    Coffee while we wait
    Kari Z.

**Worth Every Minute of the Wait!** My husband and I visited Half and Half around 10 AM on a Sunday morning, and I'm so glad we stuck it out through the line that stretched halfway down the block! While they don't take names for their waitlist, the gentleman at the front assured us he'd remember us--and he absolutely did. The line moved surprisingly quickly, and we were seated in about 20 minutes. The food was fantastic! My husband ordered the hash and eggs (on our server Isaac's recommendation--great call!) and I went with the eggs Benedict. The poached eggs were absolutely perfect: beautifully runny yolks with whites cooked all the way through. The hashbrowns were delicious and perfectly crispy. My only minor critique would be that the English muffin on my Benedict was a bit tough to cut through, but honestly, that just meant I got to savor my meal a little longer! What really sets Half and Half apart is the exceptional service. Isaac, our server, was attentive and friendly with great recommendations. The coffee flowed freely while we waited for our food (which didn't take long at all). The attention to detail was impressive--when my husband dropped his napkin, someone had a fresh one waiting for him before he could even get up from the table! The atmosphere has a wonderful 1950s diner vibe that feels authentically family-owned. Even if it's not, the entire staff maintains that warm, welcoming family feeling that makes you want to come back. All in all, the combination of delicious food, remarkable service, and charming atmosphere makes Half and Half a must-visit breakfast spot in Reading. We'll definitely be back!

French toast (Not bad but a bit on the dry side and could use more fruit)

Had a solid breakfast here, would return to try more menu items. Vibe: Small breakfast place, a half step more upscale than a diner with personal decor. Indoor seating, they pack a lot of small tables in a narrow space. Service: Servers were VERY attentive. We were seating and drinks were served immediately. The food look a good while longer to come out. Food: I got the French toast which wasn't bad. On the dryer side and the fruit served with it was minimal. I did like the touch of the flavored butter and they had real maple syrup available. My partner got the savory waffle and that was delicious! Really packed with flavor, a solid breakfast item that I would recommend. Value: Prices on par Overall this was a nice place to get breakfast, with speedy and attentive service and some good plates, would try again.

Searched for a place near my hotel that served avocado toast and this place came up. Gives off diner vibes and that was nice. The service was great and friendly. The food was delivered hot and fresh. We had no complaints. Avocado toast was so creamy and delicious. The eggs Benedict was classic and flavorful. You can taste the freshness of the eggs and I really appreciate that. They have this bell by the door and ask you to ring if you enjoyed your meal. That bell was ringing the entire time by customers that enjoyed themselves. We definitely rang that bell too.

When we first sat down we were welcomed and told that they serve the best corned beef hash in New England and they weren't lying!!! My boyfriend is a certified corned beef lover and confidently said it was the best he had ever had. He also was very excited about being able to pick how many eggs it came with. I had a chicken panini with waffle fries which was great. I feel like it's rare to find a place with such diverse French fry offerings! The service was also lovely and it was well decorated inside. This was a good halfway point between Boston and the north shore and I will definitely be returning!

This cute spot has quickly become our go to breakfast spot on the weeken. Delicious breakfast options, reasonably priced and great service. The corned beef hash is a must try. Their huevos rancheros, avocado toast, and eggs benedicts are also great options. They have an omelet bar and offer espresso based drinks. Place is usually packed and is on a first come first serve basis but we haven't had to wait too long.

This place was a dream! I am Gluten free/ celiac and the owner here absolutely understands and makes this place safe. Came here early on a Saturday and got seated after only a short wait of 10 min. Got sat right by the door so we kept getting pumped by other patrons. That was a bummer but glad we had a table. The menu was great and GF items were just an upcharge of +$2, not bad! We ordered and it took forever for our food. Tables all around us got their food and even tables that sat after we ordered got their food before us. That was confusing but after 30 minutes we did get our food. We think it was because it was GF. Food was wonderful. Even with the long food wait and the awkward seating, we would come back again and again! This was DELICIOUS!

The food is great, especially the crispy french toast. I'm very impressed. The service is a bit slow, but it's understandable since it seems a family-oriented restaurant. Also, I believe I wrote the tip on the check, but it looks like they only charged for the food. Not sure if this is accidental, but I'll definitely visit again soon.

The staff, I think owner, was so attentive. He took our baby's order right away and got that going while we hade coffee and decided. We were very happy with our meals - custom omelet and a filled crepe. The baby enjoyed the fish tank. The place is really cute. We will go back. They were good to donate to a recent charity auction so I wanted to give them some business.

Have been just a few times here for breakfast and I really need to go more. This is a wonderful family friendly restaurant right on Main Street. Decent size, lots of seating option including low tops, high tops, and counter. Great variety on the menu and prices are affordable. I love how nice they are to kids here, they understand what kids like and make really high quality food. Pancakes are wonderful, they often have special French toasts and waffles as well that are so yummy and perfectly executed. Bacon is always crispy, never undercooked. Coffee is fantastic (sometimes hit or miss at diners) and is refilled often. A great stop for breakfast!

Tried Half & Half in Massachusetts for brunch around 10:40-11:00, and the place was packed and pretty noisy. The music choice was... interesting, but it did keep the energy up. I ordered the W.T.F (Waffles Tender Fries). The chicken tender was thin but crispy, and while the flavor was lacking, for the price they really could've included three pieces. The Belgian waffles were dense, and the waffle fries were overcooked and tough, like they'd been left in the fryer too long. The coleslaw was fresh with a nice zest, but overall the dish didn't feel worth the cost -- a 5/10 for me. The Philly cheesesteak, on the other hand, was great. Good portion size, flavorful, and paired well with the steak fries. Definitely the better choice -- 7.7/10. Overall, food was hit or miss, atmosphere was lively but loud, and for the price point, I expected a bit more.

Went for breakfast Sunday about 9 AM. It was pretty busy with a slight wait for a table and some open seats at the bar. We waited for a few minutes until another group left and we could be sat. It is a pretty small space with lots of tables crammed in there. They were quick to get us seated and asked for our drink order immediately- two coffees and a hot chocolate. We did have to remind them about the hot chocolate but got the coffees right away. The hot chocolate was really pretty but a little watered down but still good. We ordered the fruit crepe, crispy French toast, blueberry pancakes, two sides of sausage, and a side of two scrambled eggs with cheese. The food came out relatively quickly and was warm.. I believe one of the chefs brought it and he made sure to mention that the French toast had an apple crisp drizzle and the pancakes a special butter and recommended we try first before adding syrup like you would on a normal French toast or pancake. The pancake order came with three decent sized pancakes and were pretty dense. The fruit crepe had a great presentation along with the crispy French toast. The flavor of the French toast was good - the apple crisp topping was very complementary and a nice touch. It wasn't super "crispy" but had a nice coating that added texture and slight crunch compared to your average French toast. They had syrup at the table and we ultimately did use a little for both pancake and French toast order. The service was pretty good - but they didn't really come back to check in and make sure we were all set, but they had a coffee runner who made sure coffees were full. They brought the check and then started clearing the table - and we were then politely asked to leave as there was a party or two waiting. The guy was polite about it, and we were about ready to go anyways but it was a little odd as we hadn't been sitting there extra long - for example there were other tables still there seated before us. Speaking as someone who worked at a breakfast restaurant for years, I get it. It's fast paced and about getting people in and out - so I wasn't upset and again they were polite, but we were wrapping up anyways and just caught us a little off guard. There is not much of a waiting area either, so if it is busy be prepared to stand outside - which on a cold, snowy, winter morning is not ideal. (There is literally only the tiny entrance area) so I'm sure that was another reason for the rush in getting a table opened. It is on Main Street so no parking lot but there is street parking and some areas around the block available. The menu is both breakfast and lunch - I found the breakfast side to be decent but short filled with lots of the sweets (pancakes, waffles, French toast) and then a few other items like eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwich, a hash, oatmeal, "live" omelet, and huevos rancheros. If you want a typical breakfast like eggs, breakfast meat, hasbrowns, and toast it seemed you'd order from the sides menu... not a big deal or problem, but might be a good idea to add a meal option like that - and would recommend maybe adding a side meat or fruit to the sweet dishes included instead of as an up-charge. All and all, it was a good spot and experience - a nice local diner to get some good breakfast or lunch and unique twists on some of your faves.

The menu also offers several sandwiches -- including grilled chicken, boneless fried chicken, chicken salad, steak and cheese -- which are available all day for those heathens who don't crave breakfast foods at every opportunity. I had the Javah Grindah sandwich ($8), comprised of two eggs (over medium at my request), breakfast meat (ham, bacon, or sausage), and a side of James River BBQ sauce on a fresh grinder roll. Unfortunately.. although the description on the menu doesn't mention cheese, my sandwich came out with two slices of white American cheese. I hate having to ask a restaurant to do this, but I had to send it back because lactose. Our server apologized for the misunderstanding and brought a replacement sandwich without cheese out straight away. The sandwich was really tasty with the BBQ sauce. My dining companion preferred something lighter and opted for the Skinny Girl Pick ($12), comprised of two eggs, fresh avocado, fresh fruit, and a few slices of wheat toast, which she really enjoyed. We will definitely be back next time we're in the area! PRO TIP: Make sure you let your server know of any food allergies or dietary restrictions, in case the chef decides to use ingredients not listed on the menu.
