I would not recommend this auto shop. I dropped my vehicle off for an assessment because my car was making an unknown noise/sound. I received a call with a diagnostic update on the noise, and they assured me that they had identified the source. So, I instructed them to move forward with their professional recommendations in an effort to rectify the noise. Two days later, I received a call, and I was informed that everything suggested had been fixed, but upon a test drive a slight noise was still noted. So, then I was asked if I could leave my car there until Monday for further assessment. Monday, I received a call indicating that what they had previously fixed was not the actual source of the noise, so several additional repairs were recommended. Long story short, my car is now making a louder noise and appears to be in worse condition than it was before I took it this place. Furthermore, the owner was rather nonchalant regarding my concerns, and his only suggestion was to spend more money to fix additional things. Took, my vehicle to obtain a second opinion and the mechanic was instantly able to identify the source. So, this leads me to believe that initially they lied about the source of the noise, so they could get more money. read more

So, I'm wondering if Hugo and/or Manfred are still at H& M Autohaus. Both Hugo and Manfred helped track down my 1984 911 Cabriolet which I purchased on Valentine's Day 1985 and I still own it to this day. I'll be forever grateful for the two of them for maintaining her for so many years. I can remember being broke down on the side of the road and a client that had seen my car at H&M called H&M and before I knew it, Hugo was at my side on the highway taking care of my car. Talk about going above and beyond. I left Illinois and went to Pebble Beach, taking this girl with me and now she has relocated with me in Florida. As I'm searching for a place to further maintain my car, I couldn't help but wish that H&M were near me. I only hope I can replace the quality of their service here in Florida. Very Bizarre experience I brought my car in to have them examine the engine. They said the engine would need to be replaced. I told them I wasnt interested in replacing the engine and then they offered to buy the car from me. They never told me who was buying the car, just that "somebody was interested and I could bring the title in and we would call it even." I declined and came in to pick up the car. When I came back to pick up the car, they never put the engine back together. They just left rags stuffed where the injectors were, forgot to put the battery back in, and ripped the front seat by putting parts on it. What makes the whole situation so bizarre was that, when I talked to the owner, he seemed genuinely apologetic. I couldn't understand how he was allowing his mechanics to ruin his business. Dropped off newly purchased 1978 antique vehicle on 07-23-2023, they had it until 08-04-2023 billed me $1,690 for alleged repairs, after arriving home, the vehicle ran just as bad as it did when I dropped it off every time I'd try to back into my garage it would stall out, every time I sat still at a red light ... it would stall out..... they said they changed several hoses and gaskets, new shop confirmed that did NOT happen.... they allegedly replaced bulbs in the instrument cluster, that did NOT happen as lights still DON"T WORK....it appears the only thing they actually completed was changed the oil..... New shop I took the car to had it for 3 days, and it runs 100% better than it did before, hasn't stalled once since picking it up from the 2nd shop, backed up the vehicle several times after picking it up from the second shop and it didn't stall one time... stopped at several lights and it didn't stall one time.... if you're wondering why I went to a different shop, its because after them having had the car for what seemed like 3 weeks, and vehicle constantly stalling out, and discovering the instrument cluster lights didn't work... I have absolutely NO faith in them and was not willing to leave it for another 3 weeks.... STEER CLEAR of the facility, the new shop had no openings until 09-05-2023 and the necessary repairs to ensure the car ran properly were completed by 09-07-2023... AND YES I am considering filing a formal complaint to whatever licensing entity I need to so no one else gets robbed like I feel I did!! read more

I brought my Rolls Royce to H&M with a problem, they did a great job fixing my Rolls. Mike and Larry and the crew at H&M are really knowledgeable And very fair with their pricing. I have a guy that I've been taking my Bmw's to for years but lately he's been "too busy to return calls/text" and when I can catch up with him he's always backed up or when I have a warranty issue he puts me last on the appointment list! Ohhh well I think I've found my new german vehicle mechanic! Took my Bmw here to H&M Auto Haus on 1/7/19 Mike was very honest about the repairs I needed done, he even explained to me that a certain job called for a certain amount of book hours but if the job physically didn't take that long then he'd only charge me for the time it actually took to do the job, NOT TO MANY MECHANICS OR DEALERS WHO DO THAT!! The Autohaus was first class from start to finish. I drove my 08' Volkswagen Passat in on Veterans Day for some much needed maintenance, I thought I might need new brakes and possibly some engine work. After they drove, and inspected the vehicle; no brakes were required at all, but I did need to have a long over due tune up, that helped increase the performance I felt I was lacking in overall responsiveness in acceleration. They even gave me a diagnosis of what to look for as the car gets older. Very Happy with the customer service I received from Mike, also the fast and quality work on my vehicle. The reviews I found here were helpful and informative and gave me confidence going into the shop that they were professional, courteous and reliable. Would recommend this location to any European car owner, top notch work and quality Bosch parts. Veteran/Military friendly shop as well with in reason. Thanks again! read more

Went to this shop for the first time after driving by it for years. Brought in my 2009+ Land Rover - Range Rover Sport for service. They replaced my coolant tank and no more errors on the dash. Should have read the filtered reviews before coming here. I was initially drawn to them because they were local and have been at that location for decades. Car was in the shop for a week for an ordinary repair that shouldn't be more than two days at very most. New owner refused to disclose the brands of parts he uses or where he sources them from. H&M tried to push additional work by saying they "had" to replace certain parts. Since I was not physically present to view these "parts" when I was initially informed on the phone, I expressed my wishes to postpone and see a further explanation. H&M turned hostile and threatened to cancel the entire job - all because I kept asking what brand of parts they were using. Later, they discovered the components couldn't be easily removed from the engine (they never needed replacement to begin with as I had maintained), and this operation luckily didn't occur. Sadly, I still had to pay the repair price because they had dome some "work" trying to remove things. Costs here are equal to or exceed a dealership's prices. Had to go back a week later to have H&M repair damage they had done to my exhaust system during the first repair. read more

For over ten years, through two Mercedes, we've been customers. H&M is the tops in terms of customer service and quality work. They're better than any other dealer of mechanic we've used, which is why we travel from Wheaton to Westchester for all of our Mercedes maintenance and repair. They've even inspected and prepped our cars for track days. They do what they say they'll do, on-time, and they stand behind their work. I think the negative reviews here either are writing of another shop, or have issues that go beyond their cars needing work. read more

I have used H&M over the past 15 years for the German cars I have owned. I alway have found them honest and the prices reasonable. My most recent Mercedes a ML63 I took to them for an inspection before I made the purchase and they were very honest about the condition of the vehicle. Mike and Larry have done the maintenance on two Porsches and two Lexus cars and are a delight to work with. They are straight shooters and prices reasonable and their turn around time is very good for most maintenance requirements of cars. Awful awful awful! I brought my Volkswagen there to resolve an engine light issue and mentioned that the turbo was faulty. These jokers had my car for a MONTH! They put on a rebuilt turbo and left off several parts, the wastegate on the turbo unit doesn't function properly resulting in a staggered instead of smooth acceleration, and when I picked up the car, the engine light stayed on. The "mechanic" told me I needed to take the car to Volkswagen and have the computer purged to clear the code. I did just that, and at Volkswagen, their mechanic informed me of the missing parts with the turbo unit, and that the computer didn't need to be purged since the timing was two teeth out of sync! So, bottom line, H$M Moneyhaus charged me over 1600 dollars to fix something that didn't NEED to get fixed, didn't repair what DID need to be repaired, they LIED to me, and they had my car for a month to fix something I could have done ANYWHERE else in no more than a week! I wouldn't take my son's Radio Flyer wagon to these thieves if they were the last garage on the planet! In case you're reading this, H&M employees, you rate ZERO stars! THIS IS A BAD REVIEW FOR YOU!! I HAD to give you one to post this and hopefully warn other potential victims. read more

Left my car for repairs... When i went to pickup it was noted on the paperwork that there is a damage to the vehicle when brought in on the left side.. and there was a little damage on the left by the rear quarter panel.. when i grabbed the keys and went to the car the whole left side starting from the drivers side had dent going to the back.. I went back inside and talked to a guy named Steven who said is the owner of the place ... and said the damage was already on the car you signed the document which said there was a damage on the left side ... Nothing he can do... Horrible service and customer service.. I know what damage was on the car when i took it in... They damaged my car kept it for 4 days and that's pretty much it.. QUOTE from STEVEN the owner " THIS IS NOT MY FIRST RODEO IF I START TAKING CARE OF ALL THE PEOPLE WHO COME IN AND COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DAMAGE WHICH WAS NOT THERE BEFORE I WOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS" In my suggestion he should be out of business anyways for doing such a lousy work.... read more

Our 1998 SLK lost it's cool. This time the major components had to be replaced. Steve is a friend of our neighbor and insisted I have them take a look. H&M were able to get the parts and install them swiftly. While our car was in their care they proactively updated the status. They explained what needed to be replaced and why. This review is for their other location at 4157 N Lincoln Ave in Chicago. I heard about them from my roommate who had to get new breaks a few months ago and priced out a bunch of mechanics in the area and found the fairest price at H&M Autohaus. So I brought my car into them one morning without an appointment, they took it immediately, and fixed my front and back breaks in one day! They are honest and do great work. They won't search for problems with your car they will just fix what needs to be done and do it at a fair price. I highly recommend them! read more

Being a business owner and understanding the "Yelp" dynamic, I realize that disgruntled customers are more likely to post and often due to their life circumstances have nothing better to do and nothing good to say. Being a bit older and having had a lot of experience with auto repair places, I think it is important to find the right shop for your car and your problem. To that extent, the vehicle owner needs to accept some responsibility, if things don't go right. I had visited one other shop before coming here and wasn't comfortable with the initial evaluation. These guys were non-committal and seemed to have a more positive approach. My experience with these guys was that they were honest, deliberate in doing the repair and reasonable in their labor charges. They communicated effectively and seemed to have the experience to do the work I needed done. Some of the negative posters here probably should have gone to the dealer in the first place and just bitten the bullet on the labor costs. I have done that quite often, when I knew the repairs were more involved and required a mechanic who works on the particular make of car day in and day out. Know what questions to ask, do a little bit of research in the auto forums and it will help to make better choices for your needs. read more

Unfortunately, I had a very disappointing experience with them. To make a long story short, they performed work but didn't fix the problem. So at the end of the day, I had a bill and a car with exactly the same problem. I asked them what else they could check in order to fix the problem, and at this point they claimed that they had fixed the problem well enough for the car to be driven, even though the car's operation was still impaired in exactly the same way as before their work. I went around in circles a bit with them trying to point this out and not getting anywhere. I couldn't drive the car normally and ended up having to have it towed back to my house. In addition, when I got the car back there were a series of deep gouges and places the console, armrest, and dashboard were damaged, and the inside of the car was filthy (the driver's side mat actually had an oil stain). Despite the car's age, I'd taken very careful care of it, and it was very disappointing to me that they treated it will such lack of care. As I was leaving, I mentioned the interior damage to them (I wasn't looking for any sort of compensation but I would have liked an apology) and one of the mechanics became extremely hostile. They seemed to have a lot of work and to be rushing jobs through. Customer satisfaction isn't high on their list of priorities, and though they were nice on the phone, once they had my car things went downhill fast. I would avoid this place. read more

Really poor service. They didn't fix the issue, even though they said they had. The car I picked up, expecting to be fixed, was still broken. So I got to pay several hundred dollars for a "repair" that didn't fix anything. They refused to make any sort of restitution or try to actually fix the problem for real when I complained. In addition, their techs were really rude--they were nice at first, but the minute they have your money then customer service goes out the window. Apparently they don't care about repeat customers--or good reviews. I wish I'd taken a look at yelp--including the filtered reviews--before I went there. This is a review of H n M on Lincoln. Brought my car here for an oil change on a Groupon. Ended up being upsold on a service for the transmission. No one likes throwing money at a used car but, ok - she's treated me well. I'm already here. Yes, it did need it and yes, the shop manager and mechanic seemed versed enough to know that it was a common problem and they could hack it. Looked it up. Confirmed. Mierde. They did the trans work, but initially it wasn't sealed properly and oil began to leak. Ok, not the end of the world. We all make mistakes. Called them. Brought the car back the same day. I was kinda surprised they didn't test drive it first but ok. Here are the keys again. Now, while many would be super annoyed about all this, not only did they fix the problem with the oil leak from the newly installed transmission part and gasket, they didn't charge me for the parts or labor on that service (the part and service was easily ($800) as a consolation. WOW. Wasn't expecting that (and yes, you skeptics, I asked for the old parts). Also, I ought to thank them for pointing out an issue with the trans that could have cost me sooo much more in the long run if they hadn't pointed it out then along with replacing a rotting coolant line. So, THANK YOU H & M on Lincoln. In the end, while the experience was time consuming, I have to say that I was satisfied with the fair service I received here. It's a good shop run by decent people. Was driving home from work and suddenly heard a loud rattling noise from one of my rear tires. I pulled over and tried to see what was going on and didn't see anything but clearly something was wrong. I wasn't near home yet so I looked up nearby car repair places and found H&M, just wanted them to take a quick look and make sure I could drive home safely. He dropped what he was doing and immediately checked it out (I was just grateful for that since they were closing soon). Turned out my rear shock had rusted through and was done. He explained I could make it home safely but could possibly cause significant damage to the body in the process. I decided to leave my car there and take a risk with getting price gauged. He had original BMW parts ready to go and had the rear shocks replaced by the next day at 1pm. He originally quoted me $800 but the final cost was only $650. (Maybe he added $150 to the cost to set me up for relief when I heard the final price but that's fine by me. Pretty sure my usual place downtown would have charged $800 and taken several days to get the job done!) This place was quick, they were very nice, and my car is driving great with a 1yr warranty on their work. And the price was good. Happy customer here and would consider going back for future work even though it's a little out of the way for me. Thank you H&M! read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. I have been taking my cars as an alternative to dealers here, unfortunately they robbed people point blank, recently needed to calibrate my suspension in a 2004 range rover, was told that I needed a new air compressor and and a new relay for a total of over $1600.00, did not need either one, dealer calibrated the suspension for $146.00 total. I called the shop to discuss the case with Mike, he gave more of the b.s. that they always use, " the computer gave the readings that those items were at fault", just excuses, stuff that we cannot prove, so they get away with it, bottom line they b.s. good and take your money period, I don't know how a business can survive like this. read more

I owned a 2000 430 clk. Mercedes for 8 yrs. the first couple of time going to a dealer service dept. Wondered why I ever purchased this car. Then I remembered there was a place that fixed import cars near where I use to live in Westchester. Figured I give them a shot. Good thinking, Great service really fair prices. Like half of what you pay at the Mercedes dealer. If there is a way to fix something cheaper they will suggest it. Sold my car about a year ago but could have never got the price I sold it for if not for these guys. I was in the auto business for 26 yrs. a Finance manager so I was pretty familiar with some service dept. tactics. Never worry about this place they are top notch straight shooters. read more
