The food was not consistent in flavor. The maduras were perfect. The white rice was great. The black beans were bland. The seasoning on the churrasco steak was bland. The cortadito was perfect. The entire dinner experience was outstanding. From the moment our party of 4 walked in, the service, food, and environment was fantastic. The staff was friendly and accommodating. While ordering, recommendations and pairing with appropriate side orders complemented each other. All of the food tasted great. We ordered the empanadas and croquettes and they were phenomenal. This made our anticipation of the main entrees even more desirable. Our party ordered the fish stew, beef stew, and churrasco. The food was cooked perfectly with great tastes. We also got the natural juices (watermelon, orange, pineapple, and lemon) and all were fresh and all natural. I would recommend this restaurant any day of the week, any time of the day. They have an EEEPPPIIICCCC (EPIC) Ropa Vieja entree & ALSO ropa Vieja empanadas that are to die for... this is tied for my favorite Cuban restaurant, & In terms of VALUE (i.e."bang for your buck"), you will not find gourmet Cuban food at anywhere close to the prices of this restaurant... 1st OFF: having worked on Calle Ocho(8th street to non-locals), I've seen & ate at dozens of Cuban restaurants here... most suck frankly. In fact, I have a friend that likes to joke: "Things are so bad @ some of these restaurants in little Havana that they have to be drug fronts... just with no drugs lol"... I take the perspective that many of these restaurants bring a meal that's a bad version of left-overs; and I am embarrassed to admit that this is all I thought Cuban food was for a long time... However, further experience revealed that THERE ARE AMAZING CUBAN RESTAURANTS with AMAZING CUBAN FOOD up & down Calle Ocho &throughout Lil Havana! They are few and far between however, so be careful, and choosing the right place!!! Here you cannot go wrong, & in addition to the amazing food, the proprietor of this restaurant Is a beautiful, sweet young lady that brightens the day of patrons. I have a feeling we're going to see big things from this restauranteur in the future... The space is a small intimate space, cleaner & more comfortable than your average restaurant, but with only 12 to 15 tables... one of which is a lounge made up of a comfy loveseat and upholstered chairs. If you're looking to kick back, that's the table to take!!! **FOR PRICE CONSCIOUS DINERS: VISIT SOONER RATHER THAN LATER... My grandmother (who is also Cuban) absolutely loved the Tostones and my uncle and I loved the maduros. Well taken care of, clean bathroom and directly on Calle Ocho. BEST MOJITO EVER. Everyone had a great time. Service was amazing. Food Came out super quick, was freshly cooked and ready. The only thing I could complain about was that my croquetas were a teeny bit cold but this place is AMAZING!!!! I recommend stopping by. Lots of places on Calle Ocho are super loud and busy, if you want a chill stop with good music and a nice calm ambience this is the place to go. You will love it. What a charming restaurant, and owner Lauren! This is a very special family owned and operated restaurant with exquisite traditional Cuban food. Start with the house mojito hand made from scratch by Lauren herself, (so, so, perfect) and then either choose from a wonderful range of seafood, pork, beef and chicken- based appetizers and then entrees, or better yet ask Lauren for her recommendations. We had the fish croquettes...WOW and served with a delicate light cilantro? sauce, and moved on to the roast pork (perfectly cooked and spiced; couldn't have been better) and I chose the black beans and rice (guaranteed to be unlike what you expect, or have ever had before, and really yummy) and also with a side of yucca con salsa (also so much better and different than what you might expect; and so delicious). Lastly the flan will definitely be the best you have tasted and don't forget the tres leches cake! Our table also had the Cuban sandwich, the fish stew, sweet plantains and more. Gotta check this cozy place out. You'll feel like you are family; Lauren is so friendly, smiley and an excellent hostess, and her mom and dad are running the kitchen with grace! read more
