I was driving from the Jersey Shore back to Texas and craving a good steak. I was going to stop at Emporia off 95 for the night but when I saw there was a steak house just 20 miles further down the road with almost a 5 star rating I put the metal on the pedal and kept driving. It was worth EVERY BIT OF IT!!!!! WOW!!!! This place has a full bar, NICE STAFF, GREAT SERVICE. Doug was my waiter and he was so nice! I ordered a 10 oz steak with a baked sweet potato and a side salad. I thought I died and went to Heaven. If you want a juicy great tasting steak get yourself to this amazing place! We stop in Roanoke Rapids twice a year when do our Snowbird trips. This was truly a great find. It was busy so we sat at the bar and immediately made friends with two other couples. I had the ribeye and my wife had the salmon both cooked perfectly. The house wine was fine and an excellent pour. They have a dessert " lasagna' I won't spoil it, just have it. Unfortunately, we believed the reviews on line. Sadly disappointed. We ordered steaks, and there is only a one selection based on weight. one was ordered medium well, and turned out small and burned on the edges. the second order was medium rare, and was accurate, but had an enormous amount of fat and vein structure. Totally gross. Potatoes were overdone so basically we paid $80.00 for a salad. Waitress was young and kept apologizing for the nasty, subpar and totally overprized meal. Anyone giving less than 5 stars is being super critical. This is a great dinner location. Servers are friendly and the food tastes great, reasonably priced. We had the scallops, ribeye, and salmon. Great salmon - with the vegetables I would compare this to a $30 entree! The dill sauce they pair the salmon with is a unique and nice touch, a little goes a long way. Defiantly will be back. I was looking for a place to have a drink and something to eat after a long day of work and found Haggerty's on Yelp. I was pleasantly surprised with the food, the service, and especially the "house" salad. A nice little place to grab something to eat even if you are just traveling through the area while driving up I-95. Very attentive bartender/waiter and as I mentioned earlier, the House salad is worth a visit in itself. Loved it. We had the rib-eye steak French fries and baked potatoe. Cooked great steak needed just a little salt but we were so happy with the meal. The jalopena popper appetizer was better then I expected we really enjoyed it. My girlfriend loved her sweet tea and the owner recommended the pecan pie desert which was out of this world. My husband and I just had an absolutely amazing meal at Haggerty's. Our waiter was Doug who could not have been more gracious. We both ordered cocktails, a Tito's and tonic and a Tanqueray martini - both were excellent. The house salad with all the accoutrements was delicious! We both ordered the surf and turf, me shrimp, my husband scallops. Both were fantastic, the steak was done perfectly, medium rare for me, medium for my husband, and the shrimp and scallops were tasty and juicy. The baked potato for me and baked sweet potato for my husband were just perfect. We topped it off with homemade German chocolate cake which was to die for. This is a MUST STOP off of I 95. I actually hesitated to write this review because I would like to keep this a secret - but I think it is only fair to the Chef and waitstaff of Haggerty's to let others know how great this place is. Met the owners John an Lisa and were two of the friendliest restauranteurs you'd ever meet. The food was delicious, one of the best steaks I've ever eaten. When a steak is so good you don't want to ruin it with steak sauce, to me, that's a good steak. I added scallops and my wife had shrimp. A speciality eat in restaurant like none other. The staff is A+++ and overall I give Haggarty's an A+++++. read more

Stopped for the night at the Holiday Express (very clean) and got a recommendation for Haggerty's. The front desk was spot on! First after a long drive up from Florida the dress was casual and very close by. We went with the ribeye steak for 2 on the bartender Shane's recommendation. it was cooked to perfection medium rare, the salad was a good size and fresh, the onion rings were fabulous and the baked potato steaming hot. Unpretentious, sure, but it was the best damn steak I've had in years. I ordered the 12 ounce ribeye rare and with scallops. The scallops were big and well-spiced. Good to support the "mom and pop" establishments. Restaurant not a chain and not too far from main strip from I95. Sat at bar (perfect) as there was an hour wait for table at 6pm. Same goes for my experiences w/other types of businesses. I'm just a private person. However, my experience w/Haggerty's Steakhouse warrants giving them public kudos. I live in VA, my mom and stepfather live in the Roanoke Rapids, NC, area. Various issues, the main being covid-19, negated visiting them for Mother's Day. Instead, we decided to gift them w/a really nice meal via a restaurant that provided take-out or delivery service. We reviewed restaurants on YELP and decided Haggerty's was the one, and that we'd order the "Combo Dinner for Two, 20 Split" for my mom and stepfather (the "20" referring to 20oz of steak). Besides sides, this dinner also included two skewers of either shrimp or scallops. But I was wary, it was a gamble dealing w/an unknown restaurant, long distance, w/o anyone I knew who'd eaten there, and with meat/seafood that need to be good quality and cooked right. END RESULT: from the start, placing and paying for the order in advance was easy, and the person I spoke with ("Lisa") was very friendly and helpful. My stepdad called in the order a day later, it was ready for pickup in 30min, and he said the people were really nice. Both he and my mom said everything in the meal was outstanding, well presented, and they'll be visiting Haggerty's Steakhouse in the (safe) future! read more

Stopped in Roanoke Rapids for night. Found this steakhouse on yelp! It definitely lived up to its 5 star rating. My husband was hungry and had rib eye potato and soup and salad bar. He was in food service management for over 40 years. He said it was was the best rib eye he has ever eaten. I was not so hungry so had value priced soup and salad bar. The lettuce was the freshest I have encounterEd in years. Great toppings, potato salad and lobster bisque. Our server, Stacy, was so friendly and helpful. She kept my delicious ice tea full and made sure I had plenty of lemon. This is a gem.. It is owner operated, not a chain. The owner visited with us to make sure we were happy. In town for our sons college lacrosse game. Looked on yelp for a good place to eat. Haggerty's was great! The food was excellent. I think what made the experience great was Becky, our server! She was awesome, with a great attitude and great personality. Was like going over to your families house for dinner. We didn't catch the owners names, but they were great as well to talk with. I am just lost for words honestly. Me and my girlfriend where otw to applebees, but we remember hearing about this new steakhouse. Ladys and gentlemen... I have eaten steak all over this state, and my god how blow away I am about the food quality, so tasteful, great atmosphere, good service. The family that has opened this really knows how to be simple, but also genuine genius. This is by far the best restaurant in 100 miles either way. I'm going to use this place alot more.
