I will not be returning and would recommend nobody else to unless you like to watch new hires be bullied and yelled at from across the restaurant. I was absolutely in shock after seeing a waiter (he has black hair, black glasses, and tattoos on one arm) bully a young girl who had been working for 3 days. He was yelling at her and complaining to us about how he's going to make her clean the floors and saying you can't train new hires if they won't open their ears and listen. In my opinion the new girl was the best waitress in that whole place!!! Somebody else said something as well and I pulled the girl aside and told her she doesn't have to put up with that. Whoever that guy is should be fired and I want to watch him cleaning floors while getting yelled at. The food was fine. read more

Excellent range of items for breakfast and lunch, and either served anytime from 6:00 AM. Daily specials are included which are lunch items during the week. Key ingredients here are exceptionally well trained staff who look after your every need, and often swipe away used creamers and napkins in a blink of the eye. Also, everyone should be made aware that if something isn't right - ask, and they will make it right just the way you want it. Same outstanding ownership for 25 + years. We arrived at 9:30 am on Sunday. The parking lot was full of cars and people waiting to be seated. We left. Will try another time.

This place was just lovely! The waitress was so kind and helpful in creating make-shift seating for us as they were full-to-the-brim. We had four people dining and each of us loved our food! If you're elderly and like bland, tasteless food, you'd give this place 5 stars. While the service was fast, friendly and supportive, nearly $20 for a taco salad that tasted like composted grits and tofu didn't justify it. When I asked for sour cream I was handed these indestructible, childproof squirt packets that couldn't be opened with a hand grenade, much less a hungry lunch patron. When I mentioned the poor taste of the salad, I was rewarded with, "Oh, that's because we get a lot of elderly and they can't take the spice." Gee, thanks. Would it have killed you to disclose that before I ordered, instead of after? If you had been honest up front, I could have ordered something else, instead of throwing away nearly $20. My husband and I stopped here for breakfast on a Sunday, Valentine's Day. They had a 30 minute wait. We decided to stay because the gave us a number to put in our windshield and they would come out to get us when our table was ready. They are enforcing social distancing inside the restaurant. Went to Hacker's Grill for breakfast yesterday. Got seated immediately. Got coffee and water immediately. Our waitress was very good. She asked all the right questions as though she knew what we wanted. We both had bacon and eggs. My wife had fruit and I had hash browns as a side. We ordered and we're amazed that 5 minutes later they brought our food. Everything was perfect and it was hot. They really paid attention to us. If you finished with a plate they picked it up giving us more room to finish our coffee and toast. Great breakfast and great staff. read more

I ate here with my family for breakfast on a Saturday morning, we only waited 15 minutes and the 4 of us ate for less than $10 each. My only gripe is that I felt really rushed. This place was recommended to us by a sales person in Costco (of all places)! The next morning, we made this a priority first stop and we're glad we did! Food...did not disappoint Priced...on point Quantity & Quality...5 stars Atmosphere...professional, nice staff; a little too warm inside tho so dress light! I had the French toast combo and it was heavenly. Haven't had French toast in a while so it was definitely a treat. My fiancé built an omelette: it was huge and packed with fresh ingredients. We both brought home our leftovers! I love that they have everything you could possibly want on their menu, including grits and even bread pudding! You should at least stop by once for breakfast and once again for lunch and check it out for yourself. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about Hacker's Grill. That can't necessarily be said about some folks passing through who got lost on their way to Scottsdale and thought this might be some trendy themed chain place. Nope, it ain't that - just a clean little dive where you can get an honest American meal without spending more than it's worth. Note well that word dive, that's not a disparaging word, some of the best food I've had from coast to coast is at local American dives like this. Most are old (which a few misinformed people associate with being "dirty") and most don't have the most polished (another word for pretentious) staff - they're just good people who come to work to try to do a good job and earn a living. I really wish that people who don't like eating at dives wouldn't go there and then complain about them; that would sure free up some room for us regular customers. Reading amateur food reviews is always a no-win situation because they rarely actually say anything about the food itself, but rather some perceived little owie that ruffled their sensitive feathers. For this visit I simply ask that you look at the photo of the hamburger I had for lunch today. If it looks good to you then maybe you will like Hacker's. If it doesn't look good to you, by all means save yourself the time and effort and go sit in the drive through at McDonalds. You have the choice of what to stuff into your stomach. I'm not into "gourmet" burgers with weird stuff on them or too huge to fit into my mouth. I also don't like the current trend of paying $12-15 for a burger at one of those new trendy chain restaurants that pretend they're not a chain. The burger served here is the perfect size and priced right at my comfort zone. And to me it tasted as good as it looks. My first reaction to being charged $2.75 for a Coke was that was too much but they are very generous with their refills here and you don't have to beg someone to top off your glass. So considering how hot and dry it gets around here the value for their drinks is okay. I'm not totally oblivious to places that aren't kept clean and sanitary and I've mention such things often in my reviews. Considering the age of the building I think they do a good job keeping the place tidy. Finally, the service. We were there at lunchtime and the parking lot was nearly full. Service was quick but not rushed, orders were entered accurately and someone checked on our table frequently. Every staff member I saw was very cheerful and upbeat and seemed to enjoy their job. Final thought: I got a kick reading some of the reviews that mentioned that Hacker's was "filled with locals", as if that's a bad thing. I don't have anything against visitors spending their money in my town but I do recommend that they bring along just a simple dose of common courtesy - people will treat you they way you treat them. A few-day stay in Apache Junction en route to Texas from California brought us to Hacker's Grill. Wasn't sure what to expect as it is a little place off the beaten path in an area that is a little less-than glamorous. A pleasant greeting started us off and good service followed. I ordered the french toast with scrambled eggs and hubs had the chicken fried steak and eggs. Hot, delicious, and plentiful enough to bring some back to the kids. Coffee was very tasty as well.
