We are locals, love breakfast and brunch and are fans of the original Ketch Joanne's. We're also fans of the current owners of Jetty Wave, who are presenting a new incarnation of Joanne's under the name Ketch Harbor Pub. Curious about what the new/old place is like, our three-person family went there for a late breakfast today. Walking up to the front doors, the original inset stained glass remains. Walking in, the cool wood paneling and nautical decor remains in place with a couple of new touches. The fully appointed bar also remains, now with a more streamlined look with subtle lighting changes. We were greeted pleasantly and seated inside the dining room immediately; it was moderately busy and buzzing, not too loud. Our server was quick to our table, menu-knowledgeable and consistent in his attention to us. We had a Denver omelette, a couple of bennies and lemon ricotta pancakes to share. My omelette had particularly fresh and al fresca peppers and onions - wonderful. The lemon ricotta pancakes were sufficiently saturated and fluffy(hard to pull off)and came with fresh cream. The prices were at about the same level as the local competition, which pleasantly surprised us. It appears that the folks who did this breakfast/lunch reboot were shrewd in pricing their dishes. Jetty Wave, a drinks and appetizers adventure(which I heartily recommend as well for different reasons)in the northwestern part of Princeton, is not for the fiscally faint hearted. The only element that makes our experience short of a 5 is that we were not given a farewell when we left, though I was able to find our friendly server and thanked him. In all, the Joanne's legacy is intact - the old carved wood Ketch Joanne sign still hangs inside - literally and figuratively a homage to its legacy while bringing a new energy to this space. Ketch Harbor Pub (often just called Ketch) is a fantastic spot right on Pillar Point Harbor in Half Moon Bay. We stopped by for lunch on a crisp day, and it completely captured that perfect coastal vibe--think fresh seafood, laid-back atmosphere, and killer views of the boats and water. We started with the calamari, which was hands-down some of the best I've ever had: tender, not rubbery at all, perfectly seasoned and fried, melting in your mouth. The New England-style clam chowder was rich, creamy, with just the right subtle smokiness and balanced seasoning--definitely lives up to Half Moon Bay's chowder reputation. For mains, the Dungeness crab sandwich was the star: generous lumps of sweet local crab, minimal sauce (just how I like it), on toasted sourdough with fries on the side. My partner went with the fish and chips, and the cod was crispy, flaky, and not greasy at all--classic done right. The outdoor patio with fire pits was cozy even in cooler weather, and our server was super friendly, attentive, and full of local recommendations. The place feels welcoming, whether you're a regular from the Coastside or just passing through after a beach walk or harbor stroll. Prices are fair for the fresh, quality ingredients and location--definitely worth it. We've already added it to our list for the next trip to Half Moon Bay. Finished fresh Dungeness crab and Salmon shopping so we decided to get a bite to eat. I knew we were going to indulge in crabs for dinner so I decided to order just New England Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl. I mean...it's a MUST to have as much Sourdough Bread when you're in the Bay Area!! San Francisco is THE OG Sourdough capital!! There was a slight wait so we were able to put our names down and even though the estimated wait time was 30-40 minutes on the Yelp Waitlist, we actually only had to wait 12 minutes! We waited at the bar and got a Mocktail and a couple of strong Bloody Marys that were perfectly topped with a Celery Stick and Green Olives. The Seasoned Salt Rim added a salty punch which was great! We ordered a couple of fish tacos with a salad and a fish and chip entree. Someone commented that the chips were salty. Everything else was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I finished off my Clam Chowder, savored the bread inside and bottom. I requested the rest of the bread bowl to be taken home. When we got to the car, I looked around and I don't know where the package went? I don't know if I left it behind or thought I'd taken it? Anyway, I went back to the restaurant but the hostess asked our waiter Jose if he'd seen it but he hadn't. I assumed it was probably already cleared off. Such a bummer. When I got home, I messaged the restaurant asking where they get the bread & they said in Half Moon Bay Bakery. Perfectly dense and sour! There are ample amount of seats inside and out but expect a wait as the place is in a popular location. Bathrooms had that sanitized smell with the strong soap that can clean off any seafood smells off of your hands. read more

Went here for a late lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. After a 15-20 minutes wait we were seated inside. We were pretty hungry and after some soft drinks we ordered the calamari, the crab sandwich and the garlic shrimp. We really enjoyed the calamari, good portion size, nice Tatar sauce, crispy and not too heavy on the breading. The crab sandwich was a bit disappointing. Could have used more crab meat and the bread was a bit bland. I also don't get why they put cheese on it. It doesn't compliment the crab meat at all. Fries weren't good either unfortunately. The garlic shrimp dish was ok, but we didn't like the consistency of the shrimp. It tasted a bit rubbery. The servers were friendly and attentive and the inside feels comfortable, we just felt that the quality of the food did not match the price. read more

We had planned to go to a nearby restaurant on this day, but it was much too crowded and long of a wait, so we decided to go here instead. I was glad we made that decision because we were served quickly and the food was solid. We had ceviche and calamari for the table. The ceviche was fresh and had watermelon radishes, which added some sun crunch. The calamari was good, though it is usually good everywhere. Everyone got an entrée of either fish and chips or crab salad or fish tacos. Each of these dishes are also a classic and worm well made. I will say the prize were a little bit chunky for my taste, but the rest of the seafood was not too heavily battered. We had lunch at Ketch harbor pub on a Wednesday afternoon. It was an incredibly beautiful day in half Moon Bay and the restaurant was very busy. We were seated outside and got service very quickly. We ordered drinks and they were delivered promptly. We ordered food and needed some customizations on each menu item The server took our order accurately. We know this because she read it back to us. Our food was delivered and each of our items was misprepared. According to the directions our server provided to the kitchen. Only one of us has severe allergies so hers had to go back to the kitchen. The other items were eaten even though they had been prepared incorrectly. I felt a little bad for our server, who had done a good job. It seems like the kitchen staff was inexperienced or not careful with preparing orders. In general, I thought the restaurant was in a great location, had a great vibe, and a good menu selection. I would return to Ketch harbor restaurant, but I would be careful if ordering anything other than what is exactly on the menu. read more

We have not been to Half Moon Bay since we brought the kids to Pastorino's Pumpkin Farm & Festival in 1985. So we stayed at a comfy Boutique Hotel in El Granada had breakfast at Ketch Harbor Pub that was an easy walk across the Cabrillo Hwy. Anyway on with the review. AMBIANCE: It was an unusually clear sunny and calm day and arrived at 9am when they opened. There was an outside seating area with a fire pit but we opted to eat inside. It's a bar like setting on one side and tables on the other side. FOOD& SERVICE: We ordered the Crab Omelette(5/5) and the food was served in 15 minutes. Every bite had a chunk of crab leg, OOOhhh so good. I opted for the home made potatoes and my wife had the shredded but the home made were much tastier. The restaurant is located where you see a large signage Oceano Hotel & Spa at Pillar Point Harbor Blvd & Johnson Pier. I walked away being disappointed with this dining experience. I was here for a celebration, but instead it ruined the rest of my day. First, I waited over 30 min in the cold (even at 1:30 pm). I was later told that they texted me earlier (ofc I didn't receive any) and the worst part was that they were going to make me wait even longer by placing me at the bottom of list. SERIOUSLY!! Luckily, one of the staff saw my reaction and placed me in one the tables outside. When I asked for a table with the fire place, they said they were reserved for larger parties. However, I witnessed multiple times that they placed a party of 3 (same as my party size) in those tables, so what gives??? Food service was super slow, even when it was probably closer to 2pm. They were definitely short staffed. In terms of food, nothing special. In fact, I wondered if they used real scallops vs imitation. It tasted different compared to many that I've had before. We started with the clam chowder and it was flavorful and great texture. The ceviche was fresh and came with warm tortilla chips which was a nice touch. Spontaneous visit to Half Moon Bay on a Saturday morning during Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm so glad we found this place! The hostess was kind enough to ask if we preferred indoor or outdoor seating, and when choosing outdoor she adjusted to shade to our request. Our server was also quite attentive and friendly. The kids were kept busy coloring the kids menu too. We ordered the steamed clams appetizer and fried calamari to start. I ordered their crab sandwich and my husband got their fried cod sandwich. Crab sandwich is good, but they cut the crab meat with a lot of mayonnaise. It tastes great but it's a little runny. My husband's fried cod sandwich was a hit! I really liked the contrast of the battered fish filet and slaw. Their kids menu is also quite extensive. My little one loved their marinara pasta dish. Their kids grilled cheese was also decent and nicely portioned. There's plenty of parking as it's located at Johnson pier which is a popular area with lots of trails to walk around and explore. The inside looked very nice too but how can you pass up the views and the sunset if the opportunity is there. The hubs had the Ketch Cioppino and I had the Shrimp Fettucine. My friends and I wanted to go into Ketch to try their new spring cocktails because they looked so good and cute but to our surprise, our server had no idea what we were talking about. We had to show him the Instagram post where they were named and described. The cocktails came after quite some time and one of them didn't look as pretty as the advertised pictures and videos and was SO rose flavored. We got the fried artichoke and that was actually super good, glad we got that. The second round of cocktails we ordered were better and straight off the menu, so maybe they're just more well-versed on those ones. Went in last Sunday, first time and last. Walked in and was greeted by the girl working the front, who was nice. It was busy which is no surprise, it's Half Moon Bay, Sunday and a long weekend. He looked so annoyed, didn't ask us if we had any questions or anything. And was very short with us when we did ask a question, he just kept looking at us to hurry up with our order. Really liked the food at Ketch, and out of the 3 different restaurants I had clam chowder on this trip, Ketch was far and away the best. Perfect thickness and flavor without having to add any salt or pepper. Chef's kiss! The bloody mary was delicious and hit the spot as my "starter", followed by that clam chowder and finished with the Crispy Seafood Combo. I am super picky when it comes to scallops and I have largely stopped ordering them at restaurants because they are almost never cooked properly. Well I took a chance at Ketch and I was highly rewarded. The scallops included with my combo plate were fantastic, perfectly cooked and exactly the right tenderness. The only gripe was that my wife's $28 crab & bay shrimp Louie salad came out almost no crab at all. Annoyed, she flagged the server down and expressed her dissatisfaction, to which he replied that the salad comes with 2oz of meat so it's normal, but then he went and got her another small bowl of just crab meat. It was late in the day and I understand they could have been running low on product, however my dish should NOT have been served. My friend and I were at the harbor to pick up a Dungeness crab when we had a hankering for oysters. We swung by this place and split Tomales Bay oysters. Location, location, location is a very important factor in any review! This cozy pub is located right in the Half Moon Bay Marina, right next to the Mavericks Surf Shop! How legit is that? The patio lets you hear the birds flying around the boats. The inside is cozy and warm. The menu is really solid for a "pub". The crab grilled cheese looked scrumptious! The chowder was really wonderful, full of fresh clams, and the potatoes were the perfect texture! My fish tacos were a fresh take on an old favorite and totally delicious. The French fries were crunchy and excellent. Our server was Alex and he was terrific, attentive but not intrusive, I liked him lots. The dessert menu was thrilling and the banberry pie stood out but the grandson was done so we paid up and walked out happy! Delicious food and a wonderful time sitting outside. Four of us had lunch here today and sat outside with our pooch. What a very dog friendly restaurant! The service was wonderful and spot on. Always got refills on our drinks and the food was delivered hot and fresh! We had the fried calamari and fried artichoke hearts for appetizers. They were both very yummy. Light crispy batter on the tender perfectly cooked calamari. The artichokes hearts were very tasty too! Light batter, crispy and juicy hearts. My son had the fried seafood combo and loved it. Perfectly cooked tender seafood in that yummy light batter. Mom has the crab Louie, fresh lettuce with lots of crab. Wife had the fish tacos and thought they were very delicious. I had the apple pecan nut salad with oranges. It was very fresh and yummy! The bathrooms are wonderful! Looks like they were freshly remodeled! Very clean and roomy. We've tried Ketch a handful of times and each time left a bit disappointed. Service and ambiance is great but the food is subpar for its prices. As locals, we know how challenging it can be to maintain reasonable prices with such high rent and costs. However, the food portions and quality you get do not justify the price. read more

Well this was mostly a bummer. Me and the hubby were big fans of Ketch Joannes (RIP) when they were open, always brought people there and they were always blown away by the tasty food and generous portions whether it was breakfast or lunch. Friends of ours came to visit from the east bay so we decided to try this new incarnation and while the service was fine (a tad slow on water/tea refills but super friendly), the ambiance had the same feel as before and the food tasted pretty good, my $30 crab sandwich was really a joke; if the top & bottom pieces of bread are touching on a sandwich, you have not put enough things in between said pieces of bread and if you are charging $30 for a crab sandwich in the middle of crab season, you best make a decent sandwich out of the crab pulled off the boats probably less than 100 yards from the restaurant. Also, my fries were cold, c'mon now people, serving warm fries alongside a sandwich that is served at room temp should be SUPER easy, right...RIGHT? Anyway, our friend's food was fine, a tad oily on the fried seafood platter but hey, it's fried seafood, it will be a tad oily. The hubby had the crab/shrimp Louie salad and even those little cheap shrimp were not in proper attendance for a salad at $28, let alone the crab. They should really drop the "Ketch" from their name, it's killing a great legacy. read more

I've given this place three times too many chances. As a local, I'd love a good brunch spot with the view of the harbor. But I won't sacrifice good food for aesthetic anymore. Food took way too long during a time that was hardly busy. I ordered the avocado toast, which describe on the menu sounds delicious. But what came was a basic poached egg on mushy avocado, no seasoning in sight. The bread they used was basically what you get in a bread basket. By no means worth $17. The breakfast burrito my husband ordered look OK, but that's hard to mess up. The only saving grace were the chocolate chip pancakes, which is why I gave it two stars. In addition to the food, the wait staff seems constantly confused. I don't blame them but really blame management. This place looks nice but is being ran into the ground. It's a shame. I wanted to like this place. So the good, the Cioppino tasted good as well as the fish tacos, but everything else was a disaster. The bad, 30+ minute wait to get seated, then another hour to get food. We had to order bread because the kids were starving. The crab sandwich came out and it had pieces of crab shell on it. The garlic shrimp was trash and should not be on the menu. Six shrimp and mostly bell peppers. Our server, was mostly missing. When done we had to wait forever to get a box. No one checked on us for our bill. I'd been done eating for about 30 minutes before someone came by. Even though they were nice enough to not charge for bread and for my son's shrimp, my time is valuable and I will not eat here again. Instead, go up the street to Barbara's, at least it's worth the wait. I feel that they are understaffed so to be clear, I don't think it's the server's fault. But still, not a good experience and will not be going again. read more
