Came here a few times but only recently finally purchased some generic guppies for a barrel of water lilies I'm trying to grow. I only came here for guppies so if anyone is looking for guppies cause this came as a search result, they only stock MALE guppies. Very nice fish in clean tanks with a variety of colors and breeds but this will not be a one stop shop for the breeding guppy tank I assume you came here for. Store has helpful staff and wide variety of fish both saltwater and freshwater, birds, mammals, and reptiles, aquatic plants, supplies, really everything is here except female guppies. read more

Absolutely horrific pet store. Cruel and unusual treatment of animals. Fish tanks extremely dirty, overpacked bird and guinea cages... and mice and rats dead and dying. The mice and rats were eating the dead ones inside of the cage. There were bunnies nearly passing out due to lack of water and the insane heat inside of the building. It was extreme, and the conditions were incredibly horrifying. This place needs to be shut down, and the animals need to be removed before they are all dead. I am NOT a bird expert nor a vet; however, I do have the BASIC knowledge of bird care. I wish I could say the same about the owners of this place! They don't have a clue nor do they care about the birds they sell. I hope the owners read my review, so they can be educated about birds. But I guess they would have to first care about the birds they sell... I wanted to "test" the owners on how much they know about the birds they sell so I told the female owner I didn't have any knowledge & if she can educate me. She FAILED MISERABLY! The owner said, "Birds are like humans - you have to feed them & give them water. If they stop eating, making noises, or shows signs of being sick, then they are sick. You give them seeds to eat, but it's too much protein, so give them peanuts and sunflower seeds as well." (Aren't peanuts & sunflower seeds giving them MORE protein? How does this make any sense?! SMH) When I asked her if the birds were tested for diseases such as, psittacosis or PFBD, the owner looked at me like a deer in the headlights. She had NO CLUE to what these highly contagious diseases were nor had she even heard of these diseases! One would think a pet store owner would want to sell healthy birds to customers! Her response: "The breeder knows if the birds have diseases or not." (Yes, because breeders aren't greedy like pet store owners! SMH) 1st of all, birds are NOT like humans! They have a VERY SENSITIVE respiratory system. Using every day household items such as candles, nonstick pots & pans, griddles, oven liners, self cleaning ovens, Febreze, etc. are toxic to birds due to their highly sensitive respiratory system. (Febreze even warns consumers to NOT use their products around birds!) Nonstick cookwares coated with PTFE are extremely dangerous for birds because they release toxic fumes when overheated. The owner did NOT mention anything about the dangers of every day household items. This is a VERY CRITICAL & IMPORTANT information to educate customers who are interested in purchasing a bird!! 2ndly, it's a natural instinct for birds to mask their illness. This is because they live in flocks & this is how they protect themselves in the wild. If one shows signs of illness, the flock will kick him/her out & s/he won't be able to fend for him/herself, hence the reason why they hide their illness. They will continue to eat, play, & act normal. Once they show signs of illness, it's often TOO LATE to get help. In order to tell if a bird is sick, you need to look at their droppings daily & notice any sudden changes with color, consistency, &/or odor. 3rdly, an all seed & peanut diet causes nutritional deficiencies & excessive fat, which can lead to serious health issues like obesity, fatty liver disease, heart disease, and a weakened immune system. A seed-only diet also lacks in essential vitamins & minerals, such as Vitamin D & calcium, leading to metabolic bone disease. Other problems can include poor feather quality, reproductive issues, & a reduced lifespan. Peanuts can harbor fungus which can lead to severe liver damage &/or aspergillosis - a serious respiratory illness that can be fatal! Pet birds should be eating a pellet diet. This has been has been scientifically proven & certified by avian vets. Pellets provide complete, balanced nutrition - ensuring birds receive necessary vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. For some reason, the owner of the store believes that pellets are only for birds that are weaning off formula! When I told her about my research, she told me that the seed companies does their research & knows what's good for birds! (That's like saying McDonalds food is healthy for us, otherwise, they wouldn't be selling it! SMH!) The owner also said that her store has been there for 20 years & she knows that seeds are what they should be eating! (Being there for 20 years doesn't make you knowledgeable on what birds should be eating! It makes you look greedy since you haven't learned, or even TRY to learn ANYTHING in 20 years - just how to make $$$ from selling birds to inexperienced customers!) 4th, the owner didn't talk about the importance of toys for birds. The birds they sell there doesn't even have toys in their cages! (How greedy & cheap can an owner be to NOT put some toys in the cages?!?!) Toys are crucial for pet birds because they provide essential mental & physical stimulation, & prevent boredom. Lastly, the owner uses corn cob litter in the cages. Corn cob litter can cause intestinal blockage if swallowed. They are also prone to bacteria & mold growth which can lead to various infections &/or aspergillosis. The companies have a warning label stating "DO NOT LET ANIMALS CONSUME" PLEASE, PLEASE, be a responsible pet owner & do your research BEFORE purchasing any pets! Obviously, pet store owners are NOT reliable sources as they are only in it for the $$$! read more

i came in three days ago to purchase a parakeet as a friend for my existing parakeet i had at home. came home today to find it dead on the floor of the cage. the wings were clipped and the poor thing looked emaciated. i should've went right back the moment i noticed how skinny he was. really sad i had to write this, i usually never review places and have even bought from here many times before for my fish tanks. safe to say i cant return knowing the condition their parakeets are in. attached is a picture of the parakeet i purchased from them the night i took it home. you can see the 3 foot cage he was kept in with my other parakeet is large with lots of toys, and plenty of food and water. i can only hope that this will not infect my other parakeet, and that other bird lovers who would like to purchase birds go to another place. absolutely devastating thing to come home to. rest in peace juvia :( read more

I love this pet store. It has been here for ages! They have everything you need! Yes, they may not say hi or whatever as soon as you walk through the door but I don't care. What I care about is that they have what I need and at a reasonable price. I recently purchased a rabbit and the cage already hooked up with everything it needs! The staff was friendly and they answered my questions. I came back again to purchase more supplies for the bunny and I will continue to come back to support this local little spot. While they do have an ample selection of fish, and their customer service was ok I do have to say that the fish I brought into my tank had ich. As a result, 2 of my large (6 inches) didn't survive. We also got 2 algae eaters and only one survived. So just be careful when introducing new fish to your established tank. read more

This place is your local pet shop store, specializing in aquariums, fishes, and all of your swimming pet's needs. They also have small critters available, like misc. hamsters, mice, rabbits, reptiles and birds. And all of their foods, cages and other needed accessories. Place is fully stocked, along with a wide variety of fresh water, and salt water fishes to choose from. Great place to come to for your fishy' s needs, just wish the owners would lighten up a bit and smile from time to time. It makes the customers feel unwanted and unappreciated, but they do say thank you when you pay. So I don't know if they have a history of being robbed or what. This place does have good prices on fish and feeders but I think it needs to be made aware that they open and close and hour earlier than online and the sign on the door states. I have come here multiple times now to the lights completely off an hour before opening and an hour before closing. Cool little mom and pop pet shop tucked away in a strip mall next to Domino's and a cleaner. It's your typical LPS with mainly aquarium stuff like fish, tanks, accessories, and food. They also have rodent and bird stuff too. I found this place while waiting for my sushi to go order next door. The irony is getting some fish for dinner and coming home with a live one! I love their betta selection. They've got a variety of colors and fin types for $10. And I'm a sucker for bettas, so there you have it. I shared with you all my secret little pet shop. Totally drivable from my parents' house and runnable too (albeit took me about 40 miles to traverse the 4 miles). read more

I love to come here! We love getting our fish and fish supplies from here! They have really beautiful fish, and lots of different types to choose from. One thing that I love about this store are the birds. Every time I go I love to visit with them. They look so healthy. They look sweet and smart as well. I asked the owner how they do it, and he said they change their food and water daily and often clean the cage. I plan to go again back tonight to adopt a parakeet. I can't wait! read more

I was wrong. They where right. I did not see any snails in there tanks. I found out sometimes they get fish from the distributors with snails. I was just unlucky and got snail eggs from the store. If I could leave -0 stars I would. I bought a canary from this pet shop a year ago for Mother's Day. First it did not sing. Most petshops usually guarantee that the birds would; (For instance Mexican owned pet shops). Aside from that, it started growing tumors all over his body. They do not sell quality birds for the price they're selling them. Poor breeding. Would not buy an animal here again. It's sad seeing my bird suffering due to all the tumors. I've looked into it and it just comes down to low quality breeding. Nothing can be done. Would NOT recommend this place. Horrible breeders. read more

I've been coming here for about a year now since I had to start taking care of my kids bettas... I have since got bit with the MTS (multiple tank syndrome) and have been coming here almost every week. They have alot of varieties from Central and South American cichlids to African Cichlids to Kois and Arowanas...did I mention they also carry Saltwater fish? From Clowns to Damsels to puffer fish...theres always something new everyweek... which has me coming back for more. The staff is great! They greet you when you walk in and dont pressure you into anything. I've walked the whole freshwater fish section 3 times trying to narrow down my purchases before they would even ask if I needed help...and I prefer that. When I'm ready, I can always flag down one of the staff and they will immediately assist me. The prices here are hard to beat! The same fish I've seen at big box store and other local fish stores...are less expensive here. I've seen them put their fish on quarantine or "hold" while they put meds on the new arrivals so I am always confident in what I buy from them. I've gone to other stores and while the stores may seem "nicer" with their decor, this mom and pop shop has the cozy feel and great selection of many animals. I can spend another set of paragraphs just to explain the OTHER HALF OF THE FLOOR...with their bunnies and rabbits...snakes and mice...bearded dragons and sulcata tortoises! They even have tarantulas and scorpions! The point is...whatever you may be looking for...Hacienda Aquatics probably has it! read more

Horrible tank conditions. I bought 2 Pearlscale goldfish here, and I realized they were sick while I was getting back, with blood in their gills! I tried to treat them with methylene blue and a variety of fish medicines, but they still died a couple of days later. I saw several guinea pigs in their store, and some of them were missing fur, and appeared to be wounded. Some of the tanks are overcrowded, which can lead to stress for fish. There are also birds in cages, which is damaging to both the birds' physical and mental health. This place should be closed! They take terrible care of their fish and animals. I would not even rate them at all i would rate them a 0!! I bought a guinea pig today and notice she had several cuts on her and she had fleas!! When i walked into the store it smelled and there was flys all over and the cages were DIRTY!! They had the guinea pigs all together big and small and they should be separated and gender because they will fight with each other. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SHOP!!! I feel bad that people are rating this place so low. Let me breakdown the store for you: -The staff were incredibly friendly. -The tanks and betta cups had clean water and looked taken care of. -The prices on some rare products were low! Definitely come here for that. Most private fish stores are a little grimy. Nothing really stood out bad here. As far as the non aquatic pets, they really should use that space for more fish. But they sell nice snakes and live mice to feed them with. The birds are low priced, if you're looking for one. Please support your local fish store! Sub par lfs. Though it is a good sized store the selection of fish is quite average. Nothing you couldn't find at any other common fish store or petco. But what brings the rating down on this one is the quality of fish and customer service. Or lack there of. There are many dead fish to be found in the tanks and the ones alive are in questionable health. And as for customer service the employees ignore you as you walk past and only offer assistance if you confront them yourself. And when they do talk to you they have no enthusiasm or kindness to speak of. I would recommend passing this location by and travel down the road to ck fish world where they have better selection and better customer service. read more

I am bumping 1 star for Hacienda Aquatics since my last review because they do try hard (most of the time) I will give them that, but hopefully they do something about sanitary practices and also to quarantine the sick/dying animals. I understand how frustrating it may be to lose profits, but please dont sell sick animals to your customers, we choose to be here to support YOU, we can buy our fish and supplies at any number of other stores. read more
