I feel really lucky to have found Doris. My husband found her about 6 months ago through a Groupon and she gave him the best hair cut of his life. He has longer, thicker hair and she cut layers into it and gave his hair a lot of body and shine. He took her in a photo of Jake Gyllenhaal from the Prince of Persia and she duplicated it perfectly. I have short hair and I wanted to dye it jet black. She is a great colorists and her hair cut was flawless. If you show her a photo she will make it happen. I have seen Doris twice now and I have never been happier with my hair. Doris really listens to what you want and is open to new ideas. I had a new idea of what I wanted this second time and she saw the photo and duplicated it. I have never met someone who could really duplicate photos like she can. Her skill level is top notch. She isn't afraid to try new things, which is great for someone like me who always wants to try new things with my hair. Doris has a very warm personality and is fun to talk to. Her prices are very reasonable too. The salon is very nice too. Lots of open space and natural light and very clean. Street parking has not been a problem for me. I definitely recommend Doris. She pays so much attention to detail, and if you bring in a photo, she will style/cut/color it exactly! Super friendly, very easy to talk to and one of the sweetest people I know. Doris is a really nice lady and I really enjoyed my time talking to her, however I told her that my normal stylist leaves my color in for 30 mins and puts me under the heat. She had already had my color in for a while with no timer and insisted that I needed an hour under the dryer. I trusted her so I said ok, big mistake! My scalp got burned from the heat and was all red with scabs the next day. Now I have a big bald spot on my head, and my hair is so weak it's falling out in clumps. I don't want to (and can't afford to!) pay $75++ for a cut (no blow dry?) simply because, the 'Hairdresser" is an 'ARTIST' that has an 'Assistant' that holds the Bleach Bowl and offers me champagne and herbal tea. I just want an affordable, good hair dresser/stylist (whatever) who takes pride and humility in their work. Someone who has the chops (no pun intended) to execute or speak up if its not obtainable. Doris completely transformed me, gave me exactly what I wanted, reassured me and answered all of my questions when I thought things were starting to go Left. Also, it's quite OK that the salon she rents her station from (forgot the name of it), isn't surrounded with high end furniture and a polished receptionist or a well dressed shampoo girl. The walls of this Sherman Oaks Salon are an ugly Hospital Blue color and the Stations are a bit 80's looking. Yet, everything is clean and in excellent condition. I would dock a star if I were reviewing the Salon because, parking is a small pain, but this isn't a salon review. *****5 stars for the lovely Doris! I've definitely found my Go-To Gal for Hair! Doris is so sweet! She rents a station at XS Salon and Spa in Sherman Oaks. I found her through groupon and I have been going to her since! I love her because you get what you ask for. She was right on the dot when I showed her a picture of a style I wanted. She also was spot on when coloring my hair. I'm not used to paying salon prices for hair cuts and color, I used to go to Supercuts, but I don't mind splurging when I know I will get the results I want. The last visit I had I was suprised my color was $65! I don't know if that's standard rate but I was shocked at the price. I need to ask for prices next time I go just to make sure I have the funds for it or hopefully Doris is so kind she can work something out with me. read more

I stumbled upon Doris via Groupon. It had been 7 months since my last haircut, and my hair was in need of a haircut. Ever since I moved to LA two years I had been looking for a stylist that I could trust and come back to. And I think I've finally found her! Doris is amazing. She sat me down and discussed with me what I wanted out of my haircut. She talked to me, but not in a fake or forced way. When she cut my bangs she was sure to cut at a "safe" length and asked if I wanted to cut them shorter. When she was done I was absolutely in love with my new haircut. (My previous hair cut sucked, as my person who previously cut my hair left a HUGE gap in one of the "layers" she cut.) I purchased a deal from Groupon, and must have called her 25 times, including leaving 2 voicemails, and even sent her a text message. She never answered or responded so I could make an appointment. Eventually I just drove to the salon and found her there, trying to get a hair appointment. She was very rude and told me she doesn't have to answer her phone if she doesn't feel like it, or take new clients if she doesn't want to. I explained I purchased a Groupon, and she essentially refused to honor it. I had to call groupon to get my money refunded. Not sure what on Earth happened, she seemed to have good reviews, but I was shocked at how unprofessional my experience was. There are too many good hairstylists to deal with someone who blows you off, and is completely rude and unprofessional! So it has been a week since I had my hair cut by Doris. I wanted to wait a bit until I settled into it before I wrote my review because it looked incredible after she cut and styled it for me. Anyways...I still love it! I have never had my hair this short but I decided to do it just this once so the ends can be thicker and grow out thicker. I hated my previous cut and I love how Doris cut my bangs. My hair looks full and healthy. She gave me some wonderful tips on how to care for my hair as well.
