This is long overdue, but wow, could I not have gotten a more cozy spot for my birthday. Corey and his partner were so welcoming as soon as we got to the property. They showed us the layout of the facilities and our room. We were there in December so we really enjoyed tiled floors that were warm. Not to mention how nice it was to look at the stars from there and having access to a private hot tub. I had mentioned to Corey we were there for the night celebrating my birthday and to my surprise I was treated to a delicious slice of cake they had for NYE (that day) and treated me to a morning slice since we'd be headed back home that evening. By the end of our visit we felt like we'd become friends with Corey and his partner and can't wait till we're back in the future to visit our friends at Hacienda del Sol again. read more

First, it's off the beaten path which is nice for a quiet and relaxing experience. However, it all depends on who your neighbors are. We had pot smoking ones next to us that smoked so much it filled our room at all times of the day, night and wee-early mornings (like 3am). They also played loud music from their car that could be heard at 1am. We let management know but never got a response until they called us on our way home to ask if we stole one of their pillows from the bed (that we had put on a shelf in the closet)! It was a miserable 2 days in trying to get a good night's sleep or even some type of acknowledgment from the property about our inconsiderate neighbors. They just acted as if it never happened. Good luck to those that stay! May you have good neighbors! (BTW - we stayed on the main floor that had a walkout patio. You could also hear other neighbors walking above you.) read more

My mom and I decided to spend Mother's Day in Taos since she lives in Albuquerque and I'm up in Denver. This seemed a good halfway point. There are a good amount of options on places to stay in Taos. I wanted to be close to the plaza, and also not pay a fortune for a room. We landed here. Our experience was a delight. Here are some highlights and advice. Pros: -the room was darling. We stayed in the Cowgirl suite. It is an upper level room with a stunning view of the mountains. A large bathroom with a jet spa tub, a steam shower and gorgeous Spanish tiling everywhere. The room has a ceiling fan and an electric fireplace which both did work and the room temperature was quite comfortable. Two adorable chairs sat by the fireplace for us to sit and chat. There is a keurig machine in the room if you want coffee before breakfast, with creamer in the mini fridge! There was also an electric water kettle and amazing tea provided. Lots of towels were provided in the bathroom as well as a spare toilet paper roll. A bath bomb for the tub and nice large containers of shampoo and conditioner. -parking spots assigned to each room, so no fighting for a spot when you leave and return! -complimentary breakfast everyday from 8-9:30. Was I expecting bagels and cereal? Yes. Is that what they offered? No! Well, yes to bagels. There was local coffee from The coffee apothecary. Chocolate and regular croissants, bagels and English muffins. Yogurt and granola. Fresh squeezed orange juice, tea and water. Tamales, prosciutto egg muffins, loaded tater tots, scrambled eggs. Fresh fruit and avocados. It was quite the spread! We had the Chef, Corey, helping us out and he was so kind and attentive. It is a bed and breakfast so you sit family style with your neighbors and other guests. -There were lots of seating options for breakfast. You could sit in the main kitchen area or go around the corner to another area with a large table or even into a large seating room with comfy couches and a large dining room table. -lovely local art all over the main room, as well as jewelry to purchase from local artists. -a hot tub on sight that is very private and has a sign up sheet as well. -the owners are lovely, kind, and proud of the property. They've done a lovely job with the place. -property was very quiet and secluded and we felt very safe there. We even felt comfortable to leave some items in our cars overnight. Cons: I'll preface this by saying I have nothing negative to say, but these are things more to inform future guests what to expect and maybe curb any negativity. -parking is one car per room, or they ask that you park the second car at the Lotaburger. That parking lot is not visible from the B&B or very close- by that is mean you have to walk the property and down the driveway and around a fence. We brought two cars and were able to tandem park with the owners permission. Just ask, they are so nice. -parking is not always close to the room so you may need to haul your stuff a little distance, and in our case up some stairs. -if you forgot a toothbrush or toothpaste or anything for that matter, you will need to go out and get a replacement. It's not a hotel and you cannot just call the front desk to bring you whatever you want. You're on vacation though, in a darling little town and at a sweet B&B, so who cares! -breakfast at 8 may be late or too early for you, but they do provide you coffee in the room for that reason! -it is technically walking distance to the plaza, but it is a mile walk. We opted not to do that because we would then be walking around for most of the day and doing the mile walk back seemed like it would kill us. A short drive and free parking at the plaza made up for it! -The room is very minimalistic. I would have liked to have one art piece in the room, but perhaps they've had theft issues with that, so it's understandable. It's otherwise very calming and cozy in the rooms. I would highly recommend you come stay here. I know the price is steep, but it's a local couple running it and a small business on a beautiful property. Sure you can stay at La Fonda, but you miss the cozy vibe and small touches that make a difference when there are less rooms to clean and people who care about your experience. Also, you will not find that amazing breakfast anywhere else...COMPLIMENTARY! If you're considering Taos I suggest you give this place a shot. You will love it. Especially if you enjoy chatting with other travelers. Breakfast time was a joy talking to other guests and hearing where everyone was from and why they were in Taos. I have stayed here twice now. The first time was with the original owners. It was warm and cozy. It had an old New Mexico vibe I liked. I returned recently and it has been redone. It is more automated now. It is run like an Air B & B, a bit impersonal. The room has been redone with a minimalist approach, incredibly sparse, small with not even a chair to sit in. It made it quite difficult just to sit comfortably or even set something down. No artwork. I do think our room was one of the smallest. The breakfast was good and the owner very nice. They have redone the tile and it's beautiful! read more

Best place I've ever stayed in Taos! The room was so cute and even had a wood burning fire place. One of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept on with great pillows too. There's also a hot tub which is great for after skiing. Breakfast here was also AMAZING with made to order eggs, fresh fruit, and tamales. Truly a great place to stay! read more

What a nice get away in Taos! We loved the grounds, our room, the breakfast and being outside of downtown Taos. The staff was kind and the manager, Eve, was generous and informative. Hacienda Del Sol is right next door to Love Apple. We had reservations for dinner on our first night in town and as we walked by the restaurant on our ways to pick up some groceries we saw a note on the door that the restaurant was closed for the next two days because their hood was broken. We were so disappointed. When I spoke with Eve the next morning I told her about our disappointment. Later that afternoon we were reading on our front port and Eve walked up with the Love Apple menu and told us the chef was in the kitchen and would bring us dinner in the next hour if we wanted! Needed a super last minute stay (and I mean, calling this place at 10pm after driving from CO for the past 4.5 hours) right before they closed for the night. They were able to get me a room immediately and the price was not as expensive as I was expecting given the room. The room was so so clean, had AC, and the bed was extremely comfy. Incredibly clean spaces while also maintaining an authentic ambiance to the region. Breathtaking views from the property and plenty of places to relax on the property. Breakfast is available until 9:30am and I HIGHLY recommend waking up in time to make that. The woman who was in the breakfast area was the sweetest, most accommodating person and you can tell she really cares about making sure our experience was the best. We were married yesterday at Hacienda del Sol, and the ceremony, officiant, flowers, photographer and cake were perfect. With the gorgeous Taos mountains in the background, we said our vows. Eve made sure that our wedding went off without a hitch and is a lovely person. We stayed in the one bedroom casita and enjoyed a roaring fire in the kiva fireplace every night. Breakfasts were delicious with freshly squeezed orange juice and lots of yummy food from the stove. We will never forget our time at Hacienda del Sol. read more

My husband and two children stayed here. 30 minutes before my husband and I had to attend a concert, one of our children reported the shower knob would not turn off. Both my husband and I also tried to turn it off, but it was broken. My husband called the maintenance man on property, and he came to try to repair it. He offered for us to move to another room, but then we would have been late to the concert. He repaired it for it to break again in a couple minutes, while we were at the concert. He came again to shut the shower faucet completely off. When my husband and I returned back from the concert around 10:45 pm we were not able to shower. The kids had not been able to shower. The following morning, on our way to breakfast, my older daughter skid down the icy stairs and fell on her back on the stairs. My husband and I informed the maintenance man about my daughter's fall and he went to throw salt on the stairs. No one asked my daughter if she was fine. I also told the maintenance man, because there was no Manager there, that we had been inconvenienced with the broken shower the previous night and morning and asked if the owner could give us a discount on the room for the inconvenience. He said would speak to the owner. Days later, my husband received a $50 discount for not being able to shower at night and in the morning prior to checking out. I am disappointed that we did not have a reliable functioning room in the first place. When people come as tourists, they make plans and expect a functioning room. I don't know why the owner thinks that $50 compensates for not being able to shower while traveling. Another issue was that the cook made rude comments such as, "I thought is was already 9," and "Is it 9 yet?" Breakfast is served until 9. This bed and breakfast was a bad experience for our family. There was no host for this place being a bed and breakfast. read more
