It's our first time here. Quickly seated, casual dining. The atmosphere has some 80s music, darker ambiance, not crowded but a fair amount of people. The wait staff was friendly and responsive. Our family rates the food: French dip #1: 5 stars (kid vote) French dip #2: 4 stars (my vote) Hackney burger: 3.5 stars (kid vote) Chicken Caesar salad: 3.5 stars (kid says it was a little spicy) Turkey BLT: 4 stars (adult vote) Fried onion appetizer: 3.5 stars (2 out of 5 people felt it needed some kind of seasoning, like truffle salt) Overall nice experience! Thanks for having us!

Half of us in the igloo.

This was the first time I've been to Hackneys in quite a few years, but we wanted to eat in the plastic igloos of the holiday for a some festive family fun. The dome itself was fun and decorated inside do a cozy feel, but we were a bit cold even though they do have two heaters going so we are with coats on. There were 6 of us, so it was also a little tight but it was about the experience, so we weren't too worried about that. As for the food, we ordered the onion loaf and potato skins that were both good just as they were in the past, but I do wish there was a sauce with onion loaf. Almost everyone got a burger of some sort, something they are known for, but I got the Hackney smash which is a slightly smaller patty and there are two. I wanted that to be better fo something called a smash burger it really wasn't. It didn't taste bad, but was definitely not a smash burger. Their fries are thin and crispy and I also ordered a cup of chili which was the best surprise of the night. It was meaty with a spicy back and came with all the extras on the side really tasty. Our waitress was extremely nice and attentive for the most part considering she had to come from the main restaurant to serve us, but at the end of the evening I'm pretty sure she forgot about us, but we sat in the dome for 15-20 minutes after we were done eating waiting for the check. My wife had to go outside and get someone. If I'm being honest that drops it down to more like a 3 and half stars, but overall everything else was very good so. Funtime do the family during the holidays.

I'm from the area. Brought my soon to be husband here for lunch. After we got our marriage license! We currently live out of state and got married in my hometown. Loved the chill vibe inside. We had a few beers at the bar. And I twisted my loves arm for the onion brick but we got the 1/4 which was just fine. I wanted the 1/2 one. I got the delicious hackney burger as usual! Love this local spot and the food! Great bar tender!

    Love the Igloo experience.

This was our third year eating in the Igloo, which is always a fun family experience However, we did notice that this was also the 3rd year that they did NOT bring more french fries when we asked. They advertise unlimited french fries. They bring an average size plate of fries, and every year we have requested another plate, and they have not one time brought it. I wonder if they "forget" on purpose. When we mention it, they always apologize but still do NOT bring another plate to make up for "forgetting". Disappointing. Not sure if this is on purpose or not.

First of all understand when you get here you can kiss your dieting goodbye But you will have a great time. I started off this Black Wednesday night visiting my friends in the north burbs of Chicago and people like this place so I went. This place has been here before my grandmother was born The famous hackney onion rings had to be ordered. I'm don't want to know about my sodium level. The onion rings look like they could be a cake My friend had a hamburger and I had the ribs. I think there is a hospital nearby which is good considering the menu. I am kinda joking. They also have a salad should you wimp out and not want to consume 2800 calories every half hour

onion rings appeared to be the "bottom of the barrel" burned/hard, not fresh at all and the stinky oil was nauseating. Burnt pretzel bun

pick up order 6/23/25 Disappointed again, this is the third "pick up" order that has been bad. As soon as the package was delivered to my car, the smell of "old grease" was almost nauseating. The pretzel bun was burned on the top and very soggy on the bottom, the burger was extremely well done, dry and pretty tasteless. I may eat "inside" but won't order a take out any more. So sad

The store is brightly lit and clean (almost sterile feeling) when you walk in, with plenty of tables for dine-in eating. There is a counter to order with menus on the wall. The menu is simple and straight forward, you pretty much have burger, chicken sandwich, or wings. They also have a boba menu with many flavors and they have a soft serve ice cream machine! My partner and I had stopped in for a late lunch/early dinner and we dined in. The gentleman who took our order was very kind and as it was my first time in, answered all my questions about the menu as I ordered. I got a chicken sandwich (but without whatever their signature spicy ... addition? topping? seasoning? is) and a strawberry boba. My partner got a ghost burger, loaded fries, and a pina colada boba. We grabbed a table to wait and the boba came out first. These are super delicious, I've never ordered a boba anywhere else and had it come out like these, but they are like blended and creamy and also some of the best "popping" or "tapioca" additions/mix ins that I've ever had. I went back the next day to get another strawberry boba it was so delicious. The food here is over the top good. The sandwiches and fries come out loaded and messy and in huge portions. The chicken sandwich is so moist and tender, they are definitely frying chicken right here. The house sauce is tasty, flavorful and not too spicy. Neither of us were able to finish our orders here (you really get your money's worth!) but we left stuffed to the brim. I'm so happy this spot is within walking distance for me, I can treat myself to their delicious boba any time, and we will definitely be back for more sandwiches. Thank you, Sizzle! The main dining room has a view of the kitchen, and the second dining room is adjacent to the bar. I recommend the bar, as I am not a fan of open kitchens and if you are lucky you can get a table against the windows, secluded from the hubbub. It is a loud, energetic space. They have a solid cocktail program, particularly their riff on a Black Manhattan with bourbon and Demerara - a refugee from an Old Fashioned. I recommend swapping out bourbon for rye and holding the Demerara - its an excellent drink. A good collection of Italian and American wines. We ordered the Lemelson, a light bodied Pinot from Willamette Valley. It paired well with the lobster ravioli special and roast chicken. For food, we ordered the aforementioned entrees, and started with the meatballs and the beet salad. The meatballs were superb, flavorful and juicy. The beet salad was delicious, as were the entrees. Just a note, they have a very heavy hand with the sauces. The lobster ravioli came with a cognac cream sauce that painted the plate. It had much more tomato than I was led to believe but the dish was still very good. Kelly had the red wine reduction on the side for her chicken, and it was a veritable bowl of soup! The mushrooms are actually in the sauce, and it has a strong bitter flavor - I liked it but it was not Kelly's favorite. Still, a very good dish. We went light for dessert and had a scoop of gelato and a scoop of sorbet. They were both excellent. Service is friendly, the tables have plenty of space between them and the restrooms are accessible. No valet, but a free city lot is a short block away and street parking is available. Definitely worth a trip from the city.
