I've shopped at this HEB since its opening and have always enjoyed it - as much as one can enjoy grocery shopping. My compliant is not so much the store but the fact that they now allow the shopping service Instacart to operate there. These shoppers are always shopping under a deadline and therefore are head down, nose in their cell phone, weaving in & out of other shoppers & oblivious to everyone else around them. They've taken over this store!! Sunday evenings are the worst. This evening I had an Instacart shopper in front of me & one behind at check out - the one in front had no grocery bags with her so had to go find some. The guy behind me noticed I was frustrated & said I should hire them to do my shopping so I didn't have to deal with it all. RUDE. Its as if their time & schedule is way more import than anyone else's. HEB 'Powers that be' please give us back our store! Set some guidelines! Reserve 2 checkout lanes for them only! I have to admit, I'm not a big fan of HEB in general coming from another part of the country where the choices of grocery stores is huge. We have HEB, (dismally few Randall's), and the big box stores basically (not counting Whole Foods and Sprouts as they are in a category of their own) which is hugely disappointing and the selection is pretty poor. However, this review is really about the Sushi. Most HEB stores I've seen carry the Sushi Ya selections, but not all stores have the actual sushi chef making the sushi. I love this particular location because I can go in and have a special request made in minutes. I know it's fresh and it's delicious. I have to thank the guy at the Parmer location for offering me a sample one day - I'm hooked. Quick, convenient and yummy sushi...without the attitude...Love it! read more

I shopped at H.E.B. during a recent visit to family in Austin. It was my first time shopping at this chain. I live in FL and we have some big grocery stores, but this was Texas-sized! ;-) I found prices good and selection excellent. I enjoyed wandering in the ethnic food aisles and bought some jars of Texas salsas to take home. If I lived in the area I definitely be shopping at this store frequently. read more

Of all the HEB's I have been to in an around Austin, this is my favorite. It is still HEB though, so the max it can get is 3 stars. This place is never crowded (disclaimer: I only go during my lunch break on weekdays). It actually has an organic food section. It is small, but has the things I like (couscous, Amy's products, etc.) The beer section rivals that of the one at the HEB near campus. Plenty of microbrews to choose from. I have only once asked for help in finding something, and instead of somebody pointing me in the right direction, the helpful employee introduced himself, shook my hand (twice), and walked me all the way to the product I was looking for. The coffee selection at this place is crap. If you don't like Starbuck's or the store brand, you must go somewhere else. The sushi is tasty (for a grocery store) and the sushi-makers are always friendly. The pharmacy does not have crutches to rent. Go HEB! kiiiiii-ya! read more

Awesome selection, great parking, horrible cashier setup. I can get in and out of here in 20 minutes what takes me 40 minutes in central Austin. Everything goes super smooth until the last bit - during rush hour with the cashiers - where everyone is crammed up against the front and they're shoved out in the aisles and everyone is impatient with the speed/idiocy of their fellow customers. Until that point, it is the Platonic HEB trip - things are in stock, produce is fresh, the aisles are wide enough to navigate, and I have two Redboxes to choose from. SO CLOSE. read more

Everyone seems to think their local HEB is the best. Little do they know that MINE is the best. Fresh tortillas and sushi made in the store. Decent cheese section, prepackaged deli products. Have you tried HEB's pimento cheese? Seriously. Try it. The deli is fast, the butchers are helpful. The "hippie" section, as I like to call it, is pretty good - some decent bulk foods available. The beer and wine guy is always happy to hear my feedback and will order your special requests if he can. This is our daily grocery store where we can also exchange bottles for our water cooler and get salt for the water softener. For those who aren't familiar with the chain HEB is a large Texas-based grocery store. They also have a higher-end brand called Central Market. A lot of the Central Market prepackaged food - frozen food, herbs, coffee, etc. is actually sold in the HEB stores too. I find their prices are generally comparable to cheaper stores like Ralph's but the quality is much better at HEB. This HEB is in a strip mall next to a Starbucks, Twin Liquors, Gamestop, Pita Stop, Pho place, an amazing sushi restaurant, a nail place, and a dentist. If I really plan ahead I can get a lot done in one drive. Five to seven PM can be pretty crowded in the store and the parking lot gets CHOKED. Not like there are fistfights or something, it just takes a bit of extra patience. read more

No hiding the facts... I do LOVE my H.E.B.'s. I used to live near this one, so I know it well. The workers and management always do their best to assist you. Need something that they don't have? See the customer service center and request that it gets ordered... they do reply and respond. I can write a review all day that would seem like I am the corporate PR person; I am not. I used to despise this HEB, but on my recent trip- it's gotten much better. Maybe it's due to the competition of the larger one off 130 opening soon, Or maybe they started listening to the reviews. Never the less. I am happy to announce they have fresh carrots - sans pre packaging. The produce section is on the up and up. Well done on the freshness. The staff was very friendly on my recent visit. There were very few nut milk options. In fact laughable. Most of the varieties they carried had sugar as the second ingredient. Maybe census for this area is into these. ME i prefer sugar free almond, coconut, cashew, soy etc...alternatives. Because hey i;m not a calf so why drink a cows milk. nasty! Any who.. i'll likely stop back in before the super mega one pens that i'll be able to walk to- if not just to see their improvements. Well done in the produce section. read more

I've been in this HEB several times over the years. There's some consistencies about this particular location that I've concluded. First, the store chooses to locate grocery carts not only outside but to the far front,outside corners of the building. When you walk in you immediately see there's no carts. As you look around and you'll notice three to five jovial employees talking amongst themselves who know customers are looking for carts. They assume you already understand the game: customers are to go the outside corners to get their own carts. I understand there's limited space for carts in the front but why not relocate the picnic and mulch items to the corners and bring the carts front and center. If nothing else, how about getting these idle employees front and center with carts and smiles. Walmart has been doing this for decades even with plenty of cart space. Secondly many of the checkers shy away from handling bags. They really welcome customers willing to handle their own bags. I had four cases of bottled water, placed each on the belt for scanning at the checkers request then reloaded them. No not a big deal except three employees stood idle glancing around as if they didn't see the cargo. read more

I don't shop at this HEB too often but I am struck every time by how unhappy the checkers are. They almost never say hello or smile l in spite of my attempts to engage them. I will stick to 620 and University where the Employees seem to be happier. read more

This has been my go-to grocery since this opened. I always trust their merchandise to be fresh and updated. However, I purchased "Healthy Living" product 2 days ago. Little did I know, just when I took 1 dosage of that fish oil bottle- I checked the expiration date and it said "October 2017" WHY???? I went back to get an exchange, went to the same shelf. I saw another bottle that had an identical expiration date October 2017. Why would you put an expired for (2 years) on a shelf? Not one, but 2! I had to return the merchandise I purchased. So you need to drop in for a few items to restock midweek. I can tell you how this will go... It'll take you about ten minutes to park on a bad day. There will be one person with his blinker on waiting for another customer to load up kids and groceries then pull out of the parking space slower than molasses. By the time the jerk parks in the now-open spot, he's got five cars waiting behind him. Horribly designed lot. You park on the produce side so you can make your usual circle through the store. No baskets. Ever. You walk to the checkout area and peek at each register until a basket is found. You walk back to produce. Produce has a pretty good selection - I think it's the best in the area. Yay! You're feeling better. This might be a good experience. You move on. Hmph... They don't have your low sodium lunch meat. Or they're out of HEB sandwich thins. Maybe today they're out of six packs of eggs (what?) or 2% organic milk. No regular Philadelphia cream cheese. Sparkling water? No luck. The worst is when they have stuff but it's dated for tomorrow. Grr. I'm cooking for one so you know something's going to get wasted if I don't watch the dates. You commit to coming the next day to pick up what was missing. No luck. Three could be the charm (or you just see if they have what you want at the 79 location.) So how was your experience? I'm at this grocery store at least every other day. I love my fresh fruits and veggies so I have to shop that often. Most days I only come for the produce, so it irks me to have to go on a detour just to find a basket. The egg/milk/bread thing all happened at the same time once. That was a bad week for me and ole HEB. The pharmacy is convenient and they have great hours. Customer service in general is usually pretty good. They never have enough registers but I'm sure that's not a shocker to anyone. Come for the produce, just don't expect the rest of the inventory to be consistent. This is definitely not always going to be a one stop shop. read more

I love HEB, but this location has one employee who works overnight that really pissed me off while I was shopping. I found out after asking around that she was the LEAD! Another customer with children was shopping somewhere around 11 pm with her kids. The lead loudly starts saying horrible things about this mom because she has her kids out late. She got louder about it and even got other employees involved. She doesn't know that mom's circumstances. Perhaps she's a single mom, who works all day and this is the only chance she has to grab groceries. I felt really bad for that poor mother who had to hear that! I have to shop late at night, and this isn't the first time I've heard this lead do something like this. Everything I've ever heard come out of her mouth has been a complaint, gossip or to talk down about someone. I try to stay off any aisle she is working, but that's hard to do when you need things on her isle. After this, however. I think I'll find another HEB to shop at. read more

I didn't realize there was much difference from HEB to HEB but this location has what appeared to be a higher end cheese aisle, fresher sushi and produce that was well tended to. My last HEB review had several friends write on my facebook about how much they enjoy the chain and the help of having groceries brought to their car. All in all I'd say that's good advertising for a company in Texas that so many love. HEB, HEB plus...I just go to the one closest to the house. read more

My favorite grocery store. Love the fresh sushi bar and produce. My only complaint would be understaffed for check out. Had a couple issues in the past with forgotten items and the manager made it right. Florist dept was awesome recently and the lady added some extra stuff for a sick friend so that was nice. I love HEB period, never been a fan of the randles brand or pricing. I do shop at Whole Foods but I don't do it consistently due to the price as well. Plus it's a little out of the way. The only reason this location isn't getting a 5 Star is because it's always packed and unless your are going extremely early or really late at night, It's a pain They have too many 15 items or less aisles open and not enough of the normal aisles (this is why you have 4 self checkout that are also 15 or less). read more

I never thought I would write a review for a grocery store since they are all pretty much the same, but the guy in the seafood market WOWed me. He was so knowledgeable, gave me tips and suggestions. Very friendly, asked permission to offer his knowledge. It was amazing, I've never had customer service like that in a grocery store, so much so I am going to go back there today and offer him a Job. I'm going to say this about five times in my reviews of places in Texas. BIG!!! Everything really is big. Even my hair got bigger when I tried to straighten it. This store is huge, but it isn't very nice. There are tons of the same items, but the selection isn't great. I found most of what I needed, but it wasn't easy to find vegetarian items. read more

This review is only for the deli... Specifically the cheese at the deli. They have a large selection of cheeses to choose from that have some spice to them and I appreciate that. Love the 3 pepper Boars Head. There's also havarti with peppers or jalapeño muenster cheese. And other flavors have been had here as well such as hatch or pesto cheeses. Oh, I like the HEB mozzarella more than the BH. Cheese is always packaged well (not all shingled together, 2 per sheet as it should be!) and reasonably priced. Wait times haven't been too bad during peak times and they will let ya sample anything if you ask. read more

I went to this HEB on Greenlawn today during my lunch hour. Picked up 20-25 items. Not even close to a full cart, but too many items for the 10-15 aisle. When I got to check out, the few full service lanes open were stacked 3-4 people deep. So I went to self-checkout. I had scanned 5-6 of my items, on a roll. An H-E-B employee walks up to me and tells me I have more than 10 items so I can't check out there. I'm about a fourth of the way through checking out and she tells me I have more than 10 items, so I can't check out in self-serve. This had never happened before and I had done more than 10 items in self-checkout at this very store several times before, so I was totally confused. I told her I was on my lunch hour and showed her the few open full-service lanes were piled up. Her answer was she knew that but I couldn't purchase in the self-serve area. No solution offer, just rudeness. So there I was, some groceries scanned, some in the cart, being told I couldn't check out there. I just picked up my purse and left. Seems the HEB employee would have realized that letting me finish my purchase meant revenue to HEB rather than running me off mid-transaction leaving the scanner in progress needing to be cleared before another customer could use it, plus having to unbag the groceries I had already scanned, and then get someone to come get the cart and groceries to restock. Epically bad customer service as well as a very poor representative of HEB. I will never return to this store. Happy ending to the story though. I ran over to Sprouts, picked up my groceries there without incident, and got back to work on time!!!! read more

I live right around the corner from this HEB and I would much rather drive all the way across town to do my grocery shopping. Every single time I come here, no matter what time of day, the store always seems to be cluttered with boxes and crates that are being unpacked. While I'm glad that they're constantly restocking, it makes maneuvering a cart around awkward...and half the time the shipping cartons are right in front of the product I'm trying to get! Every time we've purchased lunchmeat at the deli counter, they've gotten something wrong. One week we purchased hard salami and they coded it for something that was $3.00 more a pound! Another week we purchased roast beef and got the stringiest, grisliest roast beef I've ever had. Most of the employees I've encountered here seem less than thrilled to be working. One employee was pushing a cart of product around cursing. Another employee was more interested in a personal conversation with someone else than bagging our groceries. We have given this HEB several chances and each time they get it wrong. Unless I have to run in for something last-minute like milk or eggs, I'd rather spend the time, money and gas to go to a different HEB. read more

Yes, yes, yes. I've been going to this HEB since 2006. We recently moved and the HEB plus on 79 is now the closest one but we still drive the extra few to go to this store. They always have what I need and there's also a my fit foods kiosk there and I love buying those meals for my lunches. read more
