So I can't say enough about Tony. First I like owner operated companies. Where the owner is in the truck doing the work. Tony is that. So my appointment was to get a bid to replace my system. Never worked right. Had other guys out. Still never worked right. He talked me out of replacing the system. Said he had faith in the Goodman system we had. So he gave us a very fair bid for installing a bigger vent and larger ducting. Also put the filter in the return in the hall. Ok solid plan. Well he goes up there finds too much hose going to the vent and it had a kink. Also the unit in the attic had a leak at the pan so it was cooling the attic. So all he ended up doing was solve those 2 problems and it was like a new ac. Then charges 1/3 of his bid. Most guys would have kept their mouth shut and charged the original bid. Unfortunately he forget the part to hold the filter in the hall. Came back 3 days later and wanted to do it for free. Well I couldn't have that. You're dumb to go anywhere else. Hired Tony to fix our A/C after a shoddy job years back by another company that "replaced" our entire a/c system but it never actually worked and our new pet required reliable a/c. A bit of background. We had central A/C installed by a different company about 7 years ago. All was fine until during a hot spell, the electrostatic filter was repeatedly clicking (much more than usual) and the A/C seemed to be switching off prematurely. We called 3 A/C companies, and even though my husband is 84 and I am very heat-sensitive, they all gave us a 3 day wait for an urgent appointment. We have used H&S in the past to install a mini-split in our kitchen, and they did a great job, but this episode was a problem with our central air-conditioning. We didn't know whether they would be interested in a bigger system, as this is a family-owned business, and the owner does most jobs solo, with an occasional helper. We should have called them first! Heidi answered our call, and after a bit of telephone tag, she arranged for Tony to come out the next day. He assessed our problem quickly, but he needed a new circuit board for our furnace in order to fix the problem. He came back less than 24 hours later to replace it. Following the repair, we had 24 hours of cooling bliss, then the clicking started again, so we turned the A/C off and left a message on a Sunday for Heidi. Early the next morning, she called to arrange for Tony to come back. It turned out that we had a blocked condensation drain. Thirty minutes later, it was solved and everything has run perfectly for over a month now. A couple of afterthoughts. Tony and Heidi did not charge us for the second callout and final fix, even though it took time and they had to use extra equipment and parts. They are very honest and honorable. Also, even though they are a small company, they can take on pretty sizable jobs - our home is 3,000 sq feet, and there was no problem in getting rapid service and a great product. Finally, they are not the cheapest, but neither are they the most expensive. However, they are definitely the most responsive people. The kind of people that you would love to have as your neighbors and friends. We won't hesitate to use H&S again. When we need to switch to a heat pump, Tony and Heidi will be the first people that we call. read more

Quite simply, this is one of the best businesses I've ever worked with, and definitely one of the best in San Diego. I was referred to Tony and his team by my neighbor's mother - I know, very random - but we just happened to be talking about A/C on a miserably hot day. She said H&S just did her house and she highly recommended them. She said they are more of a "word of mouth" company and don't rely on advertising - that caught my attention, because you have to be pretty damn good to pull that off in San Diego. I knew we would move within the near future and wasn't interested in getting A/C in our 80-year-old house in Normal Heights with no duct work for central heat/air, so I didn't call them right away, but as soon as we bought what will probably be our "forever home" in Allied Gardens, I called up Tony. He got back to me quickly, scheduled a consultation appointment quickly. He showed up when he said he would (another uncommon trait with local contractors). He is a No-BS kinda guy - very nice, cool, and professional, but not sales-y at all. He wasn't at the house for more than 15 minutes and figured out the whole plan in that short time, and sent quotes within a couple of days. Our furnace for the forced air heating that was already installed was in what-could-be a great closet on the 2nd floor. He was the only contractor who suggested moving it to the attic, where we had plenty of room, and he could put the coil right next to it, instead of just stacking it on top of the furnace in the closet. He said it would be much quieter and give us more storage space upstairs. So, he quoted me for both proposals - with and without moving the furnace. Since his quote for moving the furnace was similar to other quotes that I got where they did NOT move the furnace, I went with Tony. If I hadn't moved the furnace, his quote would have been about 33% less than the average quote I got from bigger local companies. He couldn't start the project for about 3 weeks - another good sign, because he's obviously busy well into the non-A/C season, but when our day came, Tony and his team showed up on time and got to work. They finished the job in 2 days - the exact time he quoted - they left no trace of a mess behind, not a single speck of drywall, no piles of garbage in my city trash bins. The only difference you could see obviously was the empty furnace closet, a clean hole in the upstairs hallway ceiling for the new air return, the condenser neatly installed on the side of the house, and the beautiful little Nest thermostat that I bought separately, but that he installed for me. By the way, when I told him I wanted one of those fancy WiFi-enabled smart thermostats, he said just to buy it from Home Depot or Amazon and he would install it. He could have easily bought it on his own and marked it up, but he didn't) The system works great - I've had no issues thus far - and, as he promised, it is whisper quiet. When the furnace was fired up in its former location inside the closet, it made the house sound like you were inside an airplane in flight. In summary, Tony is the man. Look no further for your HVAC needs. In fact, I would say don't even bother getting quotes from other companies. read more

With the heat as of late, everyone was booked for several days. I had just about given up when I called H & S. I explained my friends situation to Tony. When I received Tony's (the owner) bid, I knew I found my guy. Unfortunately for him, over several months my requirements kept changing due to work on the house but he stuck in there answering my questions and emails. I don't ever write reviews but had to in this case. Tony the owner of H&S was referred by a family friend. Tony came to my home and give me quote to remove and replace my old furnace, ducts, registers and install a new air conditioning unit. Not only was his price the best it wasn't even worth getting a second quote. Tony completed the job in the time originally quoted but finished early, cleaned up and explained operating my new system and maintenance. Tony is awesome. We wanted to replace our heater and get one with heater/ac in our home. Wham bam, thanks the maam - this guy and his team rock it out and get it installed, fully running in less than 7 hours. Get this - they VACUUMED the dust up from where they had to install a new vent. And, hold on now - They BROUGHT EVERYTHING they needed to install it right without having to run out to the hardware store. Heater is super quiet - ac blows cold - Tony got it sized correctly for our house (previous unit was undersized) - fixed a crimped up line. And the kicker - he was 20% less than ASI. We recently purchased a condo that did not have forced heat or air. When I called the large HVAC company that we used for service at our house and asked for an estimate for putting in a new system I couldn't believe the amount of money they wanted to do the job! I almost gave up hope of being able to make it through a Santee summer, but then thought to ask the man who did our condo inspection if he had anyone he would recommend. He said to call Tony from H&S Heating & Air Conditioning. When I met Tony at the condo the next day I knew I had a winner. He was professional and very knowledgeable about how the job should be done, what size the units should be, the best place for the vents... I could tell that he had been doing this for a long time, cared about pleasing his clients and really enjoyed figuring out the best design and components to use. The next day I received my quote which was much more in line with my budget and we went ahead with the project. Tony and his guys were prompt, professional and got the job done much sooner than I thought possible. I was amazed when I walked in and saw the finished product. The vents and the air return not only looked good but their placement provides such good air flow that the whole place cools down in seconds when the air is turned on. The company that ran the test required by the City for our permit commented on how efficient the system was. And did I mention that there wasn't a bit of construction debris left behind?
