I've been going to Habit for a couple years now and it's one of my favorite burger spots. I'm not a fan of the regular cheeseburgers, but their Santa Barbara, with avocado, caramelized onions, tomatoes, pickles, lettuce, and cheese on grilled sourdough, is addicting. I usually get the $10 Gotta Habit meal, which comes with half of a Santa Barbara, five piece chicken bites, and your choice of a garden salad, fries, or tempura green beans, and a drink. The salads are always fresh and packed; the tempura green beans are always light and crisp, and the fries are decent. Their new garlic, parmesan cheese fries are good with a funky flavor. When they had their tempura avocado wedges, it became my habit, they were perfectly fried, crisp on the outside and warm and creamy on the inside with a hint of citrus. Their dragonfruit limeade is also my favorite, but it's seasonal. The staff are always nice and friendly. I order ahead to beat the wait. It's usually chill inside even when it's busy. There it's outdoor seating and the place is kept pretty clean. read more

I recently tried The Habit Burger Grill in Porterville, and while I would not call the food bad since it was my first time and you should try something 2 or 3 times before calling it nasty, I was definitely not impressed. The place was completely empty when I walked in, which already felt a bit strange, and there was no one at the counter to take my order, so I had to order off the tablet instead. The burger was decent but nothing special, and the fries were a bit too salty for my taste. I might give it another shot to be fair, but based on this first visit, I would not recommend rushing to try it. read more

I'm not one to make a bad review. BUT. The service was less than good, I specifically asked for our burgers to be good well done after watching a couple complain about their burgers being undercooked. Ground beef is not safe to be consumed at less than well done. When this couple complained the guy cooking told them that it was fine and it was just the lighting. Upon getting home to eat our to go order, we found our burgers to not be cooked to well done like I had asked. Secondly, the fries taste like they were cooked in fry oil that has not been changed in a while. Really disappointing for $40. read more

One of the best lunches I've had in a long time! Ordered kind of early in the day so decided on getting the double burger to split in half and finish later. This is a huge burger! I did add mustard to the burger and have to say that it did not look exceptional when I unwrapped it but the flavor was wonderful it was a slightly drippy hot mess and every bite was delicious! I always order my fries extra well done and they are perfect. This time I also added a side salad which was much bigger than I was expecting had to kind of use my hands to mix it around a bit because it was too full to mix easily in the carton. Very nice tasting salad with red onions, cucumber, small croutons, cheese, tomatoes. I chose the ranch dressing which was very good as well. I ate half the burger and most of the fries and half the salad and was so full but it was too good I could not stop! I don't visit the habit as much as I should. Parking can be a pain and I just always prefer a drive-through but anytime I eat here I tell myself I have to remember that it is worth it. They are a little higher priced than some of the other chains but definitely a step above most as well. Highly recommended only took a star off because of the cost. read more

Working in Porterville today and wasn't sure what to get. Was in the mood for In 'N Out but they don't have one in this town. That's ok...went to Habit and came away impressed. Instead of a Char Butger I went with the Ahi Tuna Patty sandwich. It was cooked perfectly, lots of meat, and the toppings were fresh and delicious. Add to that the golden crispy fries (better than In'N Out's IMO) that were both fluffy and crispy. Solid place for great burgers and other sandwiches. read more

Got a DM from Habit then got a call from corporate. They will be addressing the issue of no gloves on the cooks. I was told that it is SOP for the cooks to be wearing gloves. The DM will be following up with the location. Other than this, the food is great. I just wish they would go back to a French roll for their tri-tip and if they would add chili as an option for the burgers. I've been eating at The Habit since it was only 1 location and not a chain. We arrived in the afternoon and were happy to see social distancing in place. Staff wore masks and were very friendly. We ordered the tri-tip sandwich and the ahi tuna sandwich, which were both delicious and the tip-tip sandwich was very juicy. We also ordered sweet potato fries and a drink. The sweet potato fries were wonderful and the drink was an in house peach drink, which we both enjoyed. We will be returning to eat more once covid ceases and we are able to dine in again. read more

I have eaten at other hamburger places before that are sort of upscale chains, but the Habit was really good. The teriyaki char combo is only a little more than Jack In The Box and so much better! My date got the Santa Barbara burger and a side of onion rings, which were so crispy! I plan on coming back to try the tempura green beans and the grilled chicken. The only thing that concerned me was that they use ahi tuna steaks since I know those are frozen and not at all fresh. Definitely recommend. read more

It is very inconvenient to return to the store for missing items and no way to contact the store directly regarding the issues!!! If you have a salad, YOU NEED DRESSING! Omg I tried the French onion char burger! From the crispy bun to the charred patty this burger is delicious. Every bite was a perfect bite. So delicious! We live 20 minutes away and my burger was still warm and wonderful when I got it. There were some flavors from this particular burger that gave me memories of Bobs big Boy. The Habit has always been one of my favorites! The Santa Barbara Char lettuce wrapped is always a winner (comes with avocado and grilled onions). Sweet potato fries are delicious and crispy. I ordered curbside pick up, and I waited for a long time in my car. The employees inside had no customers they were just standing in the store talking to each other while I waited outside for my order to be dropped off. I did press the link too early saying I was there by accident, but eventually I was there in my model car and color as I put on the link but no employee of the habit came out. I usually don't write reviews like this but I had my daughter in the back of my car sleeping. I just did not like how the employees saw me pull up to my spot and looked at me and did nothing. It would be different if it was so busy I understand but no one other customer was there. It's very disappointing as well because I tried to call the store and no one would answer. I eventually did go in the store real quick and the employee told me "Well you pressed the link too early." Not the best experience I hope it does not happen again. read more

Place is great, the only other place I could recommend and insist people do is the vault on Main Street. One issue I had was I was told twice by the management team here on Yelp that I would be sent vouchers for previous issues and they never sent anything. Dropped a C note for takeout using the app. Ordered garlic fries and onion rings in my order and when I got back there were no onion rings or dipping sauce for the garlic fries. The Habit on Henderson is better than in-N-out. I've tried almost all burger places in Porterville, and the double char is the best in town. I've just tried the double char (that's what I eat everywhere else), and I love it. Great cheese, and the meat is nicely grilled. Toasty buns and crispy fries make me wanna go every day to get one. Also, the tea is fresh and tasty. When it comes to service, it is good. You go in there, they greet you and sell you food which is more than enough for me. Overall it is spotless and has an excellent environment. I recommend anyone in town to go and try it. read more

The sandwich was so messy and soggy , after the meat slipped out of the sandwich I was just left with a salad sandwich. Also the onion rings tasted like the onions used were already old.
