Although the restaurant is cute, and service was amazing, the food was lackluster at best. The winner really was the blueberry pancake(s) which came in a stack of 3 large pancakes. Those were fluffy and hot with big blueberries, however, they were served with two small packages of fake butter, and they had been melted and reset. The potato's were soggy and tasted of oil with very little seasoning. My biggest heartbreak was the biscuits and gravy. The biscuit was dense and dry, and the gravy was a bacon based which tasted of that stale bacon fat flavor. I did see many things come past us, like a very stuffed omelette and a really good looking club sandwich with fries that the guest exclaimed were too hot to eat right away (in a good way). So I'm not writing this place off completely, again, staff was so sweet and the place is a place you would take your grandma too, so maybe we just didn't order well! read more

My boyfriend and I have been to this restaurant a few times because he doesn't live too far from here and we enjoy homestyle cooking for breakfast. I even brought my mom once because I enjoy their food. The restaurant is loud and it's a tight space, especially when they are full on the weekends, but again, the food is great if you're used to a restaurant that reminds you of "grandmas cooking." The service is usually a little slow (maybe they are understaffed?) but we've never had an issue with service before until today. The restaurant was busy, but not more busy it usually is. It took several minutes for her to get menus to our table, and then at least five more minutes for her to get a couple of soft drinks and a coffee. The food came out in decent time, but I had to ask for a refill several times and never got a refill. My biggest problem is when it got time to pay for the food. She didn't inform us that we needed to pay at the register, so we waited for several minutes before I walked up to the register. I waited for another server to help her customer, and then asked our server if we could split the check and she rolled her eyes, huffed at me and told me that it would take her several minutes to do that, and then walked away from me to do something else instead of getting our checks taken care of so the line of customers at the door could have our table. Highly unimpressed with the service today from the older server working the breakfast shift. I won't be back again, even though we enjoyed the food. read more

My gauge for breakfast restaurants is how good the food tastes compared to what I can make at home. Mikey's just didn't cut it. Everything was criminally under-seasoned and there were too many signs of cost-cutting-corners that came out in the quality of food and accompaniments. Greasy eggs, bland potatoes that had a burnt oil taste, imitation community syrup on the table, dry and flavorless french toast, and thin, cheap bacon that tasted like pure grease. Today may be the first day I've ever said "no" to bacon. Service was good, and without considering lack of seasoning, the food was well-cooked, but the food quality wasn't even up to par with the largest major 24-hour breakfast chain on every corner across America (which we avoid if at all possible). Disappointing, as we do enjoy greasy-spoon hidden gems, as long as the food actually makes us reminisce of grandma's cooking or those crispy-edged pancakes and fresh eggs fired up from camping stoves. Service is ok, the servers spend a lot of attention with the regulars, which I understand in a way. When new customers have to sit and wait for a server to come by while the food gets cold, that doesn't build new relationships on a regular basis. Great no frills diner. All of the staff were friendly and made you feel at home. My wife had the Belgian Waffle with strawberries and I had the half order of biscuits and gravy. My order was a huge biscuit covered in sausage gravy with 2 eggs and bacon on the side. (Full order gets you 2 biscuits). Very good and stick to your ribs. Some things at this restaurant are delicious but others I would recommend skipping. The #1 omelette (veggie) was amazing and I would give it 5 stars. The potatoes it came with were delicious as well. The toast however came out late and burnt. The biscuits and gravy were VERY bland. I do not recommend. The pancakes are very chewy/ rubbery but the taste was good. It seems that I have been corrected on the time of service at your restaurant, but still NUMBER ONE: I did observer that waitress over fill my glass of coke, because she shook her had off and then went behind your cooler thing behind the counter and assumed she wiped it off. But still when she brought to the table it was all wet on the outside. when I did wipe it off there was soda stains on the napkin and it was sticky. NUMBER 2: she did come and asked if we were ready to order and we said yes and then turned around to the table across from us and started to bus it. And when my partner did state only side of Hash, she did have an attitude when he did ask what was the difference between the two sizes. She did state in a nasty way "one is $9.00 and one is $5.00. She could of stated by saying one is half the size and describe the sizes. NUMBER THREE: I went up to the counter to pay and the waitress with glasses was taking my card for payment. I did complain to her quietly about the other waitress. She stated she was sorry and offered to get the manager, then the other waitress with the red hair went back and talked to whom ever. In every place I've lived and in most places I've visited I have had a knack of finding that simple basic family run homestyle diner where everyone knows everyone, the food is simple and good and the prices are fair. In Apache Junction Mikey's is one such diner. While the waitress didn't know us, of course, because it was our first visit it seems like she certainly knew everyone else. Despite not knowing us, she did make us feel welcome. The menu is more extensive than you would expect at such a small local place, but it's just about everything you could want. Being breakfast time my choice was a couple of eggs, sausage links and hash browns with sourdough toast. You can't ruin that, right? Okay, I've been to some places that actually manages to do so. Here at Mikey's it was all just like grandma would make in her own kitchen, nothing fancy or frilly, just eggs done just right, four huge sausage links (that was a surprise) and potatoes that I actually finished ... I have a reputation for never finishing my potatoes. The coffee is tasty and strong, the tables are clean, the prices are not only fair but on the low side and it's just the kind of place I want to make a regular stop from now on. read more

Always looking for real mom & pop diner type joints and we hit the Goldmine here. Decor...dated booths & tables with wall decor that is eclectic old and fun. Service... we were greeted by a very personable lady named Esther who treated us like regulars right off the bat! She had a genuine diner type banter with regulars who were there and kept us feeling like we belonged and weren't first timers. FOOD...traditional breakfast fare done better than most breakfast joints. The menu is pure Route 66 Americans food with lots of tweaks & twists! I had the #12 omelette and it was fantastic! This is a nice quiet diner. Looks can be deceiving. Many people would drive-by based on the outside of the restaurant and not give this place a shot. This is a nice little spot for breakfast. Curly potatoes! That by itself is worth 5 stars. But since this is a Yelp review I will add more content. Hubby had just finished the Lost Dutchman Marathon so we were hungry. The restaurants in AJ were all packed. So we drove and hubby found this restaurant on Yelp. It was right along the way we were driving, that NEVER happens. It was on the left side of the street. When I turned into the parking lot, I did not see it. Hubby spotted it and we parked. It is really a whole in the wall place. I LOVE hole in the wall restaurants. When one is hungry EVERYTHING looks and smells good. It was around lunch but they serve breakfast later on Sunday. I saw curly potatoes going with a sandwich, but I really wanted breakfast. I wanted curly potatoes! When the waitress came, which she was very efficient. This place was hopping so we took the table of the people who just left. The waitress cleaned the table, brought us napkins, utensils and menus. When she took our order, I ordered curly potatoes as an app. Then I ordered breakfast. The waitress said she would be glad to do it the way we ordered, but I could request curly potatoes instead of hash browns. Woo hoo! Save me on calories and carbs! Food came out and looked fabulous. My curly potatoes were perfect and tasted better than I had imagined. I shared some with hubby. Eggs were scrambled and looked light and tasted delicious. Mixed with the curly potatoes it was divine! Toast was toast. Hubby ordered a BIG breakfast with 2 eggs, 2 bacon, and 2 blue berry pancakes. The pancakes were made with real blueberries. Not dehydrated, or sugar soaked berries, just plain simple HUGE blueberries. Cooked just the way hubby likes them cooked just enough. I like my pancakes a little crispy on the edges. Hubby shared pancakes with me and YUM! The pancakes were huge too! Ok no pictures. I know, gasp. I know better than to take pictures first then eat. I did not. I ate then thought about pix.
