I went to the restroom after checking out and an employee proceeding to put my items away after the assistant manager told me to leave my cart there. After I drove 25 minutes home and realized I had several missing items I called and found out they knew someone put some of my paid for items away. After I drove back half of the stuff I already paid for was missing. I've always shopped here because I like the customer service so I justified the higher prices but I will never give this store again. read more

Wait. What?? I thought that Harding's were just little, small town groceries that could charge a little more for their convenience. This place is so much bigger and nicer than all of the other Harding's I have been to! I'm super glad I chose to go with this local grocer than a national chain! I genuinely enjoyed walking through the store this afternoon. The deli with soups, salads and olives was tempting, the deals were great, and the produce section was beautifully laid out. Also, the store was impeccably clean. I would totally shop here regularly if I lived close by. Great job, Harding's! read more

Easy in, easy out, and with a pretty decent selection. Prices are higher than Meijer, but saving hours of time is worth it to me these days. I think I've averaged a couple hours in store on most of my recent Meijer trips -- much of that in line -- where is between parking walking in shopping checking out and getting back out to the car again I'm usually about 10 minutes at Harding's. The quality in the deli and produce departments is on point (I especially recommend the Latava beans cucumber hummus. It's the stuff!!) including some hard to find items like fresh bean sprouts. read more

I do most of my food shopping at Harding's. I really like their meat and I find the employees very helpful. The have a good deli and it's an easy store to find what you want and need and also very easy to check out. I particularly like they don't have ANY self checkouts! I NEVER have to wait to check out. It may cost a little more than shopping at Meijer but I really don't mind. I just don't get my non-food items there but for my food shopping, I prefer Harding's! read more

it may have been the fact at your 9th st location the gentleman working in aisle 2 noticed me using an EBT card and wanted to show off to his hs friends in aisle 1 where I was at. after the transaction I heard him say " go get a job ", it was actually quite painful to hear, as I am battling 4 cancers, and was on my way to Bronson cancer center to get this chemo bag off I get to wear 10 days a month. I understand being young and seeing an old guy spending $6 with a EBT CARD because he hasn't been able to work for 2 years.... I wanted to speak up about it, but let me just say, I hope he nor anyone in his family has to to deal with something like this. 10 years ago I would have let him have it, but 10 years ago I was 60# heavier, and would have been working. I know he said it to be funny, however I will go back to supporting the big chain stores, as no one should make comments to customers when they don't know the situation. I am just sad that I had to hear it, and I hope that young man never encounters cancer or anyone in his family. it's devastating to the body and his comments were devastating to my soul. people truly need to think before they speak. I am not an angel, I have said stupid things and didn't know what the person was going through. I do know I would love to trade places, just for 10 days with a chemo bag hanging off your hip. I would love to do what he was doing, nothing but judging and being the comedian. I truly hope he never has to experience what I am going through, however grab a broom or something, your work ethic and comments are bound to not set you up for success. best of luck to him and your organization, I have never experienced such evil from a child. read more

A good produce section, a good selection of wine, a deli with many options that is about all i come here for and i find myself frequenting this stores over others increasingly more often. I never really have a long wait to check out and i can always park close to the entrance. read more

I ordered a red velvet sheet cake for my Dad's 90th birthday party. Kathleen was great. She did a fantastic job creating the whimsical "dominoes" cake that I asked for. The price was reasonable. This Hardings has the best bakery. I have to order cakes for our office for birthdays or other office celebrations. For years, Hardings has done a fantastic job. Their cakes are moist, and everyone loves their whipped topping icing. My order is always ready when I tell them what time I'll be there to pick it up. And the pricing is very attractive - 1/2 sheet cake is around $34 with a photo imprint. Thanks to the bakery staff for keeping our employees happy. I also want to mention the cashiers are very friendly. One I hadn't seen in about a year and she remembered me. How's that for service! read more

Though we live twice as close to a Meijer store than to this Harding's, my husband and I would rather patronize Harding's any day. Their service is top-notch, the staff could not be more friendly or more ready to assist the customer. They pull off what most merchants only hope to manage -- making their customers very comfortable and satisfied, while maintaining a high level of efficiency. The only time I ever saw a line at checkout, it was less than a day until Christmas. In addition, we prefer their meat and produce hands down -- fresher and better quality than any competitor. And, when I avail myself of their pick up service, my order has been filled with as-good or better items than I would have picked for myself with no difference in price. Plus, I have the benefit of getting the inside track to customized requests, whether it be the size of a roast or the freshness of bread. Such great attention to detail! So glad we moved here where they are a presence. There were no Harding's stores where my husband and I moved from and we feel like we stumbled on a real bonus for the relocation (Kroger's was the best we could do before the move). read more

No where near the quality of a Meijer. This store is run down, dated, and quality isn't above par in my opinion. I've tried the steaks and even quickly stopped in for some cilantro. Cilantro lasted 2 days and the steak had bad fat lined throughout it. I even sifted through about 30 packages, to a point where the butcher came over and told me that just about everything that he's cut looks that way. YIKES! Anyway, I'm not against going there, probably will still stop in for emergencies, and yes, I am biased towards Meijer, but if I was a business, I'd want to be compared to the market leader. Neither are a Whole Foods if that makes you feel better ;) read more

Very friendly customer service at the deli. They all work as a team to help out the customers. Came in for some deli meats and I have to say the meat tastes better than the other place I normally go to. The other shelf meats had excellent color to them and they also had a decent selection. read more

Things I love about this specific Hardings: They have local meat - both beef and pork from Bearfoot Farms, and chicken from Otto's chicken. They have a good selection of foods and a good deli. The only negative is that they're a tad pricier, but I put that in the "you get what you pay for" category. If I'm willing to pay more for local food, I'm willing to pay more for a store to stock stuff like that. read more

My favorite grocery store in the Portage MI area. It's large enough to have everything I need but small enough to get in and out quickly and offer great service. The deli and meat counter people are always prompt and ready to wait on you. It's easy to find someone when I have a question. There's always a check out line open and they don't make you ring up your own Groceries. The cashiers wait at the front of their lanes and get you right in. If the service desks sees that you only have a few items they'll offer to check you right out. They have a good wine and cheese selection. They have good sales. They offer to take your groceries to your car if you need help. It's not a hike from my car to the front door unlike the big box stores. They offer locally grown meats. Drive up pharmacy. It has a small town feel and even offers a bike rack out front. Prices may be a little higher than Meijer or Walmart but it's cheaper than others like D&W. I don't mind paying a small percentage more for service and convenience . read more

We like to come here to grocery shop for a lot of reasons, but I have to say though, the prices are usually higher than Meijer or Walmart. I think you are paying for the quality. The bakery is fantastic - we always get a quick sweet treat from here. The deli is great too - the quality of meat is what keeps us coming back here. They also have sushi, which is nice when we are craving it! It's a very clean store - the last thing you want in a grocery store is it to be filthy! They have a great beer and wine selection - lots of Michigan beers to choose from. read more

I love this Hardings! My husband and I live nearby so it's our go to store. We stop in several times a week just because it's so convenient. The staff is super friendly, and many of them remember us and I love that. The prices are a little higher here than at Meijer, but I would rather pay a few cents more at Hardings than have to push through the hoards of people at Meijer. Plus they have a college student discount on Thursdays which is awesome for us! read more

Very clean store, love their deli!! This store provides good customer service and allows us to choose how we want our deli cut. It is located in a nice subtle shopping center and it is very nice on the inside. It loss as if it was remodeled recently. I think that this store is a good contender for being one of the best supermarkets in town. It still provides that family store feel even with all the very large competing stores. read more

The staff is friendly. Usually a quick in and out. However I have had to return expired chicken. I also had a brand new ricotta that when opened, it was full of mold. I do think they are over priced but I will still shop at Harding's. read more
