Great texture. Yet despite the heartiness, you can really taste the quality of the ingredients (they source their ingredients from Italy). I've enjoyed talking to the wife (co-owner with her husband). She's really friendly and passionate about the food she serves. She told me her husband is from Italy, and you can really feel the pride in the food. Pro tips: It's best to call in early to order ahead! You can pay at pickup. Why? Because they often sell out early! Once the bread runs out, you're out of luck (and there will be a sign on the front door saying so). There can also be a very long wait time if there are a lot of orders. Lastly, check their IG everyday for the sandwich they're promoting that day based on their available ingredients! Seriously can't wait to return and try the meatball sandwich.

The deli meats and veggies were incredibly fresh, and getting your sandwich on Dutch Crunch bread is a must. It really takes the whole sandwich to the next level. This spot felt like a hidden gem. As an Alameda native who hasn't lived here in nearly 10 years, I wish I had known about this place sooner. Whenever we're back in town, this will definitely be our go-to lunch spot!

One of best sandwich shops in the Bay Area with a MUST-TRY roast lamb sandwich…read more Domenicos is an unsuspecting sandwich shop at the end of Webster. Honestly I would miss it otherwise. However, an acquaintance raved about it, so we had to try. Once inside, you sense the warm, family-run feel, and regulars and staff know each other. You also get the sense that people know where it's at when it comes to great sandwiches. The sandwiches are amazing. Ok, I'll be honest -- I went like three times in two weeos, but have only tried one sandwich. Because it's so dang amazing. The roast lamb sandwich. My girlfriend agrees, and that's also the only thing she gets. It's borderline life-changing. We like it with: dutch crunch, pepperjack, lettuce, tomato, red onion, mayo, and a bit of Dijon. I also tried their fantastic tiramisu, one of the best I've had. They carry delicious chips; I've enjoyed the pesto and truffle flavors. They also carry the delicious, local Alameda Soda Co sodas. Just an awesome way to enjoy delicious food and support local businesses. Other notes: For two people, a large should be fine! They wrap it as two sandwiches. Works perfectly for me and my gf, with chips and drinks. The have a dining area at both the front and back of the shop. Lines can form, but nothing extreme. Absolutely worth it. They take phone orders! I haven't tried yet. I don't mind waiting and it's nice to chat with the staff (if they're not too busy).

Amazing Service and the best Pastrami Sandwich I've ever had. Will definitely be coming back soon!!!read more

Want a free sandwich?…read more Complete this puzzle and it's all yours! The pastrami sandwich here is sooooo good I actually ordered two of them. This is the first place in the world that had me eating rye. I hate rye bread, and was worried because there are no substitutions, but the sandwiches here were so good and the bread didn't taste like the traditional prison food hard rye bread. You changed me Krispy Joe's, and had me eating stuff I never would have. Also, drinking stuff I never would have. I bought their chai and lemonade, both were 5 stars, and they offered me their pickle juice electrolyte drink to try. I was skeptical at first, but again they made me a believer. I hate pickle juice and pickle flavored anything in general. Yet, they converted me once again when they offered me a sample of their pickle-aid. It tasted like a mild tasting plain Gatorade. If I were still training for a marathon, I would totally buy this! Back to their amazing sandwiches. They are made with such care, dusting every sandwich that's made to order with their secret spices while toasting the meat and bread. The slaw was fresh and herbaceous. Again, made with care and craftsmanship. I am rooting for this business to expand and take over Ike's Sandwiches. I believe in you Krispy Joe's, you have my vote!

After popping in for post-gym coffees for over a year, I decided it was finally time to try one of their sandwiches. I was feeling something light that day, so decided to go with their house veggie sandwich. It was packed with all the right veggies, and stayed in tact for the entire time I spent munching, which is a very important part of sandwich consumption. Washed it down with one of the best dirty chai lattes in the area. Safe to say, I will continue to stop here for post-gym coffees, and will definitely be trying some of their other sandwiches in the near future.

Three stars. I want to be fair about this, because a three-star review is the hardest one to write…read more One star is easy -- something went wrong and you want people to know. Five stars is easy -- you're in love and you want to share. Three stars is the vast middle, the territory of the adequate, and adequacy deserves its own honest accounting. The croissant is Sysco. You know the one -- the same laminated, uniformly golden, structurally sound but spiritually hollow croissant that arrives frozen on a truck and emerges from an oven in ten thousand cafés across America. It is not bad. It is not good. It is a croissant-shaped object that fulfills the contractual obligations of being a croissant. The coffee is forgettable in the way that coffee is forgettable when nobody in the building is thinking very hard about coffee. Both are priced at a level that sets your expectations for something premium, and premium is not what arrives. The service is good, genuinely good, and this matters more than it should given the above. Someone is trying here, even if the kitchen isn't reaching. Not everybody swings for the fences. Sometimes you're in Emeryville -- a city that exists in the space between Oakland and Berkeley the way an airport exists between departures and arrivals -- and you need a place to sit and a thing to eat and the place that's right there is the place you go. Ruby's is the place that's right there. Sometimes convenience and adequacy is enough, and knowing the difference between a place that disappoints you and a place that simply is what it is might be the most important skill a regular restaurant-goer can develop. Ruby's is what it is.
