Self order kiosks work well - easy to navigate and not a bunch of annoying prompts to buy more as in most other fast food places. Neighborhood is great - i think its technically Oakland - but it is the nice part. Clean and safe feeling. It is the million dollar question: why are some parts so bad? What attracts the trash? Food was hot and good value and not too much. I loved the portion size and avocado - it is all just perfect. If I were to cook at home I couldn't do it as well for as little a cost. Last night, the manager on duty handled an extremely uncomfortable situation with a couple who were being very disrespectful, using profanity and speaking to him in a demeaning way. The way he handled it was professional, calm, and exactly how a manager should respond in that situation. He did not raise his voice, did not escalate things, and he set a clear boundary that he would not tolerate being spoken to that way. I was honestly impressed by his composure and leadership. Employees should never be expected to accept verbal abuse, and this manager did the right thing by standing up for himself while still representing the company well. I sincerely hope this manager is not disciplined in any way for this incident. If anything, he deserves recognition for how well he handled a very difficult interaction. Experiences like this are a reminder of how important it is for management to support their staff. This is my second time in the last two weeks picking up an online order for my son, and unfortunately both experiences involved poor customer service from the same employee at the front counter. The first time, I asked for honey mustard sauces. I completely understand there may be an extra charge, and I had no issue paying for them. However, the employee had an attitude before even explaining the charge. There are polite ways to communicate these things to customers. Today, my son placed another online order. We were originally told it would take 9 minutes, but it ended up being closer to 20 minutes. That honestly was not a problem. While waiting, though, I noticed the same employee picking and choosing who she wanted to be friendly to. When I thought an order that came out might be mine, she approached me with an attitude and asked what I wanted. I explained the order details, but her response was rude. I stayed calm and respectful. Later, she came back asking about a kids' meal, and I told her I wanted to verify with my son first to make sure it was our order. She became even more impatient and started saying she did not have time. I gave her the order number, but she ignored it at first and acted like she did not need to check it. Another employee, who may have been the manager, came over and asked for the information. Sure enough, the order had already been ready the entire time. This experience was disappointing. Customer service should not depend on whether an employee feels like being nice that day. I understand some customers can be difficult, but you cannot assume that about people before even trying to provide respectful service. Can't believe I've never reviewed this Habit since we're frequent fliers. Pro tip: Download the app and order from there...even if you're not a frequent diner. This ain't In n Out with a 3 item menu. There's a lot going on here and being able to take it all in on the app is a real advantage. We customize our order quite a bit and have never had a problem. We happen to live a few blocks away so ordering on the app, it's perfect timing. We're generally just rolling up as the food is being put in the bag. Anyway, hands down, the best burger out there (and the non-burger options are great too). The fries are not my very favorite but I get onion rings or string beans anyway. The shakes are perfect. The coffee shake is particular standout and not something you'll find many places. If Habit had a drive-through, they would rule the world. Solid fast food that always delivers. Staff is friendly and patient, food comes out in a timely manner and its always hot and fresh. Compared to other fast food burger chains, Habit is a good price for the quality. I recommend getting the regular or double char burger with cheese and add bacon. I usually go to The Habit Burger in Alameda because it is close to home. I know what I want to order - my two favorite items, Santa Barbara char and tempura green beans with ranch dressing. Beverage: tropical flavored iced tea. The advertisement board had banana wafer milkshake. Yummy, and how I wish I was not diabetic, just to have a big sip of that milkshake. No can do. Service was quick, as they were not very busy and there weren't that many customers. The one thing I am not used to is the terminal in the front where I can touch the screen to order food and beverage. One of these days I will learn how to use the terminal. You can order grilled buns or onions, medium rare steak sandwich, and they even have delicious Oreo cookie ice cream shake which is really good. It's my go to when I come here. Customer service have also been very consistent, excellent regardless which location I go to. That's unheard of these days. This location was below average. (grain of salt: I dropped in about an hour for closing for takeout) It could have been because it was end of shift, maybe they were short staffed, not sure. The restaurant was messy. Trash and spilled drinks on the ground at the entrance. My burger was soppy. I was surprised too because they had the takeout bag sitting open. I expected my food to just be cold. The fries were undercooked too. Soft flimsy fries. If they just need more staffing--I hope they get the support. Maybe it was a bad day/night. Stopped by to try the Gotta Habit meal deal and was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience at dinner time (~6:30, 7/8/25). The meal was a great value and was served nice and hot. The restaurant was clean-including the bathrooms. But what was most impressive was the service provided by the gentleman running the front counter. He was friendly, helpful, and hustled NON-STOP the entire time we were dining inside. He was constantly moving and keeping things running smoothly and even came out to wipe down tables and tidy the trash/tray return area. Food 4/5 Food was fast and hot upon reciept. Pretty typical of a burger but I appreciate that it doesn't appear to be too oily like some establishments. You have to add cheese and pay extra for it. I do think a single is sufficent but if you are extra hungry, a double might be the way to go. Fries were hot and cripsy. They are a little bigger than most other places and pretty darn good. Service 2/5 I've been to other Habit locations and I feel like there is a bit of lacking service at this location. A lot of the tables were dirty and it was later at night with not too many people in the dinning area. Ambiance 3/5 Ambiance was average for a Habit location. We always seem to have a great experience at this Habit Burger. The food is just like every other Habit we've been to, but the service is outstanding. The staff is always so busy, but regardless so helpful. And the place stays quite clean. Even the bathrooms. Right now they are having $5 sandwich specials. There called the $5 "Simple Crafts". And there are three options: (1) Chardog, (2) Parmesan Grilled Cheese, and (3) BLT. I recommend the Parmesan Grilled Cheese. It is *RICH*. This is a savory treat. Lots of cheese and the bread is grilled with butter and parmesan. So good. I also highly recommend the onion rings here. They are very crispy. The burger was nice and juicy, the cheese was melted to perfection, and the bun was grilled beautifully. Them sweet potato fries though! Friggin' SCRUMPTIOUS! Cooked perfectly. Yes, there is a sweet potato fry Gawd, and he is here! I loved that they had flavored lemonades and juices to choose from. Loved their strawberry lemonade and the cucumber citrus. I didn't order them this time around, but I will never forget their tempura green beans! My employees order these from here all the time and they are so fragrant. To switch out your fries for rings is an entire $2.95 extra according to the cashier today and you don't get the original fries.
