This store should be reported and shut down. It looks like a hoarder lives in it. It is a fire hazard and the person that owns the store is so wrong so rude it's incredible. I went in there one time and I actually walked over something on the floor and I told him he really needs to clean this place up because it's a fire hazard, lurk and he started cussing at me and told me to get out of his store. He's very rude. He's very messy and somebody really needs to do something about this store. I'm not trying to get the man's business shut down but I'm trying to get him to clean it up and be better to his animals and I hope somebody in the health department and animal control looks at this store because it is disgusting.And his animals are not in good health. If I could give less than one star I would. I dislike when people say that, but this place should be shut down. Algae ridden aquariums. Reptiles without light or heat and cramped in overcrowded "tanks". Enclosures covered with old merchandise, so you have to took around the merchandise to see the poor animals. Everything is covered with a thick layer of dust and as you walk in, the smell of ammonia, and cat or rat pee hits you immediately. Very shameful inhumane conditions. Honestly, I'm not too happy with the fact that we came here wondering what light to get our snake for proper lighting and instead he told us to return all our pets to the stores we got them from ant to buy from him instead, claiming his prices were cheaper, but when I asked how much he was charging for some of the things he was chargingmore than he had originally said he was charging we were never going to return our pets in the first place but the fact that he was telling us to return them and telling us he wants to charge us way more is just absurd and the whole time he ridiculed me in my wife for what we have for our reptiles. read more

I used to visit this place 20ish years ago to get supplies for my bearded dragon and python. Now I'm all grown up and my kids caught a gopher snake and decided to keep it for a while. I looked around a bit for reasonably priced terrariums etc. and to my surprise Goldfish Plus is still around. A little messy, but very friendly staff and the prices are right. read more

Avoid at all costs. All the other one star reviews are correct. Not sure how this store is allowed to operate. You can't walk down any of the aisles because there is old products stacked up to the ceiling. Apparently they expanded to the adjoining store at one point for more room and it's filled to the ceiling with random stuff. Everything is covered in inches of dust. The animals do seem to be marginally taken care of but some crowded into tanks (like 12 medium size corn snakes all in a 20 gallon), which are either stacked on top of each other or just on piles of paperwork. Employees can't even go behind the counter to ring you up, because the counter is full of years of old mail and behind it is even more dusty stuff. They really should be shut down. Some fish cannot even be seen through the algae infested water. They are way too many reptiles in the tiniest aquariums. The isles are way too small, crowded and piled up til they almost hit the ceiling. It's the most uncomfortable business I've ever walked in to. Called Goldfish plus to inquire about a salt water star fish that I received as a birthday present from Goldfish plus. Do to the fact that I have never own a saltwater tank I called to ask some questions. The person who answered the phone was extremely rude, disrespectful, and did not want to answer my questions. He stated since I had not bought any salt water equipment from him he was not going to help me. I told him I didnt own any salt water tanks and he stated, "That's not my problem." My experience here is really hit or miss; mainly miss. I've come by here a few times already, and each time I lose the urge to come back. My first time here was with a buddy of mine, since he only lives a few blocks away. Before entering, he warned me about how compacted the store was, and that maneuvering around the store was an issue. When we walked in, I immediately understood what he meant. The store is a mess. Before walking in, there's literally a garage sale of fish tanks on the curb. These range from new to used, in a variety of sizes. Upon entering the poorly lit store, you have to step and walk around stuff. What really amazed and saddened me at the same time, was the lack of care for the animals in the store. In a single aisle, there were fish tanks on the shelves, and rats, snakes, and lizards, laid throughout the floor in cages. Rabbits and guinea pigs cages were also stacked everywhere. You could walk into an aisle and unknowingly end up next to a snake by your foot.... pretty scary actually!! In terms of customer service? "Meh. I've experienced better." The owner, or the guy who seems to be the owner, could show more interest to the birds chirping outside. I asked him about a few things on freshwater parameters and different fish, and seemed to only blow me off with short ended answers. What was actually kind of sad was that, on another visit to the store, an employee actually was more informational in terms of helping me out. He shared a lot of his insight with me and my buddy and helped us with a few things. Sucks that these employees actually care more to be there to help than the actual owner. Definitely wouldn't be coming back here anytime soon, there's clearly no reason to do so. Unlike the Bay Area, LA has the luxury of having so many LFS (local fish stores), so why return here? read more

I went in to get some advice and look around... He has nothing positive to say. He was saying everything opposite of what i learned in the reef/marine/freshwater hobby. He asked what i used to set up my tank and then after explaining everything to him he just simply said "you're so screwed" then laughed. Fast forward two weeks, my problem went away without any damage to livestock so apparently i wasn't "screwed". He sounds like he knows what he's talking about but he really doesn't. He claims that he doesn't use medicine in his tank but if that's actually the case then how do you treat for parasites or sick fish? are you selling sick untreated fish for people to take home?? On top of that his store is a absolute mess, things are piled up to the ceiling with no organization or no room to walk and the store smells horrible. This is a place for new people to go to and get taken advantage of and its really sad, I seen it happen first hand. I highly doubt there is any mildly experienced fish keepers shopping here. read more

I bought a fish and it died two days later I took it back to the store, Peter tested my water he said my PH and ammonia was high. He explained to me how to fix this issue. I went back the next day and gave him a water sample and now the water was good. He ended up giving me another fish and it was very nice of him to do that for me. Rarely fish stores take care of the customers this way. I am appreciative. I highly recommend Goldfish Plus. read more

So, here's my rationale... I waivered between 3 and 4 stars. First impression: Seriously Old School LFS vibe... looks just like the photos and low ratings I was reading about. Packed to the brim with product, algae in the tanks, dust in the shop. It's called Goldfish Plus... do they sell goldfish here? (they actually do, but they're at the back of the store, and TBA much better than some of the crappy ones out there.). Went back twice since that experience... Why? I've been in this hobby for decades, so I'm not deterred by appearances. Peter (the owner?) is really nice and quite knowledgeable, and you can tell he's seen a lot in this hobby. He does what works for him, like everyone else in the hobby. Here's my lowdown: I did see some fish being medicated (which I've seen in EVERY LFS I've been to, in addition to casualties from new shipments!). Yes, there is algae in the tanks (not aesthetically pleasing, but not necessarily a sign of harm either). Quite a limited fish selection, but some great prices. They have return clientele (you can tell when the regulars walk in...what does that say??). In addition, in the three times I've been there, there always other customers... Wayyy too much product (supplies like food, medication, heaters, pumps, etc.) for a shop this size.... (a plus and a minus depending on what you're looking for...) I've only lost one fish from him (a neon.... Hello people, this is a species known for dying from the slightest stress...)... whereas I've lost about a dozen different fish from what I would call a stellar LFS, CK Fish World, (so therefore can I judge?? NO.) He's got some cool clownfish (not doing marine, but they're nice). TBH, if you're looking for a pet snake, I'd recommend this place. If you're a first timer to aquatics... IDK... it can turn you off, but at the same time, there's a lot learn here and the information is fairly no nonsense. It depends on your expectations. I will continue to go here along with CK (the sparkle and shine of what an aquarium can look like, but only for the seasoned aquarist, but even then, I've been BS'd here) and even Petco/Petsmart (they don't know much but you can't beat the warranty). They're just different from each other, each with it's own pros/cons. read more

Peter is awesome! I have been coming here from time to time in the past year or so. He has things that you wouldn't think you would ever need for your fish tanks/ponds that you would ever think you'd need until you need it. I found him because one day when we had blackouts, my pond's aerator and pumps were not on so I ran to his store and he had emergency battery operated air pumps. Good price and he saved my fish. I went to him last week because my new pond PH was bouncing all over the place. So he tested my water and set up a plan for me with products. And sure enough the water now balanced itself out. Sure the store isn't fancy like petsmart, but when you go to petsmart you go to a store that is bigger and charges nearly two, even three times the price on things and may not even carry items that are outside of just the basic necessities for startup tanks. Peter pretty much has everything. And when it comes to his fish selection, I'd say his prices are fair for some species depending what you are looking for, but he does have quite a selection compared to big chain stores. read more

This place is amazing and so is the staff. Christian and Peter are always quick to help me out as soon as I walk in the door. People complain about the clutter. Who cares. Ask them what you're looking for and they find it in under a minute. Have bought various reptiles and fish from them and nothing has died. They have snakes, beardies, fish, turtles and various other things you need for your pets. This place beats the big chain stores by far. read more

First I do want to say the owner is knowledgeable about the animals and products he sells. His fish look healthy and he does sell good water for your aquarium by the gallon. His live rocks, corals, and sand are a bit pricey. But are still in good shape. BUT... The place is cluttered and dusty and some things look like they're in a disarray. This is the reason why I am giving this place a 2-star rating, otherwise I'd give it a 3 or 4 if the customer service was better. The owner can be a bit rude and often times is a complete douche-bag. When you try to talk to him or ask questions he sometimes just keeps walking and talking at you as he walks up and down the aisles. Doing whatever it is he thinks is more important than really stopping to help out a customer. You have to follow him or else you have to repeatedly ask him what he just said. Which clearly irritates him and makes the experience even worse. Like it's really your fault he walks away from you and doesn't speak up very well. One time he was massaging this really obnoxious woman's shoulders when I was standing there waiting for him to help me. He even brushed me off when I tried to approach and ask for help. I remember another time I brought a friend of mine there with me so that we could get supplies on our salt water tanks. He gives her a discount and a better deal than me because she was Asian. Asian community typically only likes to help out or give better deals to other Asians (especially if they're from the same country or speak the same language). I didn't say anything about it, not exactly knowing what to say or do about the situation. Honestly, what do you say to someone who gives a better deal to someone you came in with because of their race? Owner can be a little bit weird in combination with being a rude jerk. If you can put up with the service that is often bad or off putting at best. Go ahead and buy your supplies from here or even ask for advice on what to do or how to take good care of your animals. If you want good service to go with your aquarium supplies, I'd suggest looking elsewhere. read more

I felt claustrophobic and was afraid I would either trip on something or have it fall over on me. If you can make it past the products cluttered outside of the store then you might be able to walk a few steps inside where there is a very bad hoarding problem of inventory. You can barely walk down the aisles to look at fish or animals. I've never seen a retail store this messy in my life. I was looking to start a saltwater tank again after having some years ago. I couldn't even look at the saltwater fish due to the stacks of boxes in the way. The aquarium they showed me was dirty and looked used. My friend lives nearby and was worried of his young daughter getting injured inside of the store. He actually scratched his leg on a metal cage in the aisle. I personally wouldn't purchase anything from this store since it seems very messy and un-kept. read more

Like many other reviews, it is definitely on the cluttered side (at least at the time of this review) and it is definite not the pet store you would go to in order to gaze at what is available. I was curious about the shop and saw it open when passing by. The first thing that I noticed was the smell. Very strong odor of decay or something. Expired products, dusty shelves and very crowded. The fish looked overall okay, I can't say for sure on the reptiles. I'm sure the owner is a great individual but regrettably, the appearance of the store, broken tanks, clutter and crowded enclosures, doesn't encourage confidence in the quality of animals and products. From the first day I went to goldfish Plus and met Peter the owner and operator. I was impressed he offered services such as not only being able to sell you a saltwater tank but to setting it up from Sam salt and water to a actual saltwater aquarium. From store my apartment upstairs, he's very knowledgeable assistant Christian assisted me and setting it up( actually I only watched) . It is a 65 gallon tank that's a lot of extra hustle and muscle to go from parking lot upstairs with 65 gallons of water and rocks and sand. Extra thank you Christian much appreciated.
