I enjoy coming here because the food and service is good. Its a small restaurant and locally owned which is nice to see in Brunswick Maine. I normally grab a drink at the bar and sometimes dinner. The drinks are usually very strongly made so you may only need one! They are great with food allergies and conscious of your dietary needs which is perfect for me! Food is still the best but the prices went up a bit too much in my opinion. Seems like they increased about $3 a plate. House Margaritas are now $8.99. The food is fantastic but some of the seats are torn and basically the inside hasn't changed so I'm not sure what justifies that much of a price increase. We will still go because we love the food but maybe not as often. For example the special burrito that I like has gone from $9 years ago and now it's $15...just something to consider. The strawberry banana smoothies are the best I've had anywhere, the mozzarella sticks are weirdly good, the enchiladas and Mexican burrito are also flavorful. Unfortunately the fries are tasteless and the chicken strips are usually over cooked. Service: The staff is so friendly. I go here on a regular basis and the staff know me and my family. Unfortunately they are prone to making mistakes here. If you ask for something to be changed (for example taco with no tomatoes) there is a good chance that the kitchen won't listen even thought the waitress wrote it down and you'll get tomatoes anyway. They are kind about fixing their mistakes but most of the time I just deal with it rather than get my food after everyone else finishes. Went there for lunch with my wife,place looks nice and got some nice authentic Mexican decorations. Ordered the burrito and tostada combo and my wife got the chicken burrito. Food were delicious and very hot,it was so tasty and very well seasoned. I stopped in here craving a burrito and was not disappointed. It was late afternoon and the place was empty (3PM) but more people started coming in shortly after I was seated. It's nice to have a Mexican joint in Brunswick. The service was good and staff was young and somewhat inexperienced but very friendly and courteous. Something doesn't quite work about the atmosphere and layout of the restaurant. The food was typical American Mexican style entrées with much to choose from on the extensive menu. My family and I tried Hacienda Poncho Villa because I heard it was the best Mexican food in Brunswick. When we arrived place was packed - our party of 5 was crammed into a 4 top - so I was excited. We got the standard basket of chips and salsa. The chips were on the stale side and the salsa was pretty tasteless; regardless the 5 of us wiped them out pretty quickly. After 30 minutes of waiting for our entrees (several of the patrons that were there when we arrived still had no food) I asked for an additional basket of chips as I figured we were in for more of a wait. They were busy so I understood. Finally, after another 20 minutes we got our food. Unfortunately all of it was mediocre at best. We had the green chicken enchiladas, street tacos, a beef burrito, and the pork carnitas. Everything was on the bland side and the portions were pretty small. The corn tortillas served with the pork dish were inedible - straight out of the package, not even warmed over. I'm giving this place a 3 only because the food was at least passable. I'm sure the fact that they were so busy impacted the quality of their food but I have no intention of going back. read more

The yellow cheese is just canned nacho cheese. Chicken in the chicken quesadilla was unseasoned, tasted like boiled chicken.

I have not been to this restaurant since it was located down the road many years ago. Recently I have noticed the parking lot is generally full at this location and I decided to look them up on Yelp. The reviews were very positive and I decided to take the family out to dinner and give this place another chance. I really feel badly writing this review but our experience was very disappointing. The waitress was very friendly but was very inattentive. She ignored us for long periods of time as we sat with empty glasses and an empty bowl of chips. The food was bland at best and almost inedible in one case. My daughter's enchilada was full of large, raw hunks of onions. She said that she did not want to finish and that it was making her stomach hurt. I thought she was exaggerating so I tried it myself and it was awful. My order was incorrect and my wife said hers was not good. We all agreed that the side of rice and beans was the best part. To be fair, we did not complain and give them a chance to correct, but my family and I hate confrontation. To top everything off we were overcharged by $600.00. I am not kidding!!!! They were very quick to correct the mistake but it was pretty much indicative of our night. Based on the number of positive reviews, lots of people like this place. Maybe I just I had bad luck here. I went in cautiously optimistic. Havent had really good Mexican food in Maine and quite a long time. Our waitress was really nice. I Did not like that there were no prices for the drinks so I asked the price of the Margarita and she said it was 7 and change. So I ordered a strawberry Margarita which was very good and very strong. I only needed one and it was a good price. I had the steak fajitas which were really delicious. The steak was amazing very tender and they put a sauce on it that really was awesome. My husband had a fajita burrito which was also very good. The rice was awesome and the guacamole was amazing. I give the three stars for effort. Small place, friendly staff. The salsa was too salty and runny. The food is priced according to what I'm used to for Mexican food. The portions are generous. I got the tacos al pastor. I had to ask for fresh corn tortillas since they stuffed the tacos and heated them With the rice and beans making the tortillas soggy so that I could not pick up to eat. I don't like eating soft tacos with a fork. The pork was not really marinated and the pastor- which should be served with pineapple was not good. My husband had steak enchiladas and they were very average. The margaritas were watery and bland. Overall it was not a good choice for being on vacation with the vast choice of restaurants around! I have had good Mexican and bad Mexican all over the country! This was a bad Mexican experience! The "queso" is nacho cheese and absolutely not edible! So nasty I tossed it in the trash! It tasted as though it came from a giant can, certainly not queso or authentic by any means! Entree was not flavored, the "cheese sauce" on top was just shredded cheese. Really disappointed! Hole meet wall. An unassuming ragtag building in Brunswick now holds the best Mexican food I've eaten in Maine. Surprised that a little place here has great tasting Mexican food. Walking in it looks like a typical Mexican restaurant. Colorful seating with Spanish style music playing. The waitress was well informed on the menu and suggested to my wife the steak fajitas. Myself I took the steak fajita burrito. I'm too lazy to make my own meal. Lol. The chips and salsa were good. We ate them all. Didn't ask for more as to not fill up and miss out on dinner. Our food arrived steaming hot after about a 10 minute wait. Not to bad a wait for me. The rice and re fried beans were very tasty. The burrito was filled with steak, they didn't skimp at all. The steak was very flavorful and tender. It didn't fall apart but cut easily. Very very yummy dish. Overall we were both happy with our meals and the wait staff was great. It was cold and wet, a flavor of tequila would P have been nice. Hubby had the Nachos Grande..supposedly dripping with cheese and ground beef, sour cream and guac, beans and tomato. The ground beef was flavorless. I stole a few bites...and was very underwhelmed. Nothing had any seasoning. No the bland beef or the flavorless guac. It might have been fresh but even the offer of hot sauce would not have saved them. Asked for extra cheese due to the Nachos not living up to their billing on the menu. I am a sucker for a good taco salad. Crispy shell, fresh veggies, fresh refried and some spiced beef and cheese...topped with guac and sour cream....that was the dream. The reality...sent back to the kitchen after a few bites. Once again...learn how to season food! The beans could not be distinguished from the ground beef except for texture. The veggies were fresh and I really wanted to love it but it had nothing going for it. After being totally disappointed and still hungry (hubby offered more nachos but I felt bad eating his dinner) I gave them another chance. The chicken chimichangas are listed as an appetizer but work as a light meal. The chicken had flavor and the shells were crispy and light. Lots of cheese and light spice. The most overpriced, bland and sloppy Mexican food I've ever had. Taco Bell taste more authentic then this place. They take a burrito stuff it with whatever they have in the kitchen and pour sauce all over it so you get a nice soggy burrito with cold meat and funny tasting vegetables. But as I ran the mental course of our meals through my brain, I disliked every single thing that I received (as did husband) so I don't feel like I can give it an extra star just because I wanted to. For meals, we both did the pick two so that we could try 4 different items off the menu. For me, it was a chicken enchilada and relleno, and husb's dish was a steak tostada and a chalupa. Chicken enchilada needed more enchilada sauce, cheese, and flavor. Had a mild mexican flavor to the chicken but was otherwise bland. Relleno - maybe my own fault as I've never had one before - but not impressed, also was lacking flavor. Husband complained that both his chalupa and tostada were soggy and not crispy. The beans that came with our meals were too salty. I feel like I'm the odd review out on this one. But when I am pretty sure I could have easily topped this at home hardly trying with some homemade tortillas, refried beans from a can, hannaford pico, and a glass of $4 wine, why did I just pay $40 for this? read more
