Excellent customer service! Greg is great! Came in to have my brakes changed, he walked around the car and did a visual inspection and pointed things out. We took a short drive so he could get a better idea of my car complaint. Was texted photos of the issue - rusty rotors, then given a quote with full explanation of the services needed. Fair pricing - they changed all rotors and brakes for around what a larger chain quoted me for just the brake pad change. No icky or suspicious feelings dealing with this shop - they're honest and didn't try to upsell (which is great cos my car has lots of problems lol). read more

I've lived in Chicago for 18 years, and I've always found it so frustrating working with auto shops. I come from a small town where everyone knows everyone, so reputation matters. But here in the city, it seems like it's luck of the draw. Now we've finally found an auto shop with people who are trustworthy, efficient, and kind. Greg has gone above and beyond for us, from our first visit when someone stole our catalytic converter and he walked over to our house to help us figure out what happened, and most recently when he worked directly with the dealership on our behalf to get a major repair covered by the manufacturer. With all of our maintenance and repairs in between, Greg has been transparent and forthright with what is actually needed, a far cry from our dealership service department who badgered us to approve unnecessary work every single time we would visit. Grace Automotive is pretty much the best repair garage I've ever been to, and I'm not just saying that because I live within walking distance from them. I've been to many, many mechanics over the years, and few measure up to Grace; you'll rarely see me giving a five-star review to auto repair shops. As a VW fan, I've found those cars are allergic to indifferent mechanics and half-hearted repairs. And since I own both an MKIV Jetta and a '84 MK1 Jetta, I don't always have the space and ability to fix everything (try diagnosing a CIS K-Jet fuel injection system). Enter Grace Automotive. These guys know foreign cars, period. Look at their lot and you'll also realize right away they specialize in old VWs, including aircooled models. Stan know these cars as if they were made yesterday. And another redeeming quality of Grace are their prices. Stan will tell you what you don't need fixed, and he will charge you very reasonable prices for the work they needed to do. Very honest; just remember to bring cash or check when it's time to pay. read more

Grace Auto is hands down the best garage in the city of Chicago. Stanley (the owner) is the consummate professional and one of the most honest persons I've ever met. Every mechanic there is highly skilled and extremely knowledgeable in both domestic and foreign cars. I have been going here for work on my very rare 1980's Mercedes Gelandewagens for over a decade and each time he does repairs they are equal or above the standards you'd expect in Graz Austria where they were built. This place understands engineering rather than relying solely on repair manuals, so they have no problems working with exotic vehicles that make other mechanics nervous. They work on modern vehicles as well, and I've likewise gone here for work on my BMW with excellent results. read more

These guys do it right! They run a shop like it should be run. You bring them your car, they give you an estimate, they do the work, and when you pick it up.... they SHOW you the bad parts they replaced and EXPLAIN exactly what they did and why they did it. Every mechanic should do this so A. You are more informed and B. You know they didn't just rip you off. And these guys don't, prices are totally fair and I'd recommend them to anyone, especially anyone with a Volkswagen. The only downside is that they don't take credit cards.... but every mechanic I've ever found like this didn't take cards, so you kind of just have to deal. 5 stars, no question about it. read more

Great service. My parents used to bring their Beetle to Stan when I was a kid-back in the early eighties these cars were everywhere (I'm talking real Beetles here). My plumbing service shop uses restored VW Microbuses for service, and now Stan and his guys do service on them for us-reliablity is extremely important and this shop does it once and right. I've referred customers to them as I know he does great work at a reasonable cost. He's pretty funny, too. read more
