Mish is truly a very talented stylist and artist! I asked for rainbow hair and got EXACTLY what I wanted! While my hair was processing a few other clients came in and Mish managed her time and skills amazingly. A Blonde client got base and highlights. A brunette woman had a touch up and another client with a trim and blow out. I was in the chair for awhile but I knew that ahead of time because rainbow hair is quite labor and detailed intensive, especially since I have jet black hair. Honestly, from NY to LA MISH IS AMAZING! I highly recommend her! Don't hesitate because she's so good her schedule gets full quickly. Quite quickly, I was priced out. Her color certainly warrants her prices, her cuts are great, but not at that price point. Portland is a small market and not necessarily that high end, I think her services are too expensive for the area. Dear Portland: I hope you know how lucky you are. If not, let me explain. That loud NOOOOOOOOOO you heard from down here back in November was Mish announcing that she was leaving us in LA for your fair city. The collective mood was so grim she actually had to promise us she'd come back one weekend a month or we were gonna hold her hostage. Truth, people. I first went to Mish over the summer with, quite possibly, the biggest mess imaginable. It started out platinum blonde but it turned into a haystack and it finally couldn't be managed anymore and I needed help. She started to fix it by turning it to burning-hot red without it turning into a gigantic mud puddle. Six months later, my hair is well on its way to a full recovery and most people can't tell how damaged the old stuff is. It looks like hair again! Very happy. She also totally gets my aesthetic, and so when it's time for a cut, I don't have to show her a photo and go, "This," I can explain what I want, we talk about it, she explains what she's going to do, and the right look appears on my head. I'm going to preface this review by saying that I don't usually put that much work into my hair (think ponytails) and I don't usually care that much about how it's cut. Until I recently decided to chop it all off! I have been trying for about two years to grow my hair out from my last pixie cut and I got my hair to grow to below my shoulders. Experiencing Mish has opened my eyes to what a great hair experience is. I have fine hair. Mish completely gets it. I wanted to go from dark brown with highlights to platinum blonde. The first person I went to (at a different salon) bleached my hair until it was a yellow/orange mess. He said platinum would be too 'gray' for me and tried to convince me that I really wanted a bright, golden color. I've been going to Mish for many years. To say that she is great is an understatement. I follow her wherever she goes. Sadly, I can no longer follow her since she's in Portland and I'm in LA. I'm really excited I found mish on yelp. I explained to her how I get hot easily she is so sweet she had me hold the blow dryer on cool while she was curling my hair so I wouldn't be uncomfortable. She decided (I told her I wasn't sure what I wanted) to cut layers and I am happy with that. I did want it a little shorter so I will tell her that on my next appointment for a hair cut. I also saw her about a month later to get some color on the bottom of my hair. I was a little disappointed at how expensive it was but I get it. I do have a lot of hair so I always have to pay more. I hate to ruin Mish's perfect score, I do. I think she's probably great, if you're one of those people who knows EX. ACT. LY. what they want - the precise RGB value of each hair, the length down to the millimeter. If you have vague ideas, or even pretty specific ideas, she simply cannot work with that, or at least, not with me. I'll admit that I am not good at communication when it comes to my hair, but I showed her a LOT of pictures, and each one was met with either something along the lines "oh, that won't work on your hair" or a shrug. It would be one thing if this were my first time seeing her, not my third, or if I had a long history of trouble with hairstylists, which I don't. I consistently had super cute hair with my old stylist, who is now working in Qatar. I mean...short, piecy, hot red hair! This is not that hard! But apparently it is. Maybe I'm being totally unreasonable for thinking that if I'm paying over $300 for a cut and colour, the stylist should be able to interpret some photos and a somewhat tongue-tied description to something that works for an individual client? But again, apparently this is completely impossible. She bleached out the last colour we had done, which I figured she was doing because she definitely knew what she was going to do next, but after the bleach I was bombarded with even more "but what do you WANT?" questions, and no matter how I answered, nothing seemed to satisfy her. There was nothing, nothing, nothing I could say that would get her to just put some freaking dye on my hair. So I paid her for her time and left. My hair is now fluorescent orange-pink with white roots. It is so ugly I want to cry, and I really wanted to look cute for my birthday next week and a show I'm going to next month. I would assume this was just a really bad day for her, except that we kind of went through this same thing both previous times, though not to this extreme. So, yeah. What a mess. Again, I'm sure she's amazing...if you're the right kind of client. I'm clearly not. Me, I feel like, for this price point, I'm kind of paying the other person to figure out what they're doing without so much work on my part, but that's just me. Sorry. read more
