Hubby and I woke up early on a Sunday, only to be very, very disappointed. We thought to try a whole variety of them, spent about #24. Much to our dismay, all the donuts we bought were dry and stiff. They actually tasted like they were at least two days old. The hazelnut butter cream was sooo sweet, we had to spit it out, and could taste the oil in the old-fashioned donuts. The pineapple bits taste caramelized and crunchy within the fritter and the fritter was perfectly done, not over fried or greasy. If you're not sure which flavor to get, try a bomba. I got 2 banana foster bites and a drip coffee and that was just over $7 pre tip which i felt was a bit pricy. However the donut bites were delicious sooo I have no complaints. Not at all to boast, but I consider myself to be somewhat of a doughnut aficionado. I mean, I grew up in WI where, for my whole life, Sunday's meant Catholic church and reading the Sunday paper with a standing order of doughnuts. My BMI doesn't lie. ;) After moving to WA and quickly learning that we do not call long, rectangular frosted raised doughnuts "longjohns," a la WI, but we call them "bars" (i.e., maple bar or chocolate bar), I was ready to sample as many doughnut joints as I could. Fast forward almost 5 years and I have just finished two of the best doughnuts I've ever had and they're from Half and Half. The first was the "la canela" - a maple cinnamon old-fashioned that I bought for my significant other. He let me have a bite and I seriously considered telling him I made a mistake and that doughnut was for me - so good. Perfectly crispy without being too dark and the cinnamon was an ingenious addition to the maple frosting. The other was a bananas foster filled doughnut. Wow - luscious banana creme filling. Half and Half's doughnuts are not cheap but they are delicious and unique twists on classics. I'll be back to try more flavors. PS - great Americanos, too. read more

I used to love this place where service and products were of equal quality. Once I even had a long conversation with the baker/owner about our German heritage. But it's unfortunately not anymore possible. This past Saturday was the third time that my wife and I had to walk out of Half & Half Doughnut with a negative feeling. It was the third time that the same girl (short, dark hair/ ca. 1.30 pm) served us in a very unfriendly manner. We had a question and she rudely walked away without answering. She demonstratively ignored us and didn't even make the effort to have eye contact!We are asking management to do sth about this employee. We sadly decided that this was our last visit! We would love to come in every weekend but until this issue hasn't been resolved we cannot support this business! read more

I've been coming here for nearly a year every so often. I love their coffee, hnh sandwich, and variety of donuts - especially the market spice one! Live just a block away from this place so decided to give it a try. The shop has a nice vibe and great service but the doughnuts aren't as amazing. I'll interpret "Half and Half" to represent me needing half a brain to soend half my wallet for the unfulfilling experience to consume high fat food here. Adjusting the previous review because first of all, paying about $10 or more for two donuts before tip and without any beverages just seems insane right now. I know there is inflation going on, but really, that pricing is still ridiculous. These donuts are just not worth it period. Furthermore, the customers seem to come Second here. After entering an empty shop we were not initially acknowledged, because the two people "working" there were so busy focused on some social conversation between themselves, we seemed like ghosts to them. I started to browse the donuts just standing there, and eventually they greeted and acknowledged me, but at that point it was already too late, because the first impression of the visit made a lasting negative impression. Hmmmm let's go to some sky high priced donut shop in a challenging neighborhood, with no seating, and get bad service too. NOT. I've eaten these donuts before, and after looking at them uninspired by what I saw, seeing the ridiculously high prices, realizing there is nowhere to sit in the small dreary shop that was really dark in the morning, and reflecting on the difficult inconvenient parking situation, often lawless neighborhood, and lackluster service, I had to leave here asap. This neighborhood has enough issues of its own besides this donut shop, and between that and the whole vibe of the experience, I went to another part of town with warm light, seating, friendly and attentive service, and donuts that were around half the price and still very good. This donut experience is "Seattle Life" at it's worse to me, as not only is it annoying, but it hits the wallet too hard for donuts that don't live up to the unimaginable price. read more

Freshly made, food center texture that's buttery and airy. Only bummer is there is no indoor seating. Outdoor seating is about 3 tables. Just tough to enjoy when it's the cold and rainy season. I'm going to be honest, I had really high hopes for this new doughnut shop. It was not worth the hype in my opinion and since it's on the pricey side I will not be returning. We ordered the hazelnut, banana foster and the churro doughnut. They were dry, flavorless, and dense tasting. These were not the light and fluffy doughnuts that I would expect in a yeast salty flavor. If I bit into this doughnut blindfolded I would probably guess it was a safeway store doughnut... Soo I will first disclose that I only have tried one doughnut here so far. Also, I will be back. Okay, awesome job to this place for getting 5 stars just off of my first time there and trying only one doughnut. I got in just after 6am which is their opening time. They didn't have the case fully stocked yet which isn't a deal breaker but I will say you are basically a bakery so I would have liked to have seen a full case even at opening hour. Let's get back to the doughnuts. The place smelled amazing and fresh in a great quality way as soon as I stepped in. I decided to go for the Bismarck filled with espresso caramel cream. This was amazing. It had a richness necessary for a doughnut but not overtly sweet off the top to make it overwhelming. The breads texture was perfect giving the right balance of chew, softness but integrity needed as you bite through so that it doesn't fall apart with the cream filled center. The cream itself was amazing. Flavors all balanced. At first I thought it was maybe too salty, but as I continued to chew and take another bite, the espresso and the sweetness of the caramel mixed nicely on the palate so that each flavor was really bouncing off one another. The nice thing was that the cream was light enough to not distract from the flavors and the bread part of the doughnut. I'll be back one morning needless to say. read more

I've eaten here about 6 times and can testify to the deliciousness & quality of their donuts. My reviews of the ones I've eaten: - Old fashioned & chai old fashioned: good texture, density and flavor. The chai version is flavored with a chai mix they make in-house. - Filled donuts: The bananas foster is absolutely amazing, the cherry creme-filled donut with chocolate frosting is really good too. The fillings are creamy, not jelly based. Bombs: These are the little round donuts. The raspberry "bomb" I had was just ok, I was expecting more filling based on the name. I just expected yummy filling to flow out as soon as I bit into it but it was mostly bread. Perhaps my expectations set me up for disappointment. Fritters: I tried the pineapple fritter bc it's apparently popular. To be honest I didn't see why. The fritter I got was a little undercooked in places and I wanted it to have more pineapple & more moisture. I ate around the sides but didn't finish it. I will definitely go back here. I've already been too many times and frankly I'm glad they're not open all day. read more

Really really great place! It's only a counter (i.e. very limited seating) but it's very well decorated so it's lovely to look around. There are a lot of doughnut options and there were samples out of the old-fashioned doughnuts when I was there. I'm a big fan of old-fashioned cake doughnut, so I was happy to see a whole array of them here. I ended up getting a vanilla non-iced old-fashioned - not too sweet, a little savory but in the good way, with great texture and chew. Honestly, this non-iced offering is what makes this place a 5-star place for ME. As much as I love icing, I know it makes me feel horrible for a few hours afterwards, so the non-iced option allows me to indulge a bit on a doughnut without going overboard. Love it! read more

General Porpoise and Mighty-O's has new competition in Half and Half Donuts. The donuts here are not really comparable to any donuts I've had before. They're really dense (almost like bread). On the donut I had, the granulated sugar coating was not overbearing and the the filling is very rich. There isn't really any space to enjoy your donut inside, but there's some outdoor seating. Really frustrating to walk there and find them closed on Monday's. Yelp get your act together! This is the computer age. Should have almost immediate updates if the business tells you what they are. The old fashioned I had was very good, rich and chocolatey. The flavors of the bomb and fritter I had were good, but the dough was just flat wrong. As a donut lover I want light and pillowy, but this was dense and chewy, like a bread. That made it feel like I was eating a 3 day old . Hope they improve the dough on those raised doughnuts. They really need to when they're charging 3 times what the non-designer old standby shop charges for better donuts. Half star for nice peeps behind the counter! read more
