It comes in a small pizza box which is pretty cute. The line at the restaurant was LONG. But when I walked in and said I had a pickup order - just ordered online, it was only 2min wait. Just had halo sushi last night at the new location in National City and it was very hood and well priced. I did do the pickup option on doordash so it does not hako sushi outside because it merged with another store but yes its in that shopping center next to the Jack in the Box on plaza blvd. My sushi was good favorite rolls were the salmon lemon roll and wifes salmon lava. Kids liked there california roll. We also.hot.the ring of fire it was ok but were just not that big on baked rolls. Like many people out there, I had seen the instagram reels and decided to try this place. I had placed an order for pick up at a certain time and when I got there I still had to wait ~15 minutes. Service was okay, nothing special. When I finally got to trying the sushi, I realized, similar to others' reviews, that a couple of the rolls tasted the same with very minimal distinctions. The one that stood out the most was the Brûlée Roll because it was so distinguishable. The sushi itself didn't taste very fresh either, which is I expect from good sushi. Ordered take out sushi from this place over the weekend and it was great! It's inside of Ichiban Sando (which is tiny) and there's a small parking lot in the back which was nice. Ordering and pick up were super easy and the staff was very friendly. Taking one star off because I'm a little picky about sushi and their rolls felt like they had a little too much rice. That's a pretty good deal. The sushi is served in a pizza box. Yes a pizza box. It threw me off at first, but it's ingenious. The presentation when you open the box is amazing. Adorned with flowers and banana leaves. It's both beautiful and functional. The sushi of course is fresh and delicious. I really like their special rolls. Very creative with good combinations of ingredients. The Happy Roll, Hako Special Roll, Salmon Lava Roll and Salmon Lemon Roll are all must try rolls. Overall, a great little sushi spot. First of all, the map takes you to 3142 E when its actually 3142 L. The place has no name or sign saying "Hako Sushi" you just kind of have to know. When you order on the website they say theyll call you when its ready and we got no call, no text. If it werent for us getting off and lookign for this place we wouldve never have gotten our sushi. We basically went hungry for 45 minutes waiting for a call from this place. Disappointed. read more

My dream finally happened and I got to try the pizza sushi boxes! These have been on my radar for almost a year now and I was saving it for the perfect group occasion. I ordered the medium tray online through their website portal and was able to request for the sushi to be placed in pizza boxes (the bigger family sizes came in trays originally). All the sushi was delicious, though I think I ought to order on a cooler day so the sushi stays cold from pick up. I will say the rolls were not much of a variety, though it may look, as I had hoped since most of them had a California roll filling but different topping. I would have liked to have more raw sushi fillings myself. There was also a bit too much rice and we all got full pretty fast from it. I think next time I'll order a small size and try that since this amount ended up being way too much for our group of 8. Overall, love the concept and presentation. read more

The presentation is so beautiful. The boxes look really nice when you open them! Everything looks so pretty. The downside is the rolls don't taste great and aren't special. They use very dense and thick rice, lots of imitation crab, and very thin slices of fish on top and inside the rolls. The thick rice definitely ruins the rolls. The rice was overcooked, crunch toppings were stale, fish not fresh, sushi was warm, and I could taste the tap water in the wasabi powder they use.
