I've seen Nhung now 3 times and she does exactly as you ask. I had been doing my own roots and all over color for years and decided to treat myself. Her shampoo was a 10 which is hard to find! The color was beautiful, even, and my hair was so shiny after the blow-dry. The cost was comparable or lower than other salons. Ikl say the good stufff first: my haircut wasnt too bad- mostly even from the back. I went in undecided about what kind of cut I wanted, and the stylist ( Wa ) cautioned against getting layers that wouldnt suit my hair texture. Great thanks for talking me off the ledge. It turned out *okay*. But not the quality and thoroughness I was expecting from this place. I could have gotten the same haircut for half the price elsewhere. I just paid $50 for a haircut I could have given myself. She did not fix my part before cutting my hair, so it wasnt precise as I was expecting from the front. She was rough with my hair (didnt detangle it thoroughly and through it quickly with a comb ), and I had to request to fix my part before cutting the hair that would frame my face (!) it felt a bit sloppy and rushed. After spraying it with a little bit of water and cutting it, she tossed it for around for "bounce" and left my hair frizzy. I had to *ask* for some serum or moisturizer. She didnt offer to blow dry or straighten. Even though my appointment started early, I felt like the stylist was in a rush. I paid 50 for a mediocre quality haircut. My hair wasnt in amazing shape to begin with and I hadnt cut it for over a year (i mentioned this) So I was really hoping for someone attentive, patient, thorough and knowledgeable about thick dry hair and was hoping to walk out leaving more confident. the haircut felt rushed and I left with frizzier hair than I came in with. This review is for Thao. I'm 8wks away from my wedding. I was a stylist for 22yrs and left the industry 3yrs ago, none of my friends were available and I couldn't go another day without a cut. We agreed on a shape, we agreed on long layers, we agreed on 2". She cut off at least 6", gave me a V, short layers, and disconnected hair. She charged my card $62. $26 for the cut, $20 for a "style" (my hair looked like you know what, frizzy and wavy, it was DEFINATLEY not a style) and $7 for a shampoo (uhmmm, what? Isnt a shampoo/blow dry always included? I've never heard of a salon where isnt not UNLESS otherwise posted). The rest of the money was a tip, I guess? I asked her for a refund and she said no. She said that it turned out that way because I have too much hair. She then told me to grow it back out and she would recut it for free. Then lastly she said i needed to come into the salon so she could wet it and see if maybe she did cut it too short. What?! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. One is a puc of me trying on dresses in august (curly hair is shorter than when you straighten it). Two are pictures that I referenced that she said were "easy". I once had my hair cut by Young when she was still at Regis salon. Although she did a good job on my hair then, that salon closed, so I wasn't able to locate her afterwards. I hopped from one hair salon to another, looking for the best, most consistent stylists. I found a couple, but those stylists weren't the amazing stylists I was seeking. After reading the reviews for Young at Hair 2000, I was reminded of her and of her service at Regis. I instantly scheduled an appointment with her for myself and my mom. Let me tell you this: Young is fantastic. She is knowledgeable, personable, and a master of her craft. I asked her A LOT of questions about my hair, my face shape, highlights versus color, products, etc., and she had sound advice and opinions to offer about each of my questions. She is patient and has a great sense of humor! I'm a big fan of her, and even though I will be moving away from this area soon, I will continue to come to San Jose just to get a haircut from her. Plus, she charges only $35 for a haircut, and she is a master stylist! Most master stylists charge at least $20 more than that! Young accepts cash only. An appointment is required! The other hairstylists here are friendly, too, and from my observations, they gave great cuts. The receptionist, who is an older woman, is really nice. read more

Lupe cut & colored my hair tonight and I'm feeling quite happy about my overall experience here. First of all, I was happy to get a 7:30 P.M. appointment since they were fully booked tomorrow because I have a busy party weekend out of town. She (Lupe) was so nice and schooled me on my hair which is just what I need to hear because I know it was drab, dull, and dry. She showed me how to take care of it to keep it looking as good as she made it look. For months I've put this off due to past bad experiences. Now I feel I've found someone I can trust. I went and saw Young awhile back during a quest to try all the highest rated salons of the area to find my favorite places. I arrived a bit early and had to wait while Young finished up with a client, but she was on time. Upon greeting, she asked me what I wanted to do with my hair and explained her cut process thoroughly. The thing though, is that she is very hair technical--inventive she is not. The cut was just okay, but the blowdry was the worst. She curled my hair with an iron and even some of my bangs. I thought I looked like a twelve year old asian bo peep. Even though conversation flowed freely, I did not bounce out of the salon feeling suave. Plus, as a first time customer, I totally felt like long-time ones had preferential treatment. Her prices had recently increased as well. Note, that she takes her own personal appointments as she just rents out a station. The salon is really basic and unremarkable. Not for me. read more

I've been going to her for 4 years, and I always get questions about where I get my hair done. First understand that there are a lot of hair stylist in this shop. After consulting with the person on the phone and expressing my preference I was matched up with Purdy. Positioned as someone that is experienced, flexible etc I decided to give it a go. I am not sure what she is experienced at, it was obviously not at cutting hair. After a botched hair cut, the shop did setup and have another stylist take another whack at it. I am not going to fault the entire shop as they did stand by the customer. I would however avoid Purdy. I have been seeing Linda Bernal consistently since 2000. She is fantastic! Over the years I have come in to have anywhere from hair coloring, updos, to regular hair cuts. I appreciate the fact that she will let you know if you might be making a mistake with a hair color or new hair cut choice. She has swayed me from making some mistakes by kindly suggesting another style or color. Her wisdom has never led me a stray. I just got back from an appointment with Tania. She was wonderful! She washed my hair, styled it and gave it a blow dry which cost me $38. Totally worth it, I LOVE my hair! I've been to a hundred salons and no one could quite cut my short hair the way I imaged it. Tania did it just right! I was also offered a cup of coffee which was crazy! :D I'd recommend making an appointment before you go, that way you'll just be in and out. And wow, she is awesome! thank you yelpers - you've saved my hair! Young is wonderful. Young and I talked about my style before the wash and she made some good suggestions. She's very knowledgeable about styles and what will flatter your face. Young has a really kind way about her, she made me feel welcome and was fun to talk with during the cut. The haircut came out fantastic! She was patient in explaining how to style it at home and wasn't pushy at all about products which I appreciated. The salon isn't fancy, it is clean and comfortable, but looks like something out of the 80s' . Each stylist has a separate station, which I like better than the hectic aisle of chairs most salons have. $35 for an excellent haircut is such a bargain, I will be coming back. Note: Young is also comfortable giving wilder / edgy types of cuts and didn't bat an eye at my freshly dyed fiery nuclear red tresses, which rocks! I usually get a haircut from Tania and if you ask me, Tania is the best! All the hairstylists are great ... However, from my personal experience, Tania rocks! She knows exactly what I want and the cut is not that expensive. She is a great listener too. The salon seems to be busy at all times and has a good mix of hair stylists. The shop is great and perfect for getting a haircut, super clean, and everyone is extremely friendly. One of the things I love is that she really listens to what you want. I've come in with some off-the-wall ideas and she takes the time to discuss the pros and cons of what you're looking for. If it isn't a good fit, she'll suggest something that will work better with your features.The bottom line is she won't let you leave the salon unhappy or not looking your best. I have been coming here and having my hair done by Kim Trinh for years now. She has done all of my 3 younger kids first hair cuts (they are 12,14, and 16) as well as get my 25 and 27 year old through their teens. When my husband had his tried and true Hairstylist move he became Kim's newest client. Now she does the whole family. She goes to hair shows to stay current on products and the latest styles. I met with Rita, the eyelash extension technician and showed her several photos of EXACTLY what I wanted. She agreed it could be done. Less than an hour later, I was so displeased with the outcome. The lashes looked cheap and thin. She proceeded to trim them to make them look more natural. She did not use the thick, individual lashes. For lack of terminology, she used store bought, cheap individual lashes. Horrible! I regretfully paid her. Once I got home, I just felt sick. I texted her and told her I still wasn't pleased with the outcome. She told me to come in and she would "trim" them down. After many texts, she told me I was too picky and that she didn't want to bother with me. I purposely came in wanting "natural" looking lashes. She didn't do her job! She also informed me that she would not refund my money. The ethical business standards of this individual are appalling. As an educated person, I would WARN every person to stand clear of this individual. I'm reporting her to the BBB. read more

So I went to Young again and she's still amazing. This time, I decided to cut my hair shorter. It's been a long time since the last time my hair was shorter than shoulder-length, so I was just a little bit shy about it, but again, she did it wonderfully! I brought some pictures of hairstyle which I liked. She took a look and recommended A-line haircut. The thing that I liked was since I've never cut my hair shorter for a long while she decided to leave a small bunch of hair around my face longer than usual, in this way, I don't have to feel "too different". Read some good reviews about this Hair 2000 and so I called and they're able to accommodate me in 30 minutes. So I get there, the front lady assigns Emma to trim my hair. I specifically said layer both sides. All she did was compliment my hair and layer the bottom part then said we're done. So I said, "can you layer some more?" Cuz obviously, I didn't see any layer. She cuts my hair again and says "done!" Awww, she shortened my hair instead of layering it. The worst part was she charged me $26 and to pay her directly! So I asked if they accept debit card. I am here to advocate for my stylist of over 14 years, Vanessa Nelson! I cannot believe I didn't post a review for her sooner. I just got back from my appointment with her and I must say, like usual I am feeling great about my hair. She is professional, has INCREDIBLY fair prices, and consistently does my hair well. Over the years, she has done a variety of cuts on my hair, color and highlights - she always listens to what I want and is able to visualize it without me having to stress about explaining it to her just right. She also can follow pictures if you bring them in. She is honest about what will look good on you, if you ask - but really, just does what you ask her to... WELL! There is a reason why I will not see anyone else as long as she is still working... I can depend on her. I've also recommended a bunch of my friends and co-workers to her, all of whom have gone to her and have had good experiences. Some continue to on a regular basis like myself now. As a result, I get compliments on my hair all the time. Linda gets ALL the credit. She knows how to pick the right shade for your skin tone and how to determine a style that will work best for you. She offers great suggestions on how to solve tricky hair problems with styling and product suggestions. And she helped me out quickly when chlorine turned my hair green! I hope she never retires. Tanya did refund my money when I requested although of course she was very defensive about it. I believe she was having an "off" day and she stated no one has ever been upset with one of her haircuts. Because I left town the day after my haircut I wasn't able to show her the hair and explain. I took pictures of it but she didn't have me send her them. I guess I really wanted her to see what she'd done!!!!! I don't think she believes she messed up! Almost a month later and it still looks just as awful. I did have someone offer to try to fix it but I don't want my hair any shorter than it is. If I wear my hair down I have to curl it otherwise you can see the uneven layers. Shorter in certain areas than others and further away from the bottom of my hair than requested.There are like random short pieces scatter through my hair like someone randomly snipped pieces out. So ugly. Also it turns out that the bottom is not an even cut either. Usually you get used to a cut after a few weeks right? Not getting used to this one. Or over it for months. Went with a special person to get a hair cut and eyebrows thread and it's seems like they do what they want. They don't do a great job. You ask them for a simple hair cut and they end up cutting it way much shorter then what you ask for. The worst thing about it is that the lady try to make her feel better by cutting her hair more and left it uneven. Also about the eyebrows they left each eyebrow so uneven which I know they are not the same but the lady made one much thinner then the other. read more
