We had planned to go to a nearby restaurant on this day, but it was much too crowded and long of a wait, so we decided to go here instead. I was glad we made that decision because we were served quickly and the food was solid. We had ceviche and calamari for the table. The ceviche was fresh and had watermelon radishes, which added some sun crunch. The calamari was good, though it is usually good everywhere. Everyone got an entrée of either fish and chips or crab salad or fish tacos. Each of these dishes are also a classic and worm well made. I will say the prize were a little bit chunky for my taste, but the rest of the seafood was not too heavily battered. We had lunch at Ketch harbor pub on a Wednesday afternoon. It was an incredibly beautiful day in half Moon Bay and the restaurant was very busy. We were seated outside and got service very quickly. We ordered drinks and they were delivered promptly. We ordered food and needed some customizations on each menu item The server took our order accurately. We know this because she read it back to us. Our food was delivered and each of our items was misprepared. According to the directions our server provided to the kitchen. Only one of us has severe allergies so hers had to go back to the kitchen. The other items were eaten even though they had been prepared incorrectly. I felt a little bad for our server, who had done a good job. It seems like the kitchen staff was inexperienced or not careful with preparing orders. In general, I thought the restaurant was in a great location, had a great vibe, and a good menu selection. I would return to Ketch harbor restaurant, but I would be careful if ordering anything other than what is exactly on the menu. read more

Went here for a late lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon. After a 15-20 minutes wait we were seated inside. We were pretty hungry and after some soft drinks we ordered the calamari, the crab sandwich and the garlic shrimp. We really enjoyed the calamari, good portion size, nice Tatar sauce, crispy and not too heavy on the breading. The crab sandwich was a bit disappointing. Could have used more crab meat and the bread was a bit bland. I also don't get why they put cheese on it. It doesn't compliment the crab meat at all. Fries weren't good either unfortunately. The garlic shrimp dish was ok, but we didn't like the consistency of the shrimp. It tasted a bit rubbery. The servers were friendly and attentive and the inside feels comfortable, we just felt that the quality of the food did not match the price. read more

Finished fresh Dungeness crab and Salmon shopping so we decided to get a bite to eat. I knew we were going to indulge in crabs for dinner so I decided to order just New England Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl. I mean...it's a MUST to have as much Sourdough Bread when you're in the Bay Area!! San Francisco is THE OG Sourdough capital!! There was a slight wait so we were able to put our names down and even though the estimated wait time was 30-40 minutes on the Yelp Waitlist, we actually only had to wait 12 minutes! We waited at the bar and got a Mocktail and a couple of strong Bloody Marys that were perfectly topped with a Celery Stick and Green Olives. The Seasoned Salt Rim added a salty punch which was great! We ordered a couple of fish tacos with a salad and a fish and chip entree. Someone commented that the chips were salty. Everything else was flavorful and cooked perfectly. I finished off my Clam Chowder, savored the bread inside and bottom. I requested the rest of the bread bowl to be taken home. When we got to the car, I looked around and I don't know where the package went? I don't know if I left it behind or thought I'd taken it? Anyway, I went back to the restaurant but the hostess asked our waiter Jose if he'd seen it but he hadn't. I assumed it was probably already cleared off. Such a bummer. When I got home, I messaged the restaurant asking where they get the bread & they said in Half Moon Bay Bakery. Perfectly dense and sour! There are ample amount of seats inside and out but expect a wait as the place is in a popular location. I walked away being disappointed with this dining experience. I was here for a celebration, but instead it ruined the rest of my day. First, I waited over 30 min in the cold (even at 1:30 pm). I was later told that they texted me earlier (ofc I didn't receive any) and the worst part was that they were going to make me wait even longer by placing me at the bottom of list. SERIOUSLY!! Luckily, one of the staff saw my reaction and placed me in one the tables outside. When I asked for a table with the fire place, they said they were reserved for larger parties. However, I witnessed multiple times that they placed a party of 3 (same as my party size) in those tables, so what gives??? Food service was super slow, even when it was probably closer to 2pm. They were definitely short staffed. In terms of food, nothing special. In fact, I wondered if they used real scallops vs imitation. It tasted different compared to many that I've had before. We have not been to Half Moon Bay since we brought the kids to Pastorino's Pumpkin Farm & Festival in 1985. So we stayed at a comfy Boutique Hotel in El Granada had breakfast at Ketch Harbor Pub that was an easy walk across the Cabrillo Hwy. Anyway on with the review. AMBIANCE: It was an unusually clear sunny and calm day and arrived at 9am when they opened. There was an outside seating area with a fire pit but we opted to eat inside. It's a bar like setting on one side and tables on the other side. FOOD& SERVICE: We ordered the Crab Omelette(5/5) and the food was served in 15 minutes. Every bite had a chunk of crab leg, OOOhhh so good. I opted for the home made potatoes and my wife had the shredded but the home made were much tastier. The restaurant is located where you see a large signage Oceano Hotel & Spa at Pillar Point Harbor Blvd & Johnson Pier. Spontaneous visit to Half Moon Bay on a Saturday morning during Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm so glad we found this place! The hostess was kind enough to ask if we preferred indoor or outdoor seating, and when choosing outdoor she adjusted to shade to our request. Our server was also quite attentive and friendly. The kids were kept busy coloring the kids menu too. We ordered the steamed clams appetizer and fried calamari to start. I ordered their crab sandwich and my husband got their fried cod sandwich. Crab sandwich is good, but they cut the crab meat with a lot of mayonnaise. It tastes great but it's a little runny. My husband's fried cod sandwich was a hit! I really liked the contrast of the battered fish filet and slaw. Their kids menu is also quite extensive. My little one loved their marinara pasta dish. Their kids grilled cheese was also decent and nicely portioned. There's plenty of parking as it's located at Johnson pier which is a popular area with lots of trails to walk around and explore. My friends and I wanted to go into Ketch to try their new spring cocktails because they looked so good and cute but to our surprise, our server had no idea what we were talking about. We had to show him the Instagram post where they were named and described. The cocktails came after quite some time and one of them didn't look as pretty as the advertised pictures and videos and was SO rose flavored. We got the fried artichoke and that was actually super good, glad we got that. The second round of cocktails we ordered were better and straight off the menu, so maybe they're just more well-versed on those ones. Our server was fine and friendly but the star of the show was Miles, such a lovely person! Overall, I'd consider going back to try more food but the drinks were meh. read more

Went in last Sunday, first time and last. Walked in and was greeted by the girl working the front, who was nice. It was busy which is no surprise, it's Half Moon Bay, Sunday and a long weekend. He looked so annoyed, didn't ask us if we had any questions or anything. And was very short with us when we did ask a question, he just kept looking at us to hurry up with our order. I don't know he if he's a senior server or management, it was hard to tell. We were INSTANTLY turned off his enthusiastic customer service. Really liked the food at Ketch, and out of the 3 different restaurants I had clam chowder on this trip, Ketch was far and away the best. Perfect thickness and flavor without having to add any salt or pepper. Chef's kiss! The bloody mary was delicious and hit the spot as my "starter", followed by that clam chowder and finished with the Crispy Seafood Combo. I am super picky when it comes to scallops and I have largely stopped ordering them at restaurants because they are almost never cooked properly. Well I took a chance at Ketch and I was highly rewarded. The scallops included with my combo plate were fantastic, perfectly cooked and exactly the right tenderness. The only gripe was that my wife's $28 crab & bay shrimp Louie salad came out almost no crab at all. Annoyed, she flagged the server down and expressed her dissatisfaction, to which he replied that the salad comes with 2oz of meat so it's normal, but then he went and got her another small bowl of just crab meat. Really liked the ambiance of this place. We sat outside which was a little cold but we had blankets so which kept us warm. The wait was about 10 mins to sit and the food came pretty quickly after ordering. The fish and chips weren't super flavorful but the fish tasted pretty fresh. Location, location, location is a very important factor in any review! This cozy pub is located right in the Half Moon Bay Marina, right next to the Mavericks Surf Shop! How legit is that? The patio lets you hear the birds flying around the boats. The inside is cozy and warm. The menu is really solid for a "pub". The crab grilled cheese looked scrumptious! The chowder was really wonderful, full of fresh clams, and the potatoes were the perfect texture! My fish tacos were a fresh take on an old favorite and totally delicious. The French fries were crunchy and excellent. Our server was Alex and he was terrific, attentive but not intrusive, I liked him lots. The dessert menu was thrilling and the banberry pie stood out but the grandson was done so we paid up and walked out happy! We love Half Moon Bay, so we took a trip out and decided to have dinner at Ketch Harbor Pub. It's been renovated since they took over the space and looks great. Service was great and attentive, but the food was just ok. We both love seafood so we went with the Seafood Tostada, the Fish Tacos with Salad and a side order of fries. The seafood tostada's local catch was about 4-5 scallops on a tostada with refried beans and mango slaw, the scallops were big which made this really hard to eat without falling apart, not a good dish to share. At $32.95, we felt like this was overpriced and not something we would order again. The fish tacos were served with fried fish that was extremely dry, there was not enough sauce on these to balance out and was underwhelmed for a $20 plate. The fries were perfect and enjoyed by all. Overall, great service and just average food for the price. I would definitely try them again, but not for Mexican Seafood dishes, just my preference. read more

I've given this place three times too many chances. As a local, I'd love a good brunch spot with the view of the harbor. But I won't sacrifice good food for aesthetic anymore. Food took way too long during a time that was hardly busy. I ordered the avocado toast, which describe on the menu sounds delicious. But what came was a basic poached egg on mushy avocado, no seasoning in sight. The bread they used was basically what you get in a bread basket. By no means worth $17. The breakfast burrito my husband ordered look OK, but that's hard to mess up. The only saving grace were the chocolate chip pancakes, which is why I gave it two stars. In addition to the food, the wait staff seems constantly confused. I don't blame them but really blame management. This place looks nice but is being ran into the ground. Came here on a sunny MLK Day. It was popular. Front desk lady was new, but someone seasoned came out to keep things moving. After waiting in line for 3-5mins, we were seated inside. The waitress tracked down a menu for us. This is a beach shack feel kind of place. It's right off the piers where you can come to get fresh, live crabs and fish off the fishing boats! We had picked up a crab so kiddo could experience getting a crab off a boat. The food is simple, fresh and good. We got the crab sandwich, which was Yom! The mixed fried seafood which had two pieces each of fish, prawns and scallop -- well done and better than the fish and chips at Waterbar. Surprised that we were able to be seated right away on Memorial Day at 11am. Staff is super friendly and even though busy, did not rush us. Sat inside as it was a little cool still on the harbor. While we waited for others in our party to arrive, we decided to try the oysters and have a glass of wine before breakfast. Why not? It's a holiday and we were on a mini-vacation. Love trying the local oysters and these did not disappoint. Nice to have an unusual mignonette on the oysters - very good. I loved the Crab Benedict - perfect egg, loads of crab, and a nice hollandaise. Hash browns are nothing special, but they were crisp and a nice contrast to the benedict. Others in our party enjoyed the Crab Omelettes and the Corned Beef Hash bowl looked pretty good. We remember the old Ketch Joannes from years ago and are happy to have this option available again in Half Moon Bay. We will return! Be sure to stop in the attached fish market on your way out.
