Ordered waffle cone with 2 scoops and paid by apple play through my phone The cashier said it was 9...ish dollars Got charged 13.08 so I went back to the store to ask. The cashier said she has to ask the manager because they don't know why $4 tips was added...weird so she asked the guy who was working with her and he then walked into the back for a short seconds and then give me $4 back in cash The ice cream was...ok

Got an ice cream milk shake which definitely was very tasty but also overpriced. The milkshake itself was $10 and then to add a few mini m&ms on was an extra $1.50 which I thought was a complete rip off. The ice cream itself was high quality and the milkshake was delicious. Located in the food court in Hillsdale Mall.

Mini cup: White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle

Located in the main dining area on the 2nd floor of the Hillsdale Mall, this kiosk was packed since it was sweltering outside. I've bought Häagen-Dazs ice cream at the grocery store before, but I wanted to see how this location would compare. I ordered a Mini cup ($5.99) of White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle ice cream. +Creamy and milky with tartness from the raspberry swirl and bitterness from the dark chocolate chips. -Melted quickly -Overpriced for the quality and size: A waffle cone was an additional $1.50, which makes this more expensive than artisanal ice cream shops in SF. *Verdict: If you're going to try something, go with a flavor/item that isn't sold in stores. I'll stick to the pints of Häagen-Dazs at the grocery store.

Was around $7 for an ice cream cone (costed $1+ extra for the cone-- the cup is cheaper. Long line though and service was fast. The ice cream itself was delicious but not worth the portion size and steep price point. Ample seating or walking available.

It's what you would expect from Haagen-Dazs. Ice cream won't be that different from store bought ones, so it's still good. Definitely order their special desserts instead of just getting slightly overpriced ice cream. Good service!

Came here for some much needed dessert with my little munchkins!! We placed an order for a mini scoop of vanilla ice cream and a mini scoop of strawberry ice cream. I'm not sure why it was so hard for the employee to understand that but it took a for us to repeat the order a number of times, which also included a whole lot of pointing and hand signals. Lmao. Our party moves over to the registers and the little ones last minute decide they wanted toppings. We apologize for the last minute request of gummy bears and rainbow sprinkles only to be given a stare of annoyance. FUN!! 2 stars. The employees could be a little bit more patient and understanding when it comes to the indecisiveness of kids. Ice cream was good but it wasn't anything memorable. The cost didn't break the bank but I wouldn't consider this cheap so expecting decent customer service shouldn't be too much to ask. Meh- save yourself some dough and get yourself a tub at the grocery store.

Came after watching a movie at Cinépolis. There was a small group in front of us and just one person working. She was able to efficiently help them and then it was our turn. As we walked up, a huge amount of people came behind us but the worker was calm enough still to let me try a couple flavors before deciding. As we went to pay, another worker from the back came out and I saw as they continued to help all the other customers. Cookie dough ice cream was really good and I'd come back. Maybe just in a cup cus I didn't realize a cone is an additional almost

Stopped to get the princess some ice cream. Two sides with plenty of options. There's ice cream and sorbet options. We got some raspberry sorbet with sprinkles and the Java chip. Servings are big. One scoop was more like two scoops but I'm not complaining. Workers were very fast and patient waiting on our daughter to make up her mind.

Came here to pass time before heading out for the day. Stopped by when they were just opening to get a smoothie. We got a Strawberry Banana Smoothie. The employees were nice and kind even though we can right when they were finishing setting up. The smoothie was good and we truly enjoyed it.

Ice creams available at Häagen-Dazs in the Hillsdale Shopping Center in San Mateo.

Located in the second floor food court in the newly remodeled Hillsdale Shopping Center in suburban San Mateo, California, Häagen-Dazs represents both the old school and new school waves when one thinks of how sweet treats are served in a traditional indoor mall setting. I've been to a few Häagen-Dazs locations before, and this by far was the busiest I've been to. I suppose the combination of the heat outside as well as the amount of people inside, being combined with the fact that they were the only vendor in the Hillsdale Food Court serving ice cream contributed to their popularity. As the line eventually moved, I was able to walk around their counter area where they have their ice creams to see what flavors they were offering today as with a multitude of big screen menus showing everything they offered in terms of treats and drinks, but their flavors was nowhere to be seen. Although they had your traditional flavors such as Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate Chip and Mint Chip on one side of their "L" shaped counter, the other side had more of their unique flavor combinations including Caramel Cone and Rum Raisin. It was this side is where we decided to focus on the ice cream that we wanted to order. Although they had plenty of menu items that intrigued us from Ice Cream Sandwiches to Dazzler Sundaes to Milkshakes and Frappes, we were there just to sample a small scoop of ice cream, especially after we saw their prices. Just for a mini scoop of ice cream they charge $4.99. So with this in mind, we ordered a mini scoop of their Brownies a la Mode and a mini scoop of their Sea Salt Caramel Truffle. After all was ordered and scooped our total bill was $10.93 with tax wasn't necessarily the most affordable bill we've seen. With our scoops in had we somehow managed to get lucky and snag a table in their stylish food court and we sat back and really enjoyed our small cups of ice cream which were rich and creamy and filled with an abundance of flavors and little bits of brownie bites that prove that Häagen-Dazs provides well composed ice cream that is as good as it gets. The fact that it was almost 11 dollars for two miniature cups of ice cream is what I will never get over. This and the fact that they have clearly raised prices almost a dollar across the board during the past year is disappointing, especially when you consider that at both discount retailers and grocery stores they on occasion sell their trademark pints for the exact same price. A return visit to Häagen-Dazs in any mall would require some serious thought as I have to admit there are more exciting and unique things to get your sweet tooth satiated. There's both a ShareTea and an Uncle Tetsu located in this same Shopping Center Food Court, and a Jamba Juice in their outdoor plaza, but those options are certainly a more acquired taste and not everyone would enjoy those options. And who doesn't love ice cream? So what Häagen-Dazs does provide is a fast option for those looking for a quick snack with a little whipped cream and/ or a few sprinkles on top, which Häagen-Dazs thankfully has plenty of, thanks to a solid counter display and menu options ranging from full dessert meals to drinks, it's all here. Sometimes I do wish they had a little more competition from a local purveyor of ice cream delights say a Dreyer's or an It's It opening a location here, then it might spark a little rivalry between them and Häagen-Dazs, so at least Häagen-Dazs can pick up their game. Because you know I would come back for a sweet creamy blended drink when it is calling my name, but the mini scoops of ice cream, I can enjoy that in the privacy of my own home!

This one star is purely for Hagen-Dazs as a brand and for the store. There were 3 ladies serving the customers and they were awesome. Working non stop to serve the long line of people. So what was the problem. Level 1 of the mall advertised the peppermint bark flavor now in season at the store. So we walked all the way to the food court at the other end and stood in the long line. There were atleast 10-15 people ahead of us. More posters advertising the peppermint bark flavor were pasted all over the store. Maybe 4-5 of them. When we reached the counter the lady tells us the flavor is out of stock. Why advertise. Why not tell people that's it not available. Looks like bait and switch. So I settled for sea salt caramel truffle. In a chocolate dipped cone. Two waffle cones( one was a regular one) with a single scoop of ice cream cost us $16. Flavors we chose because we waited for 15 mins. Was it good? Not really. I couldn't taste the sea salt. Totally disappointed. Overpriced and over hyped. Would I go again? No. I will go to the nearest grocery store and pick a pint. I won't have to stand 15 mins in line before I find out something is not available.

I remember stopping by her for a sweet treat with my now former boyfriend when we were shopping one weekend. I got the Dulce De Leche sundae looking dessert while he got something chocolate-y. I don't remember his too much, but I definitely remember mine was yummy and sweet. I really did love it! I've only ever tried Haagen-Dazs from the cartons that you can get from grocery stores so this was truly a treat in trying their creations at a storefront.

I'm not sure how it managed to happen, given how long they've been around and how many times I've…read moreeaten around 3rd Ave, but I had no idea Dessert Republic even existed, let alone been here. Presumably, never walking down their block of the Main St. alley had a lot to do with it, but who knows how much longer it would've taken if not for my friends suggesting we come here for dinner. Which is kind of ironic, considering the name of this place! While nothing about the outside of Dessert Republic really stands out, the decor inside is great. It may not be all that flashy nor have much of an IG aesthetic, but I like how it has a Hong Kong/Chinatown alley sort of look to it. As for the menu, true to their name, there's no shortage of desserts to choose from, whether it be hot desserts, like glutinous rice balls, sweet tofu, or egg pudding, cold desserts, like mixed fruits, sago, or ice cream sundaes, egg puffs, and crepes. In addition, they also have a bunch of regular food options, from snacks and dim sum items, to rice plates, noodle soups, and even lomo saltado. -- (#A03) POPCORN CHICKEN Not terrible, but not popcorn chicken either. Rather, this felt more like the salt & pepper porkchop dishes I've had in the past - the batter was thick, the chicken was unmarinated, it was seasoned with just salt and pepper, and it was topped with cut peppers instead of crispy basil. -- (#S01) BRAISED BRISKET & WONTON NOODLE SOUP Overall, this was a mixed bag. On the plus side, the bowl was decently loaded, the wontons were plump, and it had chunks of beef tendon, which were tender. On the other, while the noodles were fine, the veggies were way overcooked and the beef was chewy. -- (#M08) SUPER STRAWBERRY - Strawberry Freeze, Aloe Jelly, and Strawberries Topped with Strawberry Ice Cream Undoubtedly, this had a lot of strawberry flavor to it. Even though the strawberry freeze didn't do a ton for me, especially as it melted, I liked how well the aloe jelly, strawberries, and ice cream complemented each other. As far as service goes, I've seen some folks mention running into issues, but I've actually found it to be entirely unremarkable, for better or worse. Each time I've been here, the workers haven't really gone beyond the basics (take orders, bring out dishes, take care of checks, etc.), but I never really expect anything more than that either. Still, they do seem to be relatively friendly and get orders out decently fast, which certainly counts for something. Since I've clearly only had a small handful of what their menu has to offer, there's the distinct possibility (probability?) that I haven't had the best of what Dessert Republic has to offer. However, based on what I've ordered and my friends' egg puffs and sweet tofu that I've tried (both were fine), the desserts here definitely seem to be the safer bet overall. Which is handy since they stay open so late, especially on Friday and Saturday nights (until 1am).

Granted, my friends probably hyped it up a bit too much while we were waiting in line (I think it was already their second or third time going), but, regardless, I thought it was just okay. Fast forward all of these years later and I have to say - whether it's because my tastes have changed or because I found a flavor that I really liked, this place is so much better than I remember! With so many boba joints and dessert shops nearby, it's pretty easy to overlook Beard Papa's. Being located on the edge of downtown/3rd Ave certainly doesn't help, but, for something quick and convenient (and different), they're a decent option. While the menu may not look all that extensive, it has a fair amount to offer when you consider how you can mix and match your choice from their near dozen cream puffs/eclairs and handful of cream fillings. Add to that the occasional seasonal/featured flavors they'll have and their assortment of lava cakes and cheesecakes and there's plenty to choose from! -- ST. VALENTINE'S RASPBERRY ECLAIR - Raspberry Cream Custard-filled Eclair with White Chocolate Coating and Raspberry Frosting This was a seasonal offering (admittedly, an older one), but if they ever added this to their regular menu, I'd easily get this again. Surprisingly, this actually wasn't super sweet and I loved how well the raspberry and white chocolate flavors complemented each other. -- GREENT TEA ECLAIR WITH VANILLA CUSTARD FILLING Not nearly as good as the St Valentine's Eclair, but way better than the original Vanilla Cream Puff I had before. The frosting had a strong hit of green tea to it, and the custard was fine, but, this time, the cream puff felt a little stale/dry-ish. While I definitely enjoyed Beard Papa's cream puffs/eclairs more than I did before, I can't say I've loved everything about this location. Mainly, the service here has been a little uneven - the first time we stopped in, the guy behind the counter looked really annoyed with having to help us and seemed like he was dying for us to leave (FWIW, we walked in almost an hour before they closed). Our last visit, though, the workers were friendly and super fast, as they handed us our eclair before we could even finish paying. Even though my opinion of Beard Papa's has definitely improved, since I never really crave cream puffs/eclairs and limit my sweets to the occasional scoop(s) of ice cream or milk tea, I can't say Beard Papa's is on the verge of getting into my regular dessert rotation. However, given how much I enjoyed their St. Valentine's Raspberry Eclair, I'm definitely more open to coming back than ever before if/when should the desire come along, especially since they don't have those same long lines anymore! THREE AND A HALF STARS rounded up for now.
