Good morning, my neighbors! Yeah I could've started this review off with any number of Coming to…read moreAmerica quotes, but I wanted to try to keep this review PG. Though really, there needs to be a little more focus on the whole point of this adventure and that was to eat at the one and only McDowell's! Okay, maybe there actually isn't a one and only McDowell's and the fact that a few friends and I had to drive to Cherry Hill, New Jersey yesterday didn't exactly make sense with the whole Queens aspect of the "actual" location. But even so, this restaurant pop up was still a ton of fun, and it all started as soon as we got there. The "employee" who greeted us was a barrel full of McDowell's info, asking us to make sure we knew the difference between their fast food setup and that other golden-arched location (ya know, because they have the golden arcs at McDowell's). Once inside, the setup was hilariously awesome with Cleo McDowell's office/desk (complete with burger phone and McDonald's operation manual), a Zamunda throne and flag, a setup of Akeem's apartment (damn shame what they did to that dog), and a couple of mops and buckets scattered about the place (Akeem's favorite). Beyond the photo ops, it was time to dive into the actual reason to come to McDowell's and that's to have the Big Mick! Remember, that's two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but McDowell's buns have no seeds. Pair that with some fries (a little skimpy on the amount) and a strawberry shake (not bad) and I had a meal fit for a king (of Zamunda perhaps?). I mean, truth be told, the food wasn't anything special, and though you might consider that a let down, it wasn't a massive one. Though that aspect, pieced together with the random rock and new wave pop being played instead of some Coming to America soundtrack music, could've set the mood a bit more. Having said that, the experience was still a blast. Plus, beer always makes things better. When you think of garbage, think of Akeem, but when you think of breweries, think of Josh G. (me) who was ecstatic to learn a local Jersey brewery (Forgotten Boardwalk) concocted up two beers specifically for this pop up. Setting up a nice little beer garden outside of McDowell's (complete with a massive Soul Glo bottle and ad) created a little bonus to the afternoon. Thirsty? If so you'll have the opportunity to buy cans (or a pint to go along with your meal) of the Queen to Be "Zamunda Style" Cream Ale and/or the Soul Glo Hazy IPA. I got a sample of each while at McDowell's (both tasted relatively solid), though full cans were purchased and shall be consumed at a later time. Overall, McDowell's pop up is/was pretty awesome. Even though the food wasn't anything special (seriously, I shouldn't have expected it would be) and perhaps the setup lacked a tad more tightness on all aspects of the Coming to America movie, the fun of getting to basically go to McDowell's for real was totally worth it. Seeing some "props" and hearing quotes being thrown around by people just added to the humor and joy of this event. So if you can grab some tickets and head to Cherry Hill, NJ in the next few weeks (it won't be here for long!) then you too can experience the Big Mick and McDowell's for yourself. As Akeem says to Lisa McDowell "No journey is too great when one finds what he seeks." You, my Yelp neighbors, should be seeking out McDowell's...now!

I am currently experiencing some discomfort my stomach and I am just utterly disgusted. Can you imagine traveling about 3 hrs full of excitement to come in and see no smiles hear no music. The whole experience was just dead. It's bad enough I promoted this event to friends and family, but I paid for two different tickets one V.I.P with the Magnum Mick and cake shake and the other a regular Magnum Mick. But, if I'm honest i would've been better off going to McDonald's and saving money. Atleast it could've been a fun experience. Please email me as soon as possible. Money isn't a thing when the experience is worth it. And this experience is not worth much.

It's $6 off bar menu items, $3 off cocktails and wine, and $2 off draft beers. Sunday through Thursday from 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM. At the bar, we enjoyed the Filet Mignon Carpaccio, the Shrimp Spring Rolls, and we all shared the Homemade Gnocchi (Porcini cream sauce). Get the gnocchi! For dinner, we ordered the Homemade Lobster Raviolis, Penne Vodka (my love and I split this) and one of the ravioli specials. Everything was delicious. We sat at a high-top table in the beautiful bar area. It was lively and cozy. There was live entertainment but at a comfortable volume. The staff was very welcoming and warm. Even the food runners were engaging. A great time all around!

I do not eat seafood and was confused by the fishy smell and presence of meat. Luckily it was a simple cross-table mixup. Furthermore, the mushroom gnocchi was horrible. It was made with pure whipping cream, which is probably a valid Italian approach, but it had to have been 100g of fat, and it tasted like warm thick milk, with no flavor and minimal mushrooms. I felt sick to my stomach the rest of the night. The restaurant was packed and tastefully decorated. They have a great signature cocktail list but I couldn't hear myself or anyone at my table. Average decibel level was 85 through the course of our 90 minute stay. My ears felt raw once I got outside. Lastly, it's a mandatory (and complimentary) valet for parking. Just be prepared. If you like Italian, may be worth a shot. Folks were pleased with oysters and mashed potatoes at my table, but I have no desire to come back.

Half the fun is looking around and trying to figure out which movie or TV show inspired each decoration. Christmas music plays nonstop. There's a fixed drink menu and no seating, so it's very much a stand-and-hang-out kind of place. From what we heard, it can get pretty packed later in the evening, but we arrived right when it opened at 4:00 PM and had no wait at all. It ended up being a great place to kick off the night. The cocktail list is entirely Christmas-themed--festive and fruity flavors. The cocktails are served in Christmas themed vessels. If cocktails aren't your thing, they do offer beer and seltzer options as well. It's a fun, high energy stop that's perfect for soaking in some holiday spirit.

It was a super hot night out so we asked to be seated inside and they were able to accommodate us. Apparently inside seating is actually reserved for walk-ins so good to know for those who can't get a Resy! The food was good enough but I think the ambiance of the place and the amazing service really made the experience worth it for me. Definitely don't skip the hanger steak--it's perfectly medium rare and juicy. The tomato toast was flavorful but the toast was pretty thick and hard to bite into especially around the crust, although that might just be a me problem. I look forward to doing a walk-in to try their dessert sometime before the pop-up wraps up!
