Came here after work with a friend and we really enjoyed ourselves. Tried the charcuterie with the chicken liver mousse which was my favorite. The sunchokes and risotto were also delicious. They had a great wine selection and the service was quick and all the bartenders were very knowledgeable about the different types of wines, often giving us a heavy pour! We just moved to Boston from California and wanted to check out a new wine bar in our neighborhood. We came on a Friday evening, and the place was packed so there was a 30 minute wait. The owner was friendly and welcoming, added my name & number to the list and gave me a phone call once a party of 2 was getting ready to leave. We sat at the bar and I loved that you had the option of getting a glass, half bottle or full bottle (more variety of wines to try!) and the bartender was extremely knowledgeable with the wine list. We ended up ordering from the bold and badass wine selection, and went with two of his recommendations based on what I described that we liked. We also ordered two plates, the Linguicia sausage with potato and tomato jam and the tuna panini (special that day). I think perhaps she was haunted by memories of bad tuna casserole from her childhood... However, after one bite of canned tuna belly, she was a convert. The wine menu is large, and focused on the obscure. Orange wines, natural wines, wines from female producers, etc... The staff is knowledgeable on their product, pleasant and willing to discuss what you're into, and willing to sell anything from the bottle menu by the glass if you're willing take half the bottle. My date picked this place to meet up the other night. Arrived about 10 min before her, and saw there was a seat at the bar. Hostess asked how many and I mentioned two. She asked me to have a seat not at the bar because they would "squeeze me in when two opened up". I sat at the bar anyways. The pretentiousness of this place is out of control. For a wine bar, the wine by the glass list is overpriced and small (5 different wines, all at least $14). Their bottle list is old world heavy, and things are priced pretty steep. Of the few new world wines, the most hilarious was a $140 prices bottle of Oregon Viognier that i personally know retails for about $45. They were out of the particular wine I asked for, but that was met with "oh we have other stuff opened". Then the other wines were described in a way even I didn't comprehend as a frequent wine drinker. I was poured a 50/50 Pinot Noir gamay which was ok but not great to start. Add to that it wasn't even a full glass and things were off to great start. A few minutes later a seat opened up, and I thought that was great. But then comes the hostess saying I couldn't save that seat even though my date would be there in two minutes. I had to ask again and that was met with a no we don't allow that. I figured this wasn't the place for us, and asked for me check, on which I was charged $8 for the 1/2 glass of what turned out to be not great wine. I've been trying to find a good wine bar in Boston to meet with friends. This is definitely not it. I went to the bar for dinner on Friday. I got the cava sparkling wine and my friend got a glass of French white wine. I am usually not a huge fan of cava, but I wanted some sparkling wine by the glass. It was actually very good, I would buy that wine for home. We also shared a mix and match charcuterie board. The chicken liver mousse was so flavorful. We also tried the prosciutto and the guanciale. These were okay, good but not extraordinary. The blue cheese was also very good. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was very knowledgeable. The bar is quite small and gives an intimate feeling. However, around 7:30 pm a lot of people were waiting around for tables so it got quite crowded. I would recommend going earlier (around 6-6:30 pm) on a weekend night. read more

Me and my wife ordered a glass of wine after a couple of sips I realized my wine was corked which the server kindly offer a new glass and opened a new bottle... much better... My 2 starts go to the MOD that night which had a little bit of an attitude with us, I guess she didn't want to be bothered when we asked things as she was too busy attending her friends who were sitting next to us, tons of wine to taste for them... soooo good for them. We asked her for a final recommendation for a glass of wine and she served us a glass that was okay... to our surprise when we asked for the bill was $20 glass of wine... I'm fine with the price, what i'm not fine with, is with her not giving us a heads up and charging us without even telling us. I will pay $20 or more for a glass of wine ***not for the recommendation she did*** want to make that clear, is not a money complaint but is just the principal. Ok, let me start with the fact that this little spot has some serious hype to live up to. Highly recommended both in magazines and online. So naturally we were very excited to try. I think they only have 3-4 tables so it might not be the best place for a celebration. Although we mentioned our anniversary, no one acknowledged the event in any way. Not looking for a Vegas style announcement, just a little something to make the meal special. The by the glass options are a little limited, however they pour single glasses from the whole menu it seems. We ended up getting a bunch of off menu glasses which ended up being around $20/glass, which isn't usually what I look to spend on multiple glasses, but they were all excellent choices. read more

Really wanted to love this place! And I'm sad to give this place a poor rating when so many others have had positive experiences. Came with a few girlfriends on a Friday night. The place was pretty full, but there was not wait and we were seated right when we came in. Main complaint is the woman that served us, the GM, Kristie. Not sure if it was just her personality, but right off the bat she came across as really stand-offish and threw down a lot of attitude. We felt incredibly unwelcome and our visit was just kind of ruined by her. At one point, she'd try to get us to pay the bill and leave right after we put in orders for food with the owner, Haley. My friend and I ordered 2 glasses of one of their already uncorked rose selections. My friend had a full pour, but my glass came out to only two thirds of my friend's before the bottle ran out. Still got charged for 2 whole glasses. The thing is, I know Kristie noticed when she'd poured it out, but there was no offer to open up a new bottle and top my glass off to complete the pour. She just walked away, punched in the charged for 2 full glasses in the POS machine. I really don't like it when servers don't use the little carafe/decanter glasses to measure out the wine... I know people don't use them when they can just eye the pours once they know how full the glass is supposed to be.. but it just kind of sucked knowing that I got jipped after paying 25+ per glass of wine. Their tinned fish was tasty.. but also very pricey for very small servings. I know Saltie Girl has bigger serving and better tasting tins for about the same price. Will most likely not be back. The wine selection is great, and their policy for opening bottles is really neat. It enables you to try some really funky stuff. Their menu is small but won my heart. BUT they'll open any bottle on the whole list if you're up for buying two glasses... if you're not, anyone else's half bottle is available by the glass. The bartenders are incredibly knowledgeable, and the wines are delicious. Other things are great too. I walked in, was greeted immediately, got a seat at the bar shortly thereafter, and was given great advice from the bartenders. Only downside? Music was a little loud for me. We brought up wanting to order some food, at which point she cut me off mid sentence to say that anything other than cheese on the menu wasn't available (this was all before 11pm). I asked her a question to clarify, and our server just kept shaking her head and saying "Nope!". She really wasn't listening to what we were saying, her stream of head shaking and"Nopes!" continued even when we ordered cheeses that said were available. We were seated at one of the larger tables, and there was some sort of ceiling vent that dripped water on me very consistently throughout the night. My experience really threw me off and I probably won't come back. Adorable little place tucked in the heart of Boston. Space is slightly limited, but the selection is decent and the staff is very helpful and friendly and quite knowledgeable about wine. When I went they were playing hip-hop and it was quite a contrast from the setting - with the dim lights and the cozy decor, I would've expected soft jazz to be coming out of those speakers - but nonetheless I loved their music choices (old school hip-hop) and it just worked. Serving only beer / wine with a limited menu of "snacks", haley.henry is not where you take your visiting parents. But if you're walking by with a friend and see two empty seats - STOP - and go inside! I promise they'll be impressed. You'll find a very unusual space; it almost feels like you're seated in a hallway. Half the seats face the bar - watch the staff (who are probably cooler and more knowledgeable than you are) prepare the tins and boards. The other half sits stools against a window bar - enjoy the people watching as they pass down Province St. You'll be hard pressed to make a full meal out of the menu, but it is possible. They have an impressive amount of offerings for charcuterie boards and a long list of "tins" containing different types of fish or meats. The lamb tartare or roasted cauliflower can be more filling. What it really comes down to is the wine list; the star of the show. Not too many wines by the glass, but you can buy half bottles for each option - the waitstaff will steer you in the right direction. Beer options are ever changing and always intriguing. Important note: haley.henry doesn't take reservations unless you have a party of 5 or more, but they will allow you to call night of and put your name in. But to be fair, I'm probably gonna have to hit this place a few more times just to tap more of the menu and try a few more wines and brews. But what I have had so far has been outstanding. Tinned fish is a "thing" now, and haley.henry has an entire side of the menu devoted to it. Smoked oysters in BBQ sauce are delicious. Wife loved the smoked trout and the tuna in olive oil. And be forewarned, these tins are deceptively dense - almost bottomless. Well worth the price. Cheese/charcuterie boards are solid, with some unique sweet and salty complements. My friend and I were so excited to try this place and it was honestly a disappointment. The place itself is small and cute with a friendly staff, but the food left something to be desired. We ordered the pickled veggies and beef sliders to start. The sliders were ice cold when we bit into them. The cheese board was ok, very bread heavy (bread was delicious) but two very small pieces of cheese and no real accompaniments other than mustard and some pickled onions. We also ordered wine - I do not discriminate against reds so asked our server to pour me up whatever he recommended. He came over and said he had a red open already and poured some, but it tasted like it had been open a day or two longer than it should've been.
