The Halal Bros has been on the must try list for my West Sacramento jaunts. It was pouring outside, so of course it was the perfect opportunity to grab food. Originally the plan was to order to go, but we decided to dine in. The dining area is pretty small and they have about a half a dozen booths. It looks like most of their business is to go. The staff is super friendly, which I always helps with a new experience! Being totally undecided, and wanting to try a couple different things, we ordered a side of onion rings, a veggie Samosa, one kebab plate, and a Shawarma pita. The veggie Samosa: it's what was recommended to us instead of the beef or the chicken. The outside of the Samosa wasn't very crisp and was pretty bland tasting. The veggie part was OK but wasn't very flavorful either. It's not something that I would order again. Pretty underwhelming. The onion rings: they were OK. I was glad that they weren't greasy, but again they were missing an actual flavor to them. The chicken pita: it was OK. Nothing that I'd go back and order again. The chicken was seasoned but very lightly and I think I was expecting some deeper flavors. I did ask to skip the onions because my past experience at other places is that they will add in a huge amount and it's pretty much an onion Sando, and I absolutely do not want that. The kebab plate: this was sort of a mixed bag. The chicken was super flavorful, but also really dry on the inside. The beef, was chewy and underwhelming. Not a good combo. The salad was basically lettuce on the plate. Not worth spending the money on a plate. The rest of it was mostly rice with one little quarter piece of pita. It's not enough pita and there's very little tzatziki sauce. I just felt like a very overpriced plate of rice. The restaurant is clean, and there's plenty of free parking. read more

It's been awhile since I've dined in, but it looks great inside with the wall mural, redone booth upholstery, etc. They even have a little popsicle/ice cream freezer in the corner by the register (opposite side from the fountain sodas and condiments). The front counter itself is also a beautiful live/natural edge wood grain surface. I'll always order the falafel. Don't be fooled by their modest size, they are perfectly packed with smooth flavor. The mix (lamb and chicken) is also good if that's your thing. Last visit, got the falafel platter with everything on it, a raspberry Brisk iced tea, and the smaller portion of the chicken tenderloin fritters (came with BBQ sauce) to share. Happy to report that Sac now has even more viable options for fast casual halal restaurants! After eyeing this spot for a while, I finally made the trip to West Sac to try this place out and oh boy I'm so glad I did! First things first, ya can't go wrong with the prices. If you're like me and thought the pictures of platters online seemed on the smaller side, you're forgetting that other dimension because these platters are DEEP. They're about 3/4 inch thick and at least half is from the protein. The other half is a lovely fragrant rice that's so good you can kiss that cheese-looking yellow rice from Halal Guys goodbye! I'd also like to quickly mention the onion rings - they taste like the ones from Burger King and that isn't a bad thing whatsoever (IFYKYK). I wanted to try mixed platter since I'm on low carb high protein diet, I decided to go with combo plate with no rice, also falafel and my fav dessert baklava. First the steak was overcooked and very tough to eat, but chicken wasn't dry seasoned well and delicious, it was my first time for Chapli so I have nothing to compare but it was ok, the salad wasn't fresh and neither was pita. Falafels looked different but it was good and I liked their yogurt and green sauces, baklava was ok but it was too sweet. Solid spot! I visited Halal Bros over a weekend on a whim when I was hungry and in need of a quick bite. My needs were definitely met here! When I arrived, I was the only customer, so I was able to look at the menu and quickly order. I opted for the lamb gyro, onion rings, and a fountain drink. The employee behind the counter gave me my cup and I grabbed a table to wait for my food. Small gripe: the fountain drink cups are really small. Like what would would expect a kids size to be at a fast food place. Not a big deal if you're only drinking soda while you're there but otherwise not a very useful "to-go" cup. Anyway, back to the food! My order came pretty quick and looked great. The only rings were a decent portion and came breaded with what appeared to be panko. They were nice and crispy and came with a pinkish sauce - I'm thinking a spicy yogurt based sauce? Not sure what it was but it was also good and the color was awesome. Onto the lamb gyro wrap: also solid if a little smaller than I'm used to. I've had my fair share of gyro wraps over the summer and Halal Bros's wraps are on the smaller side BUT they are also on the inexpensive side, so it evens out. The wrap itself is great and definitely something I'd order again. One small observation: the tables and seats are a little awkwardly placed. I needed to scoot my table closer to my seat to really get good use out of it. If I'd been dining with someone else, we would've both had an awkward seating situation. A hidden gem in West Sac! On walking in, you'll be met with a light and cheerily decorated interior with some newly upholstered booths for dining in. It does seem more geared toward the take out crowd, however. The service staff were very down to earth and friendly while being helpful with menu suggestions as my soul was torn between trying something healthy or trying those meat fries I ultimately opted for the Lamb Combo Platter served with seasoned rice, fresh salad, and BOMB sauces. This is a very small spot and it is a little hidden from the road. It took me a while to find this spot but it is definitely worth stopping by. My boyfriend and I just happened to find this place because we were hungry and we are so happy that we did! We ordered the lamb platter and it was really good. When I heard that the people who ran the gyro spot on campus at Sacramento State opened up a brick and mortar, I automatically bookmarked it! I have no idea if it's true and if it's the same owner, but if not, the food was just as good. We came by on a Friday to pick up dinner. The parking lot is small but we got lucky and snagged the front spot after we circled back around the parking lot. It is nice and clean inside. Not much to look at, but that's irrelevant since we can't dine inside right now anyway. They greeted us upon entering and took our order. Two mixed platters (chicken/lamb) over rice and salad with white + hot sauce for us, and some French fries for our doggies. It was ready in minutes and we were on our way! The platters are under $10 and make for a perfect fast casual meal! It tasted so delicious and we ate everything so fast. Tender meat and just the right amount of each sauce. Only complaint is that the online menu did not note what came with each item. Had to look at the Yelp menu pictures to find out. My little brother and I tried this place earlier this afternoon. It was our first time trying the place. First impression from the walk in. The ambiance is cool. It is a small type of establishment. The capacity cannot be more than 20-30 people seated COMFORTABLY inside. There are 4-5 booths in there. They combined two small tables. It is more of an intimate setting. This is not the type of place you bring a large group of people to come and eat. As far as the service, it is a smaller establishment. It is more personal. Do not go in there expecting a quick turnaround of your order like you will at bigger establishments. It is going to take 5-10 minutes for your food, but everything is made to order. The worker was very hospitable and informative. He told me what was on it, and asked if I wanted to have all of that on my order. We ordered our food. We both got the mixed platter. It comes in a small tin foil container, about a foot long, and 3-4 inches deep. They place a small layer of lamb and chicken over a very large amount of brown rice. The put a small salad on the end. It was basically lettuce, but it was some cucumbers and tomatoes mixed in as well. They top all of that with some white sauce (that is name of it on the menu) and hot sauce (which I left off of my order). The food was great! I enjoyed all of it. I am not well versed in my Mediterranean taste buds YET, but I would definitely want to go back, and I would recommend to anyone in the West Sacramento area. Again, I would have given this place 4.5 stars is possible, but I can't. The smaller venue is both a gift and a curse if you want to try to come in and eat while there are a lot of people inside. Prices...the mixed platter was $11.99. It did not come with the pita bread. You have to order that on the side which was $0.99 each. I would have liked to get some more meat and less rice. I would have also liked to get much more white sauce. I will admit the employee that took my order did tell me that he would give me more sauce. All I needed to do was ask. All in all, I loved the smaller, intimate setting here, as it allows you to build a relationship with the staff (if you chose to be a regular) which is always a plus for me.
