They really take the time and effort to make you feel welcome. Wendi was very sweet and attentive. The whole process felt like minutes because I was enjoying myself so much. I really felt taken care of. I like that Wendi explained everything she was going to do before she did it so I wasn't left not knowing. I wanted to try getting my short hair cut by a new stylist and decided to go to diModa after I saw a few cute short haircut photos on their Yelp profile. I arrived for my appointment early and the stylist greeted me cheerfully and had me take a seat at her station. She asked lots of questions about how I wanted it cut to make sure we were on the same page. It was a Friday evening and there were no other stylists working, so the salon was nice and quiet. The place was very clean and decorated in a nice minimalist style that I liked. The stylist was very personable and charming; I enjoyed talking to her as she cut my hair. When she turned me around to see my new hairdo, I was a bit shocked by how short it was. I could see she did an excellent job cutting it precisely as we'd discussed, but one thing we forgot to talk about was how much to take off. It's the shortest it's ever been. She was so nice and worked so hard on my haircut I didn't want to say anything about the short length. It worked out okay because here I am a week later loving it. I don't think I've ever had such a clean, even haircut and it's a dream to style (takes less than five minutes). I'll like it even more in about a month when it grows out a little. read more

This is review for Polina Zaiko: It started so well and ended horribly. From paying attention to details, the customer, listening attentively to going rogue, cutting 5 inches all over without asking, choosing pitch black as a color when I asked for brown, leaving it for a full hour so she can have another customer in between and shrug it off. I waited for 5 months to write this review to be fair. A margin of error is something that can be corrected within the next haircut. The most upsetting thing was the I do not give a damn attitude. The little hair I had left only on the top was a puff ball; straighten it looked like a helmet. It was impossible to look presentable. 5 inches for curly requires a full year of re-growth and looking disheveled for that time. What can one say. read more

I can't believe I didn't find Lindsey sooner. My untamable lion's mane has found it's tamer. I have wild wavy hair that does whatever it wants to do. I have to be very cautious when getting my hair cut because the wrong do can get my hair to a frizzy mess. I find it very rare to find a hair stylist that is comfortable working with my kind of hair. I am tired of stylist telling me that it's my hairs fault... it won't cooperate. I found diModa's Lindsey on yelp when I searched curly hair. I was really excited to see what she could do for me so I made an appointment. (You should always book an appointment a few days ahead). The recieptionist told me "Lindsey is the best and she's amazing". I was not disappointed at all. I will not be going anywhere else to get my hair cut. I followed Jen ("Tia") Parel here from Umbrella Salon in downtown San Jose. I think I've been seeing her for about 2-3 years now. I love her, she is so awesome. Jen always has a great attitude and is a very genuine person. She's cute and bubbly. She doesn't pressure you with upsell. She'll mention things I may like to consider, but it's never pushy. In as much as I felt fancy coming into the Umbrella Salon, I'm glad we (I say we because I'll go where she goes) moved here, because I feel this place is more my style. If you haven't updated your address books, he's moved to DiModa ;0) I love Isaac He's the best, so friendly and kind. He's been taking care of my locks for about 6 years and it's always looked gorgeous (even when I'm having one of those ugly days) :P He's great with color and always gives advice on what you should do. I recommend trying highlights here. It's affordable and totally worth it. After my terrible experience with my last hairdresser, I used yelp to find my next stylist. I made my first appointment with Elita in the fall, and the first cut she did was great. She corrected the errors my previous stylist made, and I really liked my hair. At my next appointment, she mentioned a keratin treatment to me and said I might really like it since I have unruly, wavy, thick hair. By my third appointment I was convinced and did the keratin treatment. Wow - I was impressed. It was expensive, but my hair is salon beautiful every day!! So far, I am three months in, and it still looks really good! I think I will be something I budget for and do 3 times a year. This past week, I realized that my hair needs a trim but Elita is on maternity leave, so I reluctantly called and they told me Shannon would be able to do my hair. I was nervous, but Shannon did a great job. I basically told him to do what Elita did before, and he did - he followed the lines and just cleaned up the ends and fixed my self-inflicted bang crisis (yes, I cut my bangs in moments of weakness!). So happy to find a great salon close to our new home. I had an appointment on a weekday evening at 7pm. Earlier in the day, I got a call saying I could come in a half hour earlier if that works for me - it did, so that was great! I got about 8 inches chopped off by Nicole, who was so friendly, kind and talented! She talked to me the whole way through making sure I was happy with the cut and just nice general chat. She also helped me donate the hair I had cut off since it was long enough to do so, which I have always wanted to do and she was super helpful and lovely about it. Also, her assistant (I'm so bad at remembering names, I'm sorry!) was super lovely as well. Just an all-around easy, friendly and fun haircut. I'm the kind of person who will usually wait a year or more to get my hair cut again, but I can see myself coming back here before that to actually continue keeping the great cut that Nicole did looking nice as it grows. I used to always leave my former salons slightly disappointed - they never quite got it right, whether the length, my bangs, or the style. Maybe I didn't communicate clearly, I thought. First time here. Went in for just a haircut. More of a trim and I got just that. Told her I wanted to keep the bob I had going on because I'm trying to grow it out but I like the texture a bob gives the hair. Let me first start off by saying I have never been to a salon like this in my life. Both east coast and west coast as I'm by coastal never had a problem. Today will be my first time using rosalee at this salon and my first time here. I made this appointment about 2 weeks prior to give or take and nowhere on their website or in any of the booking. Does it say not child friendly. This facility does not do any children unless it's their own. They said. Had I known that for that been disclosed to me I wouldn't have even attempted to make an appointment here. I have no family out here and I needed to bring my son with me. He's very well behaved. I've never had a problem anywhere else and he sits and plays on his tablet right next to me. That being said, I did explain this and we still got turned away. I have a wedding this weekend to go to and was planning on having my hair done for it as I'm in the wedding. When I was explaining myself to the stylist that was supposed to see me, another man jumped in who I wasn't even seeing and started butting in with some unkind not necessary comments. I will say I was a few minutes late approximately 13. However, I did call ahead and let them know that I was busy rounding up my son. Even at that point no one said anything about not bringing a child. With how I was treated there and the way they aren't up front and the way that the man spoke to me I would definitely not recommend the salon. read more

So disappointed with the quality of work here. I went in for a consult and together, the stylist and I came to a plan for my hair. When he finished, The color when finished was brown (I was a light blonde) and any extra blonde he did with highlighting was now grey, not to mention the cut was awful. I was told to wash it a few times and it would lighten up. It was awful. I called the next day and was told I could come back a week later. While the re-do was better, it was hard to make it worse. Truthfully this is the worst cut I have ever had. the cut is so disappointing for the amount of money I paid. I came home and found large sections that were longer than the rest and it was just poor quality. I have never had to go back to a salon to fix work. I appreciate the time he spent to fix what was originally done, but I will not go back nor recommend anyone here. read more

I was at Di Moda yesterday and realized that I've been going to this salon for a couple of years already but had not written a Yelp review yet. It's about time! I originally found Di Moda through Yelp. Every stylist there is super nice and it has a lovely community feel--none of the sniping, cattiness or competition that one can experience in some salons. Amber Lopez, the owner, only hires people who to fit into the kind and peaceful atmosphere she wants to create. Lenin, the receptionist, has been there a long time. He is funny, helpful, professional and always remembers my daughters and me. From the lighting to the mirrors to the storage, the salon is well-designed and very restful to the eyes of anyone who likes a beautiful environment. It is a Bumble and Bumble salon, carrying only B & B products. Amber hosts regular art shows, so there is almost always new and interesting art to look at. The only criticism I would make in terms of design is that there is not really anywhere comfortable to sit if you have to wait for someone, and definitely nowhere to sit and work if you are waiting, comfortable or otherwise. I have tried out six different stylists at the salon. I started with Amber Lopez and she encouraged me to try others until I found the stylist I liked best. She said it didn't matter who I eventually decided to work with as long as I chose a Di Moda stylist! There is no awkwardness with the stylists I tried and did not choose. Everyone is kind and friendly. I eventually settled on Amber Robbins. She is one of the top two most talented stylists I've ever met, a true artist with hair. She used to cut and train for Bumble and Bumble all over the U. S. She is a master of cutting your hair to make your face looks its best. She is a perfectionist and will cut and fuss until she has the exact effect she wants. Like everyone else in the salon she is kind and sweet. She also lives in the neighborhood, which I appreciate. In some salons I have felt intimidated--like I am not rich enough or thin enough or famous enough or fashionable enough to be one of their clients. There is none of that at Di Moda. It is a very trendy salon, but everyone can feel welcome and comfortable there, from young hipsters to middle-aged neighborhood ladies. I made an appointment for Friday 02/24, for a routine trim. The best part about my service was Ali gave me a neck and scalp massage. Maybe I was just super tense from stress or maybe she just has a good touch, but the massage helped to relax me. Originally my service would have cost $60 but Ali gives first time visits $10 off, so I ended up paying $60 WITH the tip. I think that is unreasonable. For a neighborhood like Willow Glen I understand that rent is more, but really the inside of the facility is just mediocre (and rather small at that), so why am I paying $50 (if I visit again $60) to not be in a nice setting? Now a days a business needs to have skill AND ambiance perfected. Di Moda doesn't live up to it. Find somewhere that does, it won't cost you more. read more

I have found my new stylist! I hate to leave my last place but as my job has moved to the South Bay, I have no need to make the long drive back to my old salon. I tried a couple of places before deciding on diModa, and the only reason it took so long was they don't have online booking. But that's the only downside - the salon was great, the receptionist friendly and helpful, and Shannon was amazing! So good that I made my husband book an appt. a few weeks after mine. Since my haircut with Shannon, I keep receiving compliments. My hair has new life and it's so easy to maintain! I warned him that I wanted a low-maintenance cut, and he walked my through the process of how to make my hair look like he had just done it. And I love the bumble products! THE main reason why I go to diModa is my super duper stylist Isaac Farfan. He's been doing my hair for over 6 years now and I still receive compliments. I have gone from News Anchor lady hair (I use to like volume) to long (with straight bangs- hello Emily le Strange) to short again (very chic and edgy), and from blond highlights (I know I was kinda fobby) to blue tips and now silver. Isaac is open to try new things and always have suggestions on how to easily style at home since I can't take him home with me. Since his move to diModa, I notice how much happier Isaac has been. He's also the Bumble and Bumble Specialist :o) diModa has the coolest chairs and decor. Very retro and the light fixtures in the ceilings are so daddy-o. They also have art events every now and then. WOW... a stylist that gives gorgeous haircuts and actually listens to what you want? Two words: Elita Olmos. Seriously, I am sick of getting cuts that are too short, grow out poufy, and having stylists that don't listen to what I want. Elita was so sweet, I barely waited at all before she took me in her chair, and I love love love my hair cut. I can't wait to come back in for my next cut! She really spent a lot of time fine tuning my hair, razoring my bangs into tip-top shape, using thinning shears on certain bulky parts of my hair, etc. She gave my hair the individualized attention every stylist should give (but doesn't!) I have been seeing Linsdsey Husband after my original stylist went on Maternity Leave but I loved her so much I never went back! I actually don't make it to her that often. Two or three times a year actually, but she does such an amazing job, I love her so much. She knows exactly what I want and I always leave there very happy. The first time I went there she did a drastic change on my hair color. I had taken my natural blond from dark brown and wanted to go back to my natural hair color. Unfortunately. I had decided to try and take out the color myself using a color corrector and turned my hair a horrendous orange disaster. I left her a HUGE disaster!! She was wonderful and fixed the whole thing and my hair looked good as new. It wasn't as blond as my natural but it was a dirty blond and definitely getting back to what I was used to. Since then I have seen her several times and she always does an amazing job and I think she is very reasonable for what she does. I have been to other salons who have taken hours to do my hair because I have a lot of it although it is thin, and Linsdey is very fast. I feel like I am in and out of there. I also really like the products they use because they make my hair feel great (They use Bumble & Bumble). She is also so personable and she always has something to talk about with me and we seem to have good conversation so it's never awkward which it can sometimes be when you are sitting in someones hairstyling chair for 2 hours or so. She does a lovely job on hair and I would recommend her to anyone for a color and cut because she does an awesome job on both of these. She is an amazing hairdresser and I can't imagine switching. In fact, like I said, I switched to her from my hairdresser of over 10 years because I loved her style. I do recommend calling a little bit in advance for an appointment because it generally takes two weeks to get one booked for a full highlight and cut. They also take credit cards which is a major plus because i love getting my points and a lot of hair salons only accept cash or checks! I have curly hair and got a cut by Luc at diModa two days back. He is very knowledgeable with curly hair care and its nature. Gave me many good tips on caring and styling for my hair. I am sure all you curlys must have seen tons of Facebook videos on curly hair care but, nothing better than the hands-on training he provides you when he asks you to do e.g. diffuse your hair by yourself in front of him and corrects you of mistakes. As my usual stylist was way too busy to give me a trim I decide to scan yelp for a new hair salon. diModa Salon was the first to pop up and since it got rave reviews I wanted to give them a call. The receptionist sounded very friendly and asked who I wanted to cut my hair. There were a lot of 5 star reviews for different hair stylist I didn't know who to choose--so I let her decide my fate. Shannon was the chosen one! I always pass this place and yet I never knew this salon was so close to home. First impression of this place is how nice, clean, and how good it smelled. It doesn't reek of chemicals and there isn't hair all over the place. Very clean to my standards. I was offered every kind of beverage but just thought water would be just fine. I finally met with Shannon and to my surprise Shannon is a guy! All good though because he worked magic with my thick hair. He first interviewed me and what I wanted to do with my hair. Just and inch or two off and please fix my bangs that I tried trimming myself. An inch and a half off and my hair was looking healthy again. Little did I know Shannon wasn't done yet. My usual stylist curls my hair when I'm done but I love how Shannon curled my hair with just blow drying my hair with his round brush. When all was said and done my hair was looking gorgeous, smelling great, and had soft bouncy curls. And for my bangs, I'm never to touch them again and when they offer free bang trimming I shouldn't have any excuse to give Shannon a call to hook me up! Thank you Shannon for the great cut. There are so many fantastic stylists in this salon it's silly. Personally I go to Amber because she is a down home gal with a stylish flair of her own. She's a super hard worker and great listener. For her clients, the treatment is not done until they are 100% happy with results. Once I hired her (on my own dime) to come to a company event where 8 women in my team needed their hair done because of video and stage work. Amber worked fast with all these new clients back to back and each one was delighted with the results. She brought out the best in each new client (& on short timelines). This is, in a way, a pre-review for Isaac. It's been about three months since I've even been able to get my hair cut, since I've been growing out a short haircut from hell. (A stylist at a different salon didn't listen to what I wanted and chopped my hair into an un-style-able, too-short mess.) I recently moved to CA, and I've been desperately searching for a stylist to replace my too-perfect-for-words stylist Gigi back at Hue Hair Salon in Boca Raton, FL (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hue-hairdressing-and-color-salon-boca-raton#query:hue%20hair%20salon) I went in for a consultation with Isaac today to see if there was anything that could be done with my half-grown, irregularly-sheared mess. Within seconds of removing my hat, Isaac had already assessed that my hair has areas of different texture (a nightmare for me) and had suggestions for both cutting it short and growing it out--and when I said I wanted to grow it out, he explained what could be cleaned up in the meantime while preserving length. (A consultation at a different salon had the stylist immediately suggesting that I cut the parts that needed to grow and leave my bangs and neck unruly.) He gave me a complimentary bang trim, cleaned up the back of my hair, and let me go back into the world to grow my hair out with less embarrassment than before.
