I'm not sure if this place has had a change in management or what but I did not have a great experience and don't understand why it's so highly rated. I get it, you get what you pay for but I've been to plenty of affordable salons that provided professional service and some sense of cleanliness. I went in thinking the stylist would be able to do a hair tone service but she gave me a haircut instead. I didn't go in for a haircut originally but she kept insisting that she wanted to just trim the ends. I finally gave in thinking the sooner she cut my hair the sooner she would tone my hair but she proceeded to style it instead. I asked her several times if she was going to tone my hair and she kept saying my color looked nice. If she couldn't do the service I wanted she could have told me on the phone when I called instead of wasting my time and trying to upsell me other services. read more

I am very upset with this place. This is my second time going here. First time was last year and I asked the hairstylist to trim about a couple inches off and she did just that. And I was happy with it. I rarely get a haircut. I only go in for a hair trim because I like long hair and I go I probably once a year. This time around there was a different hairstylist. I believe her name was Rose or Rosy. I told her I wanted to trim maybe 5-6inches. She shows the amount of hair that is and looks about right. She asked if I wanted layers and I said thats fine. Just a little. I don't like layers but thought a little bit of it wouldn't hurt. She then started making conversation with me. The next thing I know I saw a bunch long strains of hair on the group and as she was trimming and cutting I saw how short my hair was. I was terrified. I told her that my hair was way too short. At some point I told her to stop fixing it. She still try to fix it by trimming and cutting some more. She wanted to style my hair and said I would look younger with this hairstyle. I never ask her to look younger or style my hair. I just want a simple cut 5-6inches off. She didn't do that and I believed she chopped off almost 15 inches from my hair. I was upset. When I went up front to pay, the guy at the front desk probably the owner heard my concerning voice about my hair and asked "is everything okay". I said no it's not. My hair is too short. He responded "well I hope it grow fast" I could have just walk out and not pay but I didn't. I paid and still tip 10% because I just can't see myself not paying. I'm still upset at how much I lost my hair and the unprofessionalism this place is. I understand that an Asian salon doesn't always give good experience and I would rather them be rude to me than chop off my hair that I can't get back. I contemplated about writing this review thinking that it wouldn't bring back my hair but I decided that someone need to see this and be careful next time you're getting your hair cut here. Ms Rose did 2 keratins for me in 2022 with great results, pleasant salon visit. This time I tried a no lye relaxer called Lavox that Ms Rose recommended. Super result beyond all expectations. Stopped in yesterday and was a little nervous about how it would turn out. The nice lady explained that she would not be able to get the exact color I showed her. She said I can tone it down and blend to look natural. Then she asked several times about trimming my hair which I declined. At one time even offered to add layers which looks really awful since my hair is full. While she washed my hair some of the chemicals got in my eyes, water was cold and my hair was dripping water with the tiny towel. When I was seated my hair was pulled harshly by the hairbrush. The results of my hair came out far better than I anticipated though it did not outweigh the way the treatment. read more

I made an appointment Saturday and they were able to get me in Monday. Amy was my stylist. She and Helen did my consultation together. I wanted to take my (ridiculously) blonde hair down a notch to my natural color which is dark blonde/light brown. They convinced me that we should leave some blonde highlights and ease into my natural color. The color looks great, I have never had someone match my natural color so closely. The cut is also very good and exactly what I asked for. One of the best haircuts I have had in a long time! I have been going to Helen for about a year now and have never received bad service. She remembers your name and remembers exactly what you had done, so the more that you continue to go to her the more she begins to understand you and what you like. I have had everything from highlights, to color to just a cut and let me say I have yet to be disappointed, and I don't think that I will ever be. I have very curly hair and have lived in Houston for about 13 years and Helen is the only person that I have found that can cut and color my hair just the way that I like it. She is awesome at color and cuts and knows exactly what she is doing. I will recommend her to anyone!! Based on recommendations via Yelp, I tried this place out. I got a hair cut and my roots done by Helen. She was very friendly and overall did a very good job. My daughter also got her hair cut by Helen and was pleased. As everyone has said, it's definitely a no-frills place but the price for what you get can't be beat. Terrible experience as a first time customer. I read wonderful yelp reviews of long time customers but I walked out of here in tears. I continuously warned Amy of my fear of thick, platinum blonde highlights due to a bad experience when I was 12. I said I was giving highlights another shot but wanted very THIN and NATURAL highlights and very few that only framed my face. She started putting highlights in the back of my head before I was even done explaining. Even after I continuously warned about my thin hair dying very fast, she left my color in while she proceeded to cut another customers hair. The highlights came out THICK and platinum. When I told her they were too bright and too thick, she just told me that I can part my hair on the other side, which still showed very significant highlights. She still charged me full price and I left miserable. On top of everything, this salon is filthy. I have been cutting my hair here for a year now since its down the street from where I work. I can usually knock out a haircut during lunch. The girls there are experienced and curteous. No need for appointments if you're a guy. They cut, stlye, shampoo, condition, scalp and shoulder massage for 10 DOLLA! Tell them exactly what you want and you will get it. Let me put it this way, this salon is a family owned business. They don't have multiple hair stylist with different work and techniques. But they are all very nice and seems like they have somewhat the same knowledge on hair. I've gotten my hair done here about two times because its affordable. But the term "you get what you pay for" applies in this case. Both times my hair came out super brassy/yellow and not ashy blonde like I wanted it to but I didn't have a problem with it. That's all they do here HIGHLIGHTS so don't expect Ombre or Baylage or other fancy work from this salon. They do a great job at haircuts though. I usually get my trims here because they're affordable and my original stylist charges $50 so I want to save. I will keep getting my haircuts from here as long as I live in Houston. read more

I went here because the Yelp reviews were great, which turns out to be a mistake on my part. I am pretty disappointed with my hair cut from last week. First of all, I asked for 2 inches to be trimmed, she cut off 6. She said my hair was dry that's why she cut off more, but that would have been nice to know before she did it. Secondly, the "layers" are horrible. They look like my 5 yr old neice cut them (uneven, doesn't gradually flow into next layer, from the front looks like someone started cutting my hair and then forgot the back, also very choppy). The only reason I give it 2 stars, is because the lady cutting my hair was super sweet. Maybe she was having a bad day, but I still have to go to another salon to get my hair fixed. This is the worst haircut I've ever had. It is chopped off randomly in over four places, uneven, different lengths on each side by TWO and THREE inches. I don't even think she clearly looked at the photos. Either way, a cosmetology student would immediately fail if they did this. It will take me way over a year to grow out the damage. Based on the reviews (and my price range), I went to Helen to ask for help fixing a bad hair cut - all the layers were a mess. The other woman working there didn't seem as confident, so since Helen had good reviews here, I booked my appointment with her. She fit me in the same day. As soon as I sat in her chair, I could tell she knew what she was doing. She took my terrible cut and made it soft and lovely! For $15!!! She has been doing hair since the 80's, and she is so sweet. She was very welcoming and really listened to me when I told her what I wanted. She checked with me 3-4 times throughout the cut to make sure it was what I wanted. And, when I had no idea what I wanted with my bangs, she asked if she could do what she thought best - and she made them look awesome! I went here for the 2 years I lived in Houston and was never disappointed. I got Amy for my first haircut and loved the bob she did so much that I always made appointments with her. The next few times I went in I got layered cuts, like "the rachael" from season 2 of Friends. My experience with that cut has been that half the time the hairdresser gets it wrong, but Amy always nailed it. I went in for a blonde ombre. At first Helen told me the blonde would barely show up because of my brownish red hair. She gooped on the dye and then put me under the hair dryer for about 20 min. Parts of my hair turned out white, and yellowish blonde & other parts didnt color at all. The worst of this all is my hair is completely fried!!!!!!!!!!! I have lost so much hair and inches!!! They have a coupon for first time customers and she wouldnt abide by it even though I had never been there before. She's charged me $50 for my over processed hair when I had a coupon $30. If I have a bad experience somewhere, I generally keep my negative opinion to myself and do not go back to said place. However, I'm very upset about my first and last appointment at this salon. I'm new to Houston and in October I went to a different salon to get my hair dyed brown. I specifically told the stylist I do not want red. It came out red. Yesterday, I went to Hair Lovers to completely switch it up- I wanted to go blonde. Which I've done before. (I'm a natural brunette). I showed my stylist (Amy) pictures of what I had last year and I wanted to go back. She told me that what I had last year was "too light for me, anyway" and proceeded to show me a picture of a color completely different than what I wanted, and told me that that's how my hair will look when we're done. I asked if we could go lighter because that's what I wanted. She said it would be light at the roots but not the ends because my hair is dry and broken at the ends. Ok, fine. She ended up touching up my roots with the red that I didn't even want in the first place, and added chunky, trashy looking blonde highlights to it. I have never been so displeased with a hair style. I spent $110 here and I definitely should have spent much more else where, that way I could have gotten a decent result. I gave this place two stars because Amy is very sweet & made a lot of conversation with me. I'm going to a different salon in an hour to get my hair how I want it. read more
