    Ethical H2O - What's in your water??

We recently moved into one of the neighborhoods adjacent to Fairbanks Ranch. Our new home didn't…read morehave any whole-house water filtration, and a friend from the Rancho Santa Fe area highly recommended Ethical H2O's Inspire whole-house filtration and salt-free conditioning system. Looking back, we're really glad we took their recommendation. OUR WATER: Our home is served by the Olivenhain Municipal Water District, which is known for having very hard water. Scale buildup is a challenge. OUR SALES EXPERIENCE: What impressed us first was the sales experience. Ariane took the time to educate us on the differences between water conditioners and water softeners, answer all of our questions, and explain the different product options without any pressure. She walked us through the pros and cons of each system and emphasized that the best choice depended on what we wanted from our water treatment system. We never felt like we were being sold something--just educated so we could make the best decision for our home. WHY WE CHOSE INSPIRE: We chose the Inspire system because we wanted a salt-free, low-maintenance solution. One of the biggest selling points for us was its expected service life. Ethical H2O explained that the filter media has an expected lifespan of about seven years before it needs to be changed out. Because we installed the system through them, Ethical H2O will also reach out when the time comes to test the filter media and determine whether it needs replacement. We especially appreciated that the system uses well-established, widely respected components, including a Clack control valve and Pentair tank. That gave us confidence that the equipment should last and that replacement parts and service would be readily available if they were ever needed. At our previous home, we had a citrus-based NuvoH2O Manor Trio system. While it worked reasonably well, it required replacing the cartridges every 6 to 9 months. We wanted a solution that required much less ongoing maintenance. OUR RESULTS: The system has been fantastic. The biggest surprise has been our electric kettle. Before the installation, we would start seeing scale buildup within a day or two, even when using tap water filtered through a PUR pitcher. It's now been over a week of using the kettle multiple times a day, and there's barely a hint of scale. Based on our experience so far, it's performing even better than the NuvoH2O system we had in our previous home. It's also reassuring to know that we're not only reducing scale but also filtering out chlorine and other contaminants throughout the house. We also appreciate having filtered water available from every faucet in the house instead of only from a single drinking-water tap, so we didn't need to do anything special for the refrigerator water line. OUR INSTALLATION EXPERIENCE: The installation was smooth, professional, and very clean. Ethical H2O works with a recommended plumber, but they also welcome customers to use their own plumber if they prefer. We decided to go with their recommendation, Chris Erbs Plumbing, and we're glad we did. The installation included connecting the Inspire system to our home's main water line and routing the regeneration drain to our existing sewer cleanout. Everything looked neat and professionally done. The plumbers completed the system's initial regeneration cycle, then took the time to walk us through its operation and maintenance before they left. Since they were already going to be on site, we also arranged directly with Chris Erbs Plumbing ahead of time to replace our water heater during the same visit. Being able to complete both projects in a single appointment made the entire process even more convenient. OUR RECOMMENDATION: If you're considering a whole-house water filtration system, I'd definitely recommend talking with Ethical H2O. Ariane made the selection process easy by helping us understand our options instead of trying to sell us the most expensive system, and Chris Erbs Plumbing did an outstanding job with the installation. The combination of knowledgeable guidance, quality equipment, and professional installation made the entire experience well worth the investment.

First my scheduled delivery was missed with no follow up, then it was rescheduled causing us to be left with no water. The next delivery I was given my "2 FREE" annual cases per the Costco promotion we signed over 10 years ago only to be charged for them on my next billing cycle. The delivery driver even stated they were my "gift " at no charge. It took almost 6 months and multiple calls before it ever got corrected. The next issue was they started only replacing what was on the delivery order vs the amount of gallons they picked up. After a few phone calls I found out it was a change once the merge happened. Then my next delivery had 12, 5 gallon jugs because they replaced what I set out instead of what was on the delivery order! Now here we are again 1 year later and I was left my annual free case of water, which was not in my delivery order, and come to find out I was charged for it again. This merge was the worst thing to happen to what used to be an amazing service through Costco. Costco should really consider ending this collab because the service given is not up to par with Costco standards!

Sparkletts Water - Water from refurbished cooler

I had been a customer of Sierra Springs for years before the company (like pretty much every other…read morewater brand) was bought out by Primo. Before this buyout, I was very happy with my service. My delivery driver used to do a one-for-one exchange. In other words, if I had two empties, he would leave two full bottles, even though my plan officially called for four bottles on hand. To me, this is just common sense. When Primo took over, my water brand changed to Sparkletts, but my four-bottle "on-hand" agreement remained in effect. The problem is that if we have only consumed two of those four bottles, leaving two empties when delivery arrives, they still leave four new bottles. As a result, I now have six bottles on hand. On this last delivery date, I left a note on one of the empty bottles, but the driver ignored it and left four anyway. There have been other times when they were late on delivery, so we didn't have any water on hand. Then came the bill. We were charged for a case of 1-liter bottles that we didn't even order. When I called to see if we could arrange a one-for-one delivery plan, I found out that Primo outsources its customer service. You are usually talking to someone in India, and one time I'm pretty sure the service representative was in Somalia. It is almost impossible to convey your needs and communicate effectively with them. Long story short, they are not willing to adjust the plan to just replace the empty bottles. Like I said, almost every brand now is owned by Primo--same water, different bottles. I'm going to take a look at Culligan instead.

David, the delivery person, is fantastic--friendly, reliable, and always goes above and beyond by bringing the bottles inside. However, the frustration with their water coolers has pushed me to the brink. I'm now on my third water cooler, which I've been renting for years. Honestly, with the ongoing rental charges, I probably could've bought several coolers by now. Recently, I requested a replacement for my malfunctioning cooler, only to have yet another refurbished unit delivered. And as usual, it was in poor condition. White particles came out of the water, and I had to waste almost a gallon of water just to flush the system. When I reached out to request a brand new cooler, I was told none were in stock and they only had refurbished coolers. This has been a recurring issue, and I've had enough. While their water is great, their rental coolers are absolutely subpar, and their inability to resolve the issue is beyond frustrating. If you like Sparkletts water, fine--but I strongly recommend buying your own cooler elsewhere. Their rental coolers are simply not worth the hassle.

However, I'm very glad I did. The reason for my five-star review really comes down to one person: my delivery driver, Myles. He has completely transformed the experience and made it better than I ever expected. The level of service he provides is exceptional. Myles is incredibly proactive and thoughtful. He personally texts to check in and see how many bottles we need, keeps me updated on his delivery days, and consistently goes above and beyond to make sure everything runs smoothly. It genuinely feels like a friend stopping by to deliver water rather than just another delivery service. Great customer service like this is rare, and Myles deserves a lot of credit for it. Because of him, I'm happy to continue using Culligan. Five stars all day for Myles and Culligan.

I was never called back to have it reinstalled. The tank that was installed did not produce soft water. After two weeks, someone came out to switch out the tanks and reinstall my carbon filter. The technician told me that the tank would not give me soft water, that I needed a salt system. I had called my sales person twice with no return call. I finally said that if I did not get soft water, I would switch to a different company. The sales person finally called me back. I feel he put in minimal effort to resolve my problem. He did not follow up with the two things that he said he would. If I had to do it all over again I would go with the company that I had previously used for years, with zero issues. Thankfully, I finally have soft water. And the company is supposed to credit me for the two weeks I was without.
