So it was a pleasant surprise to find this place at the food court. The popcorn chicken we got was tasty, nothing too special just good. The Hakka dry noodles were good but a bit on the saltier side. I discovered it back in early 2020 after moving down from Kansas and it's been my obsession since then! The quality, taste, service, price and portion are all amazing! I love the popcorn chicken and rice/veggies combo, and my boyfriend loves their beef noodles soup. It's owned by a friendly couple who always make the food fresh and tasty. I like to call ahead before getting off work and they'll have it ready within 15 mins. The only downside is they only accept cash, but if you have Zelle or Paypal, that'll work too! Their portions are super generous! I don't think there's any places for beef noodle soup for $12 that is served in this HUGE bowl. I can eat that for 2 meals and my boyfriend can eat it for 1.5x meals! I love how you can pick which type of noodles you want with the soup dish, so I can get the flat noodles, regular egg noodle, or vermicelli and it's still the same price! The day I tried it, there was surprisingly a pretty short line, so we immediately went to order. We ordered the Rice Udon Soup, Hakka Noodle Soup, and Sesame Oil Chicken Noodle Soup. They came out pretty quick, I believe we only waited around 10-15 minutes. Hakka Express truly delivers value, the bowls were bigger than our heads. 1 bowl definitely had enough for 3 meals. The taste of the noodle soups were exactly what I had been searching for after coming back from a summer around Asia and craving what I'd eaten there. There's plenty of parking in the parking lot and indoor tables/seats shared by the whole food court. We ordered the braised pork over rice with vegetables (other option was with bamboo shoots, dry hand-cut noodle with popcorn chicken (different noodle options available), and Hakka fried rice. All of the dishes were large portions for $13 each, and they were all so flavorful! Our favorite was the braised pork over rice; it was similar to what we ate in Taiwan! We got a huge bowl of dry noodles and a generous portion of popcorn chicken for exactly 11 bucks. It was enough to feed 2-3 people. The quality of the food was excellent as well with the noodles being cooked just right and nice crispy popcorn chicken. They also let you choose what kind of noodles you want in your bowl. They do not accept credit cards here; however, if you do forget cash, they will take payment through zelle which is awesome since I rarely ever have cash on hand. Hakka express is my NUMBER ONE go-to homestyle Taiwanese restaurant due to both amazing food and amazing service (and amazing prices!)!! This is a family-owned business, and the owners are super sweet (they even helped me carry order to my car when I couldn't hold it all in one trip!). They are very vegetarian-friendly as well and offer substitutions for certain dishes when they have ingredients available. Also, for you basil lovers out there, when you ask for more basil, you get more basil. Definitely don't skimp on anything!!! (Unless you ask for less oil.) Their prices are insanely reasonable for both the quality and quantity of food you get. Could not recommend this place more. So tempted to ask them if they'll hire me on for a day just so I can learn the secret to their mouth-watering tomato egg dish???!!! My favorite vegetarian dishes: tomato egg, basil egg plant, Hakka basil tofu, dou miao (pea shoots), kong xin cai (water spinach), si gua (gourd?), chow mien (fried noodles), chow fan (fried rice), and dou gan rou si (no meat, sub mushroom). I've been to this food court many times and I have eaten here 2 or 3 times. I have only gotten the Lo Mein so far, so I can't comment on the other dishes. Just like the other places in this food court, they only do cash only. The people have always been nice and the Lo Mein has been very tasty. Both the beef and chicken are very good. If they offer you some "hot sauce", remember that it is a chili paste and very hot, but also very good. Just be careful when you put it on your food. I am anxious to try other dishes here. This place is busy! Depending on when you go they can get so busy that they run out of certain dishes or you may be waiting for up to 45 min. They do a lot of phone in to go orders which is nice. I see a lot of people order their noodle soup dishes and you can even select what kind of noodles you want which is extra nice. I had their fried chicken and it is good but a bit too salty for me. They have interesting dishes like bitter melon with pork intestine that I enjoy. What they do really well is stir fry type dishes because their wok hei is super! You can see the fire from their kitchen light up high every so often and so a fried rice dish comes out so fragrant and smoky! That's what I think they excel at - I can really appreciate a restaurant that uses hot heat to cook and combine that with experience and you have really nice flavorful food. read more

The only thing I wish is for them to have more seafood or chicken options. Their menu consists of a lot of pork, which I don't eat. This place is tucked into an undiscerning Asian food court. They have about a dozen items on the menu. They are a cash only family run business. The cuisine is Hakka which is a nomadic tribe in Taiwan that is known for their rustic but amazing cuisine. My mother in law is Hakka and the culture of food runs deep in her entire family. Lots of slow cooking, mincing and fine chopping of veggies and meats, and layers of sauces and flavors. Lots of technique to optimize flavor from all ingredients. Hakka cuisine is now starting to have its time in the limelight (e.g. Hakkasan, a $$$$ haute cuisine destination in San Francisco and Vegas with elevated Chinese food served to you by beautiful white people). So suffice it to say we have very high standards for Hakka cuisine and this modest food court booth did not disappoint. I had a huge steaming bowl of pickled radish and pork soup noodles, my wife had a duck soup noodle and we shared an order of Taiwanese style salt and pepper fried chicken nuggets. All our dishes were very good and reminded us of our mother's cooking - which is one of the highest compliments I could give this place. We ate out of plastic bowls with disposable chopsticks and metal Chinese soup spoons sitting at a shared table with some loud Chinese grandmas. So don't expect fancy, but if you want some great tasting Taiwanese comfort food, this place will not disappoint. read more

My boyfriend and I used to come to this cafeteria-like vicinity every weekend just to get the fried chicken rice with vegetables. The food has always been consistent here and the tea eggs are my favorite. I feel that this stand is somewhat neglected because it is hidden in the far right corner when you walk in the main doors. The cashier counter is also not as flamboyant as the other shops. I haven't ventured to anything else on the menu because I love the fried chicken rice so much. The portion size is generous, and the dish comes with shredded pork (laid on the rice), as well as vegetables or bamboo shoot, and one tea egg. The bamboo shoots aren't bad, but are usually well over-cooked to prevent any tough pieces. I recommend the veggies (steamed baby bok choy) when presented with the option. The staff members are nice. It's usually the same bilingual woman that works at the cashier, but occasionally there's someone who takes over that doesn't speak much English. It's not a problem for me, but if you don't speak Mandarin when the bilingual woman isn't there, you should resort to pointing at the picture of food that you want. Cash only, like with all other shops in this cafeteria. The only store that will take card is Tasty Tails. In addition to only cash, the restaurant is closed every Monday. read more
