My regular mechanic could not solve a Sensor problem that kept making the "Check Engine" light pop up on my 2009 Honda CRV, but here at HAAS, they fixed the problem here. When the owner and family were on vacation they were able to service the car quickly despite saying they could get to it until the next week. While we haven't taken either or our Acura's here due to the fact that we live way out in the burbs- I'm writing this review on account of my boss (a non-yelper) who for the past five years since I've been working for him, has been persistently trying to get my wife and I to bring our cars here for service. I believe he's been regularly getting his 2nd gen. Acura MDX S.U.V. serviced here for the past decade- mind you, this gentleman is extremely successful vocationally but at the same time is surprisingly very private, unassuming, and humble in person (works in IT, lives in downtown Chicago, owns several prominent patents in E-commerce that's pays him an insane residual income on top of the already hefty revenue from his own business)- in summary he can pretty much afford any car on the planet (no joke), yet he continues to drive his aging 2007/2008 MDX 'all on the account of HAAS!!'- as he attests to having 'complete faith/trust in the owner Bob' in addressing various services needs and in Bob and his staffs' "exceptional competency, sincerity, fairness, and thoroughness in work being completed.".... I'm really quite curious and am very much looking forward myself to eventually taking my own Acura here for maintenance (thanks in large part to my boss- who can't seem to stop talking good things about this place! After a recent visit to a centrally located Honda dealership, where they attempted to bend me over the counter for $700+ large for an oil, transmission, and brake fluid change for my 2017 Accord, I knew there was no chance in hell I'd be back, despite the mailers, incessant phone calls and voicemails, entreating me to patronize their establishment. Thank God I found Haas! I called on a Friday and was able to get an appointment for the following Tuesday with minimal scheduling issues. Once I arrived, I was greeted by Rick, who recapped what services would be performed, their costs (hundreds of dollars cheaper than the aforementioned), and the timeframe involved (1hr, 10mins). I decided to wait in their waiting room while my car was serviced, and took advantage of the free WiFi to get some work done. I found it adequate for the amount of time I spent there, which was even shorter than the initial time estimate. Paying cash, I received a 5% discount and, with a handshake and a nod, I was handed my keys and was on my way. My vehicle runs as new as the day I purchased it, and the substantial costs savings means I'll be back for additional services at Haas as they arise. Super professional. Super thoughtful! And great prices! I have come to Haas in the past with my 2013 Acura RDX. And had great service then. When I updated to a 2017 Acura RDX (what can I say I like the RDX), I had a service warranty for a few years. And so I recently came back to Haas now that I do not have that warranty anymore. My car needed a B123 service. Dealer quoted me $600. Haas quoted me approx $300. And of course the light turned on a week before a planned road trip. The soonest they could get me in was the following week. Which I accepted but asked if they could call me if anything earlier opened up. About a day or two later Sarah called and said a spot opened up that day. She remembered! What great customer service!!!! So of course I accepted and grabbed my things and made my way to the city. Check in was quick and easy. Went upstairs to the waiting room where the A/C is blasting cool air. And worked in the waiting room while my car was getting its regular maintenance. I ended up paying cash so you get a 5% discount. Even better, my CC would have only given me 1% back. Plus I love supporting small businesses. By the time I finished my last call, my car was done! I've been bringing my 2013 RDX here for regular preventive maintenance the last 3 years and I'm always impressed with their workmanship and honesty. The B1 service light turned on a week or so ago and two weeks ago I brought my car to the Acura dealership to address a safety recall. While I was at the Acura dealership, they informed me that my battery needed to be replaced. It seemed odd since I didn't notice any issues with starting my car. The dealership offered to install a new battery for ~$170. I declined. I made an appointment with HAAS for B1 service and a battery replacement. I was given a quote upon dropping my car off this morning. During the day, Rick called me to tell me the front brake pads needed to be replaced as I was about 200 miles away from metal meeting metal. No additional labor costs, just the additional cost for the brake pads. I authorized the repair and picked up my car that evening. When I got the invoice I was pleasantly surprised that the invoice was $75 less than what I was quoted in the morning! They tested my battery twice and it's still got a good charge. We'll reinspect the battery in early fall, but for now there's no need for a new battery. Bottom line: they fix what needs to get fixed and they don't try to sell you service you don't need. read more

I've had HAAS do oil changes, timing belt/water pump replacement, work on the car's suspension, and other general work. What stands out with HAAS is that they're honest, direct, and absolutely knowledgeable. They're fast, too! I'd been taking my Hondas to dealerships for several years, but my experience with HAAS has me sincerely impressed with their knowledge of all things Honda/Acura, and I can't imagine ever going back to a dealer, even if costs were the same. As far as I can see, you can't make a wrong move with HAAS. Bring your Honda/Acura here, and you'll sleep like a baby forever. DO NOT GO HERE!!!! I'm convinced their workers/family write good reviews on them just to get people to go there. I took my car in for a few simple repairs (unrelated to the braking system), and they told me I needed $500 worth of brake repairs. Fine. It's an old car, fix them. My car hasn't driven the same since then. The brakes lock, jam, and shake the car. I took it in again a few weeks later to see what was wrong. They told me the car was just fine and it was just the ice and cold. Two days later, the brakes lock down on the car and will not release. I had to get it towed. Still waiting to see what the diagnosis is. Needless to say I didn't tow it to Haas. Absolute waste of my money and I will tell every car owner I know to avoid this dump. read more

I love my Honda, but she is such a finicky little hussy! I swear, no matter where I took her for her maintenance, there would always be something out of whack afterwards. I have a 2000 Civic (actually bought in 99) so we're talking about a 12 year old car, but due to the El, my baby only has 50k miles on her. Anyways, I had an issue with the brakes. My neighbors with an early 90s Honda hipped me to Haas, and they are really pretty close to me. I took my car in, and they totally fixed the problem; no more knocking noise, and gave her an oil change. I also found a discount available on their website (worth a check, but it seems like it's only up 2x a year). Here's the thing - this was the first time I've ever had the car behave BETTER than when I went in, and with no new issues arising. These guys know what they are doing. Haas Auto repair did a horrible job with my Acura. I brought it in for the Timing Belt change. After they changed the Timing Belt, my car makes a lot of noise now. And they told me I need to change the Power Steering Pump and other components, that will cost me about another $1K. My car was running fine before the Timing Belt change. I asked them why? The mechanic told me they changed the Steering Belt but without asking me. Because when I brought in the car, they only mentioned they will change timing belt, water pump, and may be the driving belt, but not the steering belt. They screwed up my car badly and I cant' drive it now because it makes a lot of noises. A very-unhappy customer. read more

I had to get a transmission replaced on my Acura TL. There are no Acura dealerships here in Chicago, and I needed someone I could trust. Heard about them a couple years ago through a friend who drives a Honda Accord (basically same car). My trans was out of warranty, so it did end up costing me $4k when all was said and done (they also fixed a control arm in the suspension that was going bad for $300, btw Car-X did my other one couple months before for $330), but the Acura dealer in the suburbs actually quoted me almost $5000 for the transmission work alone over the phone... Bob at HAAS were sympathetic to my situation and were very kind and honest letting me know I had the option to take my car elsewhere, or to get other quotes from service shops while my car was in their lot. *I only gave them 4/5 stars because at first he said my car would be done in a week, but then he called back later that same day I dropped it off stating that the plant in CA had to build me a new trans from scratch because they didn't have any in stock to ship immediately. Now it was looking like it'd be there for almost 2 weeks. Not HAAS' fault or Bob's, but I had to have take my rental car out for almost another full week. More of an inconvenience than anything else, but again, not HAAS' fault. Bob was always around during their work hours to answer my questions about the car, as I called them a couple times while it was in the shop for 12 days (waiting for the new trans to be built from scratch in CA and then shipped via freight to Chicago). He also took his time with me on the phone and was very patient with my questions. I didn't feel like he was trying to shake me off the line or treat me like an idiot, which a lot of mechanics sometimes do when you start asking technical questions. Very nice, knowledgeable guy, and he contacted me frequently as well to let me know the updates. They even got the transmission finished a couple days before they said they would. I figured while it was in the shop, I'd have them replace a few bulbs - one being in the clock on my dashboard. Little did I know the entire dash has to come out in order to get to the little bulb, but the guys at HAAS replaced it for no labor charge, just the price of the bulb which was pocket change compared to my major repair costs. I'd use HAAS again because I love my Acura, but hopefully I won't have to go there anytime soon because all car repairs can be very expensive no matter who you take it to. Definitely not their fault it costed so much. I also got a detailed receipt that was explained to me in person when I picked up my car. It had a breakdown of every little thing they charged me on. I trust these guys, most definitely. read more

Is it weird to say I love these guys? I've been bring my 2000 Honda Civic here for over a decade. I know nothing about cars and I often have to describe what's wrong by making car noises, but the mechanics here seem to know exactly what is wrong. They are honest about what I need to do and what can probably wait. On more than one occasion, it has been something minor where they could have overcharged me but didn't. The last time I brought my car in the guy at the front desk (I forgot his name), knew what was wrong because he's been in the business of repairing Hondas for so long. I had two bizarre breakdowns on a newer accord this year. Was towed in, serviced and repaired within 24 hours both times. They can make mistakes like any repair shop, but that is rare and they will fix it immediately. I had two other Hondas which I serviced here that both were in perfect condition with over 150k miles when sold due to their service. If you haven't worked out in 10 years and you stub your toe, don't blame it on the running shoes. read more

Every time I have been to Haas, they've done a great job. I've taken two Hondas to them in the last 3 years. They only take Hondas and Acuras and always use genuine parts (just like a dealership repair shop does, only Haas is mom and pop and cheaper). This might cause them to be a little pricier than places that use generic after-market parts, but it's worth it to me. When I call for an appointment, they always get me in the next day and usually call by the middle of the next day and tell me the diagnosis. If there's nothing major wrong, they can usually have it done that day. And for us 9-5ers, they have a key drop off box and you can pick it up after they close. FYI- they aren't open on weekends. The receptionist is very nice and Fred, the mechanic, always calls to tell me what's wrong. He's very patient and honestly answers all my questions- even ones like, "Well, do I really need a new oil pan or should I just watch the slow leak and put an extra quart in every once in a while?" His answer: it's not a big enough problem to replace the whole pan. A.K.A. voluntarily saving me money. This happened on another occasion when I asked about my tailpipe rattling. He could have easily said, "Yep, you need to replace it. That'll be $300." But instead, he told me there was no need to- it was rattling because it was an after-market pipe that was put on by someone who owned the car before. Not dangerous, just not as snug as a Honda genuine part would be. I haven't met many mechanics whose main goal wasn't to squeeze every $ out of you. I had pronounced Mystique (my Blue 03 Honda Civic) with only months to live, needing some repairs to just get us through this winter before I stumbled upon Haas. Something was screeching in what I thought was my rear brakes everytime I tapped them, but would fade away as I drove a bit more, and come back on tighter turns. Went to some homegrown mechanic who was the recommendation of a buddy, but low and behold, someone working out of their garage wasn't the best! The obvious stuff is the stuff I miss somehow...but he was working primarily on my brakes. Rotors, pads, CV joint, whole front suspension at one point, but the sound wouldn't stop. Enter Haas hooking me with an appointment that was realistic, not asking me to drop off my car on a Friday and pick it up on Tuesday (when they had room is what I mean), and replacing my sway bar links and I'm convinced a little extra. Just bought an 05' Acura RSX-S and brought it here to fix a few of the problems that came with the car... The lights in the dash were dead and one of the tail lights was retaining water... (Not the biggest problems but had to make my new baby as perfect as I can)... Great service, at a great price. I started going to Haas about 6 years ago, I found them on line when I wanted to get some major service done on my then 13 year old Honda Civic. They replaced the timing belt, water pump, plugs, distributor, fan belts, trans fluid, and coolant. Their price was much less than some of the chain repair shops I got an estimate from and am I glad I went there! They do ALL my work now. I used to get my oil changed by a buddy of mine that worked at a chain shop. He was fine, but his guys were sloppy I think and during one of my oil changes cross threaded the drain plug causing my oil to leak, which turned out to be a good thing because I also had them rotate my tires and they totally missed how my CVS boots had split wide open and the joints were getting ready to go. I took the car back to Haas to get the drain plug fixed, they saw the boots, and I had them fix it. I've had them replace the car's radiator, axles, brakes, alternator, and probably a few other things I can't remember. I bought that car used about 10 years ago, and it still runs great today, mostly due to the excellent service I get from Haas. What I really like is how they tell me what I need to do now, what I should do later, and what I don't really need to do -like when my AC went they said it would probably cost too much to fix. They also tell me when I should get things done elsewhere. For example when my car needed a new muffler, they said to go to a cheap shop to get it done because, let's face it, I've got an old car. Who knows how long it will last. I don't need a muffler with a 10 year warranty like the kind they'd install. They also had me go elsewhere to get a wheel alignment done when I needed one, but they gave me a great recommendation. Bob and Fred are really great, and I trust and recommend Haas, Inc. When the time finally comes for my sweet ride to head off into the sunset, I'll have to think long and hard about NOT buying another Honda just because of the great service I've gotten at Haas. read more

I did the oil change already so they gave me a solid quote and appt with approx fix time. All went exactly as discussed with no sudden "extra" charges or attempted upsales; I hate that. The guys know me by name and I actually enjoy going there when the car is due for oil change (way more affordable than the box shop place that tries to sell you unneeded items). I took it in for an oil change and asked them to check my brakes, knowing that they were ok but just wanted to see what they would say. I was told that I had about 13k miles left and was also told what would need to be done at that time. So I was happy with that.
