had halco service guy in to look at my 20+ year gas log unit. unit kept kicking out. they set up service right away. service guy, rob, was on time and did his thing w/cleaning unit etc. he did a great job and unit is back kicking out heat. i looked at previous reviews and was a little skeptical. but needed to get unit going fast !! thanks halco !!!! read more

My experience with Halco has been very good. I have a older Empire fireplace and they have inspected and serviced it promptly and satisfactorily. I understand supply chain and cost issues and know what the base charge should/would be. Also expected parts to be an additional fee if needed. I regret not reading the reviews before hiring. I had a terrible experience with Hal, the owner. I bought a $2500 fireplace in January 2024, and it worked fine. In November 2025 when I tried to use it, it just clicked a few times and then stopped clicking altogether and didn't turn on. After changing the remote batteries, it still didn't work. I called HALCO in January 2025, and Hal said the parts were under warranty, but danced around the cost. He then angrily disclosed it was a $200 service call and, no, they don't back their work or customers, even though the fireplace was under a year old and inoperable. When I asked about warranty coverage for service, he became angry and very rude. The service guy quickly found that the issue was a battery pack behind the logs, which you can't see and I didn't know about. He said if the clicking ever stops, its these batteries. I explained the clicking to Hal when I first called and neither he or the service guy suggested troubleshooting. Either of them could have helped by telling me there were batteries in there that may need replacing before sending a guy out to change batteries. It really stinks when a company won't call you back! Then is rude when you do speak to them. Yes........now Weeks later yes finally called another company to come fix my unit! Only to find out the one I bought and had installed by yes yours truly! (Halco) installed it all wrong which caused me to pay another 1500.00 dollars. No the new company didn't take me like I felt these guys did they showed me everything step by step that went wrong and how it originally was to be installed!!! They were clean polite. Didn't show up to tell me oh I don't have the part I will have to come back (right) call after call of excuses. This company had all parts including a whole new unit which I didn't want to have to do but was left no choice. Ok I don't make this a habit but beware!!! This owner caters to the "high end customer" only. We were looking for a smaller version of a great grill. We walked in and the first statement out of his mouth was "oh, wow, first tine I've sat down all day ". This is a huge man, who can't pick his feet off the floor. We were shown a Napoleon grill, which was really small. We started looking around the store for other options, and "dude" went back to sitting down. I asked about another grill, and he was so disenfranchised, he didn't even answer. We left, went to Queen Appliances. Found an awesome Napoleon grill, which was the perfect size. Rip off cost wise but it gets worse. Ridiculous charge to come out. The grill worked fine except for the rotisserie motor connection was shorting out. I was waiting for an email about potential replacement units when they came out and replaced a bunch of parts THEY say needed replacing to the tune of almost $800. They did not get the rotisserie motor connection working. So in short they came out when I did not ask them to and did not get working what I called them for in the first place yet replaced parts that worked fine. Then when I complained they said that to fix the rotisserie issue would require a wiring harness that would cost almost what a new grill would cost and would not be available until the end of the summer. was here when they removed the old grill to install the new one. All of the wires were easily accessible. One connection pulled apart which most likely was where the short was occurring. I could have fixed it myself. It did not need a wiring harness at all. Lastly then installed the new unit which does not fit into the space of the old one. There is over an inch gap in the stone countertop behind the grill. Now I have to get a new piece of stone. When I emailed them that this was not acceptable I got no response. read more

$500 SERVICE CALL CHARGE LINE ITEM on a repair that took exactly 1 hour and 12 minutes from the knock on the door to closing the door behind the repairman. Just the SERVICE CALL CHARGE. I supplied the part! That smacks of desperation. Being in real estate I thought at one point I might recommend HALCO. Now my recommendation is: AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Here's the full story: I stopped in to ask if they would install a manufacturer-supplied part or recommend someone who would ,for a new Empire Fireplace which was damaged at installation by an unqualified contractor. I was Grilled, no pun intended, on who supplied it, reprimanded for not using Halco, and then Hal even tried to make me feel stupid for the contractor's mistake. That didn't stick even a little bit. It was only when, at about 10 long minutes in, I hit full frustration and explained to Hal that this was the last bit of an 8 month renovation from hell happening only because of a move I had to make due to a dear personal loss to Covid that he agreed to send his repairman... but I'd have to wait 6 weeks. Four weeks in I stopped by to confirm the repair date, and say thanks with a pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving. It's just me, but I had no hard feelings for his lack of empathy and customer service. They kept my credit card information after they said they wouldn't, and then used my credit card to charge $1500 without my consent or knowledge. I reported to BBB which they are not a part of . They ignored them. On top of that scheduling was a nightmare. We paid for our outdoor fireplace and everything ahead of time. They agreed on a week and then said they didn't have time. I had to beg them to come install it. My mason could not finish until they installed. After it was installed we had a problem getting it to work. We called explained, they gave us a couple things to try. We did and they didn't work. We called back MANY times, but they refused to answer or call us back. Horrendous experience, not trustworthy! YIKES!.... 275$ to do service on a grill that was still under warranty and less than 6 months old. It took 15 minutes to replace the part that was delivered free from TEC. Hal said there would be a service call. i figured like any service call it would be around $100. Never thinking to ask EXACTLY how much nor did he offer an estimate. Now I know why. Hired Halco to fix my gas fireplace. $200 later they "fixed" the fireplace and it worked for a whopping 4 days. Have been calling them repeatedly for the past 2 months with no response. This place is the true definition of a scam. Will charge you without actually following through with the work. Avoid at all costs. I was very disappointed and frustrated in my experience when purchasing a gas fireplace logset and custom fireplace doors. Pricing and timelines were not honored. Communication was horrible and installation was insanely priced($550 for 2 hours?). Specifically, I went in to the store early December hoping to update my fireplace by December 24th when I was having huge famiy get together. I was told they could get logs installed on 2/21 but the doors take 2-3 weeks to get in so I better order fast. I ordered doors(and put down deposit) on December 7th..still hoping December 24th possible. I also expressed concern over 2 visits for installation and installation costs...was told his guy will just shoot over there to finish once doors come in. Turns out its 2-3 hundred dollars per visit. So...can you believe doors came in 1st week of Feb? Never an uninitiated call from them with a status...only unapolagetically responding to my call or email saying "not in yet". in general, once they get your money in the form of a deposit you're stuck. I gave the owner plenty of opportunities to try to work with me to make the experience better but he chose to snub me at every opportunity. I would not recommend this business. read more
