spot now! I think what I loved the most was the variety of non-meat options. Don't get me wrong: we got their most basic offering (Black Angus AYCE for $39 on the weekend), and the meats were really tasty and good quality. Of particular note were the toro beef, kalbi short rib, braised short rib topped with cheese, and sousvide pirk belly. But what I absolutely loved was the variety of non-meat options: There were standard seafood stuff like shrimps and squid, but other fancier like basa (served in a tin container so grilling it let the sauce it was swimming in seep through even more) and clams in sake (and the sake was generous enough so you really tasted it). There were the standard rice/noodle sides like bibimbap and udon, but the had sushi rolls (the shinta signature roll is the one to get). And there were the standard apps and veggies, but also ones you don't usually get in a basic menu like onsen egg, fried takoyaki, and deep fried bun with condensed milk (mmmmmmm). And I know all these non-meat stuff are great fillers and actually cheaper than if I loaded up on the prime meats... but I don't care. I love my variety, and Shinta definitely delivers on that end.
