Don't GO... I moved up here recently from a neighboring county, which is where my girl that's been cutting My hair is but rather drive an hour, I thought I would try to find someone local. That was a terrible mistake. .. I would absolutely not recommend Jay. I told him exactly what I would like and once he started to cut I realized it was going well and said something to him and he said to me "oh honey, that's not how I do it." So I did not get the haircut that I wanted. It's horribly uneven and he was very rough. His hand techniques are terrible and now I have hair that's uneven that I had to come home and try and fix myself. ‍ He did it "his way" anyway. On top of that, he cut 4 inches off the back of my hair instead of 2 which I made very clear, Not happy. .. I truly don't understand how he has almost a 5 star review. Oh wait .. maybe it's because his clientele are mostly the elderly and can't see or hear very well so he does what he wants. .. Very very disappointing . ‍‍ read more

I tried to call him several times, never answers the phone. I finally got him on the phone 2 weeks later and made an appointment to get a blow dry. I find him to be expensive and I told him about what I generally pay to get a blow dry, and reluctantly, he said he would do it for that which was still a great price. He was very rough with my hair. He put the hairdryer close to my hair shaft almost burning the shaft of my hair, and when I asked him not to put it too close cause it was burning my hair, his response was "well, honey, I have to hurry this through because of what I'm charging you" yada yada I gave him a good tip, and I paid him well, and I will never go back. my hairstyle was OK but my original hairstylist in another town was so much better and more reasonable. I'll drive that distance just to go to her from now on. read more

I can't say if Jay does a great job cutting hair, but his "five star" rating doesn't reflect the other side of running a business, which is ethics and great customer service.   I would recommend that you support a salon with better principals who value people and who are careful in acknowledging who makes them their money. I called Jay early in the morning  on a Tuesday and scheduled my appointment for the next day. A few moments later, I called him back to see if he had another day available instead, and he said that he did not. So I said ok and hung up the phone. Then I immediately called him back to make sure he knew NOT to cancel my standing appointment, but he did not answer and so I left a message. I stated that he should NOT cancel my appointment and that he should call me back. But the entire day came and went without a return phone call. The next day, I called to confirm my appointment and again asked Jay to please call me back, but he did not. So I drove down there and arrived to find out that he had given my appointment away. I told him that I had called him twice to make sure that he did not cancel my appointment, and yet he never called me back. His response was a snarky "Good day to you." Jay refused to have a conversation, or take responsibility for his actions. His solution for dropping the ball was to shut me up and make me leave.  He had selfishly considered all his own needs and wants first and none of mine. read more

Was in Tampa Bay for business before Thanksgiving, needed cut & bleach weave; thru Yelp I think found Jay who happen to have time because of cancellation! Lucky day for me, not only did my hair look good when I left, Jay is personable, friendly and has his salon decorated nicely. Pleasant experience all around and will be driving 60+ miles in the future for his hair services. read more

Jay knows how to cut hair. He gave me a great cut. He suggested high and low lights to brighten up my grey, brown already highlighted hair. Wow, what a difference; he was so on target. I am so relieved to finally have found a hairdresser I can trust. Jay is professional, takes his time and does a total 100% great job. My hair is cut so perfectly that I can wash and go. I don't get my hair cut very often as I wear it long, but it was definitely overdue. Jay took very good care of my hair. He took the time before doing anything to evaluate and consult. I was especially pleased with my bangs; he was very careful not to cut them too short. His salon is very clean, and modern looking.
