Miso salad: chicken dry as a bone and squeaky. The lettuce pieces were as long as my fork. I enjoy the Habit. It's a relatively easy place to grab a tasty burger, fries, and a drink, and enjoy a meal. My recent trip to Atwater, we decided to pop in to the habit for a tasty burger. Frankly, what we walked into was a bad experience. The restaurant itself was definitely not clean, and when we were ordering, we were question in each other as to whether or not, we should get our food to go, or just try to dine in. We opted to dine in . The people at the counter, or more preoccupied with yelling at one another, and making jokes, while they ignored the customers at the counter. This included people trying to pick up their orders, as well as the line of three other people waiting to order. We both ordered the big bacon burgers with sweet potato fries, and a side of barbecue sauce, with two large drinks. We were told that we wouldn't have to pick the order up from the counter, but that they would bring it to the table. Fair enough. Almost 30 minutes into waiting for food, and pretty much being the only ones that had decided to dine in, we could not figure out what was taking so long. A crowded restaurant is explainable, an empty one while waiting for food is not. When the food arrived, disappointment doesn't even begin to describe the food. The onions on my burger were raw, and I had asked for no onions. I had asked for extra sauce on my burger, and it was dry, and missing the additional cheese that I had requested. The large order of fries was anything but large. I normally order the tempura green beans because those are my go to. I was told that they were out of them. The fries were fairly soggy and more on the cold side, and I was perplexed as to how they were just made and yet tasted cold. We both went to the counter to try to have the order fixed, only to be met with a level of rudeness, and being told, that's just how it is. They did not offer to fix or remake the food, nor did they offer to refund the money. I'm not sure what's going on at this location, but after not being able to eat an expensive meal, and leaving our food literally on the table and walking out, we won't be walking back in. read more

I have changed my mind! This place is so fresh and savory, the waters are so good. With mango and strawberry drinks, exceptional ranch, and delicious saucy burgers! The place, tables, restrooms, and employees were super polite. Samantha took our order and she was super polite, giving us better options of combos, different alternatives for fries, what burger was the most popular, and handing me a to go box when I needed one. I've been to this location a couple times and it's been good every time. They do have a drive thru also. We ordered a couple double chats with bacon and no salt on the pattys. We always substitute the fries for onion rings and dip them in ranch. The Santa Barbra Cobb salad was extra good this evening. The parm cheese was almost non existent with no taste ( I wonder what it really was) I tasted 0 garlic and was charged $3.99. I ordered tempura green beans and for over cooked and dry green beans. Quality and consistency have sadly gone down. Got a Santa Barbara char and it hardly had any avocado on it. The hamburger patties were not not cooked throughout and I hope I don't get sick from the few bites I took. Sadly, had to throw away my burger since I don't want food poisoning. There was also chunks of black carbon in the Brussel sprouts from the grill not being cleaned enough. Staff was friendly and attentive but unfortunately the food wasn't acceptable. read more

Posted last month on a bad experience I had at The Habit Burger in Atwater. I was given a broad response and an opportunity to make it right or at least conversation to discuss the experience but there was no follow thru. The first bite of my cheeseburger had a funny, cleanser sort of taste, but I thought it was my imagination because there was an employee cleaning booths around us and you know how sometimes your brain tricks you? A couple more bites in and I took it off the bun to eat just the patty and nope. It totally had a sweet, cleaner sort of taste to it. I started getting sick about 6 hours later and now it's been 10 hours and I'm still not feeling great. Speaking of patties, both my husband's and mine were really small compared to the buns, like, he could take a full bite from the edge before he got to the meat. I asked Maria Cortez the GM at the register for grilled jalapeños ( which I have gotten at this store and other Habit Burgers in the past, she said " we don't do that " well, We have gotten this in the past, along with the grilled pineapple. My wife and I were traveling north on Highway 99 yesterday and decided to eat at Habit Burger Grill, Atwater, CA. We both ordered Double Char-burgers and fries. Unfortunately the Char-burgers were much smaller than we have ever eaten at a Habit Burger Grill, burned to a crisp, and the fries were terribly soggy. We have eaten in many Habit Burger Grills all over CA, for years and consider them the best burgers in the state. However this Habit Burger Grill does not meet the standard of any of the others we've eaten in. For that reason, we won't be returning to the Atwater Habit Burger Grill. Although their food here tends to be better in quality and taste than some of the fast food junk in the area, they do have their moments where they drop the ball. This location usually does a good job with properly cooking their menu items, but I have experienced visits where their burger patties are dry and inedible and their lettuce is either wilted from too much heat exposure or soggy from too much water during rinsing. If you decide to eat here I'd suggest taking your food to go as the dining area tends to get very hot and smokey because of their indoor charbroiling and weak ventilation system. read more

After three attempts here, I was really hoping for the quality I've received in other habit locations I think I'm done with this one. My order today consisted of the coldest fries I've ever purchased that i can remember. My sandwich lacked the topping I had asked for and my daughters bacon BBQ burger was minus the BBQ sauce? 2 stars for them making it on time and my drink.
