My son has had his hair cut by both women at the shop and they both did a very fine job. A few months ago, my son was cut by Brandon ( I believe this was the gentleman's name....green hair and tattoos.....)......This fellow is not just a stylist, he is an artist. I watched him with the young man who had the appointment ahead of my son and he did an amazing job on both young men. He tweaked and fine to their specifications and both walked out standing tall and with big smiles on their faces. I cannot recommend this particular stylist with higher accolades. He is a genius and definitely has a knack for the younger crowd. read more

Great barber shop - fits right in with the spirit of downtown Clayton. The owner has it decorated with lots of barbershop bric-a-brac, and some old timey photos of barbershops, one or two of which might be from Clayton's dusty past. Hung along the ceiling are a variety of leisure suits, and I'm told if you've got a 70s themed party to go to, you can rent them. But you don't go there for the decor, you're there for a cut. They've got plenty of seats, and you'll never have to wait if you're in a hurry. BUT if you want the best service and best cut, you'll be wanting Nancy. Nancy is the nicest person I've met here in Clayton. She always has a smile and a kind word. And she gives a great cut too. I am here for the winter from Boston. I tried a few barbers in the area before I settled on The Hair Place. What I noticed is they seemed to know everybody's name as soon as they walked in the door, like "Cheers". What's more important is I got a very good haircut from Nancy. I have to talked to customers while waiting and heard that most of them have been coming there for years. Everyone is very friendly and everyone makes you feel right at home. I highly recommend this place. From what I see and hear, it doesn't matter who gives you a hair cut hear, you will be satisfied with it. They also provide services for women. read more

My son, who hates to have his hair cut, enjoyed his experience with Debbie, who is not only the sweetest person, but also an awesome hair dresser. He looked great after the hair cut, and when the time came for the next haircut, was excited to go back to Debbie. Again, she was great, and delivered a great haircut (she had taken notes on what he liked, and gave him the same haircut). Debbie get more than 5 stars. However, next to Debbie is Pam, who gave my daughter a trim. She didn't wash or wet her hair. And after she was done trimming it, she sprinkled glitter on her hair, without asking anyone. A week later we still couldn't get rid of all the arts and crafts type glitter she put in her hair. She had the hutzpah to charge us $20 for that mess. Pam will not be touching my kids' hair again. I had been going to the same barber for over 20 years near where I worked on the Peninsula. When I retired I had to find someplace new and decided to try Hair's the Place. It was a great choice! Pam has really taken good care of me. She encouraged me to try a shorter cut and it worked perfectly- I call it the "more with less" haircut. She also recommended a good product to help hold things in place. This is an old-fashioned shop where people chat and have a good time. I highly recommend HTP and Pam! read more

I've been going to Nancy, who now owns The Place, for nearly 20 years. She and everyone else in the shop are first-rate hair people, although I've never let anyone other than Nancy cut since I'm such a creature of habit. Nancy, at one point a year ago, cut my hair REALLY short and I was surprised. "You look good with short hair" she said when I wondered if it was TOO short. Within 48 hours, I had at least 6 comments from women (yes, including my wife) that it looked REALLY good. What more could a man want from his stylist? A friendly neighborhood place...and they put colored flags in front to indicate whether they're not busy (green), kind of busy (yellow) or "go away until later" (red). read more

Been here three times. People are extremely friendly making this a very enjoyable place to visit. Haircuts are OK. I get just a basic buzz with a #2 or #3 clipper -- nothing fancy. After two of the visits, had to scissor off the strays missed during the haircut. They do not take credit cards. They are open Wednesday through Saturday. A really nice touch is the flag placed out front to let you know how long he wait will be. Green means no wait, yellow means short wait, and red means long wait. read more
