The ambience is great, they have open dining area as well as private booth and rooms, dimmed lights and clean interior; great selection of food, from sushi and salad to seafood and meats for grilling... All you can eat! The only thing is when you're in a booth, it's hard to flag for help because the waiters can't see you, but the servers are all very friendly.

Very busy Japanese BBQ place at Leslie and Finch. The Front of House staff was friendly, he was busy too but was so attentive. We had the same experience with our server. The meat came out quickly. Great quality cuts! I also loved the seaweed salad. I could eat 10 of them in a row. There is a 2 hour seating limit but I felt it was enough time for 2 people. The place is also well designed and is bigger inside than it looks. Will definitely be going back for any special occasions.

(4 out of 5 stars) Visited Takumi Japanese BBQ in North York, a newly opened location that has been nicely renovated. The restaurant is large, modern, and comfortable, with many private booths that offer good privacy -- ideal for small groups or couples. We ordered the All You Can Eat Dinner for Two ($91.88). The highly promoted AAA Prime Beef Steak, limited to two pieces per person, was disappointing -- not tender and lacking in flavor, though perhaps we overcooked it slightly on the grill. Most of the other dishes were much better. The garlic shrimp, squid, red boneless beef, and lamb were flavorful and enjoyable. The cold tofu and seaweed salad were good appetizers, though a bit too salty. The Miso soup was ok, 6/10. The Onion soup has no taste 1/10. Desserts, however, were underwhelming. The vanilla ice cream cone had a coarse texture -- more like homemade shaved ice than smooth ice cream -- and the mango pudding lacked richness and flavor. Overall, Takumi offers a pleasant setting and decent variety, but the food quality was uneven. I'd rate it 4 out of 5 stars -- worth trying once, though I'm not sure I'd return.

Just visited Takumi new location at North York and loved everything. The meat were super fresh and well-marinated, and the interior design is very beautiful, cozy with enough privacy for charting and gatherings. Staff were friendly and attentive too. Definitely a new favourite spot and I'll back soon

Newly opened Japanese style AYCE bbq spot. Love their private sitting design. We visited on Wednesday around 5pm, and it was pretty empty yet. Food came pretty quickly and each dish portion was pretty good (so actually we didn't need to order several times) Recommended dishes: - Steak is 2 per person (it's pretty big) - Beef short rib $ Beef brisket - Poke bowl (salmon w/spicy mayo) - Salmon Fillet - Daily dessert These are must-try. Other menus were satisfying too. I was too full and couldn't even get to deep fried foods. Let me know if anyone tried!

I'll give it a 5 star. Food is great, ingredients are fresh, you get good portions to start with. Basic service is there. You get your order in, dishes come up timely, and they make the rounds to clear plates. The grills are hot and they have more surface area so it needs to be greased, otherwise the meats get stuck quickly. We put down some pork belly to get things going and it was a lot smoother. They have beef fat available but it wasn't automatically provided. Ventilation is built into the grill itself, so the smoke never leaves the grill area, so you don't leave smelling like you got bbq'd. This is compared to other BBQs where they have vents above you. We were offered to exchange grills several times, which is nice. I like that there are a lot of non marinated beef options. Meats are thin enough to grill fast, but not too thin. The salmon in particular was well seasoned. For drinks, I ordered a watermelon juice. You can literally watch them blend up your watermelon behind the bar, so it's as natural as it gets as far as fruit juice is concerned. Dessert was very good. The creme brulee was very light, very creamy, and not too sweet. They seem to be opened recently so maybe some things are not as optimal.

Came here for dinner for 4. It's still soft opening so I give it some grace. I called beforehand but they do not take reservations if you're not a party of 6 or more. The food came out pretty quick as there wasn't many tables. I think the duration of our time there there was only 3 tables including us. The grill definitely was powerful however, please don't let your server put it to max, our food burnt so easily and the fire was so strong that hot oil from the meats was splashing everywhere which is a hazard. Meats were average, the steak were really tough to chew after the first round and the pork belly was literally all fat with barely any meat. However, what's disappointing was the service, it was almost non-existent. It was super hard to find a staff and they rarely checked up on us to clear plates or see if we wanted to order more. Overall a disappointing experience.

Really enjoyed our experience at Takumi. You grill the food yourself, which makes it fun and interactive, and everything we ordered tasted great. The meats were good quality and cooked nicely on the grill, and the sushi was really flavourful and fresh. Everything came out at a good pace, so we never felt rushed or overwhelmed. The atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, making it easy to enjoy a laid-back meal. Service was friendly and helpful without being overbearing. To top it all off, the soft serve taro ice cream at the end was the perfect ending to the meal. Prices felt fair for the quality and experience. Definitely a place I'd come back to and recommend.

The restaurant is super quiet and they offer great quality of food with great service, and the price is expensive if you choose to order sukiyaki set (expect $80+ per person). You can choose between sushi sets at different price level or sukiyaki from the menu. This suits the need of our group given some people prefer sushi but some couldn't eat raw food. They also offer a couple of limited appetizer dishes such as tempuras and unagi don. If you booked the sukiyaki table and want to order sushi, you need to call them in advance to notify which sushi sets you want. We tried the sashimi and sushi courses at $55, which included miso soup, 5 pieces of sashimi, 8 pieces of sushi (squid, toros, salmon, scallop etc.), handroll and matcha or black sesame icecream at your choice. The sushi is smaller than average, suitable for small eaters. The course is totally worth the money. I love every piece of sashimi and my favourite sushi include the scallop and the squid. Everything was super fresh. The dessert was also having the perfect sweetness level for me. In addition, we also tried the sukiyaki for two ($110), which includes mushrooms, cabbages, great quality of Angus beef, yummy tofu and udon. Again, all the material was with great quality and super fresh. I especially liked the sweet sukiyaki soup, the tofu and the udon. We also ordered some shareable dishes including chawanmushi, unagi don and cod. Cod was cooked to perfect (soft and flavourful), and unagi don had quite decent portion. It would be better if the unagi could be softer from my personal opinion. Chawanmushi was mediocre. Overall, I strongly recommend this restaurant to fan of Japanese cuisine. It meets different people's needs by offering both cooked and raw food options, and the sushi set definitely has great value for money.

That's because every other guest was a well-known "regular" -- a very good sign. We were ushered through the tranquil restaurant and seated at the sushi bar, a zen ambience. We chose the $55 sushi+sashimi omakase lunch course, and it didn't disappoint. The eight pieces of nigiri featured a somewhat typical selection of fish (and hotate/scallop), but slightly edgy and unique in the choice of seasoning and flavours, prepared by Chef Takinami with all the pomp and ceremony and you would expect from fine omakase. The pacing was excellent, we never felt rushed from piece to piece; the wait staff were attentive as would be expected from a high-end Japanese restaurant, on par with omakases that cost three times as much. Overall, incredible value on the meal, for both the food and experience. We couldn't help but look around at what the regulars were enjoying (in addition to their omakase nigiri) -- botan ebi nigiri with deep fried shrimp heads, chawanmushi, cooked dishes featuring monk fish livers, tempura appetizers and more... some great ideas for our next visit!

It was extraordinarily quiet when we came upon this place on a Saturday night. Nevertheless, the food was absolutely delicious and arrived piping hot and well portioned. As expected from this popular chain, the katsu was superbly crispy on the outside while still maintaining the tenderness of the meat inside. The variety they have on the menu - including various sauces, cheese options, and udon - will keep you coming back for more. The most remarkable aspect of this particular location, though, was the quality of the service. Our waitress was so attentive and sweet, patiently answering all our questions and never leaving our glasses even close to empty. We were offered free refills of the miso soup as well which was a nice touch! Highly recommended to anyone shopping at Yorkdale nearby - skip the overcrowded food courts and mall restaurants and head on over here!

They have fun, interestingly crafted meals. Two of which we had ordered are the Carbonara Udon $17.50 and the Brick Cheese Katsu $22.90. The meals are not only cool and exciting, but the taste of the food can also properly back up the gimmick. The Carbonara Udon has creamy carbonara sauce and comes with 2 tempura pieces. For the Brick Cheese Katsu, I ordered the Gold & Silver Katsu to be able to sample both the Cheddar cheese wrapped inside the pork loin (Gold Katsu), as well as the Mozzarella cheese which is the Silver Katsu. It is a great combination of hot, fried food with a cheesy, creamy filling. Service was honestly a mixed bag. On many occasions, we found ourselves having trouble getting the waiters' attention because the staff are situated at the far back of the narrow restaurant. It was a good thing thay the staff are very courteous. They attended to and took care of an isolated request we had during the time we were there. The menu may be a bit more pricey compared to other similar establishments. Almost all of the meals start off at the $20 range.

We ordered this time the Yorokobi set for 2 and upgraded the sushi to brown rice for $5 extra and upgraded the green dragon roll that came with the meal to volcano salmon roll (which is one of their popular special rolls) and paid the difference. We also added a hamachi carpaccio just for more more protein for my SO because he thinks it might not be enough, but we were left super full. I love that the sushi wasn't loaded with rice and it was thinly included, we did mention that we usually don't like that much and the server said they can even adjust the rice content in the sushi.... We didn't confirm to adjust it but perhaps they went with it because rice is perfectly thin in the maki and less than usual for a nigiri, which is great because otherwise I don't know if we would have finished the meal. $5 to upgrade to brown rice for the sushi set that didn't have that much rice is still IMO a bit steep. Other that, the sushi is fresh, the special rolls are eye catching and tasty and the hamachi carpaccio was good too, LOVE the presentation. I think the best thing here is still their special rolls though! Server is so personable and made sure we were well taken care of. Only feedback I have here is the miso soup that with the Yorokobi set is way too salty I couldn't finish mine after a sip. Ambiance was clean with little Japanese decor throughout. They have a huge parking lot at the back and you can enter and exit from the back instead of trying the front as there is very little parking in the front lot.

This was a slightly rough accompaniment to the sashimi.

The sushi set had a variety of super fresh Nigri and sashimi, including bluefish tuna, salmon, bream, bass etc. The curry teishoku was so good and flavorful. This curry was served with a super tender chicken thigh with an assortment of seasonal vegetables ( lotus root, mushroom etc). This made the curry super rich and flavourful. Special shout out the Hay Cheesecake - not too heavy and sweet, yet still rich. A must try at this restaurant. Overall, this a very stylish restaurant, comfortable seating with great service. Parking is found on the streets or nearby parking lots. Despite Winterlicious being over, this place does serve fine japanese cuisine and sushi and would love to come back to check out their regular menu as well!

Hay Sushi you're an All Star you've got your game on, well played,…read moreHay Sushi you're a Rock Star you deserve to get paid. That's right, I had to fuse some famous song lyrics into this review to make it as original and stellar as the food at Hay Sushi was! A simple Google search will tell you that traditional Japanese food, or washoku, is renowned for its nutritional balance; it emphasizes seasonal ingredients, small portions, and the ichiju-sansai (one soup, three sides) structure, which includes rice, miso soup, fish or soy, and vegetables, often eaten until 80% full. - Hay Sushi does just that! Everything they serve is understated yet undeniably hits the spot. I had a 3-course Winterlicious meal that was a delight with every bite and every course. Sometimes with set menus you might worry that the quality, quantity, or variety is less than satisfactory but this was far from it. Granted, they had run out of 2 items from their appetizers by the second day of Winterlicious but every last remaining item on the menu was different from the rest and offered a new dimension for your taste buds. The nori tacos are a testament to the fact that incredible things can come in small packages. They come discreetly served in their own little armchair-style pedestals, and guess what?, they do deserve to be put on pedestals as the blend of flavours and textures achieved with each one is truly remarkable. I had the spicy salmon nori taco and the veggies nori taco, both were unbelievable. So here I am wondering if the nori tacos were a one-hit wonder and the second course comes with it's full array of perfectly arranged 3 sides, main, rice, miso soup. I had the Sapporo Style Soup Curry Teishoku. This was not spicy but had a uniquely charred taste supplemented with vegetables such as squash, mushroom, pepper, onion, and lotus root. The chicken was succulent and even the rice was spot on. If you thought sides would be unremarkable, you would be wrong. The daikon, green vegetables and pickled cucumber, carrots, and raddish all pulled more weight than I ever thought was possible. The freshness and impact of each food item even came down to the ginger that was probably the most memorable ginger I've ever had and I never thought ginger alone could ever be that impressive. At this point of the meal I'm far more than 80% full, but hay, there's still dessert! And yes, dessert did not disappoint. I ordered a seemingly simple sorbet but lo and behold the sorbet was truly made with Asian pear and tasted like an explosion of the said flavour; not too icy, not too sweet, just right. If Japanese food truly prides itself on providing balance in nutrition, ingredients, and flavour, Hay Sushi should be very proud indeed

The katsu was excellent with its light, crisp batter, and the special set came with a great variety of sides plus both rice and a small bowl of udon. The pizza and wings were also fantastic--we ordered the half-and-half pizza with the signature shrimbul (highly recommend if you like a little heat) and Korean bulgogi. Tips: - Make a reservation, as this eatery can get busy…read more - This place has bento box sets every day from 11 am till 4 pm. You get a lot for a great price. On Sunday, I got together with two friends for lunch at Hana Don. Markham has a location that I have yet to visit. My friends come to this one at CF Fairview Mall often and recommended that we come here. I booked a reservation for three at 12:30 pm online. It was easy. I drove over to this mall, which has changed a lot. There are more eateries that face Sheppard Avenue East and are connected to the mall, but you don't have direct access to it. The Moxie's is still there. I didn't recognize the others. Parking was challenging. This mall was busy. I ended up finding a spot close to the former Hudson's Bay store. I then walked over. I entered the eatery and a man greeted me. I let him know that I had a reservation under my name. He found it and guided me to a table in the corner of the eatery. My friend walked in and saw me through the window. They came over and we chatted while figuring out what we wanted to eat. We got these items: - Chicken katsu udon - Yuzu matcha soda (me) - Sirloin set (me) - Chicken teriyaki set - Dynamite roll One of my friends had udon for the first time. It was in broth. The chicken katsu came on a separate plate. I had a piece and it was tasty. She loved her meal. The udon was chewy. It looked good. My other friend was recovering from a cold, so we kept things safe by not sharing anything with him. He got the chicken teriyaki set and ate everything up. He ordered a dynamite roll and we had his California roll that came with his meal. I was pleased that his appetite was in good shape. She and I shared the California roll. It was delicious. It had imitation crab and avocado. This place was generous with ingredients in this roll. It was fresh and satisfying. I got the yuzu matcha soda. It was heavenly. I stirred it up before I drank it. It had the perfect balance of citrusy, sweet yuzu with good matcha and fizz. So refreshing! I loved my sirloin set. The sirloin steak don was exceptionally filling. The steak morsels were flavourful and perfectly cooked. It came with a lot of rice that was perfectly steamed. This set came with sashimi mori. I loved the salmon, but the smoked fish wasn't the best. The veggie tempura was excellent. The eggplant, sweet potato, and squash weren't greasy. They were crispy and yummy. The amazuzuke was excellent. I got white radish cubes that were pickled in what tasted like yuzu. Each cube cleansed my palate. I need to make some at home! The miso soup was excellent. I loved the cubed tofu. The salad was okay. The dressing tasted bland compared to everything else. It needed more miso or something. The sets were a great deal. The quality was superb. They are available every day between 11 am and 4 pm. We were too stuffed to get any dessert. The ube tiramisu intrigued me. I'll need to find room to enjoy it next time. It was busy here. The downside was that we had to flag our server to get more water and the bill. Otherwise, everything that we consumed was yummy. I paid with a credit card. I tipped and was done. Yay! I used the washroom before we left. The women's washroom was clean. No issues. This eatery is a great place to catch up with friends over delicious food. I'd like to come here on a weekday and gauge the parking scene. I'd return to try more good eats and drinks. (187)
