They've made a bad change with the steak. It tastes like a lower quality with less flavor and it has consistency like ground beef. It's a shame, this place used to make my favorite cheesesteak and I've been visiting since I was a kid but now the quality tastes pretty bad.

So I was working in the area. This is the first place that came up and it was so delicious. My order was on time. The food was delicious just as I asked. Thank you so much. It was worth it.

The service is remarkably enthusiastic and the food is authentic. The vibe is just like Philly.

Cheesesteak, a bit small but good flavor.

It was one of those nights when I didn't want to lose my great parking space at the hotel so I ordered delivery. I decided on a cheesesteak that would deliver. Ended up getting one from here the full size steak. It ran $15 but was arguably small for that price based on other places I've had but then again this is California. The flavor was good. It ended up costing 25 with the delivery extremely pricey, but... it saved me from having to drive and lose my spot. I may order again from here sometime, but definitely not a delivery.

I was really craving a juicy, delicious classic cheesesteak and we were in the lakeshore grand area. The classic was kinda dry with minimal to non-existent cheese. Is it just me? Can someone tell me where I get a decent cheesesteak?

I just want to say it pains me to write this because I've LOVED the Cheese Steak Shop since the 80's but there is only so much I can take. I ordered a large Motown Philly and it was TINY. Smaller than a hot dog. Barely any meat at all.

In a world of high prices and skimpy sandwiches, The Cheese Steak Shop still delivers good food at fair prices. I was in the area, and decided to try their Oakland location. I'm a regular customer at their place in East Alameda. I ordered the Classic Philly Cheese Steak, King size, Hot w/ Peppers and Onions. It's great sandwich, loaded with meat and spicy toppings. But a little tip.....if you order it HOT it doesn't travel well. The wrapper doesn't breathe, and the hot steam makes the sandwich moist. Next time, I should order it cold or regular. Hey, that's my fault! If you're not going to eat it right away, don't order it HOT. Otherwise, a great sandwich.

Been around for some years. Lakeshore location is pretty consistent. Good portions. Tho only knock is they get so busy they don't clean the tables as often as they should but overall a good steak sandwich.

The Classic Philly Cheese Steak is called that for a reason - it's legit. Having grown up near Philadelphia, I have a certain idea as to what a Philly cheese steak should be, and what they're serving here is pretty much it. Proper steak with American cheese (I don't go for the whiz myself) on an Amoroso's roll with hot and sweet peppers and onions, it's just like what I'd get at my favorite spot in Philly, Tony Luke's. Hits the spot every time.

Can YOU say, Yuuuuummmmm?! I can. And even louder when I eat at The Cheese Steak Shop. Oakland, CA is such a diverse melting pot of people with SO many great places to eat. Nevertheless, The Cheese Steak Shop holds a special place in my heart. The savory infusion of meat w/sweet peppers, condiments and veggies is unmatched. Quality Customer Service, and the fun environment is what gets me every time. Great moments are made with great food. One of the many ways to my heart is definitely a great meal from The Cheesesteak Shop! Thank you

I'm hungry. My husband is hungry, too. It was our monthly visit to the Lakeshore Avenue shopping district to pay our landline bill at AT&T. We decided to stop in at The Cheese Steak for one of their sandwiches. Husband ordered a large classic philly steak with peppers and onion for us to share. The sammie was okay. He liked the sammie, but I was not totally impressed. It seemed as though I wanted more to that sammie. Perhaps the next time when we are in the area to take care of business, we will return for one or two more visits to try other items on the menu - the hoagie or the motown philly. The pizza one sounds interesting, too. Who knows? More returned visits might have me up the rating to four stars. Specialties: premium cheese steaks in three sizes - regular, large and king; salads, assortment of sides, beverages and a kid's menu. Customer service is good. We did not have to wait long for our sammie. Another perk: They sell cheese steak gift cards.

I'm forever grateful for that recommendation because they make some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've tried a few items on the menu, but the one I always recommend is the Hot Italian. Everything about this sandwich is incredible. It's packed with flavor, and you can honestly tell it was made with care. I usually pair it with a bag of chips, and the total comes to around $18. It's absolutely worth every penny and always leaves me full and satisfied. The shop is consistently clean, and the customer service is always friendly and welcoming. I find myself going back over and over again, then telling myself I need to take a break--only to end up back there a few weeks later. That's how good it is. A couple of things to keep in mind before you visit: there's only limited street parking, so you may have to circle the block to find a spot. There's also not much room to wait inside, although they do have a bench or two where you can sit while your sandwich is being prepared. In my experience, the wait is usually around 15 minutes. I've honestly never been here when it wasn't busy, so expect a crowd. But once you take that first bite, you'll understand why. Great food, great atmosphere, and great customer service. I highly recommend checking this place out!

The deli is a nice size with a couple of benches to sit and wait for your food. You can look at the menu and order, plus grab a drink or chips. They have a nice variety of items to grab that go well with your sandwich. The service was friendly and quick. Workers were all kind, and we love that it's dog-friendly! Regarding the sandwiches, you can get a hot or cold sandwich. You can also build your own! Companion got the Hot Boy, and I went the Build Your Own route. The sandwiches are hefty, with lots of great meats and fillings, and for the price, very decent! I wish my bread were a bit more toasted and crunchier, but that's my preference. It hit the spot, and I'd be open to trying their other sandwiches. I don't often go to delis, but Brothers Deli was a nice place to try. We enjoyed it by the waterfront, which makes it a great picnic option. Find them off Park Blvd., with street and residential parking around.

This is a professionally made and packaged sandwich. Very impressive how neat everything was and surprised how generous the napkins were - until we started eating. This is NOT delicate dining. Had to have a whole sandwich with pig's head - seasoned perfectly, just the right amount of heat from fresh Serrano chilis and a runny fried egg - this was the length of an adult forearm - huge, shareable for sure. The falafel was still crunchy and had good flavor - shredded lettuce could have been dried better, was a bit watery. It's a good option for vegan and to balance out the sisig! However, the menu is quite varied with a good amount of classic sandwiches, signature items, and sides. We wanted to try the Sichuan Chicken bites, but they were sold out unfortunately. I ended up ordering the House Turkey Breast without red onions, and was impressed with the quality and flavor of the sandwich. I liked the inclusion of both the alfalfa and avocado. We also ordered a side of the house ramen spiced fries, which were tasty and crispy but didn't quite leave an impression. I've had their Spicy Hog, steak with mushroom, a few Cubans, but the one that I always come back to is "The Balls" sandwich. First off, this sandwich is massive, so be sure that you come here on an empty stomach. These beef meatballs are seasoned to perfection and bursting with flavor. The balls are covered in their red sauce with provolone and Grana Padano, which gives it that nutty and salty flavor that pairs extremely well with the meatballs and baguette. All the juices and cheese just get soaked up to perfection. The baguette bread they use is supplied by La Farine, which is just a few meters away from each other. Just putting out there that La Farine is hands down one of the best bakeries in Oakland, so it makes sense that this sandwich would be so dang good. I'll be honest that I'm not a big fan of the chips or those chips in general and could be fine with just the sandwich. If you are going to have any sandwich to eat here first, I would highly recommend you try "The Balls" because I promise you will not be disappointed. I will always say that the dozen or so times I've been here, the staff are always so friendly, and the atmosphere is very down to earth. Truly heartbreaking to see how far we've fallen with this shop from the staff blatantly ignoring customers to gab, deceptive assembly of sandwiches, to questionable practices of food safety. I don't like to complicate things, so I will 9/10 times order something I've eaten before because I like "tried and true." Due to this, for the aforementioned 20 years, I have ordered the Little Lucca Ultimate Club on Dutch Crunch, same cheese every time and all. Imagine my surprise when the bread is still roughly the same size as always, but the meat portions are wildly lacking in comparison to past orders. Little Lucca has been featured on TV and social media for the enormous size of their sandwiches and have been heavily commended on the meat-to-price ratio of sorts for that reason. I mean, even here on their Yelp page they boast about the sizeable sandwiches. The issue now is that reducing portion size of the interior (meat), while keeping the exterior the same (bread), is very misleading when your brand is known for loading up the sandwich. Bread is delicious, but I'd hazard a guess that customers would want less bread than less meat. I am no detective, but I did notice that my total for two sandwiches was ~$33 which was less than the usual ~$39, so it could be that the reason for less meat is to keep the cost low. Still, even when it was costing me an all-time high of ~$18 for an Ultimate Club, it was worth it in the end for the portion received. For sandwiches' sake, THREE different people were involved in my Club and I was thoroughly told I was wrong to believe the ULTIMATE Club came with more than THREE strips of bacon despite it being one of the three meats of the sandwich. I attached photos to show how I'd rather pay the extra $6 to get the original sandwich back. I didn't want to argue, so after they said it a second time, I relented. Still, as I was going to pay, they opened up another sandwich to "prove" the bacon portion size. I apologized to the other customer on their (Lucca) behalf. There are two boxes of gloves always on the counters of Little Lucca, one by the bread, the other by the meat slicer. They have been there faithfully for so long, it's almost comforting to see them. I found out today that they are just for decoration as not one of the FIVE sandwich makers replaced their gloves between touching meats, surfaces (microwave/fridges/drawers/slicer), ingredients from the bucket underneath, sandwich assembly, or my personal favorite, coming from the back storage. In lieu of swapping gloves, the sandwich makers have settled on wiping the surface of their current gloves with butcher paper. When I asked at the register about this practice, I was told that is literally as they are trained to do. They are apparently told there is NO NEED to replace gloves unless they go to the back storage. That one hit a little weird for me. I promise that this is not an easy review to leave and it is so disappointing that this is where Little Lucca ends for me, but I could not be less enthused about paying less for a sandwich if it's going to be so poorly made, nostalgia be dawned. The locals already know this, but I'll just put it out there for visitors to not get duped, you will for sure catch me going to Teani's from now on. I asked for Kathy, the owner, at the register so that I could share my concern with her, but she was in the back and I was told she was busy. I didn't want to hold the flow of the business up, so I paid, thanked the person at the register and left, not to return. Few things are as much of a bummer as paying for food you didn't like.
