She spent the time explaining to me, setting expectations, and walked me through the whole process. Tina is meticulous and she spends a LONG time on your hair. She cares so much about the quality of the products she use and how it would go on my hair. She did a two process bleaching that minimizes the damage on my hair. I love the way my hair turned out. It's just beautiful. She's way better than the other ladies out in this area. I will forever come back to her and recommend her to all my balayage/baby light lovers. It was my first time getting my hair done at a salon. I was looking up hairstylists through yelp and Instagram that were affordable and close by. I found Tina, and my experience was perfect! All you have to do is text Tina to make an appointment. She'll ask you to show her pictures of your current hair and tell her your hair history. When the appointment is made, there is a deposit required. My in-person experience during COVID was great. The place itself is called "New Saigon" and it's a mixed nail/hair salon. It has taken me quite some time to decide on what I wanted to do with my hair. For the meantime (last 2+ years) I've been maintaining with black boxed dye (I know...quit judging me). Finally with it being my birthday month (August) I decided my birthday present to myself would be a new do. I decided on red, actually I decided on aubergine. I had 2 hairdressers in mind, one of them has done substantial work on my hair previously, but of course they were both booked. So I took to Yelp. That's how I found Tina. I looked through her pics and the reviews and decided I wanted to reach out. Her cellphone is published on her Yelp and so I text her. She responded pretty fast and asked for a picture of my current hair. So I did as I was asked. She then responded with "What time can you make it on Friday". I initially wanted something early in the morning just because I already know my hair and from previous experience am well aware that it takes a few hours for color to lift on my hair and I knew that I could possibly be looking at color correction for the injustice I had done my hair with the box color. She then assigned me a 2PM appointment. Her shop is in a small corner strip mall on the corner of Tully and Quimby right before the mobile home park. The salon's name is New Saigon which is located in between Happy Feet and Cha Ca Long Phung. There are a few stores along this strip mall and a very small parking lot dedicated to it. Just warning you that you may need to park in the street over even across the street and walk over. I was greeted immediately upon entering. Tina was busy in the back with someone so another lady kindly asked me to have a seat at a station. It was warm that day and the lady that sat me noticed I was fanning myself so she plugged in a small fan and faced it towards me. When Tina finally got to me she asked me what I wanted to do after doing a quick look over my hair. I explained I wanted it cut and died one color. She then gave me 2 pieces of paper to fill out. One was like a release of liability of sorts and the other was an overall checklist of my hair. After some back and forth we decided to do a red bayalage to go with my long layers to provide me more depth. I am so glad that she gave me the option because I like the way my hair turned out. The vibe of the salon was good, she offers snacks and wine and was decently priced. Tina really wants you to feel comfortable and at home and goes the extra mile to ensure that you are happy. I have to say that my visit was very disappointing and a waste of my time. I live 30+ miles away and have one small child so I had to arrange for childcare on the day of my appointment - the appointment which I made TWO MONTHS in advance. After some discussion by text, we landed on a day and she said to arrive at 5PM. She then asked for my full name for booking. I had sent her pictures of my hair, and what I wanted to achieve. She said that because I had just had it bleached, I should not have another bleach session, but a toner would be fine to get my desired result. I agreed, and we settled on that time for a toning appointment. So a full two months later, I text to confirm my appointment at 5PM the next day. I had to text again that evening to see if she even got my text. I'm pretty sure that the delay was due to the fact that she never wrote it own in her books, but was faced with the text thread that she couldn't deny was clear that she agreed to the appointment. So she texted back to come at 3PM. A two hour difference in appointment time?? Now if I had asked a friend to watch my child while I stepped out for an appointment, a two hour change would have been unacceptable. Luckily it was Thanksgiving break and my partner was at home all week to watch our son. I went ahead and confirmed for 3PM the next day. The next day I made the trek out to see her in Vietnam town in San Jose after Thanksgiving brunch. I had some trouble finding the salon (not her fault at all but just a head's up that it's tucked away off the main road) but I finally parked and went in. It was busy and she was with another client, so I had to wait for a little while. As soon as I am seated, she asks if she's ever done my hair before. I said no. She then asks me what I want done, and I remind her by showing her a picture of what I had wanted. She tells me then that she can't do that without bleaching my hair and she's sorry. Okay hold up. I showed you a picture of my hair and what I wanted and you said you can get my desired result with a toning session, but when I sit in your chair two months later, you change your tune and say that you can't? It occurred to me that she asked if she had ever done my hair before because she didn't want new clients, and that she only wanted to deal with old clients. I honestly wish she had told me any and all of this two months previously when we were discussing this process at all. I ended up having to leave my appointment five minutes after being seated in the chair because she basically refused to do anything to my hair. She then returned to her other client. The lack of communication is shocking and unnerving. She obviously forgot my appointment, double booked me, and then said that there was nothing she could do to get my out of her chair. I ended up buying $50 of products at Ulta and got pretty close to what I had originally wanted, which saved me $350+ than if I had her do that for me. I don't doubt that she is pretty skilled at what she does judging my her insta, but her lack of professionalism and communication skills are what turn me off. I will not be returning, nor will I recommend that anyone looking for a new stylist visit her. Not that it matters, since it seems like she only wants existing clients. read more

This review is overdue, a little over a month to be exact. In 2017, I began to follow Tina's Instagram after seeing that some of my friends went to her. I inquired about an appointment then but ended up going to another stylist. One year later, and almost desperate for another color correction(I like to bleach and experiment with pastels at home), I booked an appointment with Tina for 8:30AM on a Thursday morning a week and a half before Christmas. What can I say, I loved her bubbly personality. She's very easy to talk to and personable. Before we got started, she asked for some pictures to confirm the color and style we talked about. She also gave her opinions on it and the disclaimer of: "This will be your own version of it." I filled out a waiver and profile paper, and then she worked her magic. 7 HOURS LATER, I came out about a level 8 blonde and we threw a little grey over it. As Tina dried my hair, she noticed it wasn't up to par with her standards, and we toned it a second time. She also gave me a mini trim. 2 hours later, I finally attained my dream hair in ONE SESSION. During the 9 HOURS I was there, Tina offered me drinks, snacks, egg rolls from next door. I loved chatting up with her. She was so sweet and kept checking up on the pigmentation process of my hair as she swept through about 2 other toning sessions, and 3 other balayages. Tina is absolutely amazing!!! She is so dedicated and will make sure you leave her salon happy!!! The customer service was perfect, my appointment was long and took all day (3-11:45) because of my boxed dyed hair but she stayed strong and offered me drinks and snacks the entire time. My hair has been through a lot of box dye and bleach and experimenting but I'm happy to say that after yesterday I'm done with the at home DIYs!!!
